prepaid card
I recently started to use Capital Onecard prepaid as a secondary source for my paycheck direct deposit, since I get paid on Friday and my bank wachovia does engage in the practice stacking your debits, thus I was incurring overdraft charges. the first time I used the Capital one card was Friday payday, and i made two purchases. By around 7 pm that night, my...

Things have been a mess since I refinanced with Capital One Auto Finance.
The first problem was when I received a phone call from them when I first sent my application. They advised me that I needed to send them a copy of my car title to complete the loan. I explained that my current loaner had the loan. The gentleman informed me that they did not have it and in MD the buyer holds the title.
So, trying to keep things on track I went to the time and expense to obtain a copy of the title.I get a friend to fax it to them upon their insistence. A week or so later I get a call questioning when I was going to send them the title that I had faxed(with a confirmation that it was received).I them mail a copy.Everything was on track. It was a little upsetting when soon as my other car loan was paid I received the title from the loaner that didn't have it.Despite the annoyance I thought everything was now fine.
Several months later out of the blue I received notification that they had never received another piece of documentation that was in my loan packet. In the letter was a threat that if my limited power of attorney document wasn't received my loan would go into default(mind you my loan is paid a few months ahead- and ALL of my paper work was signed and turned in). I wrote back to them(contacting on the phone is impossible)to explain that the document was signed and notarized and returned with my application as instructed. If they would like me to send in another they will need to send me a copy of the document. In this message I also made a complaint as it wasn't the first lost item on their behalf in the short life of the loan. The response to my complaint and request was simply to notify me that they were a third party handling this for Capital One. Then I really got angry. No wonder they can't keep anything straight.I then made my complaint to Capital One (by email once more because the only way you talk to them is if they call you). I never got a response to my complaint or my request for another doc to sign.
Two months later I received a letter to inform that my loan(still a few months ahead in payments) was in foreclosure. The letter also included the document that I requested to take care of the matter 3x and 2mos ago, and a name, phone number, and email for a direct rep handling the account. I called twice and go not call back.I emailed and got no reply. I mailed the new signed doc in but I am so disgusted with Capital One.
Now, I wonder with the type of business they run what will they do with the limited power of attorney that they have been granted?
ridiculous service
I am 40 dollars late on my car payment, which I've been paying ontime for a few years now. There was a mix up and I thought my payment was 210 but I had been paying 230. So for two months I paid 210. They called and I said I would send the 40 in with my next payment which is due 3/20. The are calling me from all different numbers at 8 in the morning and 8 at night, even on Sunday. They call around 5-6 times a day. It is ridiculous. I will never get a loan with them again.

overdraft fees
Capital One admitted to pulling the largest amount purchase and purposely placing it at the beginning of the order so that instead of charging me 1 overdraft fee, they could charge me 11 overdraft fees. They would not help me at all nor would the Better Business Bureau. This is a scam and I am still in search on how to file complaints to make them pay me...

I have a prepaid mastercard from Capital One that I utlize for direct deposit of paychecks and other items such as tax refunds. Unable to access account i contacted customer service at which time I was told my account had been locked pending identification verification. I was told I needed to fax a copy of my drivers license and social security card and my acoount would be unlocked within 72 hours. When I asked about my direct deposits were rejected and sent back to their point of origin. Now I am going to have to wait approximately a week for my employer to re-issue a check. In addition whenI contacted the IRS regarding my tax refund I was told due to the fact that the deposited was rejected I would be recieving my tax by mail in 4-6 weeks. All I get from Capital One is "I'm Sorry"

