Coinstar $211.20 stolen by your Coinstar machine

Call October 20 I went to Vons market located in Long Beach California to submit coins into the coin star machine I put in the machine few Coy’s the gate and I pushed buddy for a ticket gave me $29 and some change I had over $200 worth a change there but the machine was full and end up getting my phone stuck in the machine that wouldn’t come out or go down and no one was able to open the machine at that time to help me. I’ve been calling I have been to find market several times to get my money today is October 28th, 2023 and I’m still getting the runaround from your company and from Vons market in Long Beach at this point my attorney has advised me the only alternative is to file a lawsuit against your company. I was informed that it was $211.20 owed to me now they’re telling me they need to do all kind of research and 30 day audits and all kind of crap to give me the runaround and I have had it, and I will be following against your company within a few days

Recommendation: Never use Coinstar if you have a lot of change because they are not willing to pay up when you get a machine is overrun with coins. The machine jammed, and never gave me my money or my ticket.

Coinstar Kiosk Amazon Voucher

I brought my coins to the coinstar kiosk at the Safeway on 7/14/2023, 9 AM (machine code #31424, transaction #19427) and exchanged my 130.62 worth of coins for an amazon gift card. However, when I went to redeem the gift card for an amazon purchase on Oct 11, 2023, amazon claimed I had only $102.31.

I never used the certificate code. So how did I lose 28$?

Desired outcome: Refund me the 28$, please.

Coinstar Poor Customer Service

Went to Walmart to use machine and dropped 224$ worth of coins into it. Received voucher, and took to Walmart cashier to redeem.

Cashier says they cannot handle transaction, go to Customer Service. Customer Service sends us back to a cashier. Back to Customer Service, back to cashier. If you are counting, that's 4 lines.

No resolution. Call Coinstar, and they say Walmart's integration with their software is poor. Well, I can't fix that - so how do I get my money. Their answer is to go back to Walmart "another time" to try again.

This is unacceptable. They essentially took the money and offered no service. And they have the arrogance to take a "service fee." What service?

Desired outcome: I would like a response and an apology.

Coinstar Coinstar voucher

I put my coins into a Coinstar kiosk at my nearest Walmart. When I tried to redeem the voucher at customer service the register spat out a tiny receipt saying the transaction is invalid and to call customer service. However customer service cannot be reached. It rings a few times and then busy signal. Then after countless times trying again and again I get a machine that puts me i a queue then automatically disconnects me after waiting 15 minutes saying the voicemail is full. Walmart employees including managers are oblivious as to what to do and there is no way to reach coinstar customer service. This is unacceptable for what I thought was a reputable company. I do not see a solution in sight.

Desired outcome: Let me redeem my voucher or at least give me a way to contact someone who can help

Coinstar Cash voucher redemption/customer service

On June 13, 2023, I attempted to exchange my coins for cash using the Coinstar kiosk at Walmart Neighborhood Market in Statesboro, GA.

My voucher's value is $236.43, and when I attempted to redeem my voucher - it wouldn't scan.

So the employee manually put in the number, still no dice.

Then they tried calling Coinstar Support, no answer.

They told I could redeem the voucher at anywhere that does Coinstar.

So then I try calling Customer Support, and the line is busy. At 1 PM in the afternoon. AT 1PM IN THE AFTERNOON! For what, a coffee break?

Needless to say I am very disappointed in this lack of service, not even an email for support.

Glad this is the last time I'm using Coinstar ever.

Desired outcome: To have my cash voucher redeemed, along with the 11.9% for counting - because this drop in service is ridiculuous.

Coinstar Took too much of our money

As I’m sure plenty of people have experienced, the coinstar at our Walmart Neighborhood Market took a huge chunk of our money too.

My husband and I usually throw our change into a “treasure box” so we can have it changed for bills when rent or other bills come up. We didn’t have but $11, but that was going to finish up the last little stretch for rent that day. Out of $11 we ended up with barely $8 and that shorted us a few dollars on rent. Luckily our apartment manager knew we’d pay the rest within a week and allowed us not to have a fee because of it. We will NEVER use Coinstar again.

Desired outcome: Nothing. We just won’t be using Coinstar ever again

Coinstar Coinstar Payment not received.

This another complaint very much on the same lines at the person in Ascomb in York.

Last week 07/10/2022 my wife deposited an amount of coins around £16 into the Coinstar machine located at Sainsburys supermarket at Blackhall,Edinburgh. A receipt was issued which she kept, intending to get value for the next time we shopped. Yes the receipt did advise to cash it the same day, but nowhere did it say that if you didn't ,Coinstar would keep the money. Can you imagine how much cash Coinstar are making from people who have had the same experience ? And why are the machines placed beyond the check out areas ? Possible to encourage people to delay getting value for their coins until

it is too late ?

