9:21 p.m. It took us 3 hours to get back to a room from the triage area. Triage went smoothly, the woman at the desk when we first came in (I do not recall her name but she had a curly Afro) was very pleasant and helpful. They placed an IV port in my mother-in-law’s arm and we sat in the waiting area. After the time my partner and I waited with my...

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Emergency room

July 23rd I walk into the er department. I tell them that I keep getting candida and patient first had told me to seek the er had it returned. I have stage 4 kidney failure already. They immediately walked in and said I was wasting the er time. And that none of my symptoms were that of severe candida and that I didn’t look sick enough. I told them one belly pain, nausea , diarrheal, muscle aches and split corner of mouth and now sinus infection that won’t go away and has candida spots is most definitely symptom and how come the antifungal med worked every time then? For all symptoms. And I told them I hold pain well and almost died from mersa but worked a shift so don’t say that. The lady next to me revived great care and she was only there for a dr note for headache bc she called out of work! I have never ever been treated so poorly in my entire life. They would t help me and degraded me. She told me all my stuff needs to be seen individually by different drs not here. She then asked about alll my meds and I tell her but when I get to my pain meds boom she got attitude and asked what was my condition etc. I tell her but I also state I’m not here for pain meds I want my blood cultured. But if it was invasive the hospital is where I would need to be. I walked out I was so upset. I am not a Dr so to be told I’m wasting their time struck a nerve. I witnessed someone come in for a dr note get treated better. Why wouldn’t you help me. I have come into er before with kidney infections bc I was scared. I will never return. Don’t discount patients who know their own body. Or if you think you know prove them wrong. Why not test me? You’re gonna charge me any way.

Desired outcome: Whoever treated me be reported. It’s unacceptable and I better not get a bill. I didn’t receive treatment.

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Poor diagnostic treatment in the ER

On September 14, 2022, my husband Donald Malenovitch , that had been suffering from severe vomiting and diarrhea for over 48 hours, went to Patient Frist for relief. They performed general blood work, an EKG and a COVID test. Thankfully, COVID was not his issue, however both the EKG and the blood work showed severe abnormalities. They directed him to the ER immediately.

Upon arriving to your ER, my husband shared the primary concerns of the physicians from the Patient First, which were: White Blood Cell count that exceeded 30,000 and an EKG test that was quite concerning. The physician in the ER very quickly repeated the EKG and the blood work and stated that he did not see anything concerning. He gave my husband 3 bags of IV fluids, which decreased the white blood count some. The physician assumed the issue was viral, stated so and quickly released my husband.

On September 17, 2022, my husband was taken to Norfolk General ER with the same symptoms. The admissions nurse asked the very same questions that were asked in the CRMC ER. They immediately took him back and admitted him treating him for sepsis. While admitted, through more thorough evaluation they found an 85% blockage in his carotid artery (which he is due to have surgery on next week) and they also found that he was suffering from a severe bacterial infection campylobacter.

My concern is that he was treated with very superficial treatments and released having only treated the symptoms without ever determining the actual etiology of his condition. Giving a patient IV fluids in his condition will certainly make the patient feel better, however the problem was not evaluated with any fervor and assumptions that his condition was viral were made in haste. This superficial treatment strategy could have cost my husband his life.

Desired outcome: I want a call from those that can make a change for other patients in the future. Possibly the director of the ER

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Emergency Room

I went to the ER last night, this young man that did an EKG on me wanted me to lay down on a bed without changing the sheet. I told him to change the sheet I wasn't going to do it. The sheet had another patient's feces on it, a lot too. This person that instructed me to do this had a problem with one of his eyes. That was Totally Usat...

