HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com products scam

I have quit my membership to this scam of an organization. THey have an escalating program where they send products that you do not request and expect payment. Its start with books, then videos and now has escalated to expensive router bits. They make it easy for you to send back however they say they never receive the merchandise back and then hound you with bills. Please stay away from this organization.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com take double payments freom my bank account

I became a lifetime member of Handyman club of America and have nothing but problems with them since the beginning but have tried to stick it out. But recently was the last straw when I made an online payment as I always due for my monthly membership and the book I received and the amount came to $61.89 and thats what they said. When I later the next day checked my bank account they had taken out 2 months dues so I called them and they said they would refund me the 1 months dues it would be there in 3 buisness days. So I checked in 4 days and it was there but then I say they double charged me for the book the next day slao after I had talked to them an additional $33 and change. How they can not notice they charged me for the same book twice on the same day is beyond me. This has been an ongoing battle with them since joining back on August 27th 2010 when they said I owed membership dues from august 1st when I didnt become a member till august 27th therefore making all my membership payments late because I refused to pay the first one I didnt owe. ALL I CAN SAY IS BUYER BEWARE I am now cancelling my subscription I cant take it anymore.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com fraud / scams false advertising

I purchased a lifetime membership with Handyman Club of America. They said I would be able to test products and keep the product. I have yet to receive a single product to test.. Instead, I get junk mail from all kinds of "CLUBS" wanting me to join, everything from gardening, fishing, and other handyman clubs. It is apparent that Handyman Club of America sold my information. All I keep getting is more offers to be a "extra special" life member and an extra special, special hand shake, sugar on top life member, etc.. (You get my point) I have NEVER received an item to test EVER! What a crock of bull they try to feed people. I just got off the phone with some jewelry company that is selling trash through HCofA. I'm tired of all this and want what I've paid for! (Like I have a snowballs chance in hell of getting it!) Please feel free to contact me about this at any time. Rob [protected]@yahoo.com

I also have sent in my complaints. This seems to be a large SCAMMing Company & from reading all the comments in this field they seem to keep getting away with it. Is there a way to start a LAW Suit against them. Our Govenors or Attn Generals seem to be able to stop them or don't want to get involved.

I also subscribed for $24 but never received the bucket tool holder or screw extractor that were promised. I did receive their mediocre magazine, a return of my $24 if I agree to a lifetime membership @ $64/month for 12 months and a request to pay for or return a book I never ordered or received. This company is a downright fraud.

They told me I owed 10$ for the first book. I thought that was'nt bad so I sent the money and so they sent me another book, decks and whatever wanting 29.98. I sent them a message telling them I do not want anything ever from them and they continue to harrass me for money.
I just want them to forget that I exist.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com return book

I was sent a booklet to "evaluate I guess" and I did not order it but was billed. I was sent a return merchandise label but I do not know which book to return. It is not mentionmed in the letter I received.
I called the toll free number and was put on hold for over 7 minutes with no answer.
They should tell me in their letter which book I am to return.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com money-back guarantee

After receiving and trying a subscription to Handyman Club of America I decided to use my "Monsy-Back Guarantee" option offered by the Magazine. After two months of waiting for my refund. I called Handyman again and they stated that it will take another six to eight weeks for them to look into the matter. I believe this to be a ripp off. I will repost after six to eight weeks.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com un-requested material

Here we are almost 2 months into the new year, and un-announced, un-wanted, un-requested a "FREE GIFT" arrives with a $16.98 bill attached. What is it? The 2010 Route 66 Calendar. What does a scenic calendar, of Route 66, with 1/6th of the year over, have to do with home/professional projects? I bought the membership, I bought the books (more out hassle in sending them back than any useful value), and I even bought the life membership with the mistaken hope of product trials.

I accept the responsibility in paying the dues, and following this piper down the road. At the end of the road is a garbage pit filled with useless books, expensive calendars, empty promises. The only redeeming quality this club offers at all, is a marginally acceptable magazine. That ended today. At least I won't have anything else coming my way ever again.

