Coast Capital Savings Credit Union review: Elevate chequing account

I recently experienced significant issues with Coast Capital Savings, specifically involving four transactions at their branch, including an ATM withdrawal at Coast Capital North Road in Burnaby. Approximately six weeks after opening my account, I became a victim of unauthorized access, resulting in over $680 being stolen from my account. This incident highlights a severe deficiency in Coast Capital Savings' security measures and their failure to safeguard customer funds.

Initially, I sought assistance to change my PIN, but my request was denied. Subsequently, I scheduled an appointment, which was confirmed via email from Coast Capital Savings. Despite this confirmation, upon arrival, the branch staff claimed no appointment was on record. I provided proof of the appointment, yet the assistant manager instructed me to leave and informed me that my account was being closed — a decision I did not authorize.

Two hours after this encounter, I received a notification indicating that all funds had been withdrawn from my account. This not only deprived me of my money but also thwarted my opportunity to benefit from a welcome bonus offer. Furthermore, I encountered misleading and evasive responses from customer service, which appeared to obfuscate the issue rather than address the security breach.

I requested written confirmation that the unauthorized transaction would not impact my eligibility for the $400 welcome bonus. Despite assurances, Coast Capital Savings has refused to provide such written documentation. This situation underscores a broader failure of Coast Capital Savings to uphold its contractual obligations and protect customer funds from unauthorized use. Their verbal assurances are insufficient in light of their evident shortcomings in adhering to business law and safeguarding consumer interests.
