This terrible company should be put out of business by regulators
Where do I begin. This company deserves no star at all, and if I could give negative stars I would.
Dave behaves as if they know everything about your finances and wants to play god.
It all pertains to their Extra Cash — for two solid years I was eligible for the maximum advance allowed and it was always paid back on time. Then in the last two to three months, Dave really wanted to play god and state that my consistent $500 advance was reduced to $400 then to $300 then to $125. This is based on their FLAWED system which Dave says is not flawed and they do not feel any investigation is necessary. Customer service is like having all your teeth drilled without novocaine. When you ask to speak to a supervisor, you get stall tactics and are repeatedly told, "A Supervisor will tell you the same information" The company relies on their flawed system which is just unintelligent, Artificial Intelligence and the company does not have any power to fix their flawed system. So the experience is, you are driving a car, you get a flat tire and all you do is say, my car is not drivable because I have a flat tire, the car is what it is and no human being can ever get the car drivable again. What a pathetic business model. Customer service hides behind some unintelligent response that their system refreshes every 24 hours. Well if the the system is flawed to begin with, 24 hour refreshing just repeats the flaws.
The issue is Dave states that Extra Cash eligibility is based on income, expenses, spending habits and bank account health such as a negative balance. Well guess what, my biweekly salary has been the same for the last year, my expenses are consistent, my bank account health is fine and every Dave advance was paid on time. Yet, Dave decreased my eligibility from $500 to $400 to $300 to $125 — because they play god and think they know my finances better than me. So for every reason that Dave says affects my eligibility there has been no significant change yet I went from $500 to $125 eligibility.
Dave has broken a valuable business ethic that you do not mess with peoples lives, if you have consistently had a $500 advance, and again I use the word consistent, and in a matter of one to two days, you do not receive the same amount advanced that you repaid that is a deficit in available funds to pay for important things, like gas for the car to get to work, groceries to feed your family, prescription medication for your loved one suffering with a terminal illness. When Dave plays god, you go from consistently having no deficit as the repayment and advance are the same to having a $375 deficit when the repayment is $500 and the new funding is $125, You take $375 out of your pocket and see how much gas, groceries and prescription meds you can buy. When I finally reached a supervisor after days of stall tactics the supervisor stated that I should not rely on Dave advances. Well that is analogous to an illegal drug dealer feeding their customer drug after drug and then judging or playing god, and saying you should not use drugs.
The bottom line is the company's business practices are terrible, because they play god based on artificial intelligence, and will not admit their artificial intelligence is unintelligent. Dave states that since their system is not flawed, they do not need humans to fix anything. Dave does not recognize the negative impact they have on peoples lives by playing god.
I will be figuring out what government agency regulates Dave and I will share all of my transaction history to shed light on exactly how terrible Dave is! I will aggressively pursue action to ensure that Dave is either put out of business or simply fixes their terrible business practices, that injure, harass and hassle their customers who have done nothing wrong!
Dave advertises that they want to change how banking is done. It has been my experience that Dave has definitely changed the world of banking but not for the better!
Recommendation: If you see the Dave the bear app, run for your life and do not look back!
Mixed Feelings/Inconsistent App
WARNING*** I have an abusive relationship w/Dave!
I first want to say that the concept of Dave's app is amazing! But the interface of how Dave's network has a great deal of improvement within the development of how this app interacts with mainstream banking and upgrading its lack of output.
To be more specific, I’ve gone on and off from utilizing Dave as a source due to it's inconsistency of how it's algorithm selects in how it will service you. It has taken a long time for Dave to accept either of my banking institutions (which are popular) I was constantly getting notifications stating that there were errors of their site accepting my login information to my bank as well as constantly being told that my paycheck wasn't visible in my account, even though it was. As most of you know that Dave's system must be in alignment with making notice that it recognizes your paycheck in order for you to borrow on a higher scale $75 & up. So when the app is having server/overall app issues this can prevent you from using this app in a productive way.
Moving on, sometimes it would allow me to borrow money but the majority of the time I would receive an ”error” message stating Dave was having problems with the system. On numerous occasions, I have emailed the customer service department and the best response I get is ”try again later” (providing ZERO customer service) every time I end up leaving out of frustration and one was member fee $1 out of my pocket, lol which means something to me because here this company doesn't cover their policy but there quick to take your money and not resolve the problem. Imagine if they are doing this to a minimum, of 30,000 out of 60,000 people (for example) they would literally be making 30,000 off of those who are not being properly serviced but paying for membership.
At the end of the day, I will say that Dave is a ”hit or miss” situation and that it can be affecting people differently BUT nonetheless, my personal advice is to give a shot and if it works for you, then stick with it, but if your constantly having problems RUN but make sure you leave FEEDBACK for others so that maybe this will alert DAVE on a mass level.
It was great then chasing tails
OK, so Dave has been working great with me. I was able to get my advances in what have you and I always paid him back never had a problem paying him back so back in September for some ungodly reason it would not allow me to do the advance it would approve me. It would take me all the way to the screen do my tip do whatever I needed to do like it always does but then it always air out and saying that it could not do that for me so for months I had continuously sent screenshots of the same error message and I continuously got the same response of well you’ve been escalated and worse we promise we will get this figured out blah blah blah. You know same song, and dance that it hurt every time before OK so fast forward to today now I noticed that my app is different because instead of saying advance, it says extra cash well I don’t remember I don’t ever remember hitting the close account button because I didn’t they’re telling me I did to each their own, regardless of who did it apparently it was not meant to do so this is what they’re telling me. We’re sorry, but we can’t we can’t open the account no more you were no longer able to have an extra care account because you closed it out. No I did not so they’re even telling me that if I I can’t even start a new account and just start from scratch they’re not gonna allow me to do that, so how is that right? I really really really enjoyed this Dave app and I thought it was a great app and a great service but after they did this crap to me, I have had it you are not gonna sit here and tell me that you’re not going to help me find a solution to this problem because I don’t want that the account closed you get my other account open but she wouldn’t keep this one open which is kind of sketchy anyways so if they weren’t, I’m really really really really unimpressed with Dave because it looks like they wrote something out that they have no idea how to work I will be talking with my friends and family and pulling them from Dave because I don’t ever wanna see somebody get put in the situation and get to the point to where they are literally running in circles and getting nowhere with a company that supposed to be helping you ever!
Good app
Great when your in a pinch, and can really turn those fees you would otherwise be charged into a positive. I mean each overdraft fee in my bank is $35 and with just two of those on even a charge of $5 dollars adds up very quickly. Because of Dave I have saved maybe in the ball park of $500 in overdraft fees in 2019 which is a huge deal. Now I may be off with that number and it may not be that high, but even if it was only $100 dollars that would still be worth it. Thanks Dave for providing a quick and easy solution to something that has plagued many bank account holders for years. Those dang overdraft fees add up so quickly and in most cases are very difficult to overturn with your bank and that’s if they even do it. This is a great protection so that you don’t have to spend that time and energy trying to fight with the bank to refund the money back, but instead prevents it from happening altogether. We all know the one thing we can never get back is time, and saving it to be spent on more important matters knowing that your protected is a pretty good feeling in which I think all could agree. I’ll close with this thought, and it’s for those who think it may not be good. The fact is in today’s world the middle classes are taxed so heavily while the rich are not which is completely backwards. We take the largest hit on our paychecks, and so many Americans live paycheck to paycheck because of these ridiculous taxes. Our forefathers fought the English because of these taxation’s and died so that a mans earned wage would be his own. Now our government continues to increase taxes year after year because of the services that they provide to those who are to lazy to work, and to those who abuse the system so greatly that they are taking out the middle class altogether which is the backbone of this country. The real solution instead of apps like this even though it is great is to stop giving to those who don’t want to do something for themselves so that taxes don’t have to continue to increase. Maybe we should look to this as a real problem to solve so that apps like Dave don’t have to exist to those that disagree with it. Take care and keep on trucking fellow Dave users cause until then this app is a necessity.
RUN AWAY FAST
First off, the fee to use Dave is higher than other services. Then if you run in to problems with Dave, you cannot reach anyone. You get bot replies to emails and their Facebook. They did respond to my angry Facebook post on their page, saying to message them... Then they ignored the message I sent them. *facepalm
They will ignore all your requests for help.
I borrowed $75, but when they went to take the money out, even though I had the money, they failed to process my payment and sent me an email saying to manually make my payment. Here's where it gets fun, I tried and it told me you can't make multiple payments within a 72 hour window. I had made no successful payments. I tried every day for almost two weeks. Same error. Ocassionally I would get "outside of ACH payment window," so I checked their help section, and it says payments can only be made Monday through Thursday. Try again later. It was a Tuesday. :( Tried again, same error, it was a Thursday.
Meanwhile, I had sent multiple support requests, all of which were ignored, but they still keep taking your $1 subscription, yet somehow they can't process my actual payment off the same card that my subscription fee is coming from. Hmm... Seems like a scam since you cant cancel if you can't pay off your mini loan.
Since Dave ignored all my requests for help, I decided to try a different card (this should NOT matter since the card that was already on my Dave account would process the $1 subscription fee and had hundreds available at all times) but I figured I'd try anything to get out of this Trap. Only part that made this hard, is I only have the one card. To fix this myself since Dave will not have a real person respond to your support requests, I had to order a paypal card, wait for it to show up, transfer money to that paypal card, wait for it to get to the PayPal card then finally... Try to pay again. For some reason this card worked.
No clue why my bank card that Dave was taking subscription fees from successfully, my card that had hundreds of dollars on it, the card that was set up to auto pay back Dave would not work... Except to take that $1 fee that I was trapped with. I'll never know why it didn't work either since Dave ignored my requests for help.
Absolutely horrible experience. Do not trust Dave.
Waiting for negative bank balance
I’ve used this app several times and have always paid back on time if not early. I’m currently waiting for this instance to turn into a bad experience with my account going negative, regardless of how they tell me “not to worry”.
My company pay date is on the 15th, if that falls on a weekend then it will pay the next available day. The 15th is Saturday, Monday is a holiday, so my payday is Tuesday Feb 18th, but FOR SOME REASON Dave decided that my company would pay me early on Feb 14th, on Valentine’s Day! My company does NOT pay us early so I’m not sure why Dave arbitrarily decided this date. When I noticed this Feb 2 I contacted customer support about the error so it could be fixed before I borrowed money. THREE days later they reply just to ask if I still need help—well considering you haven’t fixed my problem, yes I do. I wait all day for another reply and nothing.
At this point I can’t afford to wait longer, I can’t wait another three days for them to fix the issue as I have a bill to pay. I borrow the $75. Of course the very next morning I get a reply that they can’t change the payback date since I’ve already taken money out and that once I get more paychecks that my future payback dates can be changed to reflect the new paydays. First of all, no. My paydays never changed in the first place YOU just decided my company would pay me early for no reason AND THEN waited until after I borrowed money to actually reply to my support request.
There are many bills that once you’ve paid them they don’t show up for days, not even as pending so I’m already anticipating Dave taking out a “partial” payment and my account going negative. On top of this Dave says it will try to take out more money everyday until it is paid in full so if I put in more money, you know, so I can eat! Dave will just take that money right back out for again for themselves. I understand that they need to get paid back but this is their mess up and I feel like I’m being punished for it, all because THEY randomly changed my payday, and THEY couldn’t reply to my request in a timely manner. I highly recommend hiring more custom support to handle the amount of inquires you receive because four days is a ridiculously long time.
Of course if I’m wrong I’ll change this but I sincerely doubt it so I look forward to not being able to eat from Feb 14-17. Thanks!
Super helpful! (Detailed review)
I have no idea what the other reviews say (if there are any) but I found Dave to be super helpful. From what I gathered from this app, it’s designed to basically be an aide to financially you if you ever need it. To basically be a spotter for you and help tie you over till payday and avoid overdraft fees etc.
I saw an ad on Snapchat and they advertised, “do you need a quick $75 to tie you over till payday? Swipe up and see how you can today” (I'm paraphrasing of course)
I had a lot of bills I was catching up on (they all hit at the beginning of the month) so i was already low.. but I had a decent amount to get me to payday,,, and then BOOM! Our annual gym membership fee for my wife and I came out... $50 a person once a year that we forgot to budget for. ♂️
Now you can say that “you need to be better with your money and with budgeting etc.” but life happens and Dave came in clutch for us.
So the app itself:
Basically you pay $1 a month and Dave can spot you up to $75 at a time that you would essentially pay BACK when payday comes around. So they pay you $5-75 on whatever day and then schedule for them to take out that amount out on Friday (or whenever payday is)
Super helpful, and i have no complaints!
I will say, that when you FIRST download the app and create an account, they only offer 5, 10, and 20 dollars. They have to monitor your account to see that you have a steady income and that you ARE able to pay back that $75 if they were to give it to you. So it’ll take maybe 2-3 pay periods before they actually offer a $75 amount. But, until then they will still spot you up to $20
To send YOU the money, they have a free version (1-3 business days before it’s in your account) or a instant one that costs $2.99... to avoid the overdraft fees, you’d probably want to go with the fast one. So they pay you 20 THAT DAY, and then you pay them $22.99 on payday.
For just a dollar a month, and a small conscience fee for the instant in your account option, I think its a great concept.
Now, I hoping to not run into this situation every week, but life happens and this is a great alternative to selling stuff or calling a relative, or heck, way better than letting your account go under and getting slammed with $35+ overdraft fees! There’s more features that you’ll see if you download; this is already a long enough review
I hope this was helpful!
Used to be great!
This app only gets a star just so I can write the review! Used to love Dave but Dave has gotten worse.. let’s start with my direct deposit from same employer for 6 plus years, (only been with Dave a year with my direct deposit) but used to get paid early like advertised! Not now… Dave has been holding my deposits, but claiming they are not… don’t advertise early if your not gonna do it! I know it to be true because sometimes when I should get a early pay on a Friday, thinking I’ll have to wait till Monday and I get the deposit on sat or Sunday… no other reason for that except hold or delay since deposits don’t happen on weekends!
Now let’s get into the advances, don’t get me wrong I like the advance but when I have over 5k a month direct deposit and only qualify for 200 out of 500 and my employer has been the same, something is not right about that…. Even when it went from 200 to 250 Dave kept me at 200..
also let’s get into the fact that Dave holds your funds at payday making your advance payment late, because of Dave being late I need to have a friend send me money so I can wait for my check and Dave takes 75 % for their advance when they have my check and know that it’s gonna be covered the moment Dave releases it! So now I borrowed 20 and got 5 bucks in my account when I needed it the most.. after me always paying back Dave with my direct deposit why is Dave taking my money that’s not my direct deposit!
Right now for instance the people I know who have Varo chime current SoFi and a few others that have the same employer and pay dates have all been paid yesterday, here I am no paycheck ! And I need it the most right now! But not to worry Dave took 15 of the 20 sent to me from a friend with same employment and tho that friend has Varo . Well let’s just say I ran out of gas for the first time ever and 5 does not go far in a Dodge Charger. So thanks for that Dave…
It’s not normally like this I make plenty I just had to get a probate attorney for my disabled sons conservitorship so money is so tight and I’ll add Dave has made it harder!
I used to be with chime and I miss chime when chime says they will give you the pay early they mean it! Like Dave used to mean it! So I’m gonna go back to waiting on Dave for my money with any luck I will get it tomorrow that is one day early , but chances are the way that Dave has been I’ll get it sat or Sunday
Scam
DO NOT USE THIS APP. ITS A SCAM! I deleted this app in April 15th got the email for proof. I haven’t been using it at all this whole time. But I received an email saying I was approved for an advance and I found it very odd because like I said I haven’t used the app but the one time on April 2nd and I deleted the acct. but may 4-5 I got an email saying an advance was approve. I contact support ASAP letting them know that I didn’t request money. I was accused of lying saying I did request money even after showing proof I was still told I requested it. Then the rep sky I spoke with told me she would refund the fees once the advance was paid back. I contact my bank asking them to block them from sending and taking money. They were blocked from my checking but went into my savings and took the money. I have been dealing with this since the fourth arguing with support. I wrote on twitter for a rep to tell me write them. But when I explain the issues I was told to refer to ticket I put in. Today I contact them about my refund and the rep breanna says she can’t refund me. Even after showing her what sky said. I contacted them through Facebook for them to block me and delete my comments. Please don’t use this app. I hope that people report them. Because I’m sure I’m not the only person they have done this too. This app is unprofessional. Wish I could give it no stars. I will be contacting ComplaintsBoard.com and seeking legal action against this app. Update: I have contact apple about the ComplaintsBoard.com complaints they have against they have over 302 (303 now because I reported them to ComplaintsBoard.com) claiming the same scams saying they take money after u delete ur acct. I also spoke with apple about getting this app removed and I am in the process of getting this removed the apple store just waiting for a lead support to email back. Been waiting for a “lead” support from Dave to contact me like breanne said they would. So far they have not. I also contacted my bank to report fraud so they will be investigating these transaction. And as soon as this pandemic is over and everything is open back up I will be suing this company for fraud as well I have screenshots of all of everyone’s review on ComplaintsBoard.com and on apple store for proof for court. It’s sad that I have to go that far but u don’t treat people like this especially going through this pandemic and people are already stress and worried. But again please DONT USE THIS APP
I hate this app!
It’s starts off all sunshine and rainbows. Early pay, cash advances, goals acct. But then they f you over. I set up multiple goals account to help organize my money. I thought it was so cool that Dave had this feature. But as I’m using money for goals and make “withdrawals” there is a limit that I’m getting closer and closer to that I am not made aware of, as I’m doing this. So I’ve reached my limit and now I can’t pay for anything I need because I’ve reached a 6 transaction limit. I understand that some bank have this limit but they also have a fee to go over this limit. This is not the case for Dave. And when I called customer service which I had to call 3 times because of poor service, they kept saying the same thing “there is a limit” even when I said I under that I’m asking to close the acct and have my money transferred into my regular account the said the same thing like I’m an actual person stop reading off a script to me. Then they said if they cancel the goals acct, the money in the acct will only be given to me via a check in the mail which could take 14 days. I asked for a manager and they said there are no managers available…. That does not make sense to me at all! You guys are working with ppl’s sensitive personal information and are telling me there no supervisors/ managers b/c they all clock out at 7pm…. What? Then cash advances require a two direct deposit from an external bank account? Like I literally get paid on Dave y’all advertise early payday but I need an external account to get the advance because I can’t access the money in the goals account?!?!? I hate it here. When my money becomes available in my goals out I’m taking everything out and canceling this account. I hate Dave!
Update: on the 7th of December (the day they said my withdrawal limit was supposed to start over) I was able to make ONE withdrawal before it said i reached my limit AGAIN! I called last week and they said they would send an email to their escalation department and I would get a response in 24-48 hours. It’s been a week. I called today and they said that I was unable to get the rest of my money because my withdrawal limit doesn’t end until dec 18. And the only reason I was able to withdrawal money on the 7th was because that was my 6th withdrawal for the 30 day period… even though I already gotten the error message saying I reached my limit. Dave is really holding my money hostage. This feel very illegal!
I have insufficient funds now
I used Dave for help with covering a bill that I didn’t have enough funds., I had borrowed $75 plus fees and tip.. this app states that they will not take the money out of your account if it’ll cause you to have Insufficient funds.. so I agreed to pay back the following Friday for payday. During the following week I Ended up missing 4 days with both of my children having the flu which I ended up with a slight case of the flu too ! So I ended up getting paid for 9 hours and another bill needed to get paid and the money was applied that Friday morning and this app hasn’t taken its payback yet which according to their app they will never cause a client to have insufficient funds . I knew there wasn’t enough money in my checking Account and I had seen this balance.. Dave had not taken the money out yet which at this point this app couldn’t which I knew but according to what I read this app won’t even take the funds and leave the client in a negative balance . I’m irate ! I didn’t do this on purpose as my children were sick and I don’t have any sick days so I couldn’t pay this app back according to the payback date . I also knew what I read as I was nervous about not being able to pay back on time but knew as soon as I had the funds this app would get pays and nothing was done on purpose. I didn’t know my kids were gonna be sick and unfortunately wouldn’t be able to pay back until the following Friday.. I can’t believe what transpired as I finally checked my balance and was in the process of sending an email fo Dave to explain the unfortunate circumstances that made me short in the process to pay them back this past Friday and so my balance is a negative $-70.00 so negative by that much and I looked and Dave at my balance at $15.00 took it upon himself to take the $81.00 out leaving me in serious insufficient funds ! So now I’m gonna be getting fees from my bank I am so broke because this app did something it states that they will not do and I’m irate ! I get that I had the due date as of this past Friday which normally I work a regular workweek but for circumstances that I couldn’t predict my financial situation changed .. my problem is why did they withdraw what I owed seeing the bank balance was at $15.00? I have logged off of Dave and will never use this app again ! I don’t trust what they have stated about not paying themselves back if the client will be left with insufficient funds and they did just that now I’m really in trouble !
CAREFUL GIG ECONOMY: Security Breach (Instacart Specifically)
I’m sure it’s an honest company, they’re ComplaintsBoard.com Accredited…but I may have got my Instacart Log In info stolen through the Dave App. So, they let you sign into your job (App Jobs, Gig Economy) and I do Instacart. Well, right after logging in I was signed out if my Instacart (sure, this is normal ♂️) BUT… it logs me out everyday now… at least one month later…….EVERY MORNING IT LOGS ME OUT OF MY JOB APP. It happened so many times that I have now received two emails since from my job asking me to reset my password because of the suspicious activity and that I would be suspended or deactivated if it keeps happening, I’m scared that’s strike 3 will mean I’m deactivated…and they are not a merciful company that lets you easily explain and get your job back right away….I will be deactivated overnight with no easy appeal. Inclusively, it has sometimes logged me out 4 times in a row. That means I’d log back in, logs me out, log in, logs me out, etc.. it’s inconvenient when I have to be waiting for orders. Ive lost potential earnings of easily over $100 because I’d accept an order and it would log me out, so I’d lost the order and it goes to someone else (GOOD orders, GOOD customers). But wait, there’s more. I actually accepted an order once (I learned my lesson) around 11 am because I know that it logs me out around 9 am everyday (coding issues are weird) EXCEPT that this day it decided to be a [censored] bag and it logged me out right after I had already claimed and received an order. Needless to say, I lost that order I had already claimed and received…which means that Instacart gave me a cancellation rating. Those are not good, it’s a percentage of up to 15% and then you get deactivated with no coming back ever. That’s 15 orders that I miss and bam…I’m gone. This has been happening for A MONTH even though I have un-linked my job from that Dave App and I even cancelled subscription, closed my spend account; I tried to remove every connection from the Dave App to my job, the Instacart App, and nope…still have this very serious issue that’s making me lose money and they are SLOW to get to the bottom of it. I believe it’s as simple as putting 1 coding manager on the issue. Please fix this, who knows who else is going through this or how many have already lost their Gig Jobs because of it. It’s unacceptable. What if somebody hacked your stuff and you’re over here asking us to sign into our jobs? You should be super secure…it’s a bank…you handle money………………. That’s all.
Been loyal for years until Dave dropped me, then I deleted him!
I’ve had this app for years, told everyone I knew about the app. It “was” a good app until last week! I’ve been getting $100 on and off for years when I needed it. There was a few hiccups to where I couldn’t get approved then last minute I would get approved with another fee added on. The fee was only $5 so I didn’t think anything of it. Over the years I’ve made sure the money was there to pay Dave back. Just this year, within the last few months Dave began offering $500 advances. I would only qualify for $400, so I took it and integrated it for a few months into my cash flow. Mind you I was struggling and battling with workers comp. So this was at the time a dire necessity to have access to. Last week, I paid Dave $400 and some change for a tip, just to only get approved for $100 the following day. I’m having to pay in $900 for taxes this year plus my car payment of $400 was due. I tried the app again in great anxiety just to only be approved for $100 again. So I sent them an email requesting $400. The reply back was confusing. So I asked for more clarification, a yes or no would’ve been the answer. Yet they emailed this policy about how dave determines approval and in so many words saying no. One of the main reasons I installed this app was to help alert and prevent overdrafts. Since I was denied approval and other loan offices were ridiculously sharking people with up to 77% interest rates, I was in a mess. I’m still awaiting to hear back about the car payment deferral because I don’t have the money now for everything. There’s no option to choose lower advances with Dave, so here I am stuck. These apps are good when they’re good, but do not become too dependent on them. They can drop you at any time placing you into a greater problem like mine. So I’ve gone through all the hardship of trying to make it without the cash needed. Ruined one of my on time payment histories, etc. All because? Dave dropped me when I needed him. And if I didn’t look ahead and try to jump through several hoops, my account would’ve been overdrawn because of the sudden drop. So to give Dave a hint that hey I’m not sticking around after this much longer by pausing my membership, still only approved for a $100. So in the process I’ve reconfigured my finances and will have to learn to live without Dave and stop telling people about him. Today I deleted the app. I’m still not happy at all about how this happened. Zero gratification for the long timers is what I gather. This review will be the last of me and Dave. Sorry Dave, they do make more cash advance apps out there! You’ve been replaced!
CONSUMER BEWARE
SKIP TO THE END FOR THE FINAL STRAW
I started an account with Dave and noticed a few really odd things with the account. First, I would get several notifications a day stating I had spent $75 at Walmart, $150 at my local grocery store, etc, but theses even solid numbers were not my spending. When I would go to the app to see the transactions, there was nothing there. I figured it was a glitch but then it got worse.
I started to notice that there were several transactions that were posting a few dollars higher than what the merchant had actually charged me. For example, if I spent $10 at a local restaurant (receipt proof and all), Dave would instantly debit approx. $12. When I called customer service about this, they told me Dave charges an extra 20% at some merchants and that I would get the difference back in eight days. I was not given a coherent reason as to why this happens. Moreover, this happened to me inconsistently. For example, I would spend $10 at a gas station with no issues. Then I would spend another $10 at the same gas station and see a $12 charge on the Dave side.
The final straw happened today when I spent $20 at a gas station at the pump and Dave took out the remaining $50 in my account. Over the course of three hours I, attempted to contact customer service but every option I selected lead me to dead air and then the system would hang up on me.
I finally called their partner bank Evolve and the rep there transferred me to an escalated line at Dave’s offices. I was given a poor excuse as to why my remaining funds were taken (again, the 20% excuse, but no one could explain to me how 20% of $20 somehow equals over $50…) Then, I was transferred to a “supervisor” who insisted I fill out an email form which requires proof of purchase. I was told I would get a response within several business days. Essentially, the burden fell on me to prove how much I actually spent at the gas station. The staff was unwilling to help me in any capacity and eventually, this supervisor hung up on me. His attitude was essentially ‘not my problem’. I’d also like to point out that I did nothing to be hung up on. I did not curse. I did not insult the representative in any way. I simply demanded my funds be returned.
This is absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt from any financial institution or any place of business, period (if Dave can even be considered a legitimate place of business). This organization is hardly a bank. DO NOT PLACE YOUR FUNDS WITH THESE PEOPLE. There’s a real chance you won’t get your money back.
I’ve already launched a complaint with my state’s department of banking and (per their advice) will also be filing a complaint in Dave’s home state of California.
It’s not a scam and if you don’t know how to budget you’ll actually fall in love
In case that title was too hard to read:
It’s not a scam and if you don’t know how to budget you’ll actually fall in love
I’ve actually had the app for a while now and seen situations where I needed it numerous times so I feel like it’s time for me to give something back to it. It’s honestly a life saver. It’s helped me out in a pinch where I really needed an extra $20 to fill my stupidly large car so I could make it to my hometown from where I go to school, it’s helped me pay parking tickets I wasn’t expecting, it’s helped me get out of holes where the effects of impulse shopping just ran through my bank account like a virus. And with the examples of the tight spots this app has gotten me out of, it may sound like it enables bad spending habits but it honestly doesn’t. This isn’t just a “pay day advance” app, it’s a FINANCE app.
I DO have bad spending habits but because Dave is connected directly to my bank account, it sees the patterns and adjusts to support me appropriately. I remember seeing Dave say I couldn’t get an advance because I wasn’t consistently keeping over $150 (i think this limit is based on my income. Not sure if it gets lower for even lower income folks) in my account for longer than a few days (my account wasn’t at risk of overdraft at the time - just low and I wanted to buy something random from target). I was shocked and a bit upset but it was honestly kind of a wake up call to how I was using my money. Based on your expense history, it’ll change its advance rates. There were only two times where I could only advance a maximum of $20 and once when I couldn’t at all and they happened pretty close to each other. It honestly made me LOOK at my expenses and what I was buying. There’s a real difference between your account being low because of your rent payment and your account being low because you go shopping every week because you didn't pay attention to the other bills that will come out later in the month.
I used to always wonder where my paycheck went and why pay week was always so hard but with Dave, I’m becoming more aware of my money and how much I have of it at a given time. He gives forecasts of the lowest balance he predicts will be in your account by pay day based on your spending patterns. For a long time, mine was always pretty low if not negative but it hasn’t been lately! I still shop a lot. I probably always will. But at least I’ve been more conscious of it and where that spending money stands next to my anticipated expenses like groceries, gas, and subscriptions. I actually haven’t needed to get a paycheck advance in a while because I’ve finally been keeping track of myself. I know it sounds like I’m a dumb kid but I actually feel proud of myself because of how my attitude towards money has been changing.
A bonus!: Dave (the bear) is really cute and the artwork used on the app is so adorable and the interface is so clean. It’s got the right aesthetics ✨
I'd give them -100 stars if I could
I've tried THREE separate times now to use Dave (for the cash advance because i'm really hurting for money) once almost a year ago, once a few months ago and once today but unfortunately all three times were complete nightmares and after this last time i'm done.
• They apparently don't know that you can have a card that's connected to a banking company but not have an actual account login and all with that banking company (for example I use ADP Wisely card my employer directly deposits my paychecks on there, that card is from the company Fifth Third Bank, N.A. and my whole account is strictly with ADP/Wisely I don't have an account with Fifth Third Bank) meaning despite me actually having that card and having an account with ADP/Wisely which is supported by Fifth Third Bank, N.A. I can't login to Fifth Third Bank, N.A since I don't have a direct account with them when they try to use their third party service to connect to it to see my history and that applies to countless other cards of mine I tried. Also fun fact you have to PAY for a monthly subscription for them to be able to access your bank accounts- bad enough they're checking us out like we're criminals and going through our personal info but then to charge us for it is on a whole other level ♀️
• They're really living in the dark ages when it comes to what banking companies they offer, 99% of the banks are physical locations only or some obscure bank with only one that's online (by online bank I mean companies like Venmo, ADP Wisely, Paypal, etc). Most of the cards i've had or have now are strictly online with only one being a physical location (no surprise that they don't accept my physical location bank) and almost everyone I know either only uses online banks or uses mostly online banks because they're much more convenient.
• Just like literally every other company out there that promises "QuIcK aNd EaSy MoNeY" they make it seem like getting this cash advance is some easy thing when in reality it's not and i've never seen so much fine print in my life. You don't just automatically get $250.00 oh no you have to give them access to your bank account, let them go through your private information, they have to approve you (the requirements of which seems to change often on a whim) and if by some miracle you do get approved for it you have to work your way up to that money meaning they'll only loan you small amounts at first if that then after months or years after you "prove yourself to them" then they'll give you that $250.00. Even that's not guaranteed though because it seems like a lot of people got approved for it but never actually got the money.
What really gets me mad about all of this though is that people are hurting and desperately need money right now more then ever so for them to prey on desperate people, not be honest from the get go about the requirements, get people's hopes up, make the process incredibly difficult, not updating to support online banking, etc is gross. Use something else in fact steer clear of companies that promise these "loans" period because they're just preying on desperate people ♀️
Very Helpful, Fair Service
I have been using Dave for about 3 years now, and I have never had any issues with their services nor the functionality of the app itself. I started off stuck at only being able to borrow $25 at a time for quite a while due to extremely hard times and a lower than “normal for me” income, but even then the extra $25 saved my rear end a number of times, and the standard fees for paying it back never contributed to digging myself in to a deeper hole or anything. I had to contact support a couple of times when I was unable to even repay $25 on time, and they were very understanding and worked with me.
I have since worked up to being eligible for $75, and the fees are still the same as they were at $25, and I have *neverhad any “mystery/surprise charges” from this app/company. I used to hate the fact that it makes you wait 2-3 days to borrow agaun after repaying a loan, but I have since grown to truly appreciate that. I used to panic thinking I’d need the money for something because things were so tight, but really it helped me see that I was fine and actually didn’t always need it. Which saved me the very few dollars from their service fees and “tip” that I otherwise would have just continually put myself in a circle of paying had another loan been immediately available (if that makes sense -I cannot seem to find the right words to clearly convey what I’m trying to say right now lol! I’m tired).
I did get accepted for their new banking/spending account feature, however I haven’t even activated the card yet or anything as I am not sure I will end up actually utilizing it. It appears to have all of the same features/“perks” as the two accounts that I have already had for a number of years/established good standing with, and I am not sure I have much use for a third. (And changing direct deposit over to a different account never goes smoothly).
Speaking of my main accounts - that is another great thing about Dave: they support/work with Chime and Varo. All of the other “big boys” in this fin-tech arena can’t work with Chime and/or Varo customers, but from day one, Dave always has. I made a lot of poor life choices (understatement of the century) over the years which have of course contributed to having a very poor credit score and left a few major banks upset with me, so yeah unfortunately Chime & Varo are what I have been able to use.
One might think that an app like Dave is not actually helping someone in my position, and instead taking advantage and worsening everything, but that is not the case at all. The app analyzes your spending, and if it detects that it would be work against you to give you a loan, or that you wouldn’t be able to repay it, then it won’t loan to you. It happened to me a number of times in the beginning, and while it was frustrating in the moment, especially when you just need some food and gas, I was grateful for it in the end.
Sorry for the novella haha! I try to include a lot in case any of the info is helpful to even just one person out there :). Thanks, Dave, for the great service! Throughout 3 years of using your services, I have literally had ZERO complaints and ZERO issues/problems.
3.5 stars for Dave and I’m picky
Fist let me start by saying I give the Dave app 3.5 stars . I’m picky and never review any apps when asked to but voluntarily did so today because I actually like the app . I don’t like the $1 fee per month and isn’t as good as the earning app in my opinion . But let’s start with the pro’s .
Pros: it’s a reliable interest free payday loan that send the money right to your phone.
You have an option to wait I believe two days for the money to be added to your account for free .
You can have the money added to your account same day, but for a fee that seems to be 10% of the amount you borrow .
I can honestly say every time I chose the instant transfer I have gotten it within minutes NOT the 8 hours they say it can take up too so no worries if you need the money right AWAY !
It shows you your current bank balance and will text you if your account goes below a set limit that you choose.
And also helps protect you from over drafting .
There are three options (four if you get the Dave cash card then you can take $100 max a week) which are as followed (25, 50, and the highest being $75 without their cash card.
Last but not least so far it has been 100% reliable and pretty consistent.
Cons: as I said you can receive the money instantly but there is a 10% fee (which I don’t like because the Earnin app always give it to you instantly with lightning speed once your card is linked and you can take up to 500 a week fee free and up to $100 a day .
Sometimes it won’t work that well if you don’t use the app with WiFi (I advise you do so that no glitch happens and you don’t get your payday loan) lol that would be MY luck but never happened knock on wood.
When you borrow from Dave you will get a text message days later that says we sent you the money you requested (don’t be alarmed that’s just a glitch they NEED to fix because it gives you anxiety especially if you think you over drafted somehow.
The account balance take a while to change to the accurate amount in your bank and sometimes both places that tell your bank balance are different numbers.
Good app but a good amount of SMALL bugs they can and need to fix.
Don’t like having to pay $1 a month but understand where the tipping is optional they need to make there money somehow but that is what the 10% fee is for because they know anyone who is on the app needs the money as soon as possible that’s the only reason someone would use that payday loan app so don’t get why they do that earnin doesnt .
Sometimes even after you pay it back the will ONLY let you take $10 or $20 dollars until the following week because your balance is too low WHICH makes NO SENSE AT ALL BECAUSE YOU PAID AND SHOWED GOOD FAITH AND IF YOU HAD MONEY IN YOUR ACCOUNT YOU WOULDNT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EVEN USINGGGGG THE APP SO THEY NEEEED TO FIX THAAAAT.
With that said there are more pros than cons but still stuff they should fix and make better for the user . In my opinion the earnin app is my number one choice but if I need more money after borrowing from earnin I will use Dave.
Dave is rated 2nd when I’m comparing earnin with Dave tbh for many reasons but the biggest being you can take out an EXACT dollar amount instead of taking 15 more than you need lol . And if you use earning and don’t have money for your prescription they will pay it for you and have you pay them back when and as you can (the earnin app)
That’s my review, hope I gave all the information you were looking for LOL .
Starts off great…then awful!
So, I got this app back in April after my mother was hit by an uninsured drunk driver and we needed some help to make ends meet. First couple of advances in April were great… hundred bucks Bam! Got us right through! I tried a few others but I liked Dave the best so I opted to do the direct deposit for $1200 bucks…half of my paycheck. Well, June 2 I tried to transfer $175 to my Dave spend account so I could use my debit card… Dave denied that transaction but didn’t give a reason in their reply . I opted for a different venue then hours later Dave let the transaction they initially would not allow go through for $175 which overdrew my checking account. My bank sent the $175 transaction back and then my Dave account was negative until I could pay it June 8. I I called after the transaction occurred to try and fix it and was told a bunch of nonsense… that it cancelled out but was sent right bank blah blah blah… no it didn’t ! I paid it 6 days later when I had it. Well, come June 22 it was time for me to be able to make my first $200 advance. This would be two months back to back of a $1200 deposits to meet the requirement for advance approval . Dave offered me five dollars then $10 for the advance after waiting two months for the direct deposit. I’ve called I’ve been on support which told me to go back to the live chat which told me that I could file with support and it’s just a bunch of crap. I’ve sent Dave my bank statement showing them $175 transaction that put me in an unhealthy account status with them they still try to tell me the transaction was canceled out the initial transaction was June 2 my bank sent it back on the fourth and I got everything in the positive on the eighth. This is Dave’s mistake and it clearly states on the last page of their statement that if they make a mistake they’ll go above and beyond to fix it no they don’t the client goes above and beyond to try to fix it and Dave does squat! All I wanted them to do was put my account back in good standing I didn’t even care about the overdraft fees here or there whatever fine I’ll pay that crap just put me back in good standing and give me an advance that is true to the park you advertise. Nooooo…. After I canceled my account and looked back at it it said I qualified for Vance I even got an email here’s your $200 Vance come get it yay nope another five dollars then $10 of which I had to take because we absolutely have no food in the refrigerator now! And sadly I sti have better than so many! Thanks Dave thanks for nothing! Oh and by the way after you do your direct deposit with Dave don’t think you’ll be able to go to another venue and get an advance because your direct deposit was split and it now appears as though you only make half of what you make because they don’t look at all of the bank accounts. So, make a note. If you do decide to choose one of these cash advance apps so that you can utilize their cash advance perk. If you go with Dave, make sure your direct deposit is for the full amount. If your paycheck splitsIn most places you can only prove you make that much the amount stated in ONE account. I don’t make that much! So, I hope this all over the place squirrel rendition of my experience helps you make your decisions and Dave I hope you use this example to fix some of your policies and truly help your customers! It was so awesome at first I thought finally something to help supplement having a career in education… Nope! After reading through other reviews…it’s the same Issues over and over and over again… The last one I read and screenshot was over two years ago and Dave replied back and said something like: oh we’re trying to make improvements to our app blah blah blah blah blah
no they’re not it’s the same mess it was two years ago! Man, I wish I had seen these reviews before I did the direct deposit.
Best Money App Around
Even if you have a part-time job just make sure that you make at least 1000 a month and Dave has your back! I could be wrong about the amount however at least have one direct apposite hit your bank account once a month for David to see and then he will have your back up until payday. Even if you have $100,000 in the bank so you don’t want to spend it you could use Dave for extra spending cash so you don’t have to dig into your savings that you’re building up! However the reason why I gave this only four stars is that I think the app could do better in regards to the amount of money they lend. It’s kind of misleading advertisement when they say “Dave has your back was paying bills”. They should really be advertising that Dave could give you some spending cash between paychecks other apps like earning more active hours or more for bill paying between checks! Like seriously, what do you expect to pay with $75? I mean of course you could probably pay a cheap cell phone bill but us with mortgages and other high paying bills per month or even let’s say you have child support Dave $75 one and put a dent into that it still be pain you’ll be like asking a friend for $75 to put towards your $1200 mortgage. Not saying that it is a bad app it’s just kind of misleading when they illustrate all the time that “Dave will spot you like he’s loaded”. All he has is a MAX of $75 and a MIN of $25. Heck there are web based check advances that give out more than both Dave and Earning put together. I remember there was one that gave up to $2000, well of course you had to have a legitimate proof that you had a job that paid at least 3500 a month or more.
In a not shell it is a pretty good app if you ever got a flat tire or ran into a small unexpected expense like gas money or money for a toll that’s about it. I guarantee this minimal selection has deleted a lot of users from downloading this app! Since I like this app and I have software certifications and also Bicsi telecommunication knowledge I will list suggestions to the programmers below that will increase usability and app users 10-fold within 2 months guaranteed:
- Increase the payouts and keep the original pay outs as well for those with low income or who are receiving unemployment assistance. For example keep the original $25, $50, and $75 platform like you currently have but also create and advanced level of income users! In doing this you will increase usability by targeting a different market and income users which will in turn along with your current users add to the community of people using the app.
-have three different levels minimal which is the current platform you already have the 2 other platforms called “median” or platform 2 and “Advanced” for the 3rd platform. See below the suggested options:
Min Platform= $25 - $50- $75
Median Platform= $100-$250-$500
Advanced Platform= $1000- $[protected]
-Keep the minimum platform the same way and do not add any type of fees but the tip but for the other two require a mandatory $20.00 charge with tip option. For example Someone with it advanced platform income well ask Dave for an advanced and choose 1500 on payday Dabel extract $1520 plus whatever tip He or she gave. Same for median platforms - If borrowing $500.00 they will be paying $520.00 plus tip if they decide to do so.
- For both median and advanced platforms do not add the eight hour direct deposit ACH for $4.99 option unless that user also adds a tip to their $20.00 mandated borrow charge. Either way you slice it it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than any payday loan on the market And any interest on any type of loan given. I am sure people will not care and give the tip instead of waiting 3 to 5 business days on both those platforms.
-for both the new platforms to ensure nobody from the minimal platform or a middle platform say skip and borrow from the advanced have someone from your team contact users banks to and sure they are getting the direct deposit each month for matching with that platform. They will need to be a three month recurring direct deposit prove to in sure you will get the money on the dates given. It will basically be like they do for payday loans or any other type of loans just a little bit less in-depth into the point and this will keep people that are only making say 3000 a month borrow 1500 at a time and only have 300 directed posited in there checking on payday.

