Customer service with Getaround is a nightmare
Customer service with Getaround is a nightmare. I am an owner of a vehicle through Getaround, and I've had back-to-back issues with Getaround and its renters in the past several months with no resolution from anybody. They do not follow their own policies and their "Happiness Team" will give you the same "we've escalated your issue and you'll be contacted by a supervisor within 24-48 hours." They say these things just to get you off the phone. Absolutely no supervisor has contacted me, and no one from their "Trust and Safety" team has contacted me. I've sent follow-up emails on numerous occasions, but no answer. They've even told me that they prefer to communicate issues over email, but will leave my ticket unresolved for several weeks and months. These are some of the issues that have yet to be resolved by their "Trust and Safety" team: - Loss of Use reimbursement from a renter who got into a car accident 4 MONTHS AGO - Broken Window - Key stolen from my car - Flat tire - Dog hair and dirt tracks I do not recommend Getaround to ANYONE--both owners and renters. For those who are thinking about putting their car up on Getaround, your car will get messed up and Getaround will do nothing about it.
About a month ago I rented a vehicle on Getaround
About a month ago I rented a vehicle on Getaround. Everything was fine until a few weeks later I got notified that I had caused damage to the vehicle (which I hadn't, for the record). I tried to dispute but had no luck, since they hide every detail of their so called "investigations" and just put up a wall and tell you you're responsible for the damage. I ended up paying $1429.40 on 6/1, a very high amount for the damage they claimed but, still eager to put all this behind me I thought "ok, fine". Now, 18 days later and a month after the original trip, they claim the damage was higher (out of the blue) and tried to charge me over $800 more. Here is the kicker, they charged my card *before ever sending out a notice*. They then sent me a notification only because my credit card blocked the charge (and rightfully so)! If the charge had gone through, would they have even emailed? Probably not! This company will try to squeeze every last cent out of you. I will dispute this and post reviews everywhere to warn people. I'll bring it to small claims court if I have to. Especially because we all know they have insurance that is paying for this and are just trying to scam people out of money. This is shameful behavior. Do not rent via Getaround.

Getaround must be hurting for money because they have this new fuel scam where they claim they are no receiving the photos I submit for gas when following their end-of-trip process. I take the photo of the usually-full fuel gauge, which is always topped back off before dropping off the car. Needless to say, with the exception of once or twice, most of my trips in 2021 with Getaround (dozens) have resulted in getting billed for "using more gas than I put back." Excuses range from their app did not intake the photo from the end-of-trip process, or the CS rep asking if I happen to have another photo of the gas gauge (Why?! This is what that section of your f*@!$ app is for!), or that they now require a gas receipt screenshot to issue the refund (again, ill-taken money in the first place). Then it is tied up in their bureaucracy and I usually don't get it back. Honestly, I don't think of a receipt all the time as I am on my feet all day in a very fast-paced job and most of the time I am just thinking of getting home ASAP. Anyway, shouldn't the proof when ending the trip of a full gas gauge be more than enough on the front end as to never get billed for any further charge like this again? I feel that this is one of many issues that this company should be taken to heel for, and I hope my review gets notice. 0 Stars
Getaround is extremely bad and a **** company
Getaround is extremely bad and a *** company. I rented a 2010 car and got a flat while driving on the freeway with my kids in the car. I was able to safely park the car within a few minutes because the flat happened close to the freeway off-ramp...and the parking space was also located within the return circle area. I notified Getaround immediately via email since there is no way to contact them by phone. I also notified the car owner. 3 weeks later they tried to charge me $349 and claimed that I was responsible for the flat because it happened during my rental. The cost of the flat tire was $149..but they charged me an additional $200 and claimed that I had not notified them about the tire in a timely manner. Just to be clear, I notified them right away with 2 or 3 emails..and emailed the car owner 2 times. I am not paying for a flat tire that happened due to no fault of mine. I also had the Getaround insurance. On top of that, the owner went to purchase a new tire and her tire was already used when I rented the car. I told them that I will see both in small claim court before I pay anything for renting something with defective merchandise. SF City AAttorneyI have ceed to check into the Getaround business practices. Im sure their arbitration agreement also violates CA law. They even tried multiple times to charge my credit card. I reported it as fraud and I will never do business with them again. Good thing I kept my emails.
Great idea, horrible operation
Great idea, horrible operation. Nearly every rental ended with having to argue false charges, usually claiming i did not refill gas when in fact i did. One time kept me on the phone for 45 mins to make my rental late when the purpose of the call was to extend the rental and prevent the late fee. My last rental scheduled for 6:30 am return, I had thought I extended but regardless, I was not contacted until 3:43 am the next morning as attempt to extend the rental before requesting a recovery tow of vehicle. First of all, why almost 4 in the morning?! Secondly, to extend i was first required to pay the late fees which maxed out to $500 at that point. Keep in mind I previously had instance of getting locked out of the car while refueling before returning the vehicle the second it was due. Constant drug out support calls were of course always during the rental time paid with no compensation, always under accusation of something to charge me for, never acknowledging their own errors. And on that last rental, if it did indeed end ar 6:30 am and my mistake at not completing the extension, I should have not been able to operate the vehicle four hours later, as I did and certainly should not have had the vehicle for nearly 24 hours before being contacted. That would have had me in an irate panic mode as the owner of the car that *** would have appeared to have let my car go missing. Furthermore, they keep trying to charge me these fees, ignoring multiple notices of revocation of authorization to do so.