Desired outcome: Value for the voucher for one,and more warning on the machines of the consequences of not cashing the voucher immediately

Coinstar payment not received.

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to you to raise an issue about: In-store Coinstar Machine at Morrisons in Acomb ,York.

The issue that I have experienced was: I took 2 bags of change into the store on the 15/09/2022 one at 9.21 am and one at 10.08 am. and put them into the Charity money Counter Coinstar , they were money that my Grandchildren had saved. There were big queues at the checkouts and at customer services .so I asked an assistant if i could redeem them later. She said Yes that would be OK. So I thought that I would be able to redeem them at a later date. I gave my Grandchildren the money because I had both vouchers to redeem. I went in yesterday to cash them in but was made aware that I could only cash them in on the day of using the Cash Counter. I went back into the Acomb .York Store today to see the manager , but they were in a meeting , so i spoke to the Checkout team Leader Naomi . She said she was unable to do anything, and advised me to email Customer Services. They have advised me that they can't do anything and to get in touch with you.

It occurred on: 15 /09/2022

This meant that I am really upset about this as it is a lot of money to lose.I don't understand why, as they are Morrisons Vouchers I had only that day to redeem them. I now have been made aware that it does say on the Vouchers to Please Redeem that day but does not say you will lose your money if you don't ! Surely that is a bit unfair , the charity had already taken 10% of the money and now you have taken the other 90%.

I would just like the money that is owed . It does not state on the Voucher that I would lose the money if I didn't redeem them that day.

See below from your FAQ page it doesn't say anything about losing your money if not redeemed that day

This from your FAQs page :-

Does the Coinstar cash voucher need to be redeemed for cash the day of the transaction?

You should always redeem your voucher on the same day it was issued. This helps reduce the chances that your voucher may become lost or stolen.

Desired outcome: Would like the money that is owed to me. It is a lot of money and seems very underhand way of keeping peoples money especially in this climate at the moment when I really need the money.

Coinstar Coin star

I visited a coin star machine in Walmart in Columbus Ms today. The machine froze and wouldn't give me a receipt to cash in. So I called the 1-800 number given on the machine to which their customer service informed me that their machines were their top priority not the customer. They said they would send a technician out but couldn't give me any idea of when. So not only did I not get my money the customer service said that the technician would have to collect my change and rerun it through the machine and print me a receipt, but when I asked for my change to be returned to me they said that they didn't have any way of retrieving my change from the machine and they would still be charging the fee because I had agreed to it before I put any change into it. So not only did they not care that their machine had took all of my change and I had to wait for a technician to come out they would still get their fees instead of returning my change. I had explained to them that I was trying to cash in my change because my children were in need of things and I didn't get paid for a couple of days. They didn't care that they took everything I had left all they cared about was their machines and making sure they collect the fees associated with it even though I didn't receive the money and don't have any idea of when I will

Desired outcome: I would like my coins returned to me from the technician I refuse to pay any fees.

Coinstar Coinstar machine at 2900 North Velasco, Angleton, TX 77515

On 7/22/2022 at 9:53 am I took a shaving kit bag full of coins to the location above. The bag contained over $600.00 worth of coins I had been saving for at least five years. When I finished putting the coins in it gave me a ticket for $104.36. I put in over $4.00 of rejected coins and it gave me a ticket for $1.31. I immediately notified the bank where this machine was located and they called Coinstar to file a complaint #141751. The bank took the machine out of order and when they opened the machine they saw that the ball was missing. When I called on 8/1 and 8/8 and again on 8/26 when I was told an audit was conducted and nothing was found to be out of order. That absolutely cannot be right. I did count these coins about a year ago and at that time there was around $450.00. I continued saving for another year after that so I don't know what happened to my money but I didn't get it.

What other recourse do I have? I am retired and live off social security and this was a lot of money.I

Thank you for your help.

Sybil Morris

Desired outcome: I would like to receive the remainder of the money I lost in your machine which I know to be at least $500.00.

Even if every single coin in a shaving kit bag was a dollar coin, it wouldn’t add up to $450. I used to work in a money vault, counting tens of thousands of dollars daily both in coin and bills. A shaving bag just does not have the capacity for $450 in coin let alone anything more than so. You must be confused. Sorry.

Coinstar Unauthorized fees

On June 27 I used a machine at Safeway in Bethesda MD. As usual, I selected the no-fee Amazon e-gift option. The machine broke and a screen said the transaction could not be completed. A store manager was able to restart the machine which caused the machine to issue a receipt for a CASH voucher including a processing fee when I had chosen a no-fee option. I tried a second time, again choosing the no-fee e-gift option and the same thing happened again: machine broke, store manager restarted it and the machine printed a receipt for yet another processing fee. I was on hold for 30+ mins with the customer service line and no one helped. I have tried via Twitter and Facebook. I guess the next step is BBB, FTC, CFPB and state AG.