Horrible customer service with no supervision or anyone in Utah that can get anything done. They rejected my tax refund after a supposedly supe informed me by phone and even called me back told me I was ok as not much over the 7500 max load. I was promised a call back from corporate that I never received. I cant wait to cancel as no company should treat their customers this way and never are you to deny a consumer access to their corporate office during an escalation as they have. My thoughts go out to those that are in need of their money and may experience hardship due to these types of issues posted on this forum. I am posting on my busi forum of 4, 000 as well as my facebook page of 3, 000 how they are treating their customers.
WOW! I wish I would've read this complaints board before I opened up my account. I moved out to phoenix temporarily when I was unemployed hoping to get a job out there, mind you I closed my regular bank account and didn't make a change of address request because I was unsure if I would get the job in phoenix or not. If I got it I would make the change of address. So i signed up for a capital one prepaid back in august. I never got the job and was only in phoenix for no more than 3 weeks. So I came back home. Never used the card. Got a job and everything in el paso and was using another prepaid card but that had limited funds allowed per day for direct deposit, and I had my student financial aid getting refunded, so I checked on the capital one card to see how much they allow per direct deposit and was happy to see they allow $7500. so I switched my info with my school so they could direct deposit the refund to the capital one prepaid...lo and behold...it goes through but when trying to access my card online it says in red "that i need to call customer service"...I called and was informed that my account was frozen due to needing to verify my address. I explained to them that when I first got my card i had just moved to phoenix and was not a tenant but living with a friend until I got a job that I was offered, job fell through and I moved back to el paso. So I had them change my address in their system to show my current address and I sent them a copy of my drivers license, a copy of their stupid prepaid card and two pay check stubs on tuesday. The next day they say it is not sufficient info and still need me to send in my ssn...so I did and even sent in a copy of my birth certificate just to be a jack ###. I call them to see if everything is ok and if they could finally release my account, they tell me no, that they still wanted a utility bill or my vehicle registration that showed my address. After fighting with them and calling them every name in the book, I finally got a manager that told me the truth, they basically wanted proof of address from my phoenix location (which I have nothing to help prove that since I wasn't living there long enough to change my address) and that it would take 3-5 business days to view my info i already sent them. and they don't count the day you send it to them, it takes effect the next day. And he told me it wasn't even a guarantee after those 3-5 business days that my account would be unfrozen because they were still going to need proof of my address in phoenix. Who does that?!?!?! I am proving my current address right now! I sent everything they asked and yet after every call I still felt like none of my questions where answered. All i kept getting was "we're sorry, we completely understand your frustration"...SHUT UP! NO YOU DON"T! how would you like it if you gave ME your $3000 check and I didn't let you access it unless you verified a address that you don't live at anymore and don't have proof of it, but have proof of a new address?!?!?!? I hate when they try to make you feel like they are sorry and doing everything they can, when in reality they could care less about you. Now my rent is due, Im late paying my school which I could get dropped out of because of this. It has been a 3 day nightmare and all could've been avoided had I read this earlier. And why do they wait til they have my money to decide to let me know they are going to freeze my account, wait i take that back, they didn't tell me, i had to find out on my own, luckily i didnt go out and try to purchase anything so i saved the embarrasment their. Luckily i talked to my school and they are going to do a stop check payment and issue me my refund via paper check. If you are thinking about getting this card...DON"T! if you already have this card, DON"T LOAD ANY FUNDS! If you got screwed already by capital one...I FEEL YOUR PAIN!...its not surprising they are "stopping their prepaid accounts" as of march 1st. GOOD RIDDANCE CAPITAL ONE! never again! ugh im so livid
I too agree strongly with the rest of the cardholders. I get direct deposits from ssi &when I checked, I had a balance of $37. @ first I was like oh they didn.t post the rest of the benefits yet. So I waited until 8:45am then I checked again. I was in awe when the balance was still $37. I called ssi first to see what was going on. The representative I spoke with explained to me that they posted everything today that I would have to call the bank. Called Capital One & they claimed they only received $37 dollars to call ssi.because Capital One only received that amount that it should be posted by 10am. Here it is 3:15pm still no funds. Can someone give me a # to a good bank please because I am serious about getting my $ on time. Thanks
This "bank" is extremely foolish! They rejected one of my on going direct deposits because "you can only have 10 loads per month"! Isn't the purpose of a bank is to manage and secure funds? What other bank only permits a certain amount of direct deposits in an allotted period? When I called to speak with a supervisor, I asked her was this information listed in a conspicous location for customer's disclosure. She said "yes"! I asked her where was it, and as she proceeded to tell me where it was on the online page, I advised her that is not conspicous. She then stated, "it is your responsibility to read the disclosures." I am going to withdraw ALL of my money from this account and move forward to an authentic bank that doesn't provide limits on revenue that can be deposited.
I got my check deposited in and it is pending the money is on the card and pending for what i need my hard earned money today not tomorrow. What should i do
Maybe they do not take "us" serious because we are utilizing prepaid services and not a traditional bank. I withdrew my money from a traditional bank to avoid high fees, and trusted my money to this capital one card. They have allowed a voided transaction to still hold as pending on my account, which has placed it in negative status. I am furious! I will not and am not going to let this ride...tired of corporate BS!
upset/disappointed
I had my refund deposited onto this card too for the first time...went to use it once the money finally posted and it declined...Cap One expects for people to go through this when they have been waiting for their Money..wish I read these posts before I had money deposited ...they are CROOKS!
Please do not open an account with Capitol One prepaid card! they are the worse excuse for a company that i have ever had the pleasure to do business with! they will literally steal your money, they are theives...STAY AWAY!
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i opened a account with them 1 year ago and this what happened to me i got the card week later and i actived the card online and then went to transfer money from my official bank to capital one prepaid card and the amount was 200 dollars and the transfer was succesful then i went to grocery store to buy my stuff so i gave the card to the cashier to find out that the card did not go through so i decided to pay with my regular debit card so as soon i got home i called them just to found out that they locked my account just because they wanted to verify my drivers license and social security number so they told that they wanted me to send a copy of my ssn and my drivers license so i send it and guess what they called me 2 days later to tell me that my ssn did not match with my name and all that so basically this is what happened after all i went to a big process that it took me almost 6 [censor]en moths just to get my money back so please guys dont waist your time with them just go open a bank account with bank of america, chase, wells fargo etc, , ,