I began sharing my vehicle on Getaround in November , and after 10 months of using the service (with only minor customer-related incidents, mostly resolved), the vehicle was stolen outside of a customer trip. The vehicle was parked on a neighborhood street for customer access, and did not display a Getaround sticker. The Getaround "Connect" anti-theft and GPS device that disables the vehicle's starter without verification from a smartphone app was removed from the vehicle in the process of the theft, and since the key fob must be left inside the vehicle, it was used to start the vehicle and drive it away. The vehicle is easy to locate on the Getaround app, despite a 1/4-mile buffer placed around the location provided by the Connect device GPS signal. The vehicle was recovered a couple days later, and my personal auto insurance is handling the claim since I'm covered under comprehensive coverage. Getaround's vehicle owner insurance does not apply outside of customer trips, and the Getaround Connect agreement is essentially a "use at your own risk" warning. This review is intended as a warning to potential Getaround vehicle owners that your vehicle is very much at risk of theft if you decide to join the platform, and that Getaround does not offer any support if the theft occurs when the vehicle is not in use by a paying customer. I advise that if you are a Getaround vehicle owner whose vehicle has been stolen, you may file a claim against Getaround in small claims court, only. None of the agreements you sign with Getaround deny your right to do so. I would like to see a class-action lawsuit arise on behalf of other vehicle owners whose vehicles have been stolen using the Getaround Connect service. While personal insurance may cover most of the damages for some, a "use at your own risk" policy is negligence, at best, on behalf of Getaround.
I've been a Getaround car owner for almost 8 years
I've been a Getaround car owner for almost 8 years. I've had 3 cars on Getaround (2 smart cars and my Infiniti g35). In the beginning, Getaround was great about repairing any damage done to my vehicle from a Getaround renter. Getaround takes a high percentage of rental income. In the beginning I thought this was reasonable as long as Getaround would support Getaround Car owners and resolve issues if they came up. I figured that was fair. However, in the last 3 years, I feel like everything has changed. I've reported several damages to my car, and Getaround is reluctant to help fix my car. Their support for Getaround car owners is almost non-existent now and it seems like they just want to use your car for their own profit. They have all these rules that relieve themselves from any responsibility in fixing my car. Most recently, I had a renter who drove my car recklessly (I know this because the car computer and mechanic both note this), that my car's transmission and clutch overheated. The car stalled during the rental. The car was returned to me and I took it to the shop to get an estimate to fix. I contacted Getaround claims, and they denied my claim. They claim that this is "normal wear and tear". I explained to them several times that this was due to reckless driving. The car broke down during a rental. This should be covered by Getaround. I've reached out to them several times and I requested to speak to someone on the phone. As a getaround car owner, this is your worst nightmare. Your car breaks down during a getaround rental, and Getaround, who you think will support you, completely leaves you hanging. I continued to reach out to them and asked for them to reconsider. The last I heard from them, they deactivated my car on Getaround without any clear reason. I now have a broken car that was broken during a Getaround rental and Getaround refuses to fix. As a getaround car owner, this your worst nightmare come true.
This business is an absolute **** and I wish I read the reviews that mirror my experience before I gave them a try
This business is an absolute *** and I wish I read the reviews that mirror my experience before I gave them a try. I rented a getaround car for about 2 1/2 hours in May . I was in the car the ENTIRE time. I did not hit anything and was not hit by anything. I received a random email from getaround on July 30 (2 MONTHS after the rental) stating that there was damage to the car that reportedly happened during the time that I had it and that I was going to be charged $250 for it to be fixed. I responded asking for details about what they were referring to because there was no damage to the car done during the time that I had it. No one responded to my email until August 21 when they tried charging my card and it was declined. I asked for more specifics regarding this supposed claim and was told that there was a front bumper scratch that I was responsible for paying to fix. I was sent two photos of the scratch (which is big enough that I would have felt happen if it happened while I was in the car). I was also sent an itemized receipt from getaround showing the charges to get it fixed. I responded asking for photos of the car before and after my trip, showing that this damage occurred during my trip. The photo that they sent me from before my trip did not show the part of the car that has the scratch. The photo that they sent me from after my trip shows the part of the car that has the scratch. I responded stating that they need to actually send me legitimate time-stamped photos of the specific part of the car with the scratch, from before and after the trip. It's enough of a sign that this company is a *** that they don't even have a phone number to call and their email responses are sporadic and vague. It is obvious that someone did damage to this car when it was not my rental period and they are taking advantage of me to get it paid for. It seems like a common theme with this company. I'll be spreading the word to everyone I know to stay far away from this company. If getaround continues to pursue me for this damage that I am NOT responsible for then I will pursue legal action.
lets start by saying Getaround is nothing but a scam and the worse rental app company to rent car from
lets start by saying Getaround is nothing but a scam and the worse rental app company to rent car from. I rented a car from March 22nd to March 24th. You have to take pictures before unlocking the car through the app, a little piece of the bumper in the front kept popping out i noted that in and took a picture, minor scratches around, filthy seats. I was gonna extend the car longer but realize i couldn't I'm assuming the car was book after me. I provided pictures upon returning i took pictures there weren't any damage to the car. My boyfriend who's card i use on file notice a charge or $1800 this was taking out on April 5th I believe. I then try to contact them no number everything is through email. I search my email only to seen a email from an agent through the complaint department in my junk mail saying they made a decision and for damage that were on the car. The piece was called a "Rocker Panel" now mind you i never did any damage to car i barely drove it even returned it early. That piece don't cost 1800 dollars and they wouldn't even provide any proof kept saying they were gonna send me pics and never did and said they weren't gonna give my boyfriend back his money. If i did any damage i would own up to it but why should we have to pay for something that wasn't done on my trip. Then they lied and said the owner was there and check the car which was *** because i was there for about 30 mins waiting on my ride. I'm not the only one who complained about this company taking money out their account. This company is bad for business.. Stuff like that you suppose to contact someone and ask them how do they wanna go about paying for damage on a car "IF" they did it not just take it out someone else's account you can see the card name and account name were two different names.. I felt and still feel bad because that was money in his account for his daughter. We still trying to fight to get the money back. Please those if you renting from them please be careful with this company cause all they doing is *** people and don't care not one bit. If i can give this zero stars trust me i would. I been making complaints on their facebook as well. This has to stop!
How does this company have ComplaintsBoard.com accreditation?
