Mixed Experience with From Japan
As someone who has been using From Japan for a while now, I have had a mixed experience with their services. While their customer service is commendable and they offer a wide range of shipping options, I have encountered issues with inaccurate product measurements leading to higher shipping costs. Additionally, their handling of storage period expiration and disposal of items left me disappointed. Despite these drawbacks, their Buyer Protection Plan has been helpful in resolving issues with fraudulent products. Overall, From Japan provides a decent proxy service, but there are areas that require improvement to enhance the customer experience.
Amazing quality of packing and shipping - Better than Zenmarket
REALLY good packing for heavy and fragile goods
Shipping with UPS seemed cheaper than with Zenmarket, and they didn't SMASH up my stuff like Zen did several times. See my other review linked below if you want to avoid their terrible service. Also, Sitejabber reviewers seemed to have a far lower regard for Zen before I wrote my review, I seriously think there are plenty of bogus accounts out there because their rating has gone right up since I made Zen aware of my now *publishedthoughts. Check how many positive reviews they suddenly got around the 22nd to 23rd May, and that will tell you how reputable trustpilot really are too...

From Japan have packed my boxes with double boxing, suspended with polystyrene corners. It's like a box within a box, amazing service. See my video below to see how good it is. They really know how to pack big, electronic fragile items, because they are both professional and careful with the way they do things. I don't even have to go through the incessant nonsense of making a claim with them, Zen made my blood boil.
FromJapan Review: Untrustworthy and Exploitative Online Shopping Experience
This website, From Japan, is not a trustworthy place to shop. I unfortunately realized this too late. I ordered a couple of futons, but I will never receive them.
FromJapan does not offer returns, cancellations, or splitting the package to make cheaper shipping methods available. They don't answer customer requests, and you have to reach them through a form on the website. This is very clever because then you have no way of proving to your credit card company that you've been trying to resolve things with the seller in the case of a claim.
The shipping cost calculator is completely misleading. I understand the calculator cannot always be accurate, but the cost of shipping turned out to be 10 times higher than the estimate. This is three times more than the actual futons. At that point, the futons had already arrived, and of course, FromJapan refuses to return them or even reply to my messages.
Since I cannot have them shipped, they will keep my money and the mattresses. They say on the website that the mattresses will get destroyed, but I'm almost 100% certain they'll sell it or return it and get a refund. This should have been my refund.
Stay clear of this website. It's not a scam exactly, but the whole business is set up in a clever way that lets them exploit customers. They can keep my $300. I just hope this review warns off enough customers that they lose more than that amount in the long run.

Captivating and Heartfelt: A Review of The Fault in Our Stars
After months of using FromJapan's proxy bidding service to acquire japanese retro consoles and related gear. During the last couple of moths I ended up with what clearly seems to be a way for this company to steal from their customers: In two ocassions after browsing on an item that was very expensive, minutes later I received an email stating that I won the associated auction. I never bid on those items, however, somehow FromJapan used my account to bid the buyout price of those items -as I had my Paypal account linked to bid on auctions.
First time I contacted FJ customer service who only offered me to cancel the trasaction for a 20% cancellation fee... as that was over 500 USD I had no option but to accept. In the second case, I got an item that was almost twice as expensive as similar items in Yahoo Auctions, this time I decided to keep the item but filed a claim with Paypal. Unfortunately, Paypal closed my claim stating that my account was linked to FJ and I was responsible for its usage.
In turn FJ simply blocked my account aledgely stating that since I open a claim against them with PayPal I breached their Terms and Conditions. In the end, I asked for a comparable discount on shipping to my home country as compensation for this wrongdoing and asked for clarification on how this happened in the first place.
As you might guess. At some point FJ simply stopped responding my communications. I ended up paying over 300 USD on products I never bid on... and FJ simply did not care.
Be very careful with this vendor. They may play along for months until they decide to stat stealing from you.
Buyee.jp Review: A Frustrating Experience with Proxy Buying Services from Japan
I have had my fair share of experiences with proxy services when it comes to purchasing goods from Japan. It's quite unfortunate that some businesses in Japan do not cater to foreigners as customers, and it doesn't matter how much money you have. I have come across products with disclaimers that read "This Product is not for sale outside of Japan" or something similar, which can be quite frustrating.
My first attempt at using a proxy service was with Buyee.jp, which is not even located in Japan. Surprisingly, their headquarters are in the UK. I have noticed a pattern with most proxy buyer services, and it starts with winning the auction on Yahoo Auction, which is quite popular in Japan. After that, you wait until your goods arrive at their warehouse, and that's when the rip-off begins.
It's always the same story. They give you the impression that you can choose the shipping method you want, but when your goods arrive at their warehouse, they cut off all the affordable options, leaving you with only the most expensive ones. In my case, they categorized my stuff wrongly and even tampered with the weight, adding a few kilograms to it. Of course, they get a fee from the carrier company for every premium package they sell.
I purchased a frame for a pocket bike on Yahoo Auction Japan for about 10,000 yen, and all of a sudden, all the affordable options disappeared. They chose the most expensive shipping option for me, FedEx Prior, for only 48,000 yen. That's not what I wanted, and it's just five times the amount of the purchased item. I would have preferred sea freight, which might take 4-6 weeks, but I'm not in a hurry. I refuse to pay that ridiculous shipment price, and I'd rather let them discard it after 30 days of blackmailing. That's exactly what their policy is - pay the overpriced shipment fee, or they throw it away.
I didn't demand air mail shipping, but there was no other option I could choose from. I wonder if there's any honest proxy buy goods from Japan service out there. It's quite frustrating to deal with these proxy services, and I hope that someday, there will be a better alternative.