Desired outcome: Refund of two unauthorized processing fees: $2.70 and $6.45.

Coinstar Coinstar Amazon gift voucher-number fades out early

I dropped coins in my local Coinstar machine and received a $63.16 gift voucher for Amazon on 8/3/21. I know these vouchers fade with time so I put a piece of clear tape over the number. This didn't work - 4 months later I took it out of my desk drawer to use and the number had faded completely - even though the rest of the voucher ink was just fine - no fading and easily readable. This tells me that it was designed this way on purpose. How many people are unable to redeem their gift vouchers because they've faded? This is not the first time which is why I put the clear tape over it. I have had this happen several times.

I can still read "No expiration date. Not redeemable for cash etc". This is clearly a fraudulent practice.

Desired outcome: I would like to receive my $63.16 back!

Coinstar exchange service

This is the second time this has happened. I went to my local QFC and because I did not want a fee and I use Amazon, chose an Amazon Gift Card. That works out well and costs nothing.

There are a few warnings and they verify that's what you want. Then they have you wait and out pops your receipt. You go home and enter the number on your Amazon Account.

But, for a second time, the receipt reads "Due to an error, we cannot provide the product you chose. Please redeem this voucher at this location today for your refund.

Did you notice the word "today"? Both times when I did this the service desk was closed. And the next day they told me that cannot honor coinstar receipts except on the same day.

There was no notice that I was getting anything different than I asked. And there was no opportunity to do anything or to ask for my coins back.

Coinstar took my money agreeing to give me an Amazon gift certificate, then told me that I had to take it to a place that would not redeem it. And I had no opportunity to change my mind.

The coinstar website form did not work. As it is after 9pm I have to wait for tomorrow to call customer service. I also noticed that if someone is having trouble completing a transaction at the machine to call customer service. So I guess they want one to spend the night at a machine if you are having problems with it.

If they take your money and I agree to the redemption, they have no right to change it without notifying me, and certainly should not place their machines in places that will not redeem the receipts or place additional restrictions.

I will get the money. But I thought others should know some of the tactics they use. They know people will lose the receipts and give up after several attempts. It's a great way to collect money and return nothing.

It's the store policy that they want the receipt cashed the same day, not Coinstars. They want their daily receipts to match the coinstar reports for their payouts. Coinstar's liability ends when the receipt is printed. When a machine is placed, the store agrees to payout on that receipt. What restrictions they put on paying out is the store's doing. The store is paid their percentage according to what the machine report says what coins were run. If a customer loses a receipt the store still get's paid for that transaction. Coinstar does not make any extra money for receipts not turned in or lost or destroyed in the wash. The store has your money.

Coinstar pays the store the amount of the transaction because they assume the store paid that amount to the customer, plus a percentage of the fee charged for having the machine there. If the report says the machine took in $5, 000 in coin in a week, the store get's paid $5, 000, ( plus part of the fee.) Coinstar can't look at each transaction on the machine to see if the store actually paid out on that transaction.. Hope this helps...

Coinstar Theft

The coinstar machine at this location is a thief! I put a few dollars of coins into the machine... after a few seconds the machine said "we can not continue this transaction. Don't worry your coins are safe." I should have been worried because when I got a store associate to help, I was meet with "I don't know what to do, sorry." Do not use this coinstar machine, it is a criminal!

When a machine is installed at a customer location the store personel are trained on what to do if the machine jams, how to clear the jam, and how to contact Coinstar if they need assistance. They have machine keys to be able to open the machine and retrieve any coins not run and return them to you.

The store gets paid for any coins that were run before the jam, and when a tech is called to fix a machine, any coin they find is run through the machine and the receipt is given to the customer service desk. The store then gets paid for that receipt also. Sounds like the store blew you off because they were lazy or busy. Not Coinstars fault.

If you call Coinstar and tell them right away what happened, they can inform the tech that if any coin is found, to let them know during service and they will contact you with a total and send you a check. Coinstar tries very hard to make sure that all coins run through the machine are credited to the customer.

Coinstar Bad customer service

I used a Coinstar machine within a local grocery store to redeem $175 worth of coins to a Amazon.com eCertificate. The gift code that was printed on the receipt did not work on Amazon.com. After numerous phone calls to both Coinstar and Amazon.com customer service help lines, it was determined that the gift card code was printed correctly and valid, but expired due from long disuse in the machine.

Unfortunately, neither company will claim responsibility for this problem.

Although, in my opinion, my change is still in the Coinstar machine at the end of the day and they need to issue me a valid gift card code.

Overall, Amazon.com customer service treated me like a human being, with courtesy and respect. The Coinstar customer service was rude, unkind, and unsympathetic to my problem.

I will choose not to use Coinstar again, but may continue to use Amazon.com in the future.