First of all I am appalled at the employees that work in your call centers at Capital One. Not only do they not listen (or care to), but they are completely unwilling to be helpful or even kind. My understanding of a “Customer Service” Rep was just that – to help customers. Apparently this is not the case at Capital One. I recently got a 2nd salary cut ON...

After paying off my balance in full prior to the due date and then paying additionally, aslo prior to tthe due date, when i noticed recent charges that were not included on that month's bill, i received my next bill with an interest charge of $101.00. I called Capital One and spoke to foreign rep whom i could not fully understand and was then given to an English speaking rep who claimed it was Capital One's policy to charge interest until the bill has been paid in full for 2 consecutive months. I then spoke to another foreign rep who tried to explain that it was interest compounded daily but he could not tell me how or why the number was $101.00 or what number it was based off of. I then spoke to an account rep and got no further satifaction or reasonable explanation of how i own interest when i have no balance. I have paid the $101.00 and will be closing the account after being a good standing customer for many years and paying a 17.9% interest rate. Capital One's practices seem unethical to the consumer.

I just ran into similar situation and I believe Capital One over charged my interest.
By the daily rate give by them I came up with a number that is slightly different from what they charged me. Although it appears they only over charged me around 50 cents, I am not going to give up. I am going after them.
Years ago, Citibank had a lawsuit from a customer who claimed Citibank over charged customer by cents. The customer own the law suit and Citibank had to send checks in cents to the customers one by one to refund the over charge.
I am not going to let Capital One get away with this.
We are the tax payers who bailed them out. They can't treat us like this.
poor way of doing business
Does Orchard bank or the scammers that are sending me credit card applications to my JUNK MAIL really think I am stupid enough to give my personal information to them? NOT! I have repeatedly asked to have my name removed from their mailing list and they continue to send me phony applications. I am emailing everyone I know about this scam. I advise anyone who has an account with this bank to switch to a bank they can trust. I am going to report this scam to anyone who will listen to me about these emails, such a poor way of doing business.

Ripoff
BUYER BEWARE! When you go to a dealership and are financed through Capitol One Auto Finance REFUSE. They are the worst finance company my husband I have ever dealt with. If you are ONE day late they will start calling numerous times a day and leave very threatening messages. They will in no way work with you if you are behind on payments and are very deceiving about their finance charges. We have been making payments on a vehicle for (2) years and our principle balance is more than the day we took out the loan. Their customer service is HORRIBLE and you will never talk to the same person and more than likely if you call them you are actually talking to people in India.