How does this company have Complaintsboard.com accreditation? DO NOT RENT FROM GETAROUND! If they charge you in error, they WILL NOT investigate or refund you. Dispute the charges directly with your credit card. The Summary: Customer service is abysmal, company is incompetent and cars are in terrible condition. They charged me ~$1,700 in fees as a result of a breakdown, committed to conducting an investigation within a week to reverse the charges. It's been 4 months and I have not heard a word! The Story: I got a truck from them to for a trip from SF to Redding. On the return trip, the car overheated and I found myself stranded 100mi from home, by the freeway, in the middle of nowhere. Called customer service, they quoted me a towing fee, but said it's not my responsibility under the circumstances. They called a tow truck for me and proceeded to send it to the wrong location (about an hour away from where I was). I had to resolve this with the towing company myself. In the meantime, my reservation ended and they disabled my ability to turn on the ignition. Customer service said they can't help me. I was due to be back in SF by 8pm. Finally got there at 3am. All this time, the truck was considered "not returned". Next day, I found ~$1700 in charges for towing and returning the vehicle late. I managed to get in touch with customer service, who were of zero help. They are located in the Philippines and specifically trained to placate you with false commitments and not allow you to escalate your problem to someone that can actually help. After more than 2 hours on the phone, I was not able to speak to a to the claims resolution team or even a manager. All I got was multiple extensive holds and repeated "our claims team will get in touch with you within 48 hours and resolve the claim within a week". That evening, the "contact customer service" button disappeared from the app. The only way to contact CS is via email, which go unanswered. 4 months later, I still haven't heard from their claims resolution team. I disputed the charges with my credit card. Lucky for me, my bank does value my experience as a customer. Reading various reviews here and other sites, I can't decide if they are actively trying to defraud customers or if if this is just a side effect of complete incompetence. Either way, it's a truly horrific customer experience.
Hi, I would like to report an issue that I recently had with this online car sharing company called Get Around
Hi, I would like to report an issue that I recently had with this online car sharing company called Get Around. They are unreliable, never again! they did not respect the agreement that we had after they rented me an UNSAFE CAR, PUTTING ME IN DANGER ! No refund has been issued for unused rental time as well as for my uber to go home, no response to any of my email solicitations about this agreement and next steps, no apologies, they just disappeared and there is no phone number to communicate with them. I am reporting them because of the lack of response and customer support from this company after an incident happened on June 20th. This is what happened: I rented a car (FIAT500) from their web site, when I went to pick up all look normal, after about 1h from renting it different malfunction signals popped up (I have a picture of this), the first was tire pressure was low, then stop lamp that was not working and lastly a signal stating that the engine should be checked. I got scared as it did not look very safe so I called Get around support and their only suggestion was to find a car repair office close by to take a look (I want to mention that with my rental I bought their FULL insurance coverage), so disrupting my trip and scared for my safety I reached a car repair office close by, he kindly took a look and he told me that the all-electric system was unreliable with an engine MISFIRE identified (I have a photo with this repot), he told me that was unsafe to keep driving this car and to communicate it to the car rental service. I did it, a very rude guy replied not willing to offer me any options to go back home safely, I convinced him to call road service (included in my insurance plan) and to speak with his manager to find a way to bring myself home safely. After about 1h (around 2:30pm) I spoke with his manager (***) he agreed to send the road service, to refund me the unused trip and to help me to go home by reimbursing me an uber (I have his email where he states to send him my uber receipt). They claimed that road assistance should take 30-60 min and that I should remain close to the car the all time and I did (likely I reached already a village and I was not on the side of the road). Road assistance took instead 3 hours to get there, they arrived at 4:54pm after calling me multiple times asking me who will pay them and where they should bring the car as it was mine while Get Around should be responsible of having a correct communication with them. Once they arrived (I have picture of them getting the car) I was able to call an uber as discussed on the phone with Get around and get safely home. It was an horrible day and their customer support was very slow in reacting to put myself and the car is a safe position after the incident, but it is not the worst since they did not respect the agreement that we had, no refund has been issued for unused time as well as for my uber to go home, no response to any of my email solicitations about this agreement and next steps, no apologies, they just disappeared and there is no phone number to communicate with them. I am asking some help to get a refund that I think I am entitled to after they rented my an unsafe car putting myself and people that were with me in danger. Thank you very much for considering this issue and I happy to provide documents and picture to support my statements.
It's incredible that this company exists and highly unfortunate that it seems to have a monopoly in the tech capital of the world
It's incredible that this company exists and highly unfortunate that it seems to have a monopoly in the tech capital of the world. As a carless citizen of ***, I've been compelled to use their service. When their service works, it's adequate. It's not a great service - I'd give them 3 stars when things go smoothly. Not the most user friendly. It's more economical (at times) than ZipCar or Uber/Lyft and there's much more supply. However, when their service doesn't work, it's a horrible, soul-sucking experience.Setting up my account was highly difficult because they require a *** account to verify your identity, even though countless other companies have other ways of verification that don't require you to submit your personally identifying information to one of the most evil companies in the world. For my inconvenience, they offered me 15% off a future ride only on the weekdays. (So, pretty much nothing). The issue that compelled me to write this, though, was much more egregious. On August 13, I booked a car to go to a *** I booked a car from 7am to 11am on August 31 and it cost $12.18. My *** was about a 35 minute drive away at 8:15 am, so I figured I gave myself a lot of time.On August 31, I'm running late, as is my right, and I get to the car at 7:30am. I can't open it. I call them, which takes 4 minutes on hold. The man with whom I spoke gets real nasty with me and claims "we've been calling you all morning to tell you the battery died." Someone called me *whileI was on the phone at 7:36am. So no one even notified me until 36 minutes into my rental, which I was still on the clock for.I try to book a different car cause there are no cabs available and because their system ***, you can only book a ride to start at every 15 minute interval, which means I have to wait until 8am because this idiot I was on the phone with was too busy blaming me for not picking up a phone call allegedly from them that my phone was marking as spam and wasted a bunch of my time.I tried to book a different car for $16.61 from 8am to 10:30am, which turns out was not parked in the right spot so I canceled that quickly and finally booked a third car for $24.92 from 8am to 10:30am because I literally was right in front of it and couldn't afford to wait another 15 minutes. (Remember, my appointment, that I'd waited a MONTH for, was at 8:15 am). It's 8am and I'm booking it to my doctor, calling them while I'm driving to apologize. Luckily, my doctor squeezed me in.On my way back, I realize I won't be able to park again without extending the time, so I add 15 minutes for $3.72. To add insult to injury, Getaround charges me an additional $7.50 for the toll then $11.92 for gas, even though the tank was over 90% full when I returned it.All in, the trip cost me $48.06 for 3 hours and 15 minutes even though I originally booked a car for $12.18 for 4 hours.I wrote to them explaining that because they failed to communicate and because they don't keep track of their vehicles, I almost missed a medical *** and also got charged nearly 4x what I was expecting to pay because I was forced to use a more expensive car, again, because they fail to keep track of the location of their vehicles or communicate. They offered me $5 in credit for a future ride. I wrote back saying that I should at the ABSOLUTE least I should be compensated the difference in what I expected to pay - about $35, but noted that a competent company that actually cared about their customers and their customers' safety would have comped the entire trip. They then offered me $15 in credit for a future ride.I am livid with the company and so angry that they have a monopoly in . I hope a competitor comes up to take over the market, but until I get a car of my own I have to use them. Luckily, I don't use them often but I highly recommend doing literally anything else possible to get to where you need to go.

