Same story as all the other poor suckers. It fully seemed like a standard 'Verification' (similar to Twitter/Tinder/Depop, whatever) with no mention of price either while I filled in my card details or when I pressed confirm. Then a Ā£51 charge just appeared on my card.
I honestly can't believe that any modern-day company - let alone one that claims to be based on community and that presents as a friend to cash-strapped travelers - would use ugly techniques like this. Contacting Couchsurfing's Customer Service is a humiliating experience - they simply refer to their Terms & Conditions and use a breezy, 'Enjoy the community!' tone without acknowledging any fault or expressing any sympathy, or even addressing the issue. It's honestly disgusting. I am raging and disappointed.
I advise everyone here to spam Couchsurfing's social media - Facebook, Twitter, whatever - tagging them and telling your story. If enough of us do it, their pages will be flooded and maybe they'll be forced to behave like decent humans š¢
Desired outcome: Full refund ASAP
