Poor service at the expense of consumers
ZERO STARS!
GFL is a Canadian waste management company that has a monopoly over trash and recycle pickup locally. It took over the major trash companies in Fredericksburg to include Stafford County government and Shifflett's.
Since it took over trash pickup around 2022 in this area, there have been MAJOR problems with missed pickups. I have had problems with them since their takeover that includes runarounds from them and phone calls not returned...all the while I still have to pay for the monthly service.
When I called and asked to speak with management today, it sounded like I was speaking to someone from somewhere else. They wouldn't let me speak to management, nor give me their contact info. I left a callback number that was not returned.
There are MANY complaints and 1-star reviews about this company, including complaints to the Better Business Bureau. The Potomac Local News has several articles about this. The problem still remains.
There is something very wrong about the way this has fallen on the customers, and it's time to get better visibility on this.
Recommendation: Write your Congressman. GFL has a monopoly on trash/recycling in North America. This is larger than us.

GFL/Advanced Disposal garbage company. HANDS DOWN, the WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DONE BUSINESS WITH!
I was finally within the window to cancel our contract with GFL. I said, just wait, they will raise my pricing again because I am closing our account with them. Sure enough, another $39 for monthly services.
We will be going with John's Disposal. Straight amount, no extra fees, taxes and NO contract to sign. And they are half the price for the same services, BEFORE this last GFL increase.
How can one company charge so much more than another for the exact same services?!?!?! Not to mention GFL's customer service is a joke!
I can't recommend enough for you to compare prices elsewhere if you are using GFL as your garbage/recycling provider.
And I can't tell you how excited I am to get out of this ridiculous contract with them.

They raised the prices and failed to pick up the trash on the delayed holiday schedule without any notice. As a result, bears got into the bins and scattered the contents all over the road. The service has really gone downhill. I am definitely going to switch to another company as soon as I can.

I have to call every day to check the status. They keep saying that someone will come, but it's always another no show.

This company is the worst to deal with. They always break the contract. They make excuses for not serving their customers. We are a *** and GFL doesn't just miss a pickup sometimes - they miss for many pickups in a row. They haven't collected for over a week, missing 4 times. If you want a good vendor, don't choose GFL!

As an employee here, I've seen a lot of ways this company is okay with messing over their employees and not even thinking twice about it. They were offering a sign-on bonus when I was hired, but apparently in the fine print, they have found ways to not pay it. After half a year of working there, I will not receive a cent of the bonus, and it is only possible if you never miss a day or do anything wrong. This company is not transparent at all, and management from top to bottom has no clue what they are doing and are not even trying. I would not recommend this place for employment to my worst enemy.

They didn't pick up my trash that was supposed to be picked up on Thursday 7/14/2022. I called 3 times on Thursday, once on Friday 7/15/2022, and twice on Monday 7/18/2022, but my very smelly trash still hasn't been picked up. They have the worst service here in ***. I feel like the trash person picked and chose which trash cans to dump. They have said several times they would be out to pick up, but still a no show since last Thursday. I have to call every day to get status. They keep telling me someone will be out, but it's another no show. If I get a fine from my HOA, they'll be paying for it.

GFL Environmental ain't all about that customer service, ya know? I gave 'em a ring to make a payment, but they said their system was down. I could hear some loud and unprofessional voices in the background, like they were chillin' in a car or somethin'. The rep said she'd call me back, but she never did. So, after about 6 hours, I called her back myself. She still said the system was down. The next week, I called again, and another rep insisted that their system was never down. Even though they often didn't pick up our trash like they should, we stayed loyal to 'em. But in the end, because of their unprofessional service, they went ahead and canceled our service 'cause we didn't pay up.

I paid for trash pick up and recycling pick up. They missed two recycling pick ups and this happened all over our neighborhood. Trying to contact them through their website, telephone, etc. failed. They ain't returning calls.

We moved into a new home in July 2022. We had to call a few times to get our trash cans delivered. Finally, at the end of July, they sent an extra trash can by mistake. We called three times, but each time they said there was nothing in the system. Today, we asked to speak with the manager, and she said that none of our calls were noted, making it seem like we hadn't called.

GFL Environmental took over my trash company, County Waste. I've been making direct payments for a year, but they can't answer my billing questions. I've talked to three different customer service agents, but no calls or emails back, and no resolution. I've even sent my direct pay info via email, but still no contact. To make matters worse, they're not picking up my trash now. They claim I'm 90 days overdue, but I'm all paid up. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Note: This review is about GFL Environmental *** branch. On 5/26, I canceled my service with GFL Environmental for the upcoming quarter. A payment has been made for the next quarter due to automated payment at my bank. GFL stated they will refund my overpayment of $103.50 but never did after 2 months. Also, GFL was supposed to retrieve their trash can. They asked me to take it to the street on service days, and I've been doing that for 9 weeks now, but the can is still not retrieved. I am getting fined by HOA due to the can being left out on the street repeatedly.

