May 21, 2024 - early morning - severe hail storm
The hail storm completely destroyed my roof, gutters, skylight and window. All invoices I have received and paid have been sent to Encompass, but to date I am short approximately $8400 between what I have paid and what Encompass has reimbursed. I received a phone call today indicating I will be receiving a check in the next 10 days for the remaining depreciation on my window replacement as well as the cost to take down and reinstall the blind on the damaged window. The amount of this check is approximately $2,000, which leaves me out of pocket approximate $10,720. I understood my out of pocket/deductible is $4320, but was expecting full compensation for the rest of the cost of repairs to bring my home back to its condition prior to May 21, 2024. Encompass hired a third party contractor to do the estimating on site and my contractor was here at the time to go over all of the damages and they were in agreement of the repairs/work needed. Now your offsite claims adjusters are saying it should have only cost x, blaming my contractor for inflating cost etc, telling me to file a report with BBB etc. If I file something with the BBB it will be regarding my treatment by your company, not the contractors. My contractor has been in business in the Omaha area over 25 years and is a highly rated and respected roofing/gutter firm. I have never had an insurance company deny/short a damage claim after proof of my total costs, the scope of the work done, photos of the damage and the work being completed had been provided. I have found your claims person to be rude and condescending, at one point she hung up on my contractor during a phone conversation. This was escalated to her superior last month, but more of the same. They're trying to shift blame, telling me I should have received multiple bids (there was not time to secure multiple bids as there have been several storms in this area this season and I wanted to be sure I could get the repairs done in a timely manner), that I'm not working with a reputable firm etc. I have worked with this roofing company in the past with good results. As a homeowner, it is my right to choose the contractors to make repairs to my home so I can have assurance the work will be done correctly and to expect to have those costs covered less the deductible.

Desired outcome: payment of the approximately $6400 remaining of my loss

Escalate to higher management and demand they address the shortfall. If no action, consider invoking the appraisal clause in your policy to settle disputes. If they keep stalling, file a complaint with your state’s insurance department and potentially seek legal counsel. Your home should be fully restored, and they are responsible for covering the costs minus your deductible. Stay persistent and act quickly.
