Fraudulent company
We signed a contract with Claims Specialists International (CSI) on August 30, 2008 to act as our roofing consultant and contractor for an insurance claim to replace our hail damaged roof. At that time we provided them with an insurance check for the required down payment. We were told that a roofing subcontractor would contact us within 6 to 8 weeks to schedule and perform the roof replacement.
I phoned CSI on November 11, 2008 because nobody had ever contacted us. I talked with Michelle who stated that there would be another delay of 4 to 6 weeks because there was an asphalt shingle shortage caused by Hurricane Katrina. (2 out of every 5 homes in my neighborhood were getting replacement asphalt shingle roofs installed at that time!). Between November 11, 2008 and March 13, 2009 I phoned their office numerous times.
Most of my phone calls were not answered and my voice messages were not returned. A few times I talked to receptionists who provided me only with broken promises and conflicting excuses, but who would not give me a roof replacement commitment date. Twice I asked if it were possible to get a full refund of my down payment and twice I was told they would have to check with a manager and they would call me back. I never received the return phone calls.
I phoned their office again on March 13, 2009 and discovered the phones had been disconnected and heard from my neighbors, who have had the same problems with CSI, that they had moved and changed their name to K-2 Roofing. They had gotten Melissa King's phone number from a former CSI employee. I called that number [protected]) and she was not happy and had no problem telling me so. She had Anna Gibson (CSI/K-2 Roofing's or whatever they call themselves these days accountant manager) call me back.
Anna asked how she could help. I told her I was expecting a call back several weeks prior about receiving a full refund of my down payment check. She asked if I wanted a replacement roof or my money back. I told her that I had waited over 7 months to get a replacement roof and did not expect they would ever fulfill their contractual obligations so I would prefer my money back. She verified my name, address and the amount of my insurance check then said she would get a check in the mail the following week.
I received a check for about 17% of what I paid them because in their greedy opinion I had broken the contract! These people are scam artists and will use every crooked way they can think of to keep your insurance company's money! Don't do business with them and please contact Rebecca Wild at [protected] of the Colorado Attorney General's Office and file a complaint.
I will never fully trust another business for the rest of my life! Some honest world we live in, huh?
P.S. My neighbors are still expecting to get a new roof.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
here in colorado I recently worked for a company that was scamming...i won't disclose name but they claim to be international claims specialists...what the international meant is anyone's guess.
they changed their name in order to continue their scam, I used to ride my K2 bike to work which was ironic because the name of the bike was eerily similar to the name of the company...
heartless cowards is what these knuckleheads were
Oh and did I mention that your insurance rates and your taxes are going up too?
Look, folks... when you get the insurance money...and these guys are beating down your door...supposedly to give you something for value in return for that insurancee check...well guess what? It just ain't happening.
Held accountable? Let's see... the Ins. Cos. are getting their roofs done cheap...the U.S. Government has full employment for illegal aliens...
What's not to like?
These storm chasers business's might say roofing, but their JOB is separating the homeowner from their insurance check.
Scam, theft, fraud
Claim Specialists International came to our door on 6/2/2008 saying they could work with us and our insurance company to repair/replace our roof if damaged from hail. The roof was inspected by Rick Buresh and we were told it had damage. We checked with BBB and found that CSI had an A- rating and felt that this was a safe business to deal with. We signed a contract with CSI to repair/replace the roof and we paid $2000 down. They finally repaired/replaced roof in November 2008. It turns out that CSI subcontracted the work. We paid the remaining balance to CSI on 1/3/2009. On February 14, 2009 we received a statement of lien on our property from the subcontractor. They state that they have not been paid. We immediately called Claims Specialists International, there was no answer, so we left a voice message that we received the statement of lien, that we had paid the bill to CSI in full and CSI should in turn pay the subcontractor.
We did some searching after 2/14/2009 on the Internet and found that CSI was given a D- rating by BBB on 12/18/2008, membership has been revoked and there have been numerous complaints by mistreated customers recently.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