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Emergency room

I went into the emergency room for a stroke and had to sit in the waiting area for over 3 hours. No one checked me at all, & when my husband told the people at the desk that my symptoms were getting worse they still did nothing at all. No one bother to asset my symptoms. We were told that 4 people were ahead of us. We left & went to sentara norfolk general and they immediately asset my symptoms and took me straight back in less than a minute of arrival. I had a hemorrhagic stroke (brain bleed). Thank god I didn't die

Desired outcome: Hemorrhagic stroke

Do not go to Chesapeake General if your life is depending on it. These doctors and staff do not care about their patients at all, just their money. All they want is to dismiss and send home patients, instead of actually trying to figure out what's wrong with them. Do not waste your time here, all you're doing is collecting a bill for NOTHING. Screw this hospital, it is by far the WORST hospital around.

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Medical Records

The lab would not release my infant son's lab work from an ER visit to me, his mother, without an explicit request from his doctor. His doctor indicated this was not the case, as she needed me to get the lab work to schedule a follow-up. It is not legal to withhold medical records from an authorized party. There should have been an avenue available me to get them without a request from a doctor.

Desired outcome: I want his records.

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center financial department

On 10/15/19 I had a surgical procedure done at this hospital. In November I contacted the financial department to set up a payment arrangement for my $3500 balance. Unfortunately the rules have changed since I last had surgery because my payment arrangement was based on the entire balance over a 24 month period, which is okay, I get it. I advised the young lady I will do my best to meet this obligation. On 11/21/19 a payment was made for $155.00 (which is my payment obligation). Fast forward December rolls around. I go to the website to make a payment and because I could not pay the entire $155 on one card I could not pay. Aggrevated I call the financial department. I was told I had to call in all my payments because in order to try to meet this payment obligation (I am spreading the payment out over 3 cards) I am a single mom making $40000 a year so I have to do what I have to do. The representative informed me that they will work with me just leave detailed notes on all payment dates. On 12/3/19 I made a $50 payment, on 12/6/19 I made a $30.00 payment and on 12/21/19 I made a $150.00. 2 days after Christmas I am receiving collection calls? Let me summarize November I paid $155 December I paid $230, which is reaching my financial agreement with this financial department. Today 1/16/20 I call to make a payment of $100. I was told my account was under review for collections! Then the representative then had to make sure she can take my $100 payment because it was less than my agreed amount. I even told her to not the account about another payment on the 1/29/20. This treatment is unacceptable. I have applied for financial hardship with this place, I received a response saying it was denied over a lack of a 401k statement. I just started my first 401k 4 months ago. So I printed out my 401k statement and resent the application. I am disgusted at the way this establishment has handled my payment arrangement especially when I am doing everything in my power to meet your demands. Is it even legal to send someone to collections without even responding to the financial hardship paperwork? I do not have these issues with any other medical establishment I am currently dealing with and there are quite a few. I have worked very hard to get my credit score where it is today. This is unfair treatment of the lower class and companies that treat people living right on the poverty line like this is one of the main issues in this country.

On August 20, 2015 my wife was taken to Chesapeake general with abdominal pain .She was taken to the ER and was admitted and seen in a timely fashion even though we were there for 4 plus hours. There did seem to be some confusion on who was taking care of us we had 4 nurses in the 4 hours .Doctor was professional even though he didn't dress it.As far as cleanliness in room 21 in the ER the floor had trash on the floor and the bathroom was filthy .The toilet seat hadn't been cleaned in some time.At the time of departure we were given 2 scripts for medication which we took to a pharmacy the next day.The pharmacy told me they couldn't fill the scripts because they had no DEA number. The ER was called numerous times by the pharmacy but the calls were never returned .I took the scripts back to the ER to get the Number they told me they don't return calls because they are having a dispute with Medicare .I waited 45 minutes to get the new scripts with the DEA number.I wonder what Chesapeake General thinks good customer service putting the patient who is in discomfort in the middle and not taking care of them to prove a point.Keeping the ER in less than excellent shape .If I had to grade my experience at Chesapeake General it would be a D minus .I could not recommend this hospital its almost like there is no direction from above.
