contractor non-payment
Do not do business with this company! My plumbing company has been trying to get paid for over 4 months for 12 jobs we did for them totaling over $1000. We keep getting the run-around from stanley goodspeed. The contract says payment in 30 days, but you you call him he says it's more like 60 days, then the check is in the mail, then it will be a couple more weeks, etc, etc etc. This company operates under unscrupulous practices and rips off the business contractors.
We are also a small, hard-working contractor that has been ripped off by this company for $934.00. Thank you for posting this information to file complaints. We are also filing complaints with the State of Nevada. Things are tough enough without an unscrupulous scam of a company being allowed to steal from people. We agree they need to be stopped and all of us need to be paid!
unpaid bills
We have done numerous jobs for choice home warranty and were never paid. We cannot get their accounts payable rep, stanley goodspeed, to return phone calls or e-mails. We would never recommend anyone to do business with this company.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I a new vendor but no way to sent invoice, no email like this / invoice@choicehomewarranty.com, accountpayable@choicehomewarranty.com / My time is my money and you want us to ride the clock and not get paid setting 30-60 min. to get authorization. I gave up after 10 calls. You pick up for a new account. To be forward place on hold. I see if tmcdermott@choice home warranty.com get my invoice. PS never had the homeowner do the work of calling the service company. THIS IS A FIRST. Guess if i get other call get money first give 30 min. No more then tell owner to call service company to get diagnosis. for 2nd trip due to no Phone Number straight to Authorization. Make home owner do the phone calls. We have other jobs.

I am in contact with Mr Zitelli as well. He has my case complaint too. PLEASE contact him and lets get this business shut down!
My Name is Winsome Sears and my company is Shenandoah Applaince Plumbing & Electric in Virginia (info@shenandoahappliance.com). We are owed money from Choice Home Warranty over 2 years now. But I have been in touch with the New Jersey Attorney General's office and they are now DIRECTLY investigating the cases where before they had passed it on the the Federal Trade Commission.
I just spoke with the state attorney handling the matter and they are asking for you to contact them to file a complaint. Without that, it is only heresay. In fact, they have already been in touch with Choice Home Warranty's attorney. So, I have been given this number for you to call and there will be a person to answer the phone: [protected] . Tell them you want to file a complaint against Choice Home Warranty.

claim denied
Been paying for coverage for months, first time we called them out, repairman said we would need to replace gas oven due to parts not being available, but Choice Home warranty denied claim. We know our appliances are older which is why we purchased home warranty. They stated they were not an atm, and are there to make money, well we did get money from us. They said that yes, they could certainly find issues to not pay a claim, in this case, older oven, and burner had a little rust on it, yes older appliances do get rust, feel very scammed. There are certainly always reasons to be dishonest in business, I think they got that one covered.
Purchased warranty June 29, 2015. Took effect 30 days later on July 29, 2015. On July 30, forced air fan in unit stopped working. Outside temps 110+ degrees during day here in Arizona. Choice sent out local tech who confirmed fan motor was out. Repairs estimated at $620.00. He called Choice and they denied claim because warranty had only been in effect 2 days. I spoke to Choice rep and he stated that motor was "obviously in process of failing before policy took effect." I told him I thought that was the reason for the 30 day waiting period. Asked for and received refund minus $50 administrative fee. Have since lodged complaint with AZ Dept of Insurance for denial of claim. Online search reveals many such complaints against Choice.
Like many other people we have had problems with Choice Home Warranty, our clothes washer broke after 18 months and we had to get 2 different Techs to come out as the first one couldn't diagnose it.
The second Tech immediately stated the motor had worn out and this meant it had to be replaced. Choice Home Warranty decided it wasn't covered as the machine must have been overloaded with clothes to wear the motor out.
When my wife complained they basically told her it was funny that the washing machine broke after 4 weeks of cover - we have spent over $1000 in cover to add additional items, I could have bought a new ashing machine for far less than this
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
Thank you for your review. A response like that tells alot about a company's culture. Based on the complaints on this site and the incredibly lame cut and paste response on each one from the company rep, we will not be going with Choice.
Funny cause my wife was about to call and purchase the service before I asked to look at reviews.