Capitol One charges interest on a day to day rate. Interest ends up being more than the principal. In the last 18 months I have paid $2702.75 in interest. My principal paymenst for the same time period were $2584.35 - My complaint to them when unheard. All they kept saying was you signed the contract and that is the interest!
******BUYER BEWARE CAPITOL ONE NO HASSEL AUTO LOANS*******
I agree, I have been trying since April to find a company to refinance with, but with No Luck. No one wants to even deal with this company! Any suggestions
continued calls to non-customer
When I switched phone numbers, the person who had my number before me apparently owed Capital One a lot of money and failed to switch his phone number through Capital One. I really can't blame Capital One for calling. I can, however, blame them for calling repeatedly and at all hours.
The first time they called that I was able to answer my phone, they asked for Kyle. I told them that the number they had was no longer his number. They called again, and I told them the same thing. They called AGAIN, and I told them the same thing. They called YET AGAIN and I got snippy and told them that it was about time they changed their number on file for this guy. The caller responded by getting snippy with me and telling me that that was why he was calling. He lied... I received four or five more calls, to which I responded with increasingly loud and angry retorts. Each time the caller told me (snottily) that they were removing my number from the list.
Finally, I called Capital One customer service and told them to STOP THE CALLS immediately, that I wasn't Kyle and had no idea who Kyle was. They apologized and, supposedly, removed me from their list. Then I got more calls. I finally had to have each of the (different) numbers they had called from blocked by AT&T. The calls have finally stopped, but Kyle either gave out his number to numerous credit companies and tool manufacturers or Capital One sold my number to them.

express payment fee
I went on-line to pay my Orchard Bank Credit card bill on 12/31/09. The payment is due on Jan 3rd. When doing so, I got a "pop-up" message that stated that the soonest my payment would be applied would be Jan 4th ! How can that be when I paid it online on 12/31? So I was informed that I would need to make an Express Payment that incurred an additional fee of $12.95 or I would be assessed "late charges" of $30.00 This credit card company is absolutely the WORST ! I am complaining to the Better Business Bureau and every other agency I can think of. STAY AWAY FROM ORCHARD BANK !

hidden finance charges and automatic overlimit fees
I am getting tired of Capital One playing their stupid little game called Monopoly and also the game called Life. I cannot get ahead with paying off my credit card payments and keep me in debt. I think the credit card company being outsourced to foreigners make it hard times for America. I cannot keep up with their unknown finance charges and put over limit fees right in front of them without my knowledge. I hope things will improve with this company cause I getting tired of playing games with them, its like playing the lottery and I am not winning anything. I need this extra money to keep the food in the fridge and to take care my own needs. But with Capital One they are just being nothing but a very sneaky bank. of India. Capital One, Thanks for ringing in the New Year with a high finance charge and over limit fee. Greed!

sending junk mail
I opened a business this year and registered with my state agencies, of course ALL of the banks and other guys looking to get me to give them MY business are sending me all kinds of postal mail - SO MUCH JUNK MAIL that i decided to do something about it.
I called Capitol One and told the operator who answered to take me off the list - she wanted to play a game and just gave me the runaround NEVER ONCE did she acknowledge when I told her that it was my right to be able to call and request removal. they are still sending me junk mail.
Now, even if I ever do need a business bank/credit card you can rest assured I will NOT be doing business with Capital One! Not now, not ever!
In fact, i'd rather PAY higher fees at another bank JUST TO PROVE my point.
Capital One YOU GUYS SUCK!

nsf charges
I checked my account balance on December 14th at 2pm. It said I had a little over $3 in the account. Later that day I deposited a check in the ATM for $54 and some odd change. The ATM gave me a slip of paper that stated both my current and available balance was $57. I knew a check was coming out of the account in a day or so for $20 so I went to the store and spent $30 on dinner, knowing that would leave $7 in my account until Thursday when my boyfriends direct deposit went in. On Wednesday I checked my account and saw that I was negative $6.55. At midnight Capital One removed the $54 credit from my account and tried to push the $20 check through. I received an NSF charge of $35 on Monday. My deposit was credited to my account on Tuesday, but there was not enough for the $30 I spent on dinner to go through so I received another NSF charge. I spoke to a customer service woman who told me I just needed to bring in my ATM slip to a local branch showing my current and available balance were the same on the 14th and the NSF charges would be removed. I did and the man I spoke with at the branch said the woman responsible for dealing with these kind of situations would not be in until the next morning. He gave me her number and I called the next morning. She told me that even though I made the deposit at her branch, I had to speak with the branch in Frisco, TX to get the NSF charges removed. She said she would call them and then call me back. She called back 2 hours later and said "The Frisco branch is not refunding NSF charges today." My boyfriend called the branch in Frisco and they told him that we should not trust the balances in our accounts that show up on their website, the one that shows up on the ATM or what they tell us is current at the bank and that it was not their fault that we did not have enough money in the account to cover the check.