Check cashing on Dave
I got on my Dave account I went to accounts and with cash going to cash a check deposited it put me on Ingo cash app and told me to take picture front and back they said it got approved and told me the right void on the front and take a picture and after I took the picture it told me that I had a problem that I didn't write void correctly and then it wouldn't even let me but I'm having a problem with it
Claimed loss: $150
Desired outcome: Something needs to be done credit my $150 to my Dave account
Account was hacked
My account was hacked and the thieves took over $1200. When I reached the air customer support they told me there is only so much they can do and there were limitations. I guess protecting customer accounts is not something they can do. Then the rep told me to “have a good day!” No resolution, no telling me the next steps. You’re out $1200, oh well! I’d like my money back
Desired outcome: Refund of money stolen from my checking account
Horrible customer service
This company has the absolute worst customer service I have ever dealt with, hands down! There is no way to contact them other than sending an email which the generally take an entire day to get back to you. They only listen to half of what you’re saying and half the time they don’t do it until you send ANOTHER email to verify whether you want what you just asked for and half the time they just do a half baked job without asking you to clarify. Don’t use this app if you think there may ever be an issue where you have to deal with customer service. I once asked for an extension on my payback date the very day that I got an advance and they didn’t answer me until the night before my original payback date at 11 pm and that email stated that they needed me to send another email saying the exact same thing the first email i sent said, and then when I didn’t send the email by 6 am eastern time, they went ahead and pulled the money out of my account and when I asked for them to rectify the situation, they just said no. I then asked for them to cancel my dave checking account, and without asking to verify, they just deleted my ENTIRE dave account. I have never been less more frustrated by a company. Use EARNIN, I REPEAT, USE EARNIN. this company has no business doing what they are doing until they set up a competent customer service team. How hard is it to hire a phone based customer service team that works from home. I work for a phone based customer service company, I work from Home and we have 5 stars on the ComplaintsBoard.com. IT IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT. once they fix all of the difficulties that they have caused me this past month. I will never use this company’s services again. Horrible. I would give 0 stars if they allowed me. And I hope they read this.