This waste and recycling company doesn't come to pick up anyone's trash on time. Sometimes it takes weeks before our trash is picked up. I've called and talked to their front desk, and she talks to me like I'm dumb and really rude. I've seen from the reviews on *** that I'm not the only one experiencing this. People's trash is overflowing or there's trash everywhere because they have nowhere to take it. It's a big problem for the environment here in *** and also a serious public safety and health concern. After all, it's everyone's garbage.

I manage Paramount Heights Condominiums in Lakewood. We've been using GFL for about 3 years. We pay $900 per month for 3 pickups per week for 6 dumpsters. Almost every week, there's some issue and we don't get 3 dumps per week or sometimes they only dump 5 of the 6 dumpsters. I call and complain almost every week to a supervisor. Sometimes we get a credit, sometimes nothing. I expect 3 dumps a week for ALL 6 dumpsters. That's what we're paying for, not sometimes or when the dumpster is half full. I spoke to a supervisor 2 months ago to have a dumpster replaced because the wheel was bad and they didn't dump it because they couldn't move it. It still hasn't been replaced, yet they've been able to dump it since. I'm fed up with this company and its customer service is terrible. The unfortunate thing is that ALL of the trash companies are bad.

My trash collection company has failed to return 12 left voice messages to their billing department in Denver, 1 to Corporate headquarters, along with an email on their online portal/payment system and twice a personal face-to-face request with their very friendly trash truck driver to ask them to call me. They have never returned my messages or email, not written to me, zero contact, and refused to pick up my trash for the last 2+ months, and now have given my account to a collection company and my fee is now more than twice what it was when I was calling them to make a full-year payment since I travel a lot. See the letter to them at their website attached. I want contact, an apology, and want to know what I owe them for when they did pick up my trash and not one cent more. Good riddance to this sloppy company.

None of the private trash providers come on time (and sometimes don't even come for weeks at a time), recycling is just dumped with the trash because the providers aren't taking recycling right now (and haven't been for a while), and trash blows out of all the dumpsters so that there is litter every few steps in the alleys and on the sidewalks. The same broken glass has been on one of our sidewalks for weeks (I know because I carry our--luckily small--dog over that section). The trash situation has truly become a public health hazard. Our property manager is excellent and spends hours of his life each week on the phone with GFL (our provider), in particular. But Waste Connections and Republic seem just as bad at neighboring buildings. Thank you for any assistance.

Trash was last serviced at an *** I manage on December 13. I had a hauler take most of it away at a cost of $1,758.00. I sent many emails and made phone calls to *** to complain. After the hauler I paid took it away, *** showed up on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 6:00pm. Today, the dumpsters are almost full, and the recycle bin is overflowing. The next scheduled day for pickup is Tuesday, January 10, 2023. I think they might not show up again. They didn't pick up on Saturday, January 7, 2023. I want to make sure that *** doesn't get charged for the month of December. I would like *** to reimburse the *** for the extra hauler fee, and I would like them to go back to picking up three times a week as agreed. There was nothing blocking the dumpsters. They didn't give me any reason, every time I called, they just said that a driver would come tomorrow. On January 6, 2023, I went to the *** office and talked to the ***. He promised me that they would pick up that day. I emailed him twice during the day to tell him they didn't come. Finally, at 6:00pm, they picked up the trash. The regular service days are Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. They didn't pick up on Saturday, January 7, 2023. It feels like we're starting all over again.

We had been using the previous service provider for 14 years, and while there were some mistakes, they were always resolved promptly. Our bill for May was fine, and we paid it right away. However, our *** bill was a complete disaster. They claimed to have picked up on days they didn't, and there were triple billing for certain days. I called to complain, and they admitted to many billing errors. They told me to throw away that *** bill and said the corrected one would come with the July bill. When the July bill arrived, it was fine, but the *** issue was not resolved at all. I wrote a letter about *** and sent the payment for July. They processed the payment, but the *** problem persisted. There were duplicated billings for the same date and a new surcharge that we never agreed to. *** still hadn't been resolved. I wrote another letter to dispute the charges and new surcharges for August, stating that I should have been given options to avoid them. In September, I called to cancel all pickups. Then in October, I called to inquire about the dates and the bill for garbage collection, and they said they would call me back. The receptionist asked if *** had been resolved, and I said no. I also mentioned that the August bill was a mess, and she confirmed that there were duplicate charges for pickup and four times the amount for surcharges. The September bill included charges for another pickup and surcharges that we never agreed to or experienced. ***, August, and September bills were all incorrect. I have called and written to them, but there has been no resolution. Now I'm filing complaints to see if something will happen. GFL is a terrible company, and it seems like everyone I know who uses them wishes they had a better option. People are willing to pay a reasonable fee to have their garbage removed, and they expect billing issues to be resolved quickly and responsive customer service. It's really sad and frustrating. I'm submitting this review via iPad, and I don't have the letters or ***, but I can provide them if necessary.