Despite the ###s before me who are bashing you for making an honest mistake, I understand what you're going through. I'm sorry that you come on here for help, and to spread your story for others who may be going through the same, or as a warning, only to be mocked. If you don't have anything better to say, then why are you here in the first place? You are obviously here for a reason, so stop pretending you're better than her. In fact, go screw yourselves. No one likes a troll. Anyway, Girly I feel bad for you. They were clearly giving you the run around. That's what greedy banks do. I'm sorry to hear, but hopefully now you know what not to do.
When you receive a check and you are that bad at balancing a budget that you only have $3 in your account you should be getting them cashed at the bank were the check came from. The balance is based on the assumption that the check is valid, so it really isn't in there until they can verify that it with go through. All deposits are shown as pending until at least midnight that night. Many banks actually push through withdrawals before deposits to cause the overdraft fees. But as member of society you should be well aware of these things by now. If it's that bad, you should have a low low limit credit card that you can use for these type of purchases, that you can pay off before the end of the month. Why are you spending $30 on a dinner, it sounds like you should only be eating in anyway.
do not believe their promotional rate!
About a year ago (late 2007), Capital One offered an incredible 0.00% interest rate (with 3% transfer fee) until January 2010. This was unheard of. And Capital One is Capital One -- a supposedly reputable company (based on their ads on TV, I guess).
This past month in November, I paid off the entire balance ($20, 000) -- 2 months before the deadline. Guess what. The December statement shows that there is $150 of finance charge!
I phoned the 1-800 number, and the customer representatives are in Costa Rica and India, all speaking with an unusal accent, with really bad (satellite) connections. (There wasn't even "Your call will be monitored for training purposes" recording.) I had to phone four times and repeated the same story.
Guess what? One annoyed customer respresentative said that the promotional rate was good only through 11/09, the last month. When I told her that I have a document that shows the rate was good through 01/10, she said she would transfer me to an account specialist.
The transfer to an account specialist never happened because the connection got disconnected.
I tried again twice more with the same scenario of the transfer being disconnected (supposedly) because of bad connections!
What a bad business practice!
What contempt they have for common people!

misleading apr on transfers
I have been a Capital One card holder for many years and usually pay my balance in full every month. I had a $3, 000 balance remaining on a home equity line of credit through another company that was expiring. Rather than pull the money out of savings I decided to take advantage of the promotion to transfer the balance at an APR of 1.99% for the first six months knowing that I could pay it off within that time period.
I paid my purchases in full on the next statement plus $300 toward the Special Transaction. When my next bill came the Finance Charges were itemized showing the 1.99% for the Special Transaction and 10.90% applied to the balance. When questioned, the Cap One representative stated that my payments would be allocated to the lowest rate first leaving me to pay a Finance Charge on purchases that I thought I had paid in full! Supposedly this is explained in the fine print at the end of my statement but I can't find it and I did ask about this specifically before I made the transfer. I feel that if the finance charges can be allocated on the statement then the payment should be as well otherwise the consumer is not being charged the 1.99% but rather a MUCH higher aggregate rate. This is just plain false advertising.

