Gilt's Dishonest Business Practices: A Customer's Frustrating Experience
I recently had a less than satisfactory experience with Gilt. I have been a loyal customer, spending over 10K on their website. However, every time I have had to return an item, I have had to contact customer support because they claim to not have received the return, even though the tracking information clearly shows that it has been received back at Gilt. Each time, I was given a credit with an apology and the explanation that this was not normal.
The last time I had a return, I noticed that there was no tracking information on the labels, nor was the map shown on their site with any tracking. I had a conversation with a representative from Gilt, and it was clear that they were being dishonest. They claimed that they had not received my returns and made me prove that I sent the products back, even though they did not provide me with the tracking details. This was very frustrating and made me feel like they were treating me like an ATM.
I used to be able to track returns that showed they had arrived, but Gilt would not credit back until I contacted them. This is not an isolated issue. I have not had issues with Rue La La or Amazon. I spend a lot of money online, and I have not had issues anywhere else. It is a very shady business practice.
I was disappointed with my experience, and I will be sure to share my experience with other consumers. I write a technology blog, and I will be sharing this conversation in my blog. I hope that Gilt will be more transparent and not treat their consumers like an ATM. Providing a little transparency will do wonders for their shady business.
In conclusion, I will never shop at Gilt again. Their dishonesty and deceit are unacceptable. They contradict themselves multiple times regarding the tracking information, and it is clear that they are not being truthful. I hope that they will take my feedback seriously and make changes to their business practices.
Deceptive Gilt: Selling Fake Gucci Purse as Real - Beware!
Gilt is a website that you should be wary of when making purchases. I had a terrible experience with them when I bought the Gucci Soho Leather purse in "Off White" for $1338.95. The picture of the purse on the Gilt website was the exact same picture that is on the Gucci website. The color on the Gucci website is also referred to as "Off White". However, the purse that I received from Gilt was a Khaki/Putty(?) color and the stitching of the "signature" Gucci "CC" was the same color. I emailed my complaint and pictures of comparison of the two purses to Gilt, but they apparently CAN'T or do not want to see the difference. I requested a refund, but it was denied because it was a "final sale". The purse I purchased is not the one that is pictured on their website. I brought in this Gilt "Gucci" purse to the Gucci store, and they do not sell a color such as the one that Gilt sold me and does not look at all like the "off white" purse that they sell in their store. I contacted Gucci US, and the ONLY websites that are authorized to sell Gucci products are Saks, Bergdorf, Neimans, Nordstrom, and Net-a-Porter. This deception to their customers is shameful. And to say they can't see a difference in the two purses when it's been verified by the Designer themselves is deceitful. Gilt is not an honest company. I am thankful for social media to get the word out there, I've only just begun. What a nightmare, just to save $300, not worth it! Sure wish I would have checked out SiteJabber first. No wonder Gilt has a 39% rating!
I received a response from James, a customer service specialist at Gilt, who did not allow me to return the bag. He stated that they felt the bag I received matched the sale page and that all their items are quality controlled, and they take their own photos of the items. However, I know that the purse Gilt sent me is NOT the purse that is pictured on their website. The khaki/putty color purse Gilt sent me is not even sold in the Gucci store. With the "Off White" purse, it could not be more clearly made with the stitching on the purse. The Gilt purse stitching is the exact same color as the purse. The REAL Gucci purse has the tan contrasting stitching! Gilt is not an authorized Gucci dealer, and they are using Gucci's picture to sell their Gucci Soho Leather Bag in Off White. I will be filing my complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and Amex will be handling this for me hereafter. They have perfect pictures of what Gilt was advertising and what they sent to me. terrible service, tricking customers
10 days ago, I made an order with several handbags, they were in really good prices. I thought it was some kinds of clearance sale, so I spent hours to pick what I want. After placing the order, I received shipment notifications, and bank notice that they charged money. Then, I was expecting to receive this order; however, Gilt is call it back without notify me. When I see the package was delivered back to KY, I called the customer service, they told me it was a technician issue, and they can't give me my order. I feels so bad, they don't respect customers. If they notice me before charge money or even before take it back, I wouldn't feel angry. I'll understand that, but they didn't. I think they deceived me, I'll never trust Gilt anymore. Bad!

