Herzing University review: Did not provide education promised 4

I toured the Herzing University in Brookfield WI. At that time I thanked them for their time but explained they were just too far to travel every day (almost 2 hours total). I left a few days later I was asked to come back for another meeting. My husband and I did so. I was told about their online program. I again declined. I explained I was a woman in my late 40s with very little computer knowledge. I felt I needed a class room setting so I could have access to a professor when needed. I was told that was not a problem. I was told they have several tutoring options; I would have several contacts right at the campus that would "basically walk me through any trouble ". I accepted and began my courses to earn my diploma in payroll, bookkeeping accounting. I asked several times before week one if I was all set to go. I even brought my laptop to the campus to make certain I had everything I needed. I was told I was set to go. Week one my teacher was talking about APA word, things like that. I had no idea what she meant. I called her she was wonderful she sat on the phone with me and then said sweetie you don’t have Microsoft office do you? I said I don’t think so. So I called Herzing they said oh ok come get a copy. A program I believe I was billed a few hundred dollars for. I went to get it. I again took my laptop. I wanted to make sure it downloaded correctly. I was put at a desk in the hall, then a man came out took a glance at my LT and said ok your good to go. In the mean time in my other class I could not make heads or tails, and then I discovered I was given the wrong book. So my husband took back the book I was given and got me a new one. By then it was Wednesday. I was still having problems with word. I called the campus and once again I was told to come back down. They sold me a used, corrupt disc. Finally I got the right one and stayed up till almost 3 am two nights in a row so I could get everything handed in. The next week we had one chapter after another just thrown at us. I made a comment on one of our discussing boards about how they were pushing us through all this information. I received a dozen messages from fellow students saying they were so lost and could not get help. This is how it continued the entire time. I completed the semester and made the Dean’s list. However if you asked me what I learned without providing examples or allowing me to use my notes I would not have a clue. They threw so much at us at once it was a jumbled mess. I called the school for help. I got a response almost a week later. I retook Acct. I at my request. The rest of the courses were the same. In one business math class we were given 10 math concepts in one week alone. They did provide examples and they also had it set up if we got the answer wrong it would tell us. They made it so we could get a good grade for the week but not really learn anything. A month before my graduation the Dean contacted me and said he was just made aware I had concerns. I said yes I have and explained I didn’t even know how to type yet here I am ready to go out and get a job in my field. He explained they assumed I knew how to type. I explained I had expressed my concerns at the beginning of school. He then quickly threw me in a keyboarding class. A class that I needed to know how to type 30 WPM just to begin. This school cut every corner possible to get use students out the door and get the next group in. A program through my ex employer paid every cent. A little under 15, 000 for a 10 month diploma. One of my last courses was preparing for the work force. They had us make a resume using our diplomas and degrees as a focus. I was told while applying for jobs maybe I should not use mine since I do not have the knowledge needed to perform those jobs. I have begged Herzing for help. I was told I could come down for tutoring on Wednesday nights. If I was the first one there I would get the tutor. Well I wasn’t the first so it was a waste of time. I would honestly beg for help and it would take days even over a week before I got a reply. I was offered very little help after the fact. I was told they were going through some staffing issues. That is sad but it didn’t help me. I even have copies of messages from one of my instructors that asked if she could use me as an example when she met with her chair. She said so many good students are leaving because far too much material is being given in too short a time .She stated they wanted her to teach in 7 weeks what she use to teach at other schools in 12 or 14. She said every time she brought it up Herzing shot it down. I graduated Dec. 22 and I cannot even pass an interview exam. There were so many thing not taught or was told but not given the time to master. I was made numerous promises before I attended Herzing not one of them was met. When I meet with the dean of my campus he said the courses I took weren’t really supposed to teach me those fields just give me some idea of them. That is not what their own mission statement reads. He also said it is not the responsibility of Herzing to make sure we learn the material they are just there to hand out books and such. Yet the $15, 000 went to them. I have since begged them to let me meet with someone at the campus (which is what I have been asking for almost a year) Just so I can get some one on one and learn the material so my degree would be useful. I said if not I would have to try to get my tuition back so I could attend a different college. I was told I needed to have my attorney contact them. So they are cocky enough to say we won’t stand behind our promises and if you try to force us we will make you pay for it. In my opinion this is the worst decision I have ever made. It was a waste of time and money. Here it is over a year later and I am no closer to being a payroll, bookkeeper of entry level accountant. In my opinion this is a lazy, corner cutting school whose ONLY concern is getting the money . Please understand I am not blaming them for the economy. I am blaming them for not providing the education promised. I have had two interviews in my field but the lack of education given to me by Herzing was the only reason I did not get the job. I received a near perfect GPA my attendance exceeded the required amount. All work was completed and handed in on time. All tuition was paid on time in full; I double the amount of post per week. I got nothing but compliments from instructors.
