A Fantastic Hub for 3D Creators
Daz3D is a vibrant platform that caters to both beginners and seasoned 3D artists. The ease of navigation and the variety of products make it a go-to hub for all things 3D. The site's periodic free asset offers are a delightful bonus, allowing users to explore and experiment without breaking the bank. While some users have reported issues with installation and software complexity, the majority praise Daz3D for its vast selection and user-friendly interface. The community engagement and support add a personal touch to the overall experience, making it a fantastic resource for anyone venturing into the world of 3D creation.
Daz3d is Great
I have been using daz 3d for over six years and i may have spent 100 bucks out of pocket for content i just had to have. Daz3d has free content available if you go to the search bar and type in 100%. Most newbies dont know that. Also daz has specials i have gotten several of the bundles for free you just have to be able to check frequently. I have never had a bad experience with customer service, i bought my first content and it wouldnt download and daz worked with me until we figured out it was my firewall preventing it. I highly recommend daz3d. I do wish there was an auto rigging feature like on maya but oh well, maybe in the future?
Powerful software
DAZ 3D is very accessible, free to download, and has tons of models to use.
It is not a casual hobby, however. You will need to invest time, as you would in any art, to get good at it.
I'm a typical man: I like to skip the instructions. I highly recommend that everyone take the tutorials instead. They will improve your experience and help you with a steep learning curve.
The results, however, are fantastic--if you put the time in. Photorealistic models are achievable after you master the basics. People ask me if my renders are "real" and I'm just a beginner.
Final note: rendering is a long process, especially with an older computer. Please call my wife and explain to her that I need a faster computer with more memory.

Been using Daz for over a decade
Been using Daz for over a decade. I've been especially appreciating the accelerated updates these past few years. Thank you very much. Your interface is clear, and mostly well laid out. I think there could be some better consolidation on the main page, I would like more search filters, and I do find the overall installation cumbersome, but I did manage to learn how to save everything to an alternative drive. This is something that should be made more clear in the installation process: the ability to target-install the application and the directories with a clear warning that the directories are large, and should not be saved to your C: Drive. This has caused headaches over the years, but I made the effort to sort out how to get it done because I am a proponent of your software and service.
Daz3D is Redeemed!
It takes a real man to admit when he is wrong, and I consider myself every inch a real man. I was wrong in the negative review I left here & in how I acted towards one of the Customer Service Reps who tried to help me. In spite of my unseemly conduct, she remained courteous, respectful, and graceful "under fire" and worked with me to reach a highly satisfying conclusion. She bestowed upon me a great gift and, most importantly, restored my trust in Daz Studio in particular and humanity in general. I found out that the transactional difficulties I'd been experiencing wasn't the fault of Daz Studio or its servers, but some kind of glitch by my own "trusted" financial institution. Long story short, "eating crow" isn't a favorite pasttime of mine but it is what real adults sometimes do. Many thanks to Britney and Daz Studio!
Missing Handbooks!
This is not referring to this special order but is to be seen as a general "critic" There are many products on DAZ3D that seem to be very useful, but often creators spend only little time in explaining how to use them. It was often i have seen the usage of products being discussed in the forums and if it would be worth buying them. I ask myself how can they even be sold when people have to ask that question? Seems there were other users also that experienced such poorly explained products. There sure are explanations but the creators should elaborate them much better. Mostly they are only explaining what the features do but not how to get them to do it - if that makes sense. I think you as DAZ3D should push creators to make an effort that also users that are no pro's in using DAZ will understand it. That will benefit you in the end as well, because how it is now it makes you hesitate to buy an item when it even just seems like you would need an explanation in how to use it.
Awsome tool in my tool chest
Not sure why all the negative reviews, software is free and kicks butt if you have basic knowledge of computers and graphics software. No company technical support because Hey! It's free!. Lots of add-ons and a large product base. I have been using about 10 years mainly for medical visualization. Now I am building some simply games and visual effects with my videos. My toolbox contains Daz Studio, Blender, Unreal Engine, iClone, Photoshop and After effects. And Bridges between different applications. Current hardware is behind the times but what I can afford these days as I am retired. DELL Precision T3610 XEON 6 Core 12 [protected]@ 3.5 Ghz 128 GB DDR-3 Ram Samsung 1TB SSD Hitachi 2TB Hard Drive NVIDIA Titan RTX 24gb Video. 650 watt Pwr Supply. My workflow is kinda hap-hazard as I move around from app to app importing and exporting to get what I like, I'm sure I am not doing it right but works for me. I build most of my characters from scratch and sometimes use face gen. I am a photographer so I create a lot of HDRIs. I know my work is amateurish but I'm having a good time.
