Question: Has anyone ever had this problem?
We had Champion windows installed in our entire home two years ago. The UV blocking makes our house colder in the cold weather. I understand what UV protection is about and yes that it blocks the heat from the sun coming in.
We live in northeastern Ohio and winters are pretty cold here. I feel these windows are better for a climate where it is warm in winter and very hot in summer - ie Nevada, Arizona.
One thing I have learned from this experience and another is IF THE OFFER IS ONLY AVAILABLE IF YOU SIGN IMMEDIATELY...RUN RUN RUN- DO NOT BE PRESSURED INTO A CONTRACT WITH ANY COMPANY.!
This is high pressure sales and it is unethical.

Relax; your windows are more then likely fine. What you are referring to as UV blocker is called "Low E". Look it up. It’s good stuff. It works in both seasons just in different direction. It’s too much to write about, but easy reading, if you find a good article. I don’t work for CW and never will…well…money talks. Regardless, I notice you’re not complaining about the install and that’s why I believe your windows are fine. I know these windows very well and they’re better than average, but not a lot worst than the best of them.

There are a number of reasons you could be feeling cold/drafty near these windows. I’ll attempt to help explain some of them. Simplest first…new windows if properly installed are wonderful, doesn’t matter the brand. (You’ll see what I mean when you research Low E.) People love their new windows and have the tendency to sit closer to them, if for no other reason than they can finally see out of their windows. Most likely is because the windows affect your heating source by keeping most of the heat in the house causing it to cycles less and driving you heating bills way down (check bills too). With the heat sources cycling less you feel heat conduction closest at your windows. This is why you believe it is colder than usual.

Also look up condensation on windows. That is going to be your next complaint. Look up more than one. Once you see the repetitiveness of the articles you’ll realize the truth…they all can’t be lying. However, those ###s on this old house should have stay on their bar stools instead of commenting on something they knew nothing about. ;-)

Regards,
Mac

I also had Champion install windows in my home in 2007. They have been nothing but problems. I have ice on the inside of my windows now that it is winter. I live in a suburb outside of Chicago, Il. The first time they were mismeasured. They came out and remeasured and replaced all 11 sashes. Cold air is comming in and I must scrape them with an ice scrapper. I hever had this problem with the old windows. Champion is blaming it on a humidity problem in my home. The humdifier has been disconnected for 1 year. And I ran a dehumidifier and pulled no water from the resevior. I paid 6400.00 for junk windows. I have reported this to the BBB and Attorney Generals office.
I am very dissatisfied with these windows. I will never promote Champion Windows and Doors. Their Good Houskeeping Seal is worthless.

An Unhappy Consumer,
Denise

You have other problems if you are getting ice on the interior of your home. The BBB of Chicago has no unresolved complaints in the last 3 years for Champion of Chicago, so you are confused or lying.

Actually I proudly work for Champion and I don't get paid to do this, unlike "Ticked off Champion Customer" who sounds more like a ticked off competitor who has chosen to lie and bad mouth without grounds. Pathetic. And what is it with all the capital letter joke and lol? By the way, we installed almost 40, 000 customers last year, and you are looking at a site with 4 compoaints, contrived or real. Check real sources like the Better Business Bureau, your state's attornie's general, or paid feedback sites like Angie's List.

Champion business model was made up from as bunch of ole tin men from way back and that is why Champion asked for a inflated retail or book price for its products. Champion just hires good sales presentation people and that are trained to peal the customer off the ceilings when they show you a inflated book price then they start to discounting the price down step by step. Buy two get one free. 33%, 40% even 50% off but not much lower then that. It is kind of like use cars or how low do I have to go to get your sale. The sale person know with a materful presentation of the products and the more they get you excited about purchasing its products the more that you would be willing to pay for them. Don't be fooled by a good sale presentation skills and buyer beware of the Champion locked in sales contracts.

Maskzman probably sells the poorest quality, cheapest window made and since he doesn't have to stand behind it any more than a year, he spends his time writing on these information sites, then when customers tell him they are shopping with Champion he directs them here to read all the amazingly bad information. Give it up maskzman, Champion builds a superior product and the only way you can compete is to pay for and use a higher quality line of windows, appropriately marked up. Then you may be able to properly take care of your customers. In the meantime, shut up about Champion, although it is amusing.

Job you really don't have clue do you? Your just another rat on the wheel at Champion and here is NEW FLASH for you. When you burn out at Champion they will just replace you another rat and put them on your wheel to run in then circles just like you do. Superior quility now that just is showing how stupied and brain wished you are. JOB you need to step it a few steps and learn more about the windows technologys within the market place today before you start spewing your carp. Here is a previous posting from one of your formal Champion employees that learned the hard way.

I have just spent the last 3 years with Champion lying to my customers about pricing. Do not believe any of the SALE prices or discounts. They are all fake. It doesn't matter if it is 30%, 40% or even 50% off. All they do is mark up the original retail price to give you the discount. Also, this is just an average window and its way overpriced. You can find a better window at many other places at a much lower price. Do not be fooled by the factory discounts!

I wouldn't call the Champion products appropriatrly mark up at all? Try all JACKED UP to the tune of about 200% and that is a ripoff by anyones standard. Even with your dieing swain 50% discounts its still a zipoff. I'm not going to shut up about Champion trying to zipoff any consumers. The consumer are able to past all the smoke & mirrors as well as the dog and pony shows and the over inflated prices at Champion. Eat on that JOB and come back with another retarted responce like your last posting.

I have a lifetime warranty on my windows and my bow window is only 7 years old. It is leaking, windows won't close, window is drooping falling off the bolts, seat pad inside is starting to mold...i called them recently because i noticed all of these aspects after my contractor came out to provide an estimate on my siding and he noticed all of the neglect when initially installed.

I called Champion Windows to have someone come out to replace or repair because i have a lifetime warranty on the window. He was standoffish and said it was my neglect, not theirs.

I havent heard a response in 3 weeks, so i could and asked for the President. Instead I got the division manager "Steve" who continually blamed me for their neglect in correctly installing the window.

I am sorry, but it is not neglect on my part for believing them that my windows had a lifetime warranty.

If I would have known that spending close to 10k with this company would only last me 7 years, i would have never gone with them.

Today, i have mold, leaking windows and windows that do not close ALL DUE TO THEIR INSTALLATION, and NEGLECT ON THEIR PART DURING THE INSTALLATION...however, the company tells me it is all due to MY neglect.

They are not backing up their lifetime warranty.

I too purchased an entire house full of windows. The installers were a joke. The crew had approximately eight men to install 16 windows. It took the crew the entire day to complete their subpar installation (cigarette breaks were aplenty.) One of the windows installed didn't fit the opening, i.e., a 2 1/2" gap on the side. No insulation was placed around the windows. They utilized glue on the interior windows which was slopped all over the quarter round and won't come off. The quarter round bows because they didn't staple it properly. The windows frost up during the winter with ice. Cold air pours into the home around the edges of the windows even though we have re-caulked everyone of them. I've had two of the windows collect condensation between the panes ("broken seal" was Champion's diagnosis.) One of these windows was replaced at a cost of $50.00. I am calling to have the second window replaced on Monday and do not look forward to this unpleasant experience; their window repair crew are a bunch of whiners. I am constantly tightening the screws on the locking mechanisms. And, I agree completely that these windows do not allow the winter sun to warm my home nearly as well as my previous windows (located in Missouri.) My heating costs were reduced, but only marginally. The storm door I purchased sits askew, and the interior handle is about to fall off. So when I replaced my front door with side panel, I purchased an Anderson product. I need new siding, but Champion will never receive an opportunity to bid.
