I encountered a series of issues when renting a car online, particularly with easycar ( I rented the car on EasyCar but the provider was Budget):
Firstly, the insurance policy became a major concern as the terms were not clearly stated. Easycar's website offers two insurance options: limited and premium. Opting for the premium insurance can lead to a confusing situation at the Budget rental desk. If you choose premium, you will be informed that it didn't fully cover accidents, and you would have to pay directly to Budget, seeking reimbursement from the Premium later. The website vaguely states that premium covers injury or damage caused by the driver during the rental period but lacks specifics on fault scenarios or coverage limitations. Given the challenging driving conditions in Greece, where road signs are obstructed and visibility is compromised, easycar should clearly outline the extent of premium coverage. Although I fortunately didn't experience any accidents, the shockingly high insurance bill of 260 euros for a 14-day rental at the Budget desk left me dissatisfied.
Moreover, the car itself proved to be a disaster. Despite reserving a vehicle capable of accommodating four passengers and being all by myself the AYGO they gave me struggled on even minor inclines in Athens. The car's issues ranged from a malfunctioning sage main on the first day to repeated problems with the brake lights, causing inconvenience and safety concerns. Attempts to contact customer service on the fifth day went unanswered after a 30-minute wait. On December 31st, at night, I discovered that other drivers were signaling issues with my back lights. Upon reporting these problems at the airport on January 1st, Budget requested me to refuel the car before addressing the issues. Near the end of the rental period a flat tire occurred, leading to a late-night road assistance intervention. While a replacement car was provided the next day, it arrived too late to meet my plans to drive someone to the airport, ultimately resulting in a negative overall experience.
In summary, the lack of clarity in easycar's insurance coverage, combined with the subpar condition of the provided vehicle and inadequate customer service, made my car rental experience with EasyCar less than satisfactory.
It is the second time that I use easycar and I believe there is a serious need for improvement.
Claimed loss: I believe the car wasn't fit for purpose and the insurance I was sold was excessive. £200 is a fair combination of time and inconvenience I experienced!
Desired outcome: 1. please change the information on your website regarding the insurance2. please inform people what they will be charged if they buy insurance at the desk3. please have a complaint email on your website!4. please refund