The customer representative said he will refund through credit card -- did not happen. I purchased a voucher for Puritans.com, which then in the next hour realized cannot be applied to all Puritan's products and called customer service the very next availability. The representative said he will refund through credit card, which I made sure by asking. He did not do that, and I did not get a notice about this, until I noticed it in my bank statement and callled. He then said it was "policy" that it cannot be refunded. Why can't you said that from the beginning? Also, "policy" is an excuse for not caring for the issue you have.

When purchasing, I didn't notice that the Puritan's Pride voucher could not be used on all brands. I then went on the Puritan's Pride website and it turns out that of that list of 16 brands, a full SIX of them are actually NOT AVAILABLE for sale. I chalked this up to my mistake and managed to cobble together an order, which I placed on Jan 10th at 9:30pm from my home in San Francisco.
The next day, I get an email from Puritan's Pride claiming that my order can't go through because my voucher had expired. True, my voucher expiration was January 10. But I assumed I could use it until the end of that day - what I did not factor in is that Gilt works ONLY on Eastern Standard time. What? So much for being a national service. Both myself and the Puritan's Pride customer service agent have attempted to speak with Gilt and they have refused to reinstate my voucher.
This is the 2nd time this sort of issue has arisen with them. They are hard-lined about returns/refunds no matter what and the customer service people are unfriendly and unhelpful. I will be cancelling my account and warning people against them.

misleading
Two months ago I purchased glasses by oscar de la renta by linda farrow gallery (Acetate tinted round frame) and they arrived damaged.
I was extremely disappointed because the glasses were very expensive and I didn't expect them to pack them in an unsafe way.
Called their customer care, waited for 40 minutes for someone to answer and was said that the glasses can't be returned due to the policies.
I've read the policies and didn't find the glasses among unreturnable products. I don't understand what I am to do and how to get my money back. Very misleading.

very poor quality items
I bought a lot from www.gilt.com but that was then and now things are a lot different. Quality of their products gets worse every year and prices only increase. When I received my latest order I was very disappointed with the quality and how poorly everything was made. I wanted to return everything for a refund but Gilt customer service representative wasn't nice and rejected my request. They said that I will not get a refund and that replacement is also impossible. When I told him that I was very disappointed with their company, he said that if I did not like something I was free to buy elsewhere. Not only quality was terrible, but their Gilt employees need to get some training! Absolutely horrible!

Where do I start! This website is a total scam. They took one picture of the watch and said that it was a man's watch. The picture wasn't even taken from their website they probably got it off of Google images. I finally received the watch that by the way, took FOREVER! And noticed that the band was defective. I tried it on anyway and it didn't fit my wrist! When I called to complain they said "well, it's a unisex watch, it's for men and women".
The customer service was terrible. I was treated very disrespectfully. I wanted to return the watch and they wouldn't take it back. I even had to go as far as to complain with the BBB (better business bureau). So now I'm stuck with a $3, 200.00 watch that has a broken wrist band and doesn't even fit me!

dishonest merchant with pathetic customer service
I purchased an inexpensive canvas from gilt.com. I was shocked when I received the notification that it would take 2.5 to 3 months for the item to ship. I quickly proceeded to contact them and request that the order be cancelled. The response was that given that the item was in their warehouse and was being prepared for shipment, they couldn't cancel the order. Really?!?!? An endless exchange of emails and phone calls back and forth - all indicating that the order cannot be canceled as the item is being prepared to be shipped and that it would arrive in February...3 MONTHS from now! I am unaware of any shipping method in this century that would take this long and yet they would not proceed to cancel the order. That's a very dishonest excuse.
This is the absolute worst experience I have ever encountered from any eCom sites. And to think that a high end retailer like Saks Fifth bought gilt.com is beyond comprehension.
I used to buy from them regularly but I will never transact with them again...ever!