I have Choice Home Warranty (CHW) for my home since 5/13/2009 and the warranty expires 03/13/2010 from the contract document they sent me. I had "Perfect Temperature Air Conditioning and Heating LLC" repair the air conditioning at my house on 7/1/2009. They received authorization from CHW to go ahead and do the repairs. Perfect Temperature made the repairs and billed CHW for the remainder of the service call as per authorization. CHW has not paid them as of 5/18/2010 (today). Perfect temperature sent the invoice to a collection agency to get their money and the collection agency called me to pay the remainder of the service charge. I called CHW this morning and spoke to a not very friendly customer associate (Melanie) to hear that my contract had expired and she can not talk to me about anything that had happened in the past and a manager will call me back. She couldn't transfer the call to a manager, nor help me even though I insisted that my contract had not expired and will not until 06/13/2010. She said her 'system' shows the contract expired on 05/13/2010 and the only way they can help is having a manager call me back. I am waiting for someone from CHW to call me and resolve this issue. I have spent more than a day calling different people (perfect temperature, the collection agency, chw, looking through my contracts, invoices and payments from last year etc). This is not the first time I am wasting my time after signing up with CHW to get things taken care of. They have extremely poor customer support and do not treat their customers well.
denied claims
The issue was with the downstairs HVAC unit. It was reported on Wednesday January 4th. The techs your company sent were Climate Makers in N. Charleston, SC. They identified the unit was without Freon. They needed to run a test to identify where the leak was. Your company denied paying for the test (how is it to be fixed without running the test?). I paid for the test and it was identified as the evaporator coil. CHW denied the claim stating it was the same unit as denied in June 2011 for lack of maintenance. In fact it was the downstairs unit, not the upstairs unit which was denied in June. It should be covered.
I called to determine why it was denied as CHW only sends an email stating they have information about the claim, not what is going on with the claim. This was approximately 4:30 pm on Friday January 6th. I keep receiving a telephony message indicating that the offices were closed at 6pm and to call back later. It was only 4:30pm, not 6pm ET. I later found out CHW closed the office early due to a celebration. CHW is not available on the weekend to discuss denied claims so I had to wait until Monday January 9th to speak to someone.
After being on hold for 30 min, they confirmed that it was denied due to being the upstairs unit and lack of maintenance (back from the June claim). I explained that it was the downstairs unit (as noted on the work order from the tech CHW sent) and not the upstairs unit. Your agent said they would send it for review again and I would hear back in about 2 hours. Four hours later and no contact, I called again. This time after being on hold for over 20 min, your agent said it had not been reviewed yet. I asked for a supervisor. After being on hold for 30 min the phone disconnected. I called again and after being on hold for 20 more minutes, the agent said they were still trying to get the supervisor on the phone and that the phone systems disconnects calls on hold after so long.
The supervisor got on the phone and said I needed to provide maintenance records to prove the unit had been maintained. They gave me the email address of [protected]@CHW. I sent not only the record of the last maintenance, June 2011, but I also send the comments from the work order from Climate Makers. That work order clearly states that the repair was needed due to ‘normal wear and tear’ and not from lack of maintenance. I was told it would be reviewed and I would receive a call within 24 hours.
I did not receive a call the entire next day, so I called again on the 11th. Again after being on hold for more than 15min, I got your agent. They indicated that they were waiting for the email. I said I had sent it and they said they would go check. Twenty Five minutes later they came back and said they couldn’t find it. I again gave them the email address that it was sent to. They said oh, let me check there. It was the email address your agent gave so why would they not know where to look? After another lengthy hold, he said they had it and I would get a call back in 2 hours with a decision.
After 3 hours with no contact, I called back. Another lengthy hold and I was told that it wasn’t reviewed yet and to call back later. I said it is getting close to your closing time at 6pm ET and was told they would be there until 7pm so please call back if no call by 5:30pm. I called again at 5:30pm because there was no return call by your agents. The agent told me the claim was still being denied due to lack of maintenance. I asked how this could be since it was just serviced in June and Climate Makers indicated it was not due to lack of maintenance. He said that was the decision. I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor said it was still denied even though I complied with providing proof. I asked to speak to his manager. He said he was a supervisor and I said I wanted to speak to his manager. He then transferred me a voice mail box with no greeting so I have no idea if it was a manager or not. I left a message with my claim number and situation and asked for all call back that evening. I have still not received a call back.
It is clearly evident that your company’s philosophy is to continue to deny claims until they wear down the customer and the customer just gives up. Since I needed HEAT and it had been more than a week already, I did just that and paid for the repair myself.
I wonder if you are aware of this practice and even condone it as way to avoid paying legitimate claims. The lack of response would indicate that it is precisely your goal to frustrate customers to the point they pay for it themselves. This behavior is shameful.