These guys and other companies like them are scam artists. Good rules to trust - (1) don't ever pay for any contract work until after the work is done and inspected to your satisfaction (any trustworthy business will always do business this way). (2) call your homeowner's insurance yourself and you should be given plenty of trustworthy contractors in your area that you can trust, which your insurance company will usually back in case something goes wrong with quality of craftmanship or product.
So, yeah, I am also a victim of Claim Specialists in that their sub-contractors who actually completed our roof last August, left me with a poorly finished roof that leaks. Since they're out of business, technically, they don't have to honor any guarantees that were initially in their contract. How convenient! Plus, my insurance won't cover anything else on this roof. Therefore, I'll be submitting a complaint about CSI, Glenn Jessen, Melissa King and whoever else is responsible for this to the Attorney General's office ASAP. I think anyone who had misdealings with CSI should submit a formal complaint to the Attorney General's office, then seriously think about sueing the owner for any money that you are out of pocket on.
Thanks for speaking out on criminals like Glenn Jessen, who has multiple felony convictions according to /URL removed/#409490. I only wish I knew this beforehand.
Victim when did you sign an agreement with CSI and give them the insurance check? They should have not been scamming anymore people since last year. Call Glen Jessen
We too have been scammed by CSI, they took our money and ran.
We received a letter dated March 22, 2009 from Melissa King, stating "they were working with their prefered vendors to get your project under way as soon as possible" so much for that.
She gave the new phone number as [protected] this is a cricket phone number, when dialed you get the message that the phone number is not available either the phone number is off or out of area.
Have you notice the whe web-site given on the business cards and also the letter we received are also not available. The web-site is "ww.claimspecialist.org" .org means that this web site means ususally it is a non-profit organization. Also the e-mail given is also not a valid e-mail "customerservice@claimspecialist.org". the e-mail I sent came back.
Yesterday May 16, 2009 we received a letter from a roofing contractor, stating that they had been a contractor for CSI, and that they would like the chance to come out and inspect our roof and give a new estimate and replace our roof. Stated in this letter was the statement :
"Please bear in mind your proposal will have no relation to the amount of deposit that was paid to CSI and may result in an OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE to the homeowner."
So did Ms. King sell our address to this company?
Another bit of information, we have had two different roofing companies target our home for roof replacement, both have been here twice in the last several months, with the same spiel as CSI last summer, they are targeting homes in our area with T-shingles and have an adjuster in the area. The sales pitch is exactly the same as CSI was last summer, it sounded as though they were trained by the same person. The companies they represented were:
Interstate Roofing Company and Colorado Roofing Exchange
We will be filing with the Attorney General as soon as we get all our paper work together.
Call Glen Jessen.

Fraud and cheating
This company will come to you offering a free roof for your home. These evil people are scammers and will stop at nothing to get money out of you. They will try to scam your insurance company, who will in turn raise your rates and give you resistance when you need to file a real claim.
If there is any problem CSI will hound you for money, badger you and your relatives over the phone, and even try to take you to court for more money. They have screwed my family over and now we are stuck with out a roof and have to deal with these evil people until my lawyer counter sues.
My advice is to stay far away from this evil business and report them for anything to the BBB. They use their 'paid for' standing with the BBB as grounds for their legitimacy. Don't believe the hype.

Con-artist Scamming, Inc. is what they should be called. I had a similar experience with them but the roof's been built and six months later it leaks, even after they came back three times (August through September 2008) to fix the leak. CSI threatened to put a lien on our house for the extra work that they did when our insurance company refused to pay for their mistakes. After talking with my insurance company, thankfully they handled the problem for me. Lesson learned! Never go through a third party for any insurance claim.
All roofers, with the exception of a couple are sleezy scam artists. Take anything a roofing salesman tells you with a grain of salt. Especially one who is going door to door. Use local small businesses for roofs, one who has been around for 10 or more years. If they fight with your insurance company about the amount of the claim, most likely they are not being honest and are just trying to make a larger commision on the job. A "good" roofing company will repair a roof that can be repaired and will replace one that needs to be replaced. Just remember that the insurance adjuster is probably more knowledgable than the man going door to door offering to look at your roof, who probably worked at Subway a month ago.
Paul, I totally agree. These people are so unethical and disgusting. They took a LARGE sum of money from us last October. We actually DO have roof damage and now cannot afford to get one. I've also filed a complaint with Rebecca Wild at the Attorney General's Office. Would love to take them to court but don't even know where to start.