On Aug 17 I rented a car from Getaround
On Aug 17 I rented a car from Getaround. I went to pick the car up at 6 am and it had no gas in it (according to their own policy it should have been full). I took it to the gas station to put gas in it. When I went to start the car after getting gas, it wouldnt start. I called Getaround to see if they could come fix it and the only thing they offered was a tow. I waited the 30 minutes they said it would take to get a tow truck and it never showed so I called them back and they said it would take another hour, at which point I needed to get to work. I left the car for them to pick up. They never stopped the rate in the rental and charged me for the entire 6 hours even though I only had the car (working) for 30 minutes. When I called them to ask them to end the ride, they never did and ended up charging me the entire amount ($85) PLUS the cost of towing, for a total of $245 for a car that I was only able to use for 30 minutes through no fault of my own. I have been talking back and forth with them for the past 3 months and the situation still hasn't been resolved, even though I have emails from them saying they would reimburse me the total costs. It's impossible to speak with anyone there (by design) and now they won't even respond to my request for them to delete me entire account and information , which you can only do via a request form through the app. All I want is for them to do what they promised they would (reimburse me) and delete my profile entirely.

I was just billed $480 for damage to a vehicle that I did not cause
I was just billed $480 for damage to a vehicle that I did not cause. The company contacted me once to confirm that this damage was being investigated. I informed them that I was not aware of any damage that occurred during my trip, certainly not the damage they were describing and suggested that this couldve been the result of the vehicle being stored in an unsecured lot in a bad section of Hollywood.I paid for vehicle insurance through this company and was guaranteed a *** liability of $250. However, I was just build nearly double that because I did not report this damage- damage that I was unaware of).Ive now paid for insurance coverage, paid for damage I did not cause, and paid for not reporting damage that I was unaware of. The most I should have been charged is $250 per their insurance policy. After convincing so many of my friends to use their service, Im taking the time to individually contact each person and tell them what happened to me.There was no phone correspondence from their team offered and no consideration given to my point that the vehicle is stored in an unsecured lot. I was not aware that I was excepting liability for damages that happened to the vehicle after I rented it. Further, the insurance policy is misrepresented in their app stating that the *** you can be charged is $250 when in reality, you can be charged beyond that. Im extremely disappointed in the service and will be turning to alternatives for all of my business rentals in 2022.