non payment
Choice Home Warranty has never paid for our services. We serviced one of their warranty customers to repair the HVAC system. We received the authorization, submitted our invoice and after one year of trying still haven't received any form of payment. If there are any home owners or contractors out there that would like to join me in a class action lawsuit please contact me. They have a rating of "F" from the BBB. Stay away from them or you to will be doing free work.
I would like to gather as much information possible against this company so that we can get an attorney.

refriderator
My refridgerator went out. I contacted choice home which sent a technicial out to my home. He came out and supposely repaired it. It was blowing hot hair the next day. I contacted ed appliances [protected] which informed me that he changed the compressor after I told him what happen and that he was out of the states. He advised me I would get a call from someone by the name of michelle. I never got that call. I contacted ed he was shock that I had not gotten a call from choice home. I called choice again because I had not yet gotten the call. The customer service rep informed me that I would get a call regarding an authorization. I still had not gotten a call. I called choice home again. The rep transfered me to the auth. Dept after I told her I had a complaint to file and needed to speak with a supv. I was transfered to the auth dept and spoke w/alex which transfered me to jonathan busby the supv. Jonathan informed me that they needed to talk to ed the technician and could not give me any information about my fridge. Like really? I ask to speak to someone higher than jonathan and jonathan quoted to me that is what they pay him the big bucks for and he is the only mgt as high as you could speak with. Where does this go from here. The customer service is very poor and they can be rude when you are trying to explain your situation not to mention all my food has ruined and I still have no refriderator. I have place a call to ed the technician and recv'd his voice mail. I left a detail message to contact jonathan busby [protected] x 8244 jonathan is not a nice person and being in a mgt position he should be willing to be understand and work with the customers expecially since I paid this contract in full.

poor service
This is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with . When First American Home Warranty raised my rates, I went shopping for a new company and found Choice. this is the biggest mistake I have ever made. My A/C has been out for over a week (in Texas, during the hottest summer on record), and the warranty company has done nothing to help me. In fact, all they HAVE done is twist the contractors words around so that they could deny my claim to get it fixed! After I offered to pay the contractor out of pocket to fix the problem, they found out that my problem had been misdiagnosed and the problem was a faulty unit, which had only been installed 14 months earlier. Now, Choice is denying my second claim because they are stating that the first problem (which never actually existed) has not been fixed. This company is not here for the consumer/home owner. Their entire goal is to take your annual fee and then deny your claims so that they don't have to spend any money to help you. This company is a huge fraud, and I cannot wait for my contract with them to be over so that I can switch to a company that actually cares about their customers.
Horrible service! My ac unit went out 4th of July, I know they would be closed. For some odd reason they sent a tech on Saturday! Only to find out the tech hire accepted the call and than was playing phone tag with the realty company (rental property we live at) After the tech hung up and we finally got a hold of him, he said he couldn't do the job! By the time we called Choice Warranty, they were closed! Guess what, no on call person either! So you would think by Monday they will have our call on top of the list! No sir they couldn't get a tech till Tuesday 7/9! That's makes it 6 days (5 days with holiday) to get a tech to come look at the ac unit. Not to mention they still have to get the part and install it, so who know how long that will take. WORST WARRANTY COMPANY OF ALL TIME! Also you would think 1st thing morning they would have someone cause they couldn't get one the day before, the tech is coming out late afternoon! WTH! Service your clients well before you go bankrupt!
Absolutely AGREE with you. We are a South Texas Service Contractor and have yet ---ever!-- to collect on 6 service calls done last year! WE WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM-- NEVER DO ANY MORE WORK FOR THEM--- AND FEEL SO SORRY FOR THEIR POOR CUSTOMERS!