I agree stay away from CSI. They are dirty. The owner and accountant have lied to us numerous times. Also our insurance will not help us.
Fraud
This company offered a free roof inspection. After the inspection the "roof inpector" stated that my roof was so badly damaged he was "afraid" to walk on it. We filed a claim with our insurance company and I check the company out. They have been kicked out of the BBB and are under investigation for working without proper municipal permits in El Paso County. Our insurance adjuster came and inspected the roof and said our roof was in very good shape and did not need to be replaced, he denied the claim. A lady from CSI called the next day to set up an appointment, she told me that the claim had been approved and the payment had been issued. I told her that the claim had been denied and there was no payment, she said our contract would be cancelled. The next day, the same lady called again and stated that they had received paperwork from our insurance company, our claim was approved and we would be receiving our money in a few days. I once again told her that the insurance adjuster had denied the claim, she then stated that she had spoken directly to the adjuster an he told her the claim was approved, I hung up on her and called the adjuster, left a message and the minute I hung up CSI called again. This time the lady stated she had checked with the insurance company again and that the claim was denied. Our adjuster called back after that and he laughed when I told him what CSI had said, he said he NEVER spoke to anyone at CSI about our claim. Anyhow, beware...there are 119 homes in Denver that are contracted with this company...6 months ago...they still don't have roofs and probably never will. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY!
Glenn,
Thanks so much for inserting your professional opinion. I know these people spew a lot of crap, but it's nice to have some back-up from someone who is in the business and reputable. Utimately it is the homeowners responsibilty to check out any contracter before doing business with them, but as I said before not all people have the knowledge of how to do that. My heart goes out to anyone who has been scammed by these people and best of luck on trying to get your money back. I am perfectly willing to offer any help I can with getting these jerks out of business and exposing this scam.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ADDRESS AND PHONE # LISTED ABOVE IS NOT A PHONE # FOR THIS COMPANY!

Slumbergirl was Colorado Roof Exchange the ones you presented to you a contract and asked for the check upfront?
I just called the office number for CSI and it was disconnected. I went to the website listed on the business cards and the paperwork and it is not found either. Luckily I never handed over my check, but they had the same story for me. I'm so glad I've waited!

I to was scammed by these ### and gave them my insurance check back in Nov. 08. I have filed my complaint with the BBB and the Colorado Attorney Generals office. Of course since then I have lost my job and there is no way I can replace my roof without the ins. money. I'am sick over this whole ordeal and have no idea how I'm going to get a new now.
If this CSI company doesn't do the repairs or refund people back their money, then they'll get what they deserve. I did the same thing back November 2008, I signed over my insurance claims check to these idiots. If it wasn't for the winter months, I would have bugged these people more about my roof, and would have found out sooner about this mess. We're also filing a complaint thru the Colorado Attorney Generals Office. I can't believe these low lives are causing people such grief, with the way so many folks are struggling to pay their bills these days.
We too got screwed by these people. They took our "down payment" last October which was basically 3/4 of the entire cost, and a large sum. Thank God we have not had any leaks throughout the Winter and now Spring. We actually DO have damage and NEED a roof, and cannot afford any more out of pocket! These people disgust me and all the employees that went along with it. We dealt with Troy Wise and do have a cell number for him but never get a response...of course! Please, everyone that has been swindled by them, file your complaints. It's so important.
We've officially joined the list who got swindled by this corrupt company (companies?). We called Rebecca Wild of the State Attorney General's Office at [protected] and filed a Consumer Complaint Form, as she suggested, after our latest encounter with Claims Specialists Incorporated (CSI)/ K-2 Roofing or whatever they are called at present. I would suggest that everyone else who have been victims of these people do the same. The more of us who speak out the better chance we have of obtaining justice from these people.
Contractor here too. Indiana. The sad fact is, most of these rats are hooked up w/ the adjuster. Too many, not all, adjusters will push these guys onto an unsuspecting public. Too bad that the word is not out as they are thriving.
I do dis-agree about taking a dowpayment. It locks the job for both of us. I don't need the DP, but I don't want a homeowner backing out of the deal either.
I take 25% down. It seems kind of like tradition here. When I started in 1990 I refused them. But people kept insisting and it has made my business life better since I started taking them. On short jobs, coming up quick, I do not require them. In fact i actually don't "require" them at all. They ask, or offer, and I accept.
I know this is a long winded argument, and no one is really right or wrong. But if you can't trust your contractor w/ a DP, how in the heck can you trust him to take care of your roof?
As a sidenote, due to the long hard winter we just had, we are just now completeing a $27, 000 that we started in December. I have ONLY been paid the DP., of $5000. I will be getting paid in full tommorrow.