Terrible Experience
I download this app months ago with high hopes because like many others,I live paycheck to paycheck.
I never create an account because I’ve been in the process of moving and trying to set up a new bank account. My last debit card had a security breach, it’s been a long process sorting that out and getting a new one. Anyway, I download the app but don’t create an account.
Next thing I know I’m looking through my bank statement and seeing Dave has been charging me every month. I have no clue how, maybe they are charging through my apple id. But bottom line I had never created an account, or given them any of my bank information.
I redownload the app to try and get in contact with customer service and surely enough I enter my only two email’s I’ve ever had with the only password I’ve ever used, I’ve had the same phone number for 10+ years, etc. And they tell me that all my account info is incorrect or nonexistent. So I create an account for the first time and surely enough, it shows me all of these charges for the past 3-4 months.
I contact customer service asking for a refund and it’s like emailing a brick wall. First I ask specifically for a refund and to not charge my account any further. They ignore my statement about a refund, and after several emails back asking them to acknowledge me asking for a refund, they finally conclude to me being delusional and say “They can’t help the fact that I don’t remember making an account with them.”
Customer service was the worst customer service team I’ve ever had to reach out to. They deny me any time of phone contact service and won’t let me talk to any senior customer service representative. Highly don’t recommend this app.
I also think most of the reviews are a bit fishy. I see people rating 5 stars but their comments are only negative, seems a bit odd to me.