unpaid contractor
Did two calls for Choice Home Warranty and never received payment. Contract states 30 days, Stanley Goodspeed says its 45. Well, 45 passed, and still no check. After many ignored calls and emails, he finally called and said to wait another 10 days. He is one of the biggest liars in the business. He has until Sept 16th, at which point the customer will be receiving an intent to file a mechanics lein on her property (since this where the work was complete). I will also file a motion with the local court to allow our company go retrieve our material we used to repair the system. Done just stop with the calls if you are owed money by these scammers! Use ALL of your legal rights. You have every right after day 30 (as the contract states payment within 30 days) to go after the homeowner for the money!

I would like to join a class action lawsuit. CHW has denied my A/C claim
I signed up with choice home warranty I put in my first claim and it was denied and they didn't pay the company who came out the company who came out only wanted a debit or credit card no checks because they probable knew that they will not get paid so they took the money from my card to come out and check my air conditioner choice home warranty sent this company to me so they are probably in business together so not only did I not get my air conditioner fixed but I also got a bill from the service company that's just so nice of this scam company I hope they rot in hell
Any contractors working in Texas having problems with Choice Home Warranty? If so, please give me a call at [protected]. I'd like to find out more about what is going on. Thanks, George
It's been about a FULL YEAR since I've done work for Choice Home Warranty (CHW) and have NOT gotten paid one red cent! First I was going back and forth with Stanley Goodspeed then I was informed he was no longer with CHW. After that they informed me of this "new online system" that would ensure me of some kind of payment if I sent my invoices through that system. I did so and as you guessed, still no payment. Whenever you call, (which I've just got finished doing) you get no answer! The company is a rip-off to vendors and consumers, don't use them! BEWARE!

Hi, I am a contractor in Las Vegas who is also owed by CHW over $ 1000 for services performed. I am thinking to take them to small claims court. Can anyone of you contractors out there advise me on how to collect my money. This people are scammers and deserve to be put in jail. Any advise is welcomed.
Do I hear "class action lawsuit" coming about with Choice Home Warranty! Our company serviced several jobs for them and have NEVER BEEN PAID either! Despite our efforts to collect payment. They even tried to say that the check was in the mail but we never received it. As far as I am concerned, that's fraud and they have certainly breached our contract! Maybe prior to 2009 there were no complaints BUT now there are plenty in 2011! Vendors Beware!
I had a big fallout with Choice Home Warranty. Basically, I got in contact with the Nevada Department of Insurance who found that CHW is NOT licensed in the state of Nevada and the underwriter mentioned in the contract does NOT exist.
I was able to get my contract cancelled and received 100% money back. I recommend everyone call your state's attorney general's office and they will guide you to the appropriate department at the state level to help you out.

Better yet... they try to tell you that if you say anything negative about them.. that you they have the right not to pay you at all... They are under investigation, per the NJ BBB, by the FTC... Contractors BEWARE.. We had to turn the homeowner over to collection.. we HATED doing that.. but we have to get our money for parts and labor.. and we WILL !
failure to honor contract
Do not purchase from them. They are essentially operating illegally. They do not honor claims. Plus they will not provide information to allow me to sue them in California Courts as I have not been able to get their California ID number. Trust me, do not do business with them.