Hi,I believe Getaround **** is price gouging fuel prices
Hi,I believe Getaround *** is price gouging fuel prices. I used Getaround on 3/23/2022 to book a rental car. When you book a car through getaround the car is supposed to come with a full gas tank, and the renter is supposed to return it with a full tank aswell. I rented a 2019 *** Sienna for use from 5pm till 11 pm on Wednesday March 23rd, 2022. Upon checking, at the start of the trip, the fuel level was 68% and when the car was returned to the Home Location, it was only at 51%. I used 17% of the gas. This is equal to 3.4 gallons of gas that I used. According to Getaround's refueling policy, they require Guests to replace any fuel used during the trip. In the event that gas is not properly refilled before the car is returned, the guest will be charged for the cost of gas at a per-market rate. The current highest per-market rate is $5.99 for regular, and $6.39 for Premium. *** clearly *** that for 2019 *** Sienna, premium gas is not recommended and that we should use regular gas. So according to Getaround's fuel policy of per-market rate refuel, I should only be charged $5.99 per gallon. However, this was not the case. I was charged $13.02 per gallon by them! The total came out to $44.27 for 3.4 gallons used. $13.02 is double the current fuel market rate. I did not agree to pay $13.02 per gallon of gas. I believe that Geraround is price gouging the fuel prices in order to profit without properly informing their customers. I am looking for a refund of the excess amount that was charged to me.

Today [protected] I was to pick up a rental car from getaround
Today [protected] I was to pick up a rental car from getaround. I paid in advance $240 which they refuse to refund because I cancelled. I made it to the location via lyft and uber but their app did not allow for me to unlock the car via the app. I had rented the vehicle for 6am and I needed to be at work over to *** by 7am. They claim because I cancelled. I will also include the Lyft reciepts with the addresses. I had to cancel because I could not retrieve the vehicle at set times due to problems with the app. Prior to this they made me to pay $183 for miles over when I kept in constant contact with them letting them know that the vehicle was unsafe to be on the road. I went from *** to *** for work. I constantly had to pull off with the vehicle to put air in the tire. They completely ignored my constant contact with them and charged me $183 anyway. I lost my job in *** behind that incident. Now this. They said that there is not enough evidence that their app was at fault. I've rented from them 12 times before. It never sent a unlock car key to the app causing me to run late to work and getting up early losing sleep. I was depending on the rental because now I will be having a hard time trying to get to work again from the money loss. I want a full refund from them to include the $183 that was not my fault. They put me on the road with an unsafe vehicle. I have my bank statement and previous communications with them to prove the previous issue. I could have lost my life behind that one. By the *** of God I made the trip but lost my job in ***.

Getaround equips their vehicles with a feature they call "Autotoll" to pass toll charges through to customers who rent a car through their service and drive through the automated toll lanes. Autotoll automatically charges for anticipated tolls using GPS from a customer's ride, regardless of whether or not an automated toll lane was used, and regardless of whether Getaround or the host was charged for a toll. They say to wait 30 days for the tolling system to automatically apply adjustments if no toll charges were actually made to the host's account. In practice, however, this never works. The tolls between *** and *** have gates, and the Autotoll feature does not lift those gates. So a customer like me drives to the gate expecting it to open, and it doesn't. So I pay out of pocket for the toll. Getaround charges me anyway for each toll, plus a processing fee at each toll. This has happened on every trip I've taken to *** since they introduced this feature. After months of exchanging emails with them and repeatedly sharing personal information and bank statements showing the wrongful charges, they insist everything is working properly. Only after reaching out to them regarding wrongful charges on my most recent trip (December 24th) did anyone explain to me how this is actually supposed to work. But now, more than 30 days later, I have not been refunded my $18.20 in wrongful charges. This is a scam and they refuse to fix it. They also have no phone number for customers to call them on this. Sending them an email is hit or miss, sometimes you get a reply, sometimes not. Sometimes it takes weeks to hear back. Their system is broken, and it is a scam.