I bought a new vehicle with Capital One Auto. My (APR.) rate is crazy, outrageous..RIDULOUS and affect my health from lack of sleep.
I did not receive the APR rate in the contract prior to the purchase of my Automobile… I would have never agreed to this loan. As of yet I have NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT AND PAYING ON TIME.. but is TOO high. I have a financial Institution that I have been Banking with for 18 years and their Auto loan APR is 4 to 4.4%.. and if they have to increase it usually 11%.. MY APR with Capital One is 22.37% DOUBLE… My new Car only listed for $13, 000 my payment Original amount with Capital one is $22, 871.82… I bought the car in May 2012.., my payments is $579.71 a month… I have paid (5) payments already which is $ 2898.75 …. My CURRENT pay off is STILL! $21, 946.90.. I have a 2012 Chevy CRUZE not a MERCEDES, or LEXUS or RANGE ROVER a CHEVY! Because of the interest rate ( I only paid $952.45) toward the actual loan of the car my year interest is a whopping ($1, 973.63) for crying out LOUD! I am not rich yet! Capital One is ripping me off… Please help me decrease this APR … out let me return this car without effecting my credit. Of course like everyone else I have contact Capital One to no avail… It not like I am behind… I have been taken by this Company… I have heard this from other Financial Institution. Maybe I should put this on FACEBOOK, and YOUTUBE and let it go viral SO.. no other SENIOR Citizen Will be RIPPED OFF, by Capital One Auto Finance, California
When the contract was signed the finance charges were not indicated to me.. either covered with other documents I was signing at the time. It was not explained to me 22.5% or higher interest rate.. I was rushed to sign the papers and the 22% was not disclosed to me. I will find other consumers who are in the same position with Capital One. What makes you think any other company with refinance this loan.. WHEN CAPITAL ONE DOES NOT REFINANCE ITS ON LOAN BECAUSE OF THIS OUTRAGEOUE INTEREST RATE... I will contact all the WEb site of the News Media and Clark Howell until I receive justice on this ourageous interest rate.. When I or should I say by the time I realize I had been taken I reveiwed the The extense of the loan of 72 months I would have PAID
$41, 000.00 or more for this car that's list for $ 12, 000 - $18, 000. THAT IS DOUBLE WHAT IT IS WORTH.. I HAVE PAID EVERY PAYMENT ON TIME.. BUT THIS LOAN AND INTEREST RATE WAS GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO JUST CAME OUT OF HARDSHIP... SON HAVING A STROKE AND LOST OF JOB. TRYING TO RE-STABLISH MY CREDIT... THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE, , , CAPITAL ONE TARGETS... ONE THAT'S TRYING TO GET BACK ON THEIR FEET.. if the BBB can just post all of this information other will be aware of the CAPITAL ONE SYSTEM... They are worst that the CRagList... TAKER.
to the BBB I will not accept this offer.
dishonest business practices
Like most other credit card holders my interest was increased; actually it was nearly tripled. Now Capital One refuses to authorize payment about every six transactions with no notification or explanation other than "potential fraud".
I have never had an instance of credit card fraud with Capital One, never been late or missed a payment. I've had a few disputed charges; all wound up in my favor. With a credit limit over $15, 000, I have paid thousands of dollars in interest over the twenty years or so I've had this card.
Where does Capital One find reason to subject me to the inconvenience and embarrassment of having my credit card denied out of all this? And they got taxpayer money; including mine, to help them finance this scam?
This country is going down in a big way. The government, arm in arm with these financial institutions is destroying America. Forget Al Qaeda; it's Congress we need to worry about.

fraudulent activity
I got a letter from Citibank about going up on my interest and they were closing my MC account after it is paid out (I have perfect credit with them). I decided to get a Capital One card and close the MC account. I decided to transfer my MC balance to Capital One at a lower interest rate. After making that mistake and realizing after reading how horrible Capital One is to do business with, I decided I would not activate the card when I got it. Get this: They transferred the balance from my MC account BEFORE I even got the card or activated it PLUS they transferred a larger amount than was even owed on the MC account. I am one angry gal.

big scam
Capital One Mastercard - Capital One Pre-paid MasterCard is a BIG scam. The whole premise it that they have incorporated new "security measures" to "protect me" from fraud. All their "security measures" are is a way to use customers' hard earned money interest free for 30-60 days while customers wait and wait and wait for the card to arrive. By running this delay tactic scam they can have millions in a floating reserve at all time that they are collectively earning big bucks on.
I got the card to buy my plane ticket home for Christmas, but with this effing rip off scam by Capital One, my card won't even arrive till AFTER Christmas. So in the past month I am suffering with the inconvenience of having no card, meaning I missed out on all the reasonably proceed airline tickets for Christmas, so that will cost me a few hundred more and Capital One has made money off the fact. So they probably made $7 so far and cost me hundreds and a lot of frustrations. Corporate Effing Crooks! Avoid these crooks like the plague.
Here's the timeline of my ongoing "quick and easy approval":
I "applied" for the card 2 months ago. I received an "approval" 3 weeks later. (Like you need an approval since it's pre-paid). I was told my card would arrive within 10 business days of receiving a money order for what ever amount I'd like to prepay on the card. I sent in a money order for $500. 2 weeks later I call in since its been 10 days. So friggin' ### gives me the "Congratulations you've been approved" schpeal for idiots again. I sent them $500 and they are kind enough to say I can actually spend it. What a bunch of condescending dicks! The duffus tells me the card will be arriving any day. 1 week later a letter arrives, but instead of a credit card so I can buy my plane ticket, it get a crap load of paper with convoluted instructions about going to the post office to present ID and have the post office mail copies of it cak to Capital One by registered mail. Then Capital One Mastercard is supposed to review it and get around to sending out my actual card eventually. OK. B-effing-S on this. If they would just mail the card to the postal outlet in the first place and have me flash ID there, I could be picking up the card instead of playing stall tactics with my pre-paid money.