Hi, I'm in the process of suiting Choice Home Warranty in California Small Claims Court for refusing to cover a repair. I'm looking for any proof that CHW is doing business in the state of California. This could be either documents or written statements from any California resident or business having a current or expired contract with CHW. I've contacted the California Attorney Generals office and the Secretary of State's office and was told by the Secretary of State office that CHW is not registered to do business in California which means there is not Agent of Service for me to server. This means as a resident of California I have to prove CHW is doing and has been doing business in California. If you are willing to share any documents showing CHW is or has been doing business in California I would appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

They were not licensed in:

unprofessional scam company
We are an HVAC company located in Columbus Ohio. We were contacted by Stanley Goodspeed of Choice Home Warranty to service their customer in our service area which we did. We were given an authorization number and proceeded to do the work. We have not received payment for the services and it has been over 45 days which is the terms that Stanley had said we would receive our check by. When I contact customer service they are totally and completely incompetent as they say they cannot help me only the Accounts Payable department which only consistes of one employee, this Stanley Goodspeed who I might also mention never returns phone calls or e-mails and after you wait on hold for about 5 minutes listening to hold music you are transferred to his answering service and after you leave your message he still does not return your calls. I did look this company up on the Better Business Bureau's website and would you believe they have a "grade F" rating. That does not surprise me. It is beyond me how this company is still in business! DO NOT CONDUCT BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AND DO NOT SIGN A HOME WARRANTY CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY. DO YOUR RESEARCH. THERE ARE MANY OTHER HOME WARRANTY COMPANIES THAT ARE LEGITIMATE AND OPERATE VERY PROFESSIONALLY AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY HELPFUL UNLIKE THIS COMPANY! dishonest sales & uncovered claims
I purchased a new warrantee and was informed that no claims would be covered in the first 30 days, but that full coverage would start as soon as those days were up--which we understood and were fine. Six weeks later the A/C unit went out, so we submitted a claim, only to be told that there was a new policy in place that no claims were covered for days 0-30 and only $200 would be covered between days 31-60. No where is this in the service agreement terms and conditions. Based on the info in the agreement, we should have been fully covered, yet they refused to cover more than $200 and would not even discuss the discrepancy between their written terms and conditions and what was repeatedly parrotted in the many hours I spent on the phone trying to find out why the repairs would not be covered. I even sent back to them the official service agreement I received from them and they just called it a clerical error on their part, refused to acknowledge the misrepresentation of the policy by their sales staff and legal documents, and told us we were SOL even if we waited until after the 60 days to have the repair done. This was blatant misrepresentation of the policy terms and disregard for the service agreement. During our many conversations with company representatives they would cite particular elements of the terms as justification for refusing coverage while ignoring the other aspects of the terms and conditions that actually indicated that our repair should have been covered, in the end, relying on the unwritten policy as their ultimate justification regardless of the official written terms and conditions. Our response was to cancel our policy and move on, paying for the repairs out of pocket wiht a non-affiliated technician since it would cost us the same. This is an incredibly dishonest company that outright refused to abide by their own service agreement. I highly recommend against buying a home warranty from them. You've got to be better off elsewhere.

scam-tastic company
CHW is home of the swindlers; they strive everyday from 8-7 to steal customer money. We have been signed on with them for about 5-6 months, and on our very first claim they deny with various changing excuses. Our A/C needs to be replaced, ASAP because of the 100+ degree weather here, yet Choice Home Warranty likes to drag the issue out to over 2 weeks now, each week a different excuse for why they can't cover this claim. We provide sufficient evidence for their "maintenance documents, " but they insist we mail it to Corporate, which takes around a month to just review the claim! All in all, CHW is a poor company with horrible and rude customer service. I would not advise ANYONE to ever sign on with this company, and even have a firm belief that CHW should not even be allowed to operate business. After waiting 2 weeks on hold, we are finally forced to dish out the whole $3, 000 it will take to fix our A/C, all because Choice Home Warranty sits at their desk collecting premiums and facebooking all day long, with no care for their customers. Scam away CHW, scam away!