Use to like it
I hate this app. If you have an issue you have to wait forever to get up with someone through email only. I had borrowed 75.00 on September 3rd and it was to be paid off on September 13th . Between that time frame I had lost my debit card and had to issue another card. I emailed them and informed them that my debit card listed isn’t valid anymore but my checking account is still the same and that they can debit that and to please email me back in regards to this so I will know that there isn’t an issue. Never heard anything from them. When September 13th came I made sure I had enough money in account to cover the cost of what I owe to them. On September 16th I got a text saying that I was able to get an 75.00 advance and that my other payment had posted. So I went on and got another advance of 75.00 on the 16th paid the 4.99 express fee and still haven’t gotten my funds . I looked in my bank account and they still haven’t taken out the amount that was due for September 13th but my funds are still sitting there. So now I owe for the September 13th payment cause they still haven’t taken out the funds and I can’t manually go in and pay it with my new card cause it states it’s paid and now they are saying I owe a payment for the new advance on Sept 26th and I haven’t even gotten the money in my account for that advance. I have sent multiple emails to this company over the past two months cause I also had an issue with my direct deposit and no one ever gets in touch with you. If you need money go to Earnin App. That app is wayyyyy better. There customer service is top notch. No waiting days if lucky to get up with someone. You can chat with a person as soon as you need to. Paying off and closing account. Never again. I thinks it’s nice to have an app to help people in need but if it only half functions correctly it’s not worth having.

