David Weekley Homes home builder

I bought a David Weekley home under construction in 2008. Since 1985 I have bought previously two new home from other builders in Austin TX, but this one by far was the worst experience anyone could have. Their warranty service is really really bad. In the past 2 years, my house has been flooded due to bad roofing. They have been in my house for repair over 25 times and still not fixed. I had AC issues in the middle of summer for months. I have crack on foundation. I had gas leak in my kitchen. I paid for installing a humidifier that they never installed until three month after the purchase and I told them and they blamed the AC contractor. They are seriously the worst of the worst builder. I hope no one fall in their trap the way I fell. If anyone buying a Dawid Weekely home, Good Luck!

We live in. David Weekly Home bought in Nov 2000. The only problem- major problem which we at the time did not realize and press David Weekly to solve was the air conditioning. Bad design. We have lived with it ever since. Apart from that, we are fully satisfied with our home and have been appreciative of the builder when they came out to fix a bath room leak (beyond the warranty period) and ended up with redoing the whole bathroom as well as the bedroom and politely refused to accept payment! We said, that is a small compensation for the bad a/c. But all said and done we are good with David Weekly and in fact, we are going to sign up again this fall if the location suits us

I'm only responding to the subflooring issue. I am impressed that they came out to look at a home that is 12 years old. What other builder would visit you after 12 years? What we see in SC is that you have your 1 year re-walk and those issues are addressed and taken care of for you. The David Weekley builders here in SC really take care of their homeowners. No one is perfect but they do their best to make sure that the homeowner is pleased.

I have movement popping and sagging on the sub flooring upstairs. I sent an email to David Weekly who built the home 12yrs ago. They came by Friday and said they only were required to nail the sub flooring. How can that be to only use nails? They knew the floor would start squeaking and popping in 1 month to 3 months and not stay down? I now will have to have a complete new sub flooring, thick padding and carpet added to the entire upstairs due to their shoddy workmanship. It there anything on the building codes that keeps builders from doing such a thing?
Not only have we flooring problems, but the AC duct wasn't put in properly and was leaking into the attic. We had to have total new duct work added and a jump vent put in at the top of the stairs. The upstairs was staying so hot in the summer and not cooling. This was also a health risk with the AC pouring into the attic. Talk about Carbon monoxide poisoning! This summer we will have to replace both outside AC units and get one much larger one for the upstairs.

I have had to caulk around the tile in our bathroom at the baseboards. They never bothered to finish the tile work and it was totally over looked!

Then the driveway is pulling away from the foundation and is dropping down. This means the whole driveway will have to be dug out and redone properly. I would never by a David Weekly home again or have anyone else I know build one. Cheap incompetent work! Talk about Ray Ellison subdivisions!

We could have built a brand new home much nicer than this one for what we have had to put into this one! It is a total money pit!

David Weekley Homes deadly house

We purchased our house, which was built in 2001, in 2005. Since we moved in we have experienced many major and minor problems, some deadly. In order of severity, they are:

1. The 2-story concrete archway over the front porch collapsed without warning. Anyone standing at our front door would have been killed.

2. We have had two gas leaks from the kitchen, both extremely dangerous and due to corroded pipes.

3. The water pressure was 2X the limit, forcing us to install a pressure relief valcve and overflow tank.

4. Windows have cracked spontaneously.

5. Doors are sticking.

The house was built less than 10 years ago and is still under warranty. We'll see what the builder says, but frankly there can be no excuse whatsoever for the inherent instability and poor quality of this house.

David Weekley Homes poor service

Where do I start? We contracted for a David Weekly home in Keller, Texas in August of 2006. We moved into the home in January 2007. The house was finished on time. Our first indication of shoddy workmanship was the plumbing. After the slab was poured we noticed that the water-line for the refrigerator icemaker was aprox 3 feet from the wall. This error resulted in a dead line in my slab and a new water line being routed through my attic which is subject to freezing. The next indication was the kitchen window which was incorrectly framed and had to be ripped out and relocated. Same with the kitchen-dining room doorway which was found to be 6" too narrow for the prefab door frame and it too had to be ripped out and redone. The next indication was the overlooked ceiling fan in the 2nd bedroom which resulted in incorrect wiring which necessitates having to control the light and the fan motor at the fan itself.

Since moving in we have discovered the a-c had no freon in it and that fact was known at the time of installation as the wire to the outside unit was purposely left off the thermostat because there was a leak. So much for the internal and outside independent inspections Weekly claims are performed.

I can't use my DuPure drinking water system because the faucet leaks. Weekly doesn't warrant this despite the fact that we were told otherwise.

We don't have the glass enclosed shower that was specifically shown to be included in our plan on the DavidWeekly website. We were told they no longer offered that after we signed the contract. Last time I checked there website it was still shown. Our utility room cabinets were forgotten making it necessary to accept a double rather than a single so that the hanging rod had to be installed next to the washer instead of over the dryer.

My bedroom door won't stay open despite an adjustment and we have various drywall issues resulting from light fixtures installed in the wrong place and door knobs being shoved through the adjacent drywall.

The irrigation system had a bad valve which could have been determined had the system been checked out. Additionally we had to have the front landscaping redone 3 times before it was installed as we had specified.

The last straw that finally prompted me to write this review is what I came home to today. My neighbor to the East had a drainage problem. I came home to find my gutter downspouts on the West side of my house had been cut off and black rubber boots installed in their place. The boots are ugly and detract from the appearance of the home. My Verizon fiber optic cable is now partially out of the ground where they snagged it with their trencher and what's left of my downspouts have rips and holes in them where the bottoms were ripped away rather than the rivet being drilled out for a clean removal. By the way, the lot to the West of my house is vacant. Go figure!

The bottom line is that Weekly has a great internet site and lots of great color brochures. What it really comes down to is one overworked Weekly project supervisor trying to oversee countless subs, none of rhem actually employees of David Weekly.

I probably missed a few things along the way and some of their mistakes actually benefited me like the brick ledge on the rear patio which wasn't supposed to be there requiring enough extra brick that they ran out. The result was that they had to reorder brick and I was left with over 100 extra bricks to use in my landscaping. I also got a bricked in patio which no one else in my addition has. The guys also upgraded my front door because of the shower snafu.

I didn't really mention the kitchen cabinets because it's too complicated to explain how they screwed them up. Lets just say it will be a long time before we get used to the way the doors open.

Are we happy in the home? Yes! Would we use David Weekly again? No!

We purchased a David Weekley home based on promises and representations made by the sales staff, marketing materials, past awards and your reputation in the Tampa area. Let me outline the list of problems that we have had or still have with what was to be our dream home. This list is by no means inclusive of our problems, but rather a mere sampling. 1...