Terrible quality product! Ordered a dress from www.gilt.com and when it arrived I was amazed with how cool it looked. That day I was supposed to go to a party so I decided to wear my new dress. I put on the dress and tried to pull the zipper but it was stuck! Pulled again and it broke.
Contacted customer service, explained what happened and asked for a replacement. They refused to replace it or to refund my money! They said it was my fault! Totally disgusted with Gilt! I'm not buying anything from them again!

Shopping on Gilt.com used to be a wonderful experience, both in terms of pricing and customer service. However, over the last one year, its has become from bad to worse. I experienced this atleast twice where they refused to resolve the complaint inspite of admitting their fault as per their 'policy' or 'techinical reasons':
1. I had an international shipment and they charged me in local currency instead of USD although i selected USD as the payment currency in the order screen. This would not be an issue, if they hadnt charged me 8% EXTRA without any reason any REFUSED to refund as the order had been 'placed'.
2. Recently, i placed another international shipping order for 7 items. Because of custom rules, one item could not be shipped internationally (which was NOT menioned jn item description). Weirdly enough, Gilt cancelled the ENTIRE order without ever asking me for a US addres which i could have easily provided, or cancel the ONE item which could not be shipped internationally. Worse, when i wanted to place the order again without the restricted item, 3 of my 7 purchases were UNAVAILABLE ...!

discount code never worked
I have ordered something from Gilt website in the past and everything was fine. Recently I received a message from them saying 40% off! So I went to their website and made a huge order!
When I was purchasing the items, I entered the code and everything seemed ok, but then I checked my bank statement and found out 40% off was never applied!
I immediately contacted them and asked what was going on. They said that I had only three hours to use the code. What? I opened their email again and there was absolutely nothing mentioned about 3 hours! So I decided to warn other customers, don't believe them and don't use these codes! I did receive my items and everything was ok, but I wasted more than I expected! I'm very disappointed!

I ordered a pair of leather shoes from Gilt. I received my order in reasonable time, but in the end I was very disappointed. I thought I paid for nice shoes, but actually I spent my money on garbage. I worn them only two times and they fell apart! I did not wear these very often so I didn't realize the defect in their time period. The dresses I received looked similar, they were the same style, but they were too long and there was nothing mentioned in the description about the atypical length. But they just ignored me and never replied. Do not order anything from this awful company!

I bought a very expensive bag and paid extra for rush delivery. When it arrived it had strange stains inside. There also were scratches on the leather. Actually Gilt advertised as a discount website with limited quantities and sizes. I thought that Gilt sells only original items, but the bag I received looked used. Furthermore, my item arrived in a plastic bag without a box! This was supposed to be a present, but it's horrible condition make it impossible to gift it. I contacted them asking a refund and have included pictures as a proof. But they never answered. It's a big shame and I hope they will be out of business soon. Don't order anything from Gilt.
poor, slick customer service policies
I have spent over $32, 000 on Gilt.com and earned 68, 000 insider points. Gilt has a fine print policy that you lose your points (in this case equivalent to $200) if you fail to make a purchase within 6 months. They do not inform you of this policy and embed the notice of point expiration in a way that is very hard to see amidst the hundreds of emails you receive from them a month. After calling them 7 days after the point expiration, they offered me a special discount of 30% off an order up to $75 cap. I will never shop on Gilt.com again.