Worth every penny spent on it, which was $0.00 and still going strong
The program is free and they have offered many other sister-programs for free, since I have been with them. To date, I have over 1875 "free items", in my collection, directly from Daz3D, in the store. There is another couple thousand items that I have gotten online, legally, for free, from other sources. Daz3D opens them and renders them fine.
Honestly, no other program I have ever used for rendering has been this easy to use and looked this great and realistic, out of the box. For "paid content", it is top of the line stuff that is available, right along items that are just a few notches above the bottom line. The number of professional items is growing fast, quickly pushing out all the older content.
However, don't let the high prices fool you. That is like looking at a cars sticker price. Few actually pay that price. Most things in the Daz store often go on sale for 40-80% off. More often if you are a platinum member. However, to date, using only the free items, I have already done so much. (You honestly only need a hand-full of paid items to have millions of decent variations available to you, with little effort. With the free items, you have the same amount of variation too, but a little less control with the morphs and skins.)
Yes, this can be used for schools, offices or just for fun, as a hobby, without spending a penny. It can even be used professionally, to make renderings that will make you look like an actual professional, even when you are not. (I know, I do it all the time.)
Just be patient if things don't go as planned and take a moment to ask for help, as clearly and calmly and as civil as possible. You WILL get fast responses and solutions, to most issues in the live forums. (The help tickets are more for alerting them of technical issues with the software, not for one-on-one personal help with "learning curves".)
Sorry About All the Dissension I'm Reading Here
I think a lot of the reviews here are from the inexperienced who are unhappy about their lack of intuitiveness when it comes to using DAZ and its products. I personally do not use Studio. I'm not very comfortable with the interface and do indeed find it hard to put and find products in the library. But I have always believed that has more to do with me than DAZ's program.
The fact is novices and professionals around the globe are both turning out amazing works for everything from movies to graphic novels. I'm simply one of the many who can't. But I have created very basic scenes in Studio. (The software comes with a nice library of products so I'm not sure why there are complaints about having to spend money to use it out the box.) It renders fast and provides a range of options for lighting, camera operation and more.
I'm a Poser user. This is the platform DAZ chose to support for years. My inventory contains thousands of dollars worth of DAZ products. I rarely visit DAZ these days because they are all-Studio all the time. Since I don't use DAZ Studio, I can no longer use their products. But, unless their policies have changed dramatically, I have always found their support incredible. My association with them lasted well over a decade and I never had an issue that wasn't resolved to my satisfaction. Support was always quick to find a way to solve my problem quickly. Never had a ticket that wasn't resolved within a business day or two.
But those were my experiences. I certainly know of many stories about consumer unhappiness with DAZ. Their forums are filled with people that want to help though. They're an argumentative, supportive bunch, but they love DAZ and will try to walk you through any problems. And veiled threats aside, you can't blame DAZ for trying to protect its reputation. Would you sit back and let someone bad mouth your services -- on your own site?!?
I'm a professional writer and 3D hobbyist. I love Poser and, while I no longer purchase their products, still have a great respect for DAZ. I've been paid to write several reviews by third-parties who had no idea about my history with the company. Going back to see what they're doing still impresses the hell outta me. If I could figure out how to use Studio, I know I'd be having a great time with Genesis and some of Stonemason's new stuff.
I'm sorry so many of you seem to see DAZ as some sort of scam or hustler. I think that's as far from the truth as it gets.
Daz3d Complaints 6
You get what you pay for. and this 3D posing program is free. so. You don't get much
First off let me say that I have done so much research, watched countless tutorial videos trying not to give up on this platform over the course of several years, coming from Poser to DAZ I can definitely see why DAZ is free and Poser costs money, while both platforms are not perfect, certain little features that I took for granted on Poser are non-existent on DAZ and what's worse is that the "work-around" of these features in DAZ are NOT helpful. Things like hands and feet NOT having a "Translation" axis, which makes for a pain in the but time trying to pose a hand or a foot with any precision in 3d space, to say nothing about getting any effective results in DAZ with Inverse Kinematics. Symmetry posing does not make it easy at all to make both sides of a pose symmetrical, to and forget about saving intricate poses than took you hours to set, no, you have to go through a host of drop-down-menu's, check-boxes and they STILL won't pose the fingers symmetrically unless you select every-single-joint, you heard me right; you have to select every-single-joint and then check symmetry and check all the correct boxes and drop down menu's and then... after you spent hours getting just the right pose... DAZ will NOT save every-single-joint by clicking on the pose preset you just saved, no, no, no my dear 3d artist... you have to select every-single-joint again then click ONCE on the preset in your library and then hold "Control" and double click on the preset you saved and then, depending on how DAZ feels that day you may or may not get the exact pose for your fingers that you spent hours posing and saving. And that is just ONE of the 50 things that annoyed me. Like parented props NOT saving parented, even though you saved it as a parented pose... no, no, no, that is too simple my dear 3d artist, you have to convert your object into a Figure, then save the bones as children to a parent bone on your main figure and then save them BOTH in order for this "money-pit-of-garbage-program" even recognizes the new figure as a parented prop. In short... DAZ is a free-software-money-bait-through-selling-you-content scam, and I am probably going back to Poser... it's not perfect, and there are plenty of things that annoy me about Poser (in particular the, rare but devastating, memory leaks that can wipe out any custom content you create, never to be seen again) but it is definitely superior to this DAZ crap in many ways. Thank you.