As they said in the movie A Bugs Life, "Don't go into the light"...zzzzzzzzpt

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com club membership unrecognized

I am a lifetime member and my number is [protected] 4 # DY. I continue to get invitations to join the Lifetime membership and again offered all the wonderful tool I was promised the first time. I am a member and have not seen any tools to try and keep as they advertise. Why would I need a second life time membership I haven't died. My current magazine address label reads:

Now that is what the label looks like. Where are all the test tools and benefits I am suppose to get? Please quit inviting me to get a life membership I already have a useless one.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com rip off company scam!!!

Stay away from this company and their "enticing offers". They are all a scam!

Their guarantee is totally worthless! They will continue to send you bills and have their collection agency hassle you into paying when you have a $0.00 balance!

If you have been suckered into this club, and you are receiving books even though you have cancelled your membership... Do not use the postage paid address sticker. Pay for the shipping and ship it certified with delivery confirmation, so you have proof they have received the book. Otherwise, you will receive bills for the rest of your life and harassing phone calls.

Again, stay away from handyman club of america - they are a number one scam!

I recieved a router bit set and case that I never asked for, I returned the item and paid for shipping out of my own pocket for almost $12.00 to return the item, and handyman club has said they have recieved the item back and they still have not taken the $44.98 they claim I owe them off the account. It does no good to email these jokers, they just give some line of ###.
DO NOT JOIN OR ACCEPT ANY THING FROM THIS so called club! You will be sorry if you do. They claim you will receieve free tools, what a damn joke, a plastic ruler from dollar tree would be better.

Dear Friends of Mine, I clearly became a victim of fraud form the "Handymen Club of America". In an envelope labeled "Free gift inside" they sent me an unsolicited junk calendar for 2009 (you know, the type that companies usually send you for free). When I opened the envelope, in it were the calendar, a few junk sticker and an invoice for $21.99 ($16.99...

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com unauthorized membership billing

My 81-year old aunt received a "dues invoice" from Handyman Club of America for $24 stating YOUR PAYMENT IS PAST DUE. It said "Thank you for activating you membership." There is no contact number on the invoice, nor on their website. Fortunately I found it on your website and called them. I was told that the membership had been activated online. My aunt does not even have a computer!

Unfortunately my aunt has been the victim of several scams in the past and now seems to be on a "sucker list." She gets literally hundreds of "offers" in the mail and it is virtually impossible to stop this avalanch of solicitations from predators.

All I paid for was the magazine subscription. Now, they have sent me a letter saying that I need to pay for, or return a book. I never ordered any book, nor did I receive a book. I am going to try to go to handyman website and email them. Not only that, I was informed that if you receive something you did not order, even if you get the magazine, it is yours and you are not liable for any payment. I did not sign up for any tool library and don't need it. Again, I never received any book from them. They are very lacking in their bookkeeping area, or someone is pinching money. I will never order a magazine from them again. Come to think of it, I have only received one magazine, but paid for a full subscription. Wish someone would put a nail in their coffin. LOL!

Many months later I get a letter saying I had to pay for a 2 year subscription or they would turn my case over to a collection agency. After investigating Irealized that my subscription stopped in May and I heared nothing untill I got the letter about the collection bit.checking back I found out that my membership was good until May 2008 when I recieved the last issue of Handy. They waited until the end of Nov to send me that letter. I was a member of Handyman Club and they must have sold my information, because I was pounded with e-mails and junk mail to no end. Then I started getting 5 pages of junk from them on being a life member and getting all those tools. It wasn't till the last page that it was going to cost you 29.00 for 14 months or something like that. My friend joined and it took over 9 months for him to receive his free gift. I just got a issue in the mail last that I did not suscribe to and this week I got a bill. I do not want to be a member or receiveyour magazine. I want a postage paid label so I can return the magazine to them. TEG

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com false collection referral notice

I have no idea who this company is, but a threatening letter arrived today saying that this was their 6th attempt to contact me regarding an overdue membership account, and that if action was not taken to settle this account a Collections Agency would be contacting me.

Again, I don't know who these people are. Their information does not include any contact information beyond a PO Box Number.