I have purchased many products thru my gilt app on my computer with no problems in the past but when I made a high dollar purchase ($454) for a freshology food delivery order I never received the voucher that is supposed to be sent back to you right after your purchase. I sent an email questioning this on a couple occasions and they told me how to update my email however there app does not allow you to do this feature which caused even more confusion. I didn't understand why all my past purchases through this app worked out fine but not this time. The deal was also about to expire so after emailing and Speaking with a rep they stated to me this is a problem they are aware of and often happens with others. It seems their app is not fully functioning or capable. Well then shouldn't this problem be fixed? The order I made specifically stated one purchase per member and since I never received the voucher and the item was going to expire I tried doing it again since it sounded like a mechanical error and I was told their system would flag it if you tried to buy more than one item since it was not allowed. I saw on my monthly credit bill I got charged for two purchases of $454. I only received the true voucher once I was told to log off my app and log in to their website to update my email. (Again, I have made many purchases in the past and never had to do this before). The rep confirmed that the FIRST emailed voucher never went through so she made a screen shot picture of it and forwarded it to me when it was already to late, now I'm stuck with two vouchers, one which is a screenshot from their end, how sketchy that is just by itself. This is all very confusing and obviously I called themto explain this sounds like a technical error, primarily due to their insufficent working app. I requested a refund and they refused. I explained I have been a valuable and constant customer to them and their own rules stated one purchase per person- not TWO! The freshology company states its one voucher per person as well- do they really expect me to just be out $454?! I then asked to speak with a supervisor and she stated because I had two emails I am technically two people so their one item per person does not apply since I am two people now- huh? I told her that both purchases had the same name, credit card number and address and that I am indeed one person, not two. The only reason I did anything with my email is because I never received my receipt for the first purchase. She just did not want to refund me. I gave her a chance to rectify this error but she refused so I told her I would be filing complaints and stopping my credit card charge while they investigate. It is sad because this is so obviously a technical error and if they had any customer service at all they could have easily rectified the situation and kept a loyal customer. Instead I am going through all the extra work of filing complaints against them. Beware- they only care about their bottom line and have no customer service. I will no longer be making any purchase in the future with them again!

I sent them tons of emails, but they avoided me. When I tried to remove my email address from their list, they also ignored me. But they continued to provide some useless emails and spam. The worst attitude and completely unhelpful team.

they overcharged me for the products
I ordered several products from the company www.giltcity.com. I needed to pay only for postage and handling and the total sum was about $12.89. After that I got the order and invoice, where it was mentioned that my order cost about $209. I checked my account and found out that this sum was taken from me. It was scam. They are liars and scammers, and I want to find other deceived customers, who lost money. Please we need to stop this company and return our money. Post your comments.
the worst online shopping experience on earth
The worst online shopping experience on earth. They did some kind of restaurant coupon that I bought. Not only was I not able to redeem it (the restaurant said Gilt had messed up their coupon codes; random ones were working and others weren't) but when I went back to Gilt they basically told me to go back to the restaurant and try it again! When I asked them what backup plan was there to prevent me from wasting a trip they basically said none; and then to make it even worse they said their records show that the coupon had been redeemed (I haven't been back!). Everyone makes mistakes but what is inexcusable is to not step up to the plate and make amends when you've ****ed up. Hate 'em!
I get email teasers where almost everything is sold out. Why bother to put it on if it's not available. Do not recommend unless all you want to do is look online.

So annoying! They guaranteed a gift by Christmas and they also guarantee a 24 response policy to customer service emails. When I placed an order a week and a half before Christmas, I did so expecting to have no issues with the delivery, given it was guaranteed by 12/24. However the package did not arrive by 12/24, which I knew would happen when on 12/20 the tracking information said it would arrive by 12/27. I contacted Gilt, and after 48 hours still didn't hear from them, so had to contact them again. And they finally responded saying no, it should get there by 12/24. 12/24 came and went with no package delivery, so I contacted Gilt again. They agreed to refund my nominal shipping fee but never once apologized or offered any explanation as to why I didn't receive my package as promised. Don't use Gilt! Their deals are not worth the tremendous headache and poor customer service.