I let a company called Getaround use my personal car to rent out to ordinary people
I let a company called Getaround use my personal car to rent out to ordinary people. I checked out my 2014 Dodge Journey immediately prior to a rental and it was in perfect shape, The renter picked up the car and drove it for several days at the end of November . At the end of her rental, she complained about a noise and inability to use the window. I investigated shortly after her trip ended and found that during her rental the heat shield was torn from the undercarriage and an extremely loud rattling sound could be heard while the car was turned on, sounded like the car was falling apart. No sane person would take a multiple day 100+ mile trip with this level of damage. I also found what looked like fresh bodily fluid on the window control module of the car. I reported this to Getaround and they told me they refuse to pay for the damage their renter did. They claim it could have been there before. If this is true, and the renter drove the car for multiple days with huge rattling sounds, that would cause more damage to my car and is plain negligent. Getaround has tried to draw out the process, coming up with multiple different stories from multiple different people at their company, starting dozens of different email threads. I don't know where to begin, which story to try to deny repairing my car damaged by their renter. If there is a problem with the car, it must be reported at the beginning of the trip. There was zero damage at the beginning of the trip, If there was anything, it would have been reported, the rattling sound of the torn medal was overwhelming. All damage reported at the end of the trip was caused by the renter. Getaround must stop negotiating in bad faith and pay for repairs to my car conducted by their renter. My claim number is GETA_***.

Getaround charged me for pre-existing damage on an owner's car that I did not cause
Getaround charged me for pre-existing damage on an owner's car that I did not cause. There were plenty of photos from each of the trips (December 15, August 25, and July 7) I had taken with the car with notes about the large cracks/ dents in particular. I did not note a few scratches among the already extensive exterior damage to the car and after December 15, Getaround and the owner decided to charge me $1578.29 for scratches on the front fender passenger side, the rear quarter panel passenger side, and on the passenger side front door. I know I did not cause these scratches during my trip because some of them are within the deep dents already on the car that were photo documented and reported to Getaround prior to the start of each trip. If there were collisions, I would have reported them myself because I do things by the book and believe in respect and honesty. Furthermore, I am required to take photos of the car after each trip to prove I did not cause additional damage-- the photos were all taken around 10PM at night-- dark and at the instructed angles. I did not take additional photos of the damaged areas since I did not cause them and I had documented them before the trips began. Given the pre-existing damage on the car, I still chose to take the risk of renting it because it operates fine and figured the owner was not bothering to fix the car. Getaround also did not notify me that with the investigation, my account status changed and I was unable to rent cars-- almost impacting my ability to get transportation to a regular commitment. In the past, Getaround also failed to notify me even though they knew a rental car had a dead battery. Switching to another car was a hassle and the car location was so far that we had to take a Lyft to get there. I was late to my commitment and Getaround did not refund me for this incident.

On November 13th I used Getaround to rent a car for a few hours to move some boxes from my storage unit to my apartment
On November 13th I used Getaround to rent a car for a few hours to move some boxes from my storage unit to my apartment. I've used Getaround quite a bit since I don't own a car and have found it very convenient. this time everything seemed fine. I picked up the car as usual, used it and drove about 4 miles, then filled up the gas and returned it. I didn't not notice anything different when I picked up the car. I took pictures of the exterior as instructed by the Getaround app. There was nothing to report on the interior. When I returned the car about 3 hours later, I did the same thing and followed Getaround's procedure and took pictures of the exterior. Again, there was nothing to report in the interior, except for the fuel level, which I took a picture of. everything was as usual and there was no incident or accident or anything at all that would make me think there was anything wrong with the car. about a week later I got an email from getaround saying that the "check engine" light is on and I will have to pay $1700 to get it repaired! Without investigating anything whatsoever, I get charged on my credit card. Getaround sent me some picture of someone holding a plastic piece with some wires. I've asked what the picture is of, but haven't gotten any response. It could be from a car maybe (?), but it could be from anything really. There definitely is nothing indicating that is the car that I rented. Or where on the car this is, and what I allegedly could have done to it. these guys are just charging people either to make some extra money or because the owner wants someone else to pay for fixing a car that he is not maintaining properly. Check engine lights come on and off all the time and it could be because someything happened after my trip, or before my trip. All I know is that the light was not on when i used it and nothing happened to the car while i was using it.