timeliness of service
My AC upstairs went out and so I called the claims dept to file a claim. They said they would have a technician get back to me shortly. A day passed and no word. Called back and was told they were still looking for a technician. Another day passed. Day 3, called back, and was told they can't find a technician. Escalated to supervisor and was given the run-around as to why they couldn't find a technician. Because they couldn't find one that would honor their contract (i.e. the technician wanted to charge the consumer up front and let the consumer seek reimbursement from Home Choice). Finally, after much aggravated calling, they found me a technician. The technician called me to set up a time and told me I would be responsible for paying all the fees up front and seeking reimbursement from Home Choice, which is a direct contradiction from what I was told. When I asked why I had to pay more than my $65 deductible, I was told because the home warranty companies and this one in particular, are unreliable to pay the contracted technician. They look for any excuse not to pay. Day 4, still no technician, still no fixed AC. Temps above 87 up stairs with an 11 mo. old baby. This company is a fraud. Their customer service is a joke. One lady didn't even know what a call log is. They say they will call you back and never do. Stay away from this company. They are a major fraud!
none payment
I am a licensed contractor in Heating, Air conditioning and appliance reapair. I signed on with Choice home warranty about a year ago. They sent me to a job, And I got an approval over the phone to do the work. After about 30 days, I didnt recieve payment for the job. I called them to see what had happined. There office told me that I never filled out there contractor application agreement. "Funny", they where able to send me to do a job and do work. But when its time to pay, I dont exist!?!... After 5 months I did get payment. After all that, I didnt care about doing any work for them. I got a call from the contractor relations guy in january to see if I can still service there calls. I reluctantly agreed, the rep told me it was not normal and I would be payed regularly every 45 days. Its now May and am getting payments from January. I had parts I had to order for there jobs and never did because I was waiting to see if they would pay. To bad for the poor customer that pays for a policy and has to be put on hold because the contractor dosnt know if he will get payed. I have terminated all relationship with them and called every one of those customers and explained what was going on. Not a good thing for me to do, but am not gonna have the customer upset with me when its the warranty company that dosnt pay for claims.

Stanley Goodspeed...yup.. that's the guy who called me too trying to pacify me... just to leave me waiting for another two weeks.. but that's alright...I just got off the phone with one of the customers.. and asked her nicely to please call choice home warranty to see why we have not gotten paid yet... I am sure that will go over well !
Call the customers to collect. they will call CHW and complain. then get promise of payment in writing signed by troy mcdermott before you agree to stop calling customers telling them how CHW refuses to pay you, leaving the responsibility to pay past due balances to the customers! Stanley Goodspeed gets pissed when you call customers but you will get paid. I DID!
home warranty
I just moved over from american home sheild to choice home warranty (chw). whart a mistake. I contacted chw on a repair on a rental. I contacted the vendor to be sent out. much to my surprise they declines my service call because they hadn't been paid by chw on previous jobs! nice start. then they gave me a second number which I called. it went to some repairman working out of his house. also disclosing that payments were very slow from cwh. the appointment was set for later in the day. the fellow never showed up at the scheduled time. call the tenant at 8pm at night and wanted to know if he could still come over. go with ahs. they are alot better although more expensive. at the end you get what you pay for.

breach of contract
After a year I made my first claim due to my AC not working. I had to call 4 different contractors they had asked me to call before I found one who would come look at my AC unit. All other contractors had very bad things to say ab0ut Choice Home Warranty company.
The contractor broke appointments, didn't show when he said he would and finally came in his personal truck with no company name on it, talking the entire time on his phone. After a 10 minute visit he decided he had to leave and reschedule to determine what was wrong. Again, broken appointments and finally showing up late he arrived. With in 10 minutes he informed me I needed an entirely new system. (the compressor is only several years old).
For the next week I supplied all information requested by Choice Home Warranty Company with regard to the AC system. Maintenance records, service calls over the years etc. I was finally told they feel I had a pre existing condition when I entered into the contract over a year ago. I supplied documents showing annual mainentance to the contrary and with no leak issues. This is a company who has an "F" rating with Better Business B. and yet stays in business. Let's see how they fair here in Maryland with our laws on companies who do business like Choice Home Warranty Company.
. Oh Yea "Have a Great Day", they love to say that as they screw you.
BEWARE! I know this company appears tempting because of the lower rates. I fell for it and got a major screw job. They will honor the small claims. But once a big one comes, they will flat out refuse to pay. You will hear one of these two excuses, "pre-existing condition" or "failure to provide proper maintenance". PEOPLE, PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE BAD REVIEWS. And if that's not enough to convince you, even the NJ Attorney General is trying to shut them down. The company is owned by a group of slick, greasy East Coast lawyers. They know how to skirt the BBB and any small claim lawsuits. BE SCARED, BE VERY SCARED!