Advance Amount & Repayment (Dave Services)
So I use this app very, very rarely now because the repayments are always only a week away. Pointless if you ask me especially for those of us that get payed biweekly. I’m certain not everyone can do that if you don’t get payed weekly or if you have extra cash but what would we need Dave for if we had enough extra cash, right? So, that part is not plausible to me. I really don’t need an advance all the time but sometimes extra cash is nice to have anyways. However, I’d rather use something like Cash App nowadays.
Cash App gives you up to a month to pay back & it gives a way better amount to borrow! And it goes up every time you repay on time or early. I’ve had Dave for over a year now & nothing has changed. On the contrary, I believe I used to be able to pay back biweekly but that hasn’t been a thing for me in a long time. Same thing with my “advance amount.” All because Dave’s system is just bad at reading statements. Which leads me to my next point.
This app is constantly talking about recognizing “consistent deposits” but it’s absolutely TERRIBLE at reading the statement to determine those consistent deposits. Thus, affecting your deposit amount. I can’t remember if that determines payback date as well because like I said earlier, that’s terrible to. Statements appear to be updated after 24 hours so you’re always kind of a day behind on an online Dave statement. I probably sound like I’m promoting & I hate to do that but once again, Cash Apps statements are updated right away. Unlike Dave.
Overall & either way, I believe Dave to be extremely redundant & unreasonable. What’s the point of doing this if it’s just gonna feel like another bill that you wonder if you’ll be able to pay on time? I’d rather call whoever & ask for a later payment date than worry about Dave throwing me into a – on my bank account. There are simply just better apps for this.