I rented a car with GetAround for a total of $232.54 I rented the car for two days
I rented a car with GetAround for a total of $232.54 I rented the car for two days. On Sunday 11/21 , the car had to be returned by 6:30 EST. I called 5:32 pm EST and spoke with a GetAround representative, we were on the phone for about 30 minutes and nothing worked. The car was able to unlock and lock but was unable to crank, all the lights came on but, I was unable to drive. 35 minutes has passed and I finally get a friend to jump start the car, I get gas and drive to drop off location which is 35 minutes away from my current location. I was told before leaving that a GetAround representative extended it till 40 more minutes so I can have time to drop off. 20 minutes while driving the screen goes out and it says the system is updating, I continue driving, mind you I am driving 68 mph. Shortly after that the dashboard lights go out, then the steering wheel freezes up. At this point, Im scared for my life, I'm was in the middle of my interstate and was unable to stop car or move. All the lights are off. They kill switch the car while in the midst of driving, my life was in jeopardy. As this is happening, I am on the phone with GetAround and they are trying to get control of car, the car still was unable to start. They are causing me mental anguish and anxiety. The cops come shortly after , and assist me on side of the road, I call a Lyft and left the car because at this point, I am scared and do not want to drive the car anymore. GetAround representative was notified that I left. So Monday on 11/22 I get an email that they are charging me a late fee for $140. Then later on 11/22 they tried to charge me $350 for the tow fee because the car was unable to drive. According to RoadSide Policy , Getaround is responsible for payment due to the Host malfuctioning of vehicle. Next day the host, says that the car is fine. Get Around doesn't have a phone number so I am unable to get in touch with anyone.

I began renting my 2011 Prius via Getaround in October
I began renting my 2011 Prius via Getaround in October . On my first rental, the car was to be returned on a Sunday afternoon but was late. Getaround texted me that the rental had ended and provided the car's location, 22 miles north. After a Lyft ride to the car, I found the renters still had it, with one trying to open the hood and another tampering under it. They were frustrated and wanted to keep the car, so I took another Lyft home. They extended the rental twice and were late each time. When they finally returned the car, I found warning lights on the dash. The next day, the car had acceleration issues and broke down on the freeway. A tow truck took it to my auto shop, which found tampering in the fuse box and a broken hood latch. I reported this to Getaround and filed a claim. However, without time-stamped photos as proof, my $483.00 claim was denied, and Getaround charged me $80 for filing it.

I rented a car from Getaround for the days of April 17 - April 20
I rented a car from Getaround for the days of April 17 - April 20. Had some set backs with the host resulting in me getting the car a day after the trip started but then the real trouble started. During the rental time everything was fine. It is when the car was due when all hell broke loose. I was running 4 hours late. Completely my fault. I did extend the trip an hour but that was all it would let me do. So now I am parked at the last place I needed to go before returning the car and boom, here comes the tow truck. I understand this action as it is in the contract. The thing is that I had a lot of stuff in the car that I needed to get out. I voiced this to the tow guy and that's when he says that for $20 he would leave the car there and drive away like he couldn't find it. I pay and off he goes. I have about 7-10 people who witnessed this. I get my stuff out and put it in a friend's car to keep while I drive the car back to the drop off spot. One problem, they had killed the ignition with their kill switch device. So now I can't drive at all. The car is stuck where it is and I have no way at all to return. So, if it had been towed it would have saved me many hours. If I could have driven the car it would have saved me many hours. But, because of an opportunist tow truck driver and Getaround rendering the car useless the car is just sitting there racking up late time and I can't did anything about it. First was a $50 late fee. Then the $450 late fee came in. THEN the $500 towing fee showed up! I've never seen a tow cost $500 in my life. So now the total is $1400+ for this rental. I call and email "customer service" explaining these issues and just like all the reviews say the guy I spoke with was dismissive and half asleep giving me no answers at all. And I did ask to see the invoice for the tow but as you can imagine there was no reply to that. There is more to this but I am just about out of characters. This company is money hungry and has no ethics.

I am filing complaint as a vehicle owner, about the extended delay in resolving multiple complain cases, and the longest single pending case
I am filing complaint as a vehicle owner, about the extended delay in resolving multiple complain cases, and the longest single pending case result in over $2700 of vehicle damage that has not been resolved since it was initially filed Dec 1, 2019 - that is over 4 months ago. I was a great supporter of car sharing business model and decided to give my personal car a try. Getaround seemed to be a better choice at the time of decision as it provides the flexibility that other provider doesn't seem to offer, and their sale staff was very proactive in resolving any questions or concerns I had, giving me the confident to go with them. I was also convinced that car will be fully covered by their insurance during rental period and will be taken care of with $0 deductible. However things starts to change after renter causes damage to the vehicle. A renter damaged the front, rear and side of the car and claim was filed Dec 1, 2019. For the first month the only response I got, despite over 10 follow ups, was 'support filed the ticket and someone from claims department will look into it', only after a month of escalation from support side did I realized the claim was not even assigned to any staff. Since then, more renters caused damage to vehicle, include car soaked with smoke stain and more exterior and interior damage. The rest of months, despite numerous follow ups again, I was experienced response including: 'staff that handled the case earlier is no longer with company, thus case left pending' 'damage under 3" is consider wear and tear and is not covered' 'repair cost will not be seen until the next pay period' - which causes another month of wait and delay, and there is no way to 'verify' until receiving of the statement a month after. 'I will be okay with approving repairs for the estimate provided. I will process the amount for the cost of repairs to be included in your 4/15 earning statements.' - which is not shown When the car was initially put in to the fleet, I had car inspected, major service done, new tires put in, and the car was in near perfect shape according to dealer. In less than 1 year, my car's condition is coming from near perfect to damage with front, side, and back, with heavy smoke stain, cigarette burns on seat. Claims filed with detail description, who caused that, tons of support photos, and quotes from bodyshop/detailer/dealer provided, with dozens of follow ups - yet left unhanded.