I searched the net and found a parent company for them ( North American Membership Group). Calling them resulted in being referred to another number [protected] to 'cancel' my subscription. I never had a subscription to start with.

This very awful, threatening (collection letter) happened to us. The Handyman Club of America said they "cleared the way" for us to take advantage of a vast array of other benefits, many of which represent substantial privileges that cost a significant amount of money to provide. We know of no such offers!

Robert Masters, Credit manager, said he was forwarded our records by his Membership Director and said that we had not paid for our benefits in the Handyman Club of America! We have to pay the school in advance before they even place an order!

We are retired and have paid our bills on time. We purchased Handyman Magazine through our grandaughter's school fund-raiser last year. We do not re-new any of them until the school has it's annual fund-raiser. We have asked the PTO and the School Board to look carefully into this horrible Magazine ordering project.

I also seem to be having difficulty with trying to communicate via the internet. I contacted someone via phone 3-4 months ago and explained that I regretfully had to cancel membership due to financial difficulties and was informed that if and when I was able I could contact them again in the future. I keep receiving notices and now I'm also receiving a bill for a product I returned. I am now trying to contact them via internet but am being blocked fro ability to send a message. If there is a suggestion on how to proceed, I sure would like to know.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com I got a &collection referral notice

I signed up for Handyman Club of America Member ([protected]). I never received anything from them. Now they send me a statement for $24, 2 year membership. It came from the Office of the Treasurer and says, (Collection Referral Notice. I wanted to call them and settle this, to get away from them. There is no phone number or web site on the bill. I find this odd. What should I do?

Thank Manuel Fernandez.

I just received the same letter yesterday telling me that they were going to turn my name over to their collection division. It says that they sent me a Handy magazine and a full membership kit of some kind when in fact the only things at all i ever received from them was (4) different monthly billing statements for $24.00 dollars. The people at this company must be nuts thinking they can just start threatening people tp pay them for nothing at all.I'm going to keep watching here to see how many more people they try to completely screw over for something they never received.

On several occasions I mailed in my comments to you and I still receive a bill for a calendar that I did not receive. I do not open my mail since I have Lou Gehrig's Disease better know as ALS and since I never requested that you send me said calendar and still you keep sending bills out. I have ask your company not to send anything out unless I request it by signing the normal order form that you send out. I guess this another way to rip someone off. Attachments will be mailed to your company of the complaints I have submitted over 96 days ago plus I already mailed my statement before. How many ways can I state that I did not and do not want any item mailed to me unless I REQUEST IT.I would say thank you but you haven't even addressed my past e-mails.

I recieved a bill for a calendar I did not recieve and I would hope that you do not send me one. MY member #[protected]. From now on if you send items out to purchase and feel that the best way is to just send things out and hoping the party recieves it without requesting the member if he or she would like to purchase the item first prior to you sending items out in the mail hoping that you make a sale is wrong.PLEASE do not ever send me something with out my prior approvel.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com has not followed thru on supplies

I join the handyman club almost two years ago, I joined the life time club. Thinking that it would pay off. Just the opposite. It is just like i don't even belong to anything. I've called in at lease twice a month to be put on the list for trying other items and never received a thing to try. Could someone tell me is this company still in business. I might get a magazine once in a while. If i don't hear some thing within the next couple of weeks i will call the state Attorney office to see if he can help me get an answer. I will do that 8/11/08.

HandyMan Club of America / Scout.com unlawful harassment

I made the mistake of subscribing to the Handyman Club of America. They promised all kinds of things for free but at best they were trinkets! I paid them on August 3rd, 2007 $12 via VISA credit card. Within days, I got a letter thanking me for agreeing to a life-time subscription. I have made more than a dozen calls each time I was told that I would not receive any more invoices.

Soon after I started to receive collection calls. I kept repeating myself with all of the above, yet the calls and letters kept coming. Finally, last night, June 18th, 2008 (less than one year from the time of my $12 payment for one year) I got another call from someone claiming to calling about the Handyman Club debt. I have caller ID and the telephone number [protected] which is located in upstate NY.

