I was looking for a quote for a long distance move and called three companies. I appreciate the way the sales rep at Colonial handled the situation at the start. He gave me, what seemed like, a good quote and seemed to know what he was doing. That was the end of my positive experience that turned into a nightmare. I inquired from the start the type of truck they would send, he told me a 48 ft transport truck, which sounded good to me to move my 4 bdrm house 1000 miles. On move day 2 men show up with a 26 ft truck. I said, I hope that's not the truck you're using for my move. After a walk through, the movers said that truck is not big enough. Obviously! I was quoted at 12,500 lb move which turned out to be 6,000 pounds too light and $5,000 lower than the actual price. What a egregious error by the rep that did the quote. When I questioned them, they kept towing the company line saying they would review the tapes about our conversation and take care of me. Once the weights were completed they would step up with a monitary correction. How is somebody 6,000 lb off on a quote? They ended up having to send a 2nd 26-ft truck, but still only had two men packing and loading, which made no sense to me. Bigger house, 2 trucks and no extra men? In the end the two men turned out to be the best part of the move, and the irony is they're not even Colonial Van Lines employees. They are subcontracted out from another company. Not one Colonial Van Line rep would admit they made an error or do anything to correct a 6,000 lb/ $5,000 mistake once the movers were done. They ended up blaming me for the error saying everything that was quoted was in the in the house. Clueless company and bait and switch artists! Straight up lied to me on multiple occasions.
If you are considering using this company, find someone else. It will be the best decision you ever made! No accountability and fast talking liars work for this company!