Getaround is a great way to make money on the side but a HORRIBLE company to do business with as they are nearly impossible to reach and their representatives are indifferent and unhelpful to say the least. I could detail several unpleasant experiences with the Getaround 'Customer Happiness' team but my current issue takes the cake. My vehicle was reported damaged at the start of a trip (12/15) by a renter who sent photos to Getaround and myself of the damage to my sunroof. Getaround had my car towed, I assumed to a covered/secure location, from the vicinity of the parking space that I rent from them for my vehicle. I was out of the country at the time of the damage but called several times to speak with someone regarding the damage claim but was given the runaround for literally three weeks! When I finally heard from someone in the claims department, the representative (Emily) was very condescending as she informed me that my claim was being denied due to their belief that the damage occurred outside of a Getaround trip. I obviously was unhappy with this answer as it took a full three weeks to receive the devastating news. I asked Emily to provide proof that the damage did not occur on the last rental. Emily placed the burden of proof on me and responded that since I was 'so sure' that the damage did occur during a trip that I should provide proof that it did. Outraged, I began to list the many things for which I feel Getaround is liable for in this situation (leaving my car in the pouring rain with a smashed sunroof for hours before towing it, towing it to another unsecured/uncovered location, not attempting to recover any cctv footage from the parking spot that I rent from them that might clarify when the damage occured, and taking three weeks to even acknowledge my claim). Emily couldn't care less. She stated that she would be ending the call and emailing me everything that she had to substantiate their denial. 4 hours have passed and I have not received anything from Emily or anyone else at Getaround despite sending a follow-up email requesting actual proof that this damage did not occur during the trip in question. It is absurd that a company would have such blatant disregard for such expensive assets, although the other Complaintsboard.com complaints confirm that it is apparently a standard practice of theirs to ignore and deny damage claims. My car's damage should be covered in full unless Getaround can prove without a doubt that this damage occurred outside a trip as the vehicle was routinely inspected in accordance with their policy. Even if it can be proven that the damage occurred outside of a trip I am still entitled to damages from my car being taken hostage by Getaround for the three weeks that it took them to respond to my claim. In addition to this, Getaround is also liable for the damage that my vehicle sustained in a parking spot owned by them that they should have cctv surveillance of for instances such as this one. If it can, in fact, be proven that this damage occurred outside of a trip I will accept the findings; however, to tell me that this is being decided based solely on a customer survey response of 'no' when asked if the vehicle was damaged during the trip is laughably naive and unacceptable! Regardless of what is found regarding the time the damage occurred, Getaround owes me for the water damage that my vehicle sustained while in their custody and I will not rest until this fault is acknowledged and rectified by Getaround

Car rental service. Company kept everything we owned because I was 1 hour late.
This was a few months back, we had been renting this minivan for a week. I gave the almost a thousand dollars for this privilege. The day it has to be returned, at 4:30 in the morning, we are w xhausted from moving everything we own just my wife and I, so we slept through the alarm. Woke up at 6. The van with our final load of most sentimental and important and expensive possessions, including all our good clothes shoes ,MY WIFES FATHERS ASHES, my crossbow, tablets, a laptop, our dogs food, anyway, all gone. Call the company over and over again, refuse to help us tell us where our stuff went do anything at all for us, probably because the call center is in new Delhi. But they don't care, won't help us, they literally stole and entire van load of our most valued and cherished possessions. And basically told me to go F myself that it wasn't there problem and they wouldn't lift a finger to help me.
Desired outcome: I want my things replaced, and I want an apology, and a promise they will never w r do this to anyone again. Or I want the cash value of my possessions, conservatively 5k.
These people are monsters they've done nothing for us. Just about every nice thing we owned stolen in one shot.
nothing?
my car has an issue and getaround is not able to help in my case. customer service is incompetent. you have to organize how to get your car back when its far away from your hometown. unbelievable!
About Getaround
The concept behind Getaround is simple: car owners can list their vehicles on the platform and set their own rental rates and availability. Renters can then search for available cars in their area, book them for a specific time period, and pick them up directly from the owner. Getaround handles all of the payment processing, insurance, and other logistics, making it easy for both owners and renters to use the service.
One of the key benefits of Getaround is that it provides a more affordable and flexible alternative to traditional car rental services. Renters can choose from a wide range of vehicles, from economy cars to luxury models, and can rent them for as little as an hour or as long as several days. This makes it ideal for people who only need a car for short periods of time, such as running errands or taking a weekend trip.
Another advantage of Getaround is that it helps to reduce the number of cars on the road, which can have a positive impact on the environment. By encouraging car sharing, the platform can help to reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and promote more sustainable transportation options.
Overall, Getaround is a convenient, affordable, and environmentally-friendly way to rent a car. Whether you're a car owner looking to earn some extra income or a renter in need of a vehicle, Getaround is a great option to consider.