illegal activities
Signing up with Choice Home Warranty was a huge mistake. A couple of months after signing up, I initiated a service call. They denied coverage and charged me $45. I am sorry to say that I did not research CHW thoroughly prior to signing up with them. After they denied me service on my first call to them, I did more research and realized this company is a big SCAM. I proceeded to cancel my policy with them. This is when I really found out how bad this company is.
If you cancel with CHW, they charge you a $50 cancellation fee. This was in the contract, so I couldn't complain much about that. They prorated the amount of my contract. Since I had only had the contract with them for less than two months, I would have expected a reasonable company to refund the entire amount but they didn't. What they did next was totally illegal in my opinion. They claimed they had expenses of $55 associated with my previous and only claim (which they did nothing for me) with them and they were deducting that from my refund also. So they charge me the monthly fee for the warranty and then say that any cost they had for claims on behalf during the warranty peroid had to be paid by me also. So what did I get for the warranty that I paid for? No service and had to pay for their expenses too! This seems highly illegal. You can't charge me for the warranty and then say that I have to pay any fees that you incurred associated with any claims while the warranty was in effect. I intend to provide detailed information regarding this to the state attorney general. I think they will be interested in this illegal tactic. If anyone else has had similar experience, I would recommend you provide information to your state attorney general as well as the BBB.
If anyone is looking for a home warranty, I would recommend they stay as far away from CHW as possible. These people are highly unethical and illegal in their activities.

We have also done invested labor as well as parts for jobs and got the same story about being terminated. I don't know how they continue to get away with this. I wish I would have taken the time to do the research before they scammed us. Didn't take long to learn what they were all about once I did.
rejection of claim
On 04-08-11 I filed a claim with the warranty concerning my A/C Unit. I had a tech come out on 04-09-11 and stated that the whole system needed to be replaced. On Monday, 04-11-11 Choice Home Warranty called and asked for records of maintenance otherwise they would not pay for the system. I moved into the house 08-30-11, the house was bought from a contractor. The warranty told me to contact people I do not know to get records about the unit. THEY REFUSED TO FIX the issue and stated it was my fault. THEY ARE CROOKS DO NOT BUY THEIR WARRANTY!

ripped me off
I purchased two home warranties for $794. They told me I could cancel within 30 days for a full refund. I decided to cancel the next day when they incorrectly charged my credit card and wouldn't answer my phone calls. First they wouldn't cancel my order for weeks and then they tell me that there is a $50 cancellation charge for each policy. They refunded my money minus $100 and now they won't every answer my phone calls.
That's exactly what happened to me. I am so mad and they just give me the runaround. I wish I read your complaint first.