When I called the number a recording came on and told me that the I have been forwarded to voice mail and that the person at that number is "unavailable". Then the message comes on that says that the "mail box is full" and cannot accept any other messages.

A friend of mine is an attorney and he called Handyman and after being placed on hold for about 40 minutes spoke to a woman by the name of Wendy. Wendy said that she wasn't the person to speak to and that if my friend held on, she would get someone. Being on hold for over an hour, Wendy came back and said that if my friend held on some more she "might be able to find someone to talk to him". My friend, acting in my behalf told her that he would wait five more minutes. Seven minutes passed and she never got back on the line so he hung up.

Based upon my searching the Internet I found posts that a company called RETRIEVAL MASTERS CREDITORS a/k/a RETRIEVAL MASTERS CREDITORS BUREAU INC a/k/a AMERICAN MEDICAL COLLECTION AGENCY located at 2269 Saw Mill River Rd, # G1, Elmsford NY [protected], [protected], [protected], has at some point handled collections for Handyman.

I spoke to a man who identified himself as the "Chief Operating Officer" who acknowledged that his firm did and continues to do collections for Handyman. I gave him my name and he stated that my "account is not placed with his company". I then asked him if to his knowledge any other company was handling the collections for Handyman and he replied in the negative.

I then sent Handyman an email advising them that should I be contacted in any manner I would sue! Within 2 hours I received another call, this time from a woman who refused to give her name, refused to say whether or not she worked directly for Handyman or a debt collection agency. The caller ID information for her call said "RESTRICTED".

I plan to follow through and file complaints with the attorney general in my state (VT) as well as in MN where Handyman is located. It should be noted that the parent company of Handyman has many different "clubs" that all apparently operate under the same modus operant of making offers for merchandise, but providing at best "trinkets".

I recommend that anyone else having a problem contact me at [protected]@yahoo.com because I have an attorney willing and able to bring a class action lawsuit against these fraudulent companies!

To whom this may concern, I have reviewed a numbers of complaints, some of them were pretty inaccurate in their statements! I, too was a victim of fraudulent by Handyman Club of America, I have paid all dues and met all my obligations however I have not received all of the items that were promised to me over the phone and I had been insistent over the items ever since the fall of 2008 and failed to get satisfaction of their answers as to why they have not kept their promises, well, I may as well say good bye to all of monies that were paid of over $500 including books and few tools that were sent to me were overstated of their values of which one can purchase for much lower like at Harbor Freight, etc. I have received numbers of untested tools because I have no other means to testthem without those tools that were supposed to come first such as router then router bits afterward and cordless drill then drills bits, etc. I am 78 years old and very much active in woodworking projects also have array of tools to use but they are of 1950! I received a letter (BILL) threatening me with sending the bill to a collection company for $34.00 for a 2 year membership. Only one problem I never heard of the Handyman Club of America. I called the phone number talk to a lady on the phone who said they buy mailing lists. Then she started going thru her sales pitch about the company and wanting to send me a free magazine so I could check out what they have to offer. So I said, why would I want anything from you after you sent me a threatening letter that you r going to send me to collection for something I never signed up for. I ask are you crazy!? I said what I want is you to disappear and never send me anything again. Don’t cal me nothing! She immediately started closing my account (so she said). I told her I am keeping this letter and marking all this down.

Bottom line is they are buying mailing lists and sending out threatening letters for collection. They are committing fraud to get you to send them money.

I, too, have fallen victom to this fraudulent, bogus, so called company. Just today I received a letter marked "DELINQUENT" in big bold letters. I do not know where the hell this company got my name and address. I have not joined any clubs nor would I ever. This letter today does have an 800 number at the right hand corner that appears to have been typed in afterwards. It is barely legible. I called the number and never got thru to a human. I work very hard for my money and I pay the bills I truly owe. They can threaten me all they want to, I will never pay them one single cent! Has a matter of fact, I feel they owe me for all the threats and aggrevation they continually cause me. From what I have read from other victoms, this company is relentless and will not quit. Let's all join together and fight this bogus company and their illegal practices.