Absolute garbage of a service
I would give this no stars if I could. I figured I would give Dave a try and I had the app downloaded for literally ONE day. As soon as I entered my personal information I was prompted to add a bank. This includes much more sensitive data as you can understand. AS SOON AS I ENTERED THIS SENSITIVE DATA, the app signed me out. After it signed me out I tried to sign back in and it gave me an error code and asked me if I was confused. Yeah Dave I am confused. I’m confused why after getting my information you signed me out and closed my account. How do I know this? Because the customer service agent that took days to respond after I created a ticket through your apparent email only customer service told me that I had apparently breached some terms of service and that my account was deleted. Still confused and a little shocked I emailed back asking what terms of service I had breached and what was going on (it’s a little troublesome when you just got all of my banking information that this would happen) and the atrocious customer service agent named Leisha tells me she cannot provide further information on this matter (this is also very sketchy). So to my knowledge I haven’t violated any terms of service and there was no reason to close my account other than the app just wanted my information and once it was received just gave me the boot. I have now been emailing Leisha several times a day in the dauntless hope that I receive some explanation or at the very least to make sure my data is safe and all I am met with is “we cannot provide further information”. Total and complete garbage of a company. The Dave app is predominantly serviced by the worst customer service I have ever had the unfortunate privilege of dealing with. And the app is also a total scam, worthless in my opinion, not worth the hassle, and a complete and total rip off only chasing your financial information.

Dave review
Dave at a glance sounds and looks like a great idea! However, it is the exact opposite. You have to jump 100 fences to get in contact with an actual LIVING person if you need help. If/when you do get ahold of someone they are about as useful as having Helen Keller for a tour guide. They are more than likely reading scripted responses and are puppets for Dave. They don’t actually know what’s going on with anything. For instance, I just called to get help because my coworker, who I referred to the app, received his direct deposit. We have the same job. We use the same bank. Same boss. Same everything! So why did he get paid and I didn’t? So customer service who was so certain that my employer hadn’t released the funds yet was left speechless when I told her that. She was unable to explain anything other than I’ll get my money when I get it and there was no one else who could further assist me. So I try texting with these computer generated robots they deem “useful”. Robot sends me to someone else who will be emailing me. At the end of the day it seems like when there is an issue this company wants to be the last to accept responsibility. They’d rather pass you around from person to person than to be caught saying they don’t have a clue what is going on. Also they provide advances! Seems great… until you realize there is an additional fee tacked on. They will give you some explanation saying it’s for this and that. Ok great then why do you so sneakily slip in a tip option that isn’t even an option and more so a straight up robbery. You claim it’s to feed staving children. Yet only a portion of that tip is being use for meals. So where does the rest of it go and why don’t you start the tip at zero? First time I used the advance I had to pay a fee plus I tipped an additional 20% without even knowing because they jack up the tip amount and make you manually adjust it back to zero. Criminal. Overall not satisfied.

Pros & Cons
Pros - I instantly qualified for an advance after the very simple sign up process. If you’re in desperate need of money to get you through until payday this is a very viable and convenient option.
Some people may find value in the rewards program which helps waive the monthly fee. Upon enrolling you will receive rewards when using your linked debit card. (I personally don’t find any value in this)
Cons -
1.) Although the monthly fee is only $1, I don’t want to pay this fee in addition to a tip and a $4.99 fee for the instant transfer of the advance to my checking account.
2.) If you need the advance before the 3 day transfer period there is an option to pay $4.99 to get the deposit same day into your checking account. When someone is in need of an advance it’s more likely the customer will pay $4.99 to get the deposit with in 8 hrs rather than wait 3 business days. It costs the company $0 to send money instantly to a customers checking account so even though they advertise 0% interest this is a back-door way of charging “interest”.
3.) When taking out an advance they ask that you pay an optional tip. If you choose not to pay a tip make sure you finish the process slowly and read every detail throughout the process. I chose not to pay a tip on my most recent advance. Somehow I ended up agreeing to pay $11.00 for tip! I didn’t tip this time because I knew I was already paying $4.99 for instant transfer and needed the money for only a few days from payday.
4.) The app tracks your monthly expenses to predict how much money you’ll have left in your bank account until payday. The prediction in, my experience, is wwwaaayyy off. It always shows I’ll be negative $300 which is not ever close to being correct.
There are other apps out there that don’t nickel and dime service charges or trick customers into paying tips and that actually follow through with what they advertise. I will be deleting this app and closing my account.