plumbing
I've bought Home Warranty for $380, paid in full, and later received the letter from them with coverage explanation. After 4 month the toilet tank was broken, cracked, leaked and I called to submit a claim. Home Choice Warranty provided me phone # of plumbing contractor which I had to call. First meeting was scheduled, but nobody shown up. I called a contractor to find out what's happened. After my third call the contractor called me back and said that he had a case of emergency work and couldn’t attend that time. There were no apologies, or regrets expressed. I am usually a vey understandable person and we rescheduled our meeting. Then I received the email from Home Choice Warranty that my claim is denied. I called them to explain the situation. The representative was a girl, who was terribly rude and mean to my non-American accent. She finally agreed to relive the claim opened. On the second meeting, the contractor called to the Home Choice Warranty for authorization and the company said that toilet tank is not covered. He demanded $60 check before he came in my entry door. There is exactly copy-paste text from Choice Home Warranty site:
TERMS OF SERVICE AGREEMENT CHOICE HOME WARRANTY
8. PLUMBING SYSTEM/STOPPAGE
INCLUDED: Leaks and breaks of water, drain, gas, waste or vent lines, except if caused by freezing or roots - Toilet tanks, bowls and mechanisms (replaced with builder’s grade as necessary), toilet wax ring seals - Valves for shower, tub, and diverter angle stops, rinses and gate valves - Permanently installed interior sump pumps - Built-in bathtub whirlpool motor and pump assemblies -
When I called them again trying to clarify what the TOILET TANK words mean in the description of their coverage, I have got a response that they don't cover the porcelain cracked. I tried to cancel this scam policy, but the customer service representative said me that is impossible, they can not release me after 30 days cancelation period gone. They don’t provide me a service which I need and paid for, and they banding me with this crap warranty, which they interpreter how they want. Ok, I was stupid; I didn’t check their rating, but other Customers: DON'T pay them ahead. I live in the USA for long time, and I had never had such scam, poor service here. They treat their customers as they want; there is not any coverage guaranties that they kept. Their main goal is to grab your money and escape from any obligations to provide a service. They are trying to find the reason don’t fix your problem. They discriminate me as a foreigner, hopping that it is too small amount of money that I would suit them about. At least I will try to suit them because I think this fraud must be stopped.

As of my research, they have not been licensed in the state of Nevada & Washington
Contact your State Attorney General and ask where you can file a complaint about your Home Warranty company. That department will help you out a lot

In response to the comment by Choice Home Warranty:
Yes they are representative of Choice Home Warranty! Have you ever read the contract you force your service providers to sign after they have already performed services?
Here's a nice little excerpt... "Choice Home Warranty may immediately terminate this Agreement without notice to Service Provider, upon such termination all balances owed to service provider will be held in reserve for no less than 365 days, should CHW determine that Service provider caused harm to CHW by slander or Libel all balances owed to Service provider will be deemed forfeited by Service provider."
So basically Choice Home Warranty can run up a big bill with a Service provider, cancel the contract without notice and doesn't have to pay for a year or longer. Unless the Service provider tries to collect, that's "libel", and CHW doesn't have to pay at all!
Doesn't sound anything like the company you are describing does it?
Here's some more... After reading this contract and concluding that NO REPUTABLE COMPANY would word a contract in the manner that this contract is written. I decided I would decline any further work from Choice Home Warranty and not sign the contract. Then I was told by Dennis Vong (Vendor relations manager), as well as several other agents of CHW, that "If I did not sign the contract I would not get paid" for work I had already done. All work that was approved by CHW, assigned an authorization number by CHW, and properly invoiced on CHW's contractor portal!
There's a word for that... It's called Blackmail!
Choice Home Warranty is a CRIMINAL Organization hiding behind contractual law! Preying on people who couldn't imagine that CHW's level of indecency and dishonesty even existed. Well, you have done a fine job schooling them!
Signed,
One of many pissed off contractors!
Response to the Choice Home Warranty comment,
Yes they are representative of how you operate! Have you ever read the contract you force us to sign after we have already serviced your policy holders? The contract is filled with stipulations on how you can refuse payment. One in particular says, "Choice Home Warranty may immediately terminate this Agreement without notice to Service Provider, upon such termination all balances owed to service provider will be held in reserve for NO LESS than 365 days, should Choice Home Warranty determine that Service Provider caused harm by slander or libel all balances owed to service provider will be deemed forfeited"
So Choice Home Warranty runs up a big bill with a contractor and then cancels the contract. If the contractor tries to collect, that is Libel, and the balance due is forfeited. Sounds like an honest contract to me (sarcasm)!
I was specifically told by Dennis Vong, and other agents of Choice Home Warranty, that "If I did not sign the contract I would not get paid" for work already done!
That is Blackmail!
That's how you roll!
Quit blowing smoke up our Keisters!
You are a company full of Crooks!