Daz as a product
Ok so let's stop calling it free software because if you want to do anything meaningful it will cost you money which in itself is not a bad thing. I don't have a problem with that. I own 3ds Max and Zbrush which I paid a lot of money for. Here is where my problem is, let's say you buy something from an Amazon seller and when you receive that product it is missing things. When you go to that seller's site it doesn't even appear as though anyone even monitors the site. So if you contact Amazon about the issue and they said "Well we didn't sell you the product actually so we aren't really going to do anything for you." Would you buy from that Amazon ever again? Daz3D has some awesome capabilities from what I have "read" because I haven't been able to produce a single render since installing that software. Here is my issue if someone purchases something like all of the addins they expect support. So I really wanted to use the software and I expressed that things in the tutorials don't match up and documentation is out of date. I downloaded an item that I purchased and it was missing over half the files it was supposed to have according the documentation and the software because it threw errors all over the place. So I said I really want to use your software for my projects and I don't mind the money if I can make it work but we have to come up with a support option to fix my issue. So you would think they would send me an email and setup a phone call or something. Nope sent me another email saying "try this" of course it didn't work so I responded to it in 5 minutes and never heard back. This was on a product I paid for that wasn't working. So for those who might say well your computer might not be good enough. So in response I have an MSI GT83VR GRE Titan SLI. I have an 8 core i7 2.7 GHZ processor that overclocks at 4 GHZ, 32 GB of RAM and dual GeFroce 1070 Graphic cards with close to 4000 cudas. So there shouldn't be anything I can't run. The problem it seems like no one checks to see if anything sold actually works the way it is supposed. There doesn't seem to be any product testing at all. I don't think I have ever begged anyone do business with me for something I have paid for. They just don't seem to care, horrible business model. The Iray stuff makes me laugh because I own a license for Iray for 3ds Max 2018 and even it spits out errors when I import it into 3ds Max 2018. So I am not sure what version of Iray they are using but they don't act right. That is my two cents for what it is worth. I have honestly never seen anything like it. I know that if someone contacted my sales team and asked for a refund of two hundred or more, I would do what I could to fix the issue even if that meant logging in to see if what the settings looked like or something. I had three open tickets over the past week for three different items I purchased. Just seems more of just a catalog company. Not really sure what works with what to be honest. I couldn't get anything to import correctly in 3ds Max or Zbrush.
Their goal is to make each update worse
I began using this software years ago with release 4.8. The current release is 4.15. I use DAZ as a hobbyist making graphic novels and comics for entertainment. Seeing production time go from a week per issue to nearly 3 months is frustrating as a hobbyist, if I was trying to make a living with this, I would already have been forced to use something better.
This software has been getting worse with every update. There are endless pages of forums dedicated to the problems people have with the software, and they seemingly browse them relentlessly searching for things to make worse.
The first major problem that is well known to the DAZ crew is load times. By determining all the things you shouldn't do, and incorporating them into DS, load times have dramatically increased. The scene I am waiting on right now took 2 hours to load in version 4.15. When I first created it in 4.10, it took 2 minutes to load.
The second major problem is the "duh" moments. For example, I've been waiting 50 minutes now for DS to delete some items from my scene. As it often does, the screen has grayed out, is "Not Responding" and is doing absolutely nothing. This happens ALL. THE. TIME. There is no reason for it. The wait time varies from a minute or so to an hour or more. In resource monitor, you find it is holding onto the RAM, not doing anything (0% CPU usage) and analyzing the wait chain shows 2-3 threads "Waiting for network I/O to finish." The problem? There is no network I/O to finish. Sometimes it helps to shutdown DS and restart it, but then you're possibly hours down the line before you're back to work anyway.