Great at first
The only reason I gave this review two stars is because Dave was very helpful in the beginning when I first installed the app. BUT things have gotten worse as of lately.
Dave was great at first. I was able to get up to the $75 advance and they protected me from overdraft fees. However, after I got a new job everything went down hill. Dave couldn’t seem to identify that I got a new job. It took SEVERAL messages to customer service for Dave to finally realize that I have a new job, therefore a new paycheck. Everything seemed to be updated because i was now able to advance again. However, after I paid the advance back and was ready to make another one, Dave says that they couldn’t identify a paycheck. Dave said my most recent paycheck was missing. My paycheck clearly was deposited in my account and Dave even took the money that I borrowed the last time! So Dave should be completely aware that I have a paycheck and it has been deposited. So once again, I had to write in a ticket to customer service. I probably won’t hear from them until next week, as they typically take forever to reply! Sometimes they don’t even reply, I’ve had that happen once too and had to submit another ticket! And when they finally respond to your issue, the “solution” that they give doesn’t help at all and results in an even longer process.
And to add to this, Dave has this new thing where you have to have a certain amount in your account if you would like to advance $75. I used to always be able to advance $75 no matter how much money I had in my account. That’s one of the reasons I loved using Dave. I was always able to pay the $75 back on time with no problem. Now, I have to have a certain amount in my account and it has really been a pain.
Dave seems to have a lot of bank connection issues as well. It does not update properly like it should.
I’m about this close to deleting the app completely because it is starting to cause me more trouble than benefit.

Horrible! get Earnin!
I worked 2 jobs and still didn’t make enough for my expenses. I made just enough, but if anything went wrong I’d find myself in a huge hole. That’s exactly what happened... car battery died and need a replacement as well as a new tire... After having being with Dave for 3 weeks and needed it help for the 2nd time after having just paid a bill and going to get paid the same weekend Dave couldn’t come thru... something about needing to talk with my bank (Bank of America) which was in good standings, Dave could not come thru... soooo I didn’t blame Dave I blamed my bank...
Here’s the thing.
After that, I never used Dave again and deleted the app! 2 to 3 months later I was still being charged a $1 for an app I wasn’t using let alone had... that’s $3 lost. I called to have the services stopped, removed and refunded.
They calling so hard to do I had to find the number online! Despite calling and finally getting thru the representative told me I’ll have to cancel service via the App...
I’m like okay how hard can that be... it’s not until I read thru the “HELP” in the app the fact that at the time Dave does not inform you that you’ll be charged even though you delete the app and don’t use it... I had to find out after...
I finally find and read up on how to cancel services, it required me to download the app and re submit the application process... I got stuck at the part where they ask to resubmit my phone number... and they’ll send a text... I did so repeatedly again and again still not text...being busy I blamed my service provider that I simply didn’t have service... so I put it off till I was able to redo it at another location...
guys long story short 9 more months went buy losing $12 of my money before I could finally cancel services! And how was I able to do that? The cust. Representative did it for me after they’ve seen my frustration over the phone somethings they could’ve done over the phone 12 months ago!

Tricky
While we enjoy using Dave, sometimes have a small feedback. At difficult time it’s not such a great experience, for him and other kids. I was blown away by the pungent cigarette smoke in that area. We know this Publix location on Fowler blvd, as I drew up there going to USF. I don’t recall if I said I’m pregnant, your said you’re pregnant, but if so, use a gentle flod, tuma, or have it your way. The toilet was stuck from people not fluffing their excremental away and that had nothing to with us, rather the staff, and ultimately the Manager, he’s the one who answer to these type of situation for his location. We love going there and it’s a fantastic way to let your kids pick out the Veggies they want, help you prep your foods and feel like that they’ve made such an improvement while being around kids Julie , I believe w customer service rep” finally went back to the deli/bakery and ask the guy who had come out earlier, was rude and ok front of my 4 year old said, “Give him whatever he wants and the goddam suns for free.” The bottom line is that he doesn’t care about ANY bakery manager and needs to go. This so-called Phantom Store Manager who is acting as YOUR store Manager at this Hillcrest location in Spartanburg. We searched for the store manager and just like the other 8 times we’ve tried to find him, he’s never there, no one knows where he went, nor when he will return. REAL professional, right? This is a disgrace for the entire Publix Family and I will go out of my way to shop there, as well as telling that this story.
I expect some type of regulation, firing and overhaul of these employees who clearly don’t want to be there in the first place. If I want to gather a round of people showing off all their tools, I’d go to the salon.
I expect Publix Corporate to get there as fast as possible because it’s just one train wreck after the other. They’re effectively and quite easily ruining your wonderful brand.

Headaches
Update:
Now this app is totally and completely useless.
My husband tried to get an advance on Sunday and it would only let him pay back on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, not Friday when he actually gets paid.
So I tried, and even though I have borrowed from the app twice and paid it back, it now demands I get paid within 7 days of borrowing. I thought the point was to borrow when you NEED it! I get paid monthly. They never had a problem with this before! I've borrowed the first week of the month before and paid it back the first week of the NEXT month when i got paid. Now it won't let me. We are finally deleting this app, as it is pathetically useless to all but a very, very tiny segment of the population.
old review:
Everything I do in this app gives errors and requires multiple tries to complete.
Every. Single. Thing.
Think I'm exaggerating? Nope. Sadly, this app gives an error every time I do anything at all and I have to try over and over, sometimes over several days time.
This time I got an HTTP error when making a payment and I almost tried to make it again but I got a text thanking me for my payment.
This app has promise but I don't understand why it has been saying I have a $36 overdraft for several days when the overdraft fee was refunded and my account returned positive days ago. It doesn't show me any information when I try to see my expenses. How long does it take to update?
Just took away one star because when I needed to borrow a small amount the app said there was an error connecting to their vendor. It's getting more useless all the time.
FINALLY got the app to work last month for a $75 advance, but after paying it back a few days ago it wouldn't let me borrow money I NEED to prevent an overdraft I KNOW is about to happen because it says it needs 4 business days for my payment to fully clear. But in the app, it shows my payment made, and my bank shows the money taken out. In fact, paying this app back is what is going to CAUSE the overdraft. So... never again.

DO NOT GET THIS APP!
I was able to request one advance over two weeks ago, when I first got the app. I paid that one off on my next check. Now I’ve been trying to request another one for the past several days. I contacted support and they refreshed the app or something; so I was able to request another advance, but Dave (app) is saying that I need to pay back from the first advance (it was already paid back and cleared before I requested it.) I’ve been trying to get support to fix this, but have had no luck. After a few times trying to request another advance, apparently one of the requests went through ($75), and the app is showing it came out and I requested Expedited. Now it’s been over 24hrs and I still haven’t received anything on my end at all. And I’ve been trying to get in contact with support to help me fix the problem, but the only thing that’s been done is them
Just confirming that the Advance went through. I’m writing this for the developer because I can’t reach support. The advance did not go through, if it did why haven’t I received it within 24hrs after requesting Expedited? And why is the app showing the advance went through when it did not? I like the concept and everything about the app, but I need to know how to fix this glitch or whatever it is, because it’s getting kind of annoying, and also I’m not going to pay for something that I haven’t received. I’ve been monitoring my account like a hawk, and I’m telling you nothing has came through, but your app is showing that it has. Now my bank account is in the negative and I can’t do anything about it until my paycheck comes in. But conveniently enough they still get my money because of an auto draft. I had someone email and say they took care of the advance and won’t have any issues. Well then why is it that when I go to the app it’s still showing the advance that never went through! Don’t waste your time with this; I thought this might help in tight situations but nope, just scamming just like everything else. I’ve already notified my bank for them not to allow this draft to go through because it’s fraud.

Miserable App
It’s been my absolute displeasure having invested no much time and switching my banking to using Dave, am currently changing to a local bank.
I began using this app years ago for the small loans, worked well and eventually switched to Dave as my bank when my previous bank hit me with overdraft fees. I’d hoped that over time, the app would grow so I could find local ATM’s that I could use and could use (this hasn’t changed at all in the 3 years I’ve used the app.
When attempting to make a cash deposit, the app makes it seem as though you can deposit for free at any of the vendors listed, however they fail to mention that there is both a fee and a cap to how much you can deposit at once. I’ve yet to find a place that does this for free, typically it’s $5-6 and capped at $200- so if you’re depositing $1,000 or more it’s an absolute nightmare. Have been denied at stores too.
Have never been able to deposit a check through the app, despite using their automatic check scan. In fact I just spent 2 hours attempting to cash a check as the app would randomly reopen (I’d have to start again) and flipped the camera 90 degrees to the right, making it near impossible if I didn’t get lucky and work fast. And then it was still denied, so now I have to cash it and deposit at a vendor- I’m gonna be losing a chunk of it just because of this.
I used to be able to get the cash advances, but for the past few months it asks me to reconnect with my previous bank account that has been closed. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get advances even when I desperately needed them!
There have been times with spotty reception that the app straight up won’t work and I’ve been stranded without access to my account after depositing funds digitally and have had to pray that a transaction will go through.
Once you go online and check their ratings through the ComplaintsBoard.com, you understand that this is not a trustworthy company and the app is also very poorly made and maintained. Don’t make the mistake I have- it would be better to donate plasma and save yourself the countless migraines I have! Dave is bad. Very bad.