I totally agree - everything about BIG-SCAM is true - that is their business, I have been waiting for 2 moths while i sent a security deposit, these guys are experts in fraud and scam. Please stay away from them. It's amazing I'm reading a post of something I am experiencing, exactly was mentioned - what a fraud.

Capital One uses some shady tactics. I've noticed an uptick in complaints on consumer advocacy sites. I don't know the law but, at best, they're skirting that line. Even if what they're doing is not illegal, it is at least immoral and annoying to customers. While I will look into class actions for patterns that emerge here, we still have a recourse as customers to simply walk with our feet and to get as many people as possible not to become a customer.
Remember that "No Hassle" card with "fixed" rates they teased in front of you when times were good? Well, it should've been branded the "Capital One No Hassle (when it's convenient for us) and Full Hassle (when we need to) Card."
Apparently, they just have to send a tri-folded piece of cheap paper self-mailer (all the more easy to ignore) that says, "We're upping your rate and if you don't like it, decline it and you can pay off your balance under your old terms." What they bank on is that it gets lost in the shuffle and you neglect to decline the new terms. Oh yeah - you have to do it in WRITING. With a STAMP and the POST OFFICE. Why? That's to make it as hard as possible. That's the same reason most rebates have to be mailed in. Legal? Probably. Should we ever trust a "fixed" rate again? Never. They can, at will, send a letter and change the terms of the agreement. Of course people don't think of that when they sign up for a new credit card.
Remember those 0% fixed for the life of the balance teasers? For one of my accounts, I caught the "we're changing your interest rate" letter and sent one back saying, "No thanks - I'm just going to pay off my balance under the original terms." Guess what they do? They double, triple the minimum payment. Pretty slick, right? Again, probably legal, but definitely immoral. 0% interest, but they can make you pay it back really fast.
Back to the "we're changing your interest rate" letter that I didn't catch. Well, I didn't catch it because it was an account I never used. But since the credit crunch started, I dug it up again because it was a "low, fixed" rate and started using it. For months, my empty statements still said 6.9% on it. Once I started using it, my rate hit 16%. And I only know that *after* I get my bill, *after* I've made the decision to use the card under the assumption that I'm paying just 6.9%. Again, legal? Maybe. Immoral, yes.
Yep, there's more. I was late by one day on several consecutive payments. Why? Not because I'm irresponsible - I put the due date in my Google Calendar and set a reminder that texts and emails me. What they do is they change the due date randomly each month in hopes that you miss a few and they can rack up the late fees. Nope, it's not "every 9th of the month but if it's a weekend, it's Monday or Friday adjacent to it." It's not every 4 weeks. It's not anything like that. They even admitted as much when I called to ask what the logic was. So, instead of the very easy thing to program, "Albie L has to pay every 9th of the month, " they go out of their way to program into the system, "Albie L has to pay every (9+random number)th of the month" JUST to ***.
I understand that times are tough. And maybe Capital One is just fighting for survival. Fine. But they made the choice to screw their customers and I hope that we've got long enough memories to stay away when times get good again. i.e., don't become a Capital One customer once the dust clears and they start offering low rates, etc. You WILL be screwed if and when the *** hits the fan.
Stick with a small, local credit union. Even though my interest rate at Affinity Federal Credit Union was 9.9% during good times, it's *still* 9.9% today. No teasing. No changing rates. No changing due dates. Just good, honest, business.