Crashes are frequent, and they have ensured it takes13 acts of Congress and 45 acts of God to submit crash reports so that they can be sure to prevent learning from problems. The frustrating thing is that it is almost always the same two errors, and if they gave a damn, they could likely fix them. These two problems have persisted since 4.10, and there is no sign they intend to ever fix them.
To highlight my biggest issue, and one that is common amongst users as of late:
In 2015 I was averaging 14-30 renders per day. Today, with a computer that is far superior, re-rendering the SAME scenes, I am lucky to manage 3. That was with 2 instances of DAZ running, Hexagon, sometimes Blender, Firefox with 5-12 tabs open, GIMP, and often several other programs running. Right now, DS barely works when it is the only thing open. It often grabs every bit of RAM available for no reason at all, then crashes because there's none left. In version 4.10, the scene I have open right now used 1.2 GB of RAM. It is using 15.225 GB of ram in 4.15. Same scene, only difference is the version of DS. They also forced us to a single instance only, because they knew how helpful that would be in reducing productivity for those who have to get things done. And because, apparently, they don't know how to instantiate the temp files into a per-instance folder, so opening a scene in a second instance could overwrite temp files for the first scene and cause problems. So now you have to run the release and the beta if you want to get things done.
DS has horrid resource management. I've loaded a single asset, and then left the program alone. Starting at 560 MB of RAM, it sat and over 2 hours consumed 28 GIGABYTES of RAM, then forced itself to take over RAM that was in use by the system and crashed the computer. It has done this many times, and DAZ doesn't care. Often times the only way to get your RAM released is to close DS and restart it. Because it seems they forgot to write the part of the code to release memory when it's no longer needed. It also uses postgresql. Exe for some of the content management features (which seldom work), and to do that, it seems it needs 6-18 instances of postgresql. Exe running between 800 MB and 2 GB of RAM each. I think that a supercomputer would struggle with DS at times, and the guys at DAZ want it that way.
And new in version 4.14, and carried through to 4.15, you can quit DS, but you have to open Task Manager and end process to really close it. (You can never leave... bwa ha ha ha ha haaaaaa!)
They format their assets so they can't be used with other 3D programs and rest on that fact to force you to put up with their garbage software. And it is often much more expensive to buy models from DAZ than from other sources ($20-30 for a DAZ asset, $6-10 for the same thing for the other guys).
DS is "free." And it is WAY overpriced.
If Poser made it possible to use DS models, I would happily pay the $250 and use it. I'd be happy to pay for DS! If only it worked. As it is, like many I'm sure, the only reason I'm still bothering with DAZ and DS is that I have a huge and expensive library of models that I can't use with any other software. But I'm getting closer with each release to just calling it a loss and making the switch.
If you're looking to get started, don't let the "free" get you. You will quickly be buried in thousands of dollars of proprietary models and hating DAZ Studio.
P.S.
I started this damned task at 1815, it is now 2111, and I am giving up on it ever deleting my items. I have to now force close it, restart DS and hope this time it will actually delete my items. I might even be done with this crap before tomorrow night. Don't bother with DS. Plant quarters and grow money. You'll have more success and be happier.

Unauthorized charge
I gave them my credit card details because they asked me to do that. Never suspected anything and that was my biggest mistake.
Well, for the start let me explain that Daz3d was supposed to be FREE, but for some reason they needed my credit card information.
Used this program and was really satisfied with it. But one day Daz3d charged me for who knows what and they did not explain anything.
I called my bank and blocked Daz3d from any further charges. Not the best way to do business.
The website didn't support customers
The customer services on the website www.daz3d.com are terrible and they don’t provide any support. The software was new for me and I faced some problems there. I decided to contact the customer services, but there was no phone number. I left couple of messages, but they didn’t reply within 24 hours. I already wasted a lot of time, because I tried to understand how this software worked. But I have no idea. Be careful and better don’t try them.
Bad software and fake charges
I downloaded free software from the website www.daz3d.com. I was really upset with that, ’coz
It was difficult to use it and afterwards these scammers started to take money from me. WTF? I tried to stop it, but of course no one replied and I couldn’t stop these charges.I wonder if there are people, who had the same thing. Maybe you can advise me how to stop these withdrawals. Please post your ideas and comments. Thanks.
I bought awful software from daz3d.com. This site is working with different design directions. They told me that if I have any interest in learning how to create all of that cool 3D graphic effects I see in movies, this software will help me to create the same effect. The images I got were terrible.