If you’re not gonna tip, don’t bother downloading
I was borrowing money from this app consistently for a couple of weeks, with a manually entered paycheck because I do not get direct deposit. Therefore, it would only let me boredom $20 at a time. I always payed back my advances on time or sometimes even earlier than the pay back date. One day I payed my advancement back early so that I could borrow another $20 and to push back my next pay-back date. Next thing you know, the app takes the money out of my bank account then says “payment pending please wait until payback date to get another advancement” so I waited. While I waited I contacted customer service but didn’t receive any help. The payback day comes and I still get the same message that the payment is pending so I contacted customer service again, this time receiving a response that was literally no help at all. It just told me how to manually enter a paycheck. I’m guessing it was an automated response. There is no actual human to contact or help you when something goes wrong. Anyways I tried contacting them one more time because this time I go back to the app and the entire thing won’t work. It wouldn’t refresh, it said my membership hadn’t been paid (even though the $1 was already taken out of my account) and when I tried to go back to the advancement page, it told me I needed to enter a paycheck, (even though I already had a manually entered paycheck in my account) I tried to re add my paycheck, and it wouldn’t go through. Just kept going back to the screen that told me to add a paycheck. So now this app is completely useless. I cannot use any aspect of the app, my payments are paid for yet still say pending, can’t borrow money, can’t manage my balance nothing. This problem was random and very inconvenient, and I’m assuming it’s because I never added a tip, but oh well. I was never obligated to tip especially when I already paid an extra 2.99 on a $20 advancement to get the money instantly every time I borrowed. (Rip off) Don’t waste your time. Dave does not actually care about your overdraft fees, just wants to make money and will kick you off the app if you don’t tip him.

Infuriated!
As the good saying goes “don’t fix something that isn’t broke.” Y’all obviously don’t follow that rule. I’ve been getting advances off the Dave app since July 2022. The always received their payment on time, and the next day I always get another advance. It’s not secret that’s how these companies work. You need fast cash, you get cash cash but now your stuck in a cycle that’s repeated every week. That’s all fine. I’m grateful companies exist such as these. However, like many others who utilize this app, we can’t afford to not get another advance after we repay the previous one. There’s people who count on this advance to survive! I have referred people to this app and always had good things to say. Im disgusted about what’s happened today surrounding this app. My advance was paid back yesterday. I logged on this morning to get advance again, and find out it’s all different. It’s called a completely different name. I spent hours on this app figuring out the changes, because every time I’d click “get extracash,” or I also tried going into my account and clicked “get a (said amount advance)” and every time it would say either “error couldn’t verify your information,” or I would get “unfortunately Dave couldn’t create an extracash account for you.” I called customer service and was told to do what I had already done. My 7 year old has better communication and customer service skills than the person I spoke with today. After that didn’t work I sent them a message in the chat, and I still have yet to receive a response. The app now shows I need open a Dave’s spending account & an extracash account?!? None of this makes sense! I’ve been a customer for almost a year and you just now can’t verify my identity?!? Also, I already had a Dave spending account open where did it go?!? This is needs resolved quickly. I’ve seen the responses left on other reviews to message them for quick response, and etc. That absolutely has not been true nor has a single person sent me in the right direction to correct this problem. This needs to be handled as an urgent matter. People have bills and mouths to feed. It’s not okay.

Believe those who say Dave is sketchy…
Back in February (2022) I requested to close my account entirely with Dave because it continued to randomly deduct $1 from my account every month. No, I was not subscribed to their membership and no I did not owe on any loan. Dave customer support couldn’t figure out so, I decided to have him close my account all together. Upon my request, the representative let me know that I would not be able to sign up for a new account for 60 days.
Quite some time later, I want to shortly after it had been 60 days… I signed up with no issues (at first) with a new account. Why? Because I decided I wanted to try Dave as an actual bank account this time around after a conversation I had with a co-worker about it.
In the new account, I was not able to sign up for a Dave bank account or pull any kind of “extra cash” because it “could not verify my identity” per an error I kept receiving. From the time I opened the account in early May until 6/22/22- I was given no helpful answer by customer service. They also stated that there was no way for a manager or higher up to contact me about what was going on. In this time they had me take a selfie with my drivers license (front and back) to verify me. It does not take long to do such a thing but, instead of verifying (which they should have been doing) they got back to me in 6/22/22 stating the obvious information I’d already given them about the old account I had. They told me that because I’ve already had a Dave account and closed it… that I could not have a new one at this time… no further explanation as to why or how?
They closed my new account (for no reason) and gave no foundation for not letting me have a new Dave account. When I fought back stating that I was told that I’d have to wait 60 days upon the original closure to open a new account… even offering the proof of email exchange stating it… they basically said too bad so sad no new account for you at this time.
WHY?! I’m owed an explanation. There was nothing wrong with the old account other then them draining me of $1/month for no reason.
Stay away from Dave. False advertising and statements are all you’ll get out of it.

Not so cute and fuzzy
TLDR: Beware folks... you're letting some startup have full access to your private banking information and giving them the ability to take money from your account at will (it's unlikely they'll actually advance you money in the event of an overdraft) and they will aggressively pursue you if you leave a negative review! I had left a previous review (which mysteriously disappeared) so I'll update my review and rating... I had signed up for this "service" which allegedly will watch my account and send an advance if I'm in danger of over-drafting. That isn't exactly what happens though. The "service" wasn't able to connect to my bank, but it was able to connect to my account with Simple (which I really don't even use). The "service" saw the Simple account and kept warning me that an overdraft was eminent despite no activity on the account. Every time the "service" offered an advance, it would fail without any notice. An update to the app promised that I'd get a notification from Dave when my bank was available for integration. Sadly, there is no way to get such a notification. I inquired with their "Support" team as to why that didn't work and if I was going to be charged the monthly fee when my bank wasn't supported and the "service" wasn't doing anything. I was informed there would be no charge... but then there was. Sure, it's only a dollar. But what was done to even warrant that dollar that I was told wouldn't be removed from my Simple account? Nothing. The "service" doesn’t work at all and it doesn't take much effort to go through reviews and see other people having similar issues. The "Support" team make a somewhat condescending effort to Venmo me the dollar since "it seems really important to you" after giving me some long winded diatribe about how they offered a legitimate "service" to me by telling me I might overdraft. It's an account... I don't use... with no activity... because you don't integrate with a major bank... This is not an app that should've been allowed in the App Store. The product simply isn't there, no viable "service" is offered, and you're giving full control of your bank account to some startup. Bad idea!

They let my money get stolen and did nothing
There is no security measures to protect your money even after that large data breach. I was notified my email had been changed and immediately clicked on contact support as it wasn’t me that took me to the help section but no real person to talk to of course I notified them so they could help secure my account and then went and corrected my email and password. About ten minutes later it was changed again and they changed the phone number and were starting to have a check sent out of my account. By this time it was after customer service hours so I changed the email to one of my other emails afraid my email was hacked and I changed my phone number and password and froze my card and virtual card. Well that didn’t help I had to change my email because they kept getting in to my account some how over a dozen times then I just had to stay in the app until customer service was open so they couldn’t get in or so I thought. Finally customer service is open I call and they tell me they have to escalate to the appropriate dept they will contact me via email with in 48 hours mean while as I am on the phone with customer service these hacker were able to take $1988 in one swoop and customer service didn’t do anything to help me. I asked them to please secure my account by like freezing the entire account until I talked to them or going in on their end and logging out these hackers but they said sorry we can’t do that that’s a different dept. So I was helpless to protect my money and they continued to log into my account and try to remove my money somehow no matter what I changed me password, email phone they still were getting in almost like they work their and had easy access while Dave made no attempt to help me prevent it. I pulled as much money as I could but up to $2500 last I checked they have taken. I have to sleep and take care of my family I can’t keep staring at my phone trying to block these hackers nor should I. Absolutely disgusted with Dave and if I didn’t have my direct deposit coming on the 1st I would have already closed my acccount. I guess it won’t matter the hacker low life’s will probably steal that money too before Dave actually helps me.

I have been trying to get into my account but it is saying I have no emails or passwords saved and I have 2 phone numbers. I keep getting redirected to the mail part to change my Information and I get the same error. I think that my account was hacked or closed.
Jeremy really rude does not know how to treat his customers he needs to be retrained on customer service employees just as rude as he is. I need someone to call me back. Kim rude as well Raquel rude as well. Then Jeremy gets on the phone saying he is someone else. Hung up on me twice. Jeremy says there is no other supervisor but him.
