home warranty
We have had a terrible experience with HSA Home Warranty. This is very poorly run company, no effective way to process complaints about poor subs they sent us. The 1st air conditioner repair company they sent couldn't figure out the problem, after I complained multiple times, they finally sent a different company and it was just a simple leak in the coolant line. But the total time for this to be fixed took over 3 months in the HOT Phoenix heat! The AC company that did finally fix the problem made an appointment, then no showed/no called SIX times! Their subs are very incompetent and RUDE. 2 different subs complained about what a terrible company they are to work with. For me to call them to complain, I had to wait on hold 40-60 minutes! I have owned previous homes with other warranty companies and never had these problems. I truly regret having bought a home warranty through HSA as our second ac has stopped working and am going through the same headache and it has been 6 weeks now and still is not fixed.
warranty
I have been with HSA for 4 years now. They have previous replaced my stove and garbage disposal, and although it was a slight pain to get those replaced, they are nothing in comparison to this latest issue. It in winter in Pittsburgh, it is cold. My furnace his broken. I've been fighting with HSA for over a week to get a replacement. The technician that came out has red tagged it and it is not able to be fixed, it needs replaced. I'm now on hold for the 8th time in over a week... for over 40 minutes (I am not kidding). HSA is claiming there's $1800 in work they will not cover, and they are claiming they may NOT even be able to replace the unit since it's "so old" and no longer made. I should be provided with a unit that is currently legal (even at the lowest grade possible). Some of the $1800 in work they are claiming they do not cover is clearly stated as covered in the contract, such as duct work, electrical work related to fuses, switches, and power to major electrical units. They also are claiming I need to purchase a permit. A quick call to my borough has proved that wrong. Since I have no heat, and therefore no water since the pipes would freeze, my dog and I are homeless. I've been fortunate enough to be able to afford a hotel for now, but I feel that I should not HAVE to do that when I have paid a home warranty company for a piece of mind in case of this very thing. I do not mind having to find a place to stay for a few days, but when they will not even give me a STRAIGHT answer on what they plan to do or a timeline on when I will be able to move forward with getting it replaced, I am left in the dark... They have absolutely no care for the fact that I'm homeless and will not provide me a timeline on when they think they will know if they are going to be able to assist me in having this issue taken care of. This company is a complete scam, do NOT purchase anything from them. I will be contacting the BBB and attorney general, as well as a lawyer if they refuse to replace the unit/settle a cash sum (which at this point, I would prefer).
don't even try because you will regret it
Our kitchen sink is not draining and the pipe is leaking, we filed a claim: a plumber showed up but didn't do anything because he needed authorization to work according to him. We didn't hear from both HSA nor the plumbing company for two weeks, the next thing we got from hsa was a bill. I called them to ask why they sent a bill without doing the work and they told me "sorry we don't cover improper installation'" I called another plumbing company who told me that nothing was wrong with the installation. This is the second claim with them and they denied both, in fact we ended up paying the vendors for walking Through our door. Hsa will find any reason to denial your claim. They are street robbers.
washer replacement
I have had a HSA home warranty policy since 2013. It came with the house. I put in a claim on my dryer and they came on [protected].. They looked at it and took out heating element out and put it back. It worked. The washer started to be very noisy when it was spinning so I put in a claim on the washer on August 22, 2015. I asked for the same repair people since the dryer was not working on all heating settings and he was coming back on the dryer. This same service company has been here on [protected] about the dryer They sent the same company. He said the bearings were going out of the washer and it was not worth repairing and they would replace. I have an over size tub in the Amana that they are replacing. I gave them all the info about the washer and they called back and told me to go to the GE website and gave me a Model # to look up. It was a 3.8 tub capacity and mine was larger that that. She argued with me about it and read me a section of the policy and it said the word capacity and they were to match it if possible. I ask to speak to a supervisor and she said it would not make a difference they would not change it. She said she would transfer me to one, but that I would have to leave a message with all the details and they would research it and call me back.
Of course they offered me a buyout as they call it of $536.07. I looked at the washer on line and it was $600. I ask her about it and she said well they give them a discount because they have an account with GE. So I went to Lowes and bought a washer for $644. I will have to eat the additional cost because they will not honor their policy
I was an insurance agent for 30 years and I have read lots and lots of policy language. I do know a little about how to interpret policy language. The girl who read me the policy language was probably very young and had not a clue what she read.
When you call them I ALWAYS have to hold for at least 20 minutes and then they transfer you an I have to hold for another 10 to 15 minutes before I get to talk to a person who can help me. I put a new claim in on the computer as they wanted everyone to do, I sent them an e mail and ask it they could send out the same people who came about the washer and I am yet to hear about that. That was on [protected] and I have yet to hear if they have said yes or no. They first said Sears would come and I sent a request for the same man to come back since he was coming back to put a part on my dryer. If they are just repairing the appliance it seems they don't do give you much hassle, but when they replace your appliance that is where they cheat you big time.
Along in the summer we our attic fan that is part of the AC unit in the attic quick working. A young man came and did something and it worked. He then showed my husband a picture of the coils and said they really, really needed cleaning and that would cost about $250 to $350 and could not be done till it cooled off. I understand that. I just wanted a 2nd opinion since I did not know this man form Adam. I called a friend who has done a lot of work for us and also owns a heating and cooling business and construction business for many year . He showed us a photo of the coils and it was not the same photo the other man showed my husband and our friend said they did not need to be cleaned. I called HSA and she listened to the story and made a very sharp remark "well what do you want me do to about it". I told her I thought they should know about it. She said well you have told us.
Overall service I would only give them maybe a 4. If they repair your appliance maybe a 6, but if they replace your unit I would give them a 2 probably. They are very, very FLUSTERATING to deal with on replacement items especially.
won't help you with claims
HSA uses unethical, illegal business practices to try and avoid paying out claims to homeowners. We reported to HSA that our air conditioner wasn't working the first week of June. They didn't send anyone out until June 8. Then, they say they didn't order a new unit until June 12. It is now June 22nd and we have yet to get a call from HSA letting us know whether the unit will arrive to the HVAC company. They won't return calls, and when you try to call their 1800 number, you are on hold for hours. I started taking screen shots of how long I was on hold. The last call, i was on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes before someone picked up the phone. I asked them why the hold times are so long, especially since people have been complaining about this for years. The representative claimed they hired more people and need to wait for them to be trained. I just don't believe them. they are happy to take your cal when you're purchasing a warranty, but good luck trying to make a claim when something breaks. The temperatures have been in the 90s for all of June and our house is unlivable. HSA says they don't have tracking numbers and can't tell us when the unit will arrive. Again, I call BS. What company wouldn't keep track of products that they order? I called two different HVAC companies that said when they order from carrier, they get the units in 24 hours. HSA purposefully delays orders to short cut the customer, make claims go away and dissuade you from ever making a claim again. STAY AWAY FROM HSA HOME WARRANTY!
scam
Scam alert! This "company" is the worst rip - off ever. Please do not give these horrible, rude, nasty people your money! They will take it and run!
I paid $1, 000 for a 1 - year warranty. It was very easy to reach someone to buy the policy. In fact, when i didn't purchase it right away they called me! They sent me a letter! Because they wanted the sale. After i gave them $1, 000 it became nearly impossible to reach anyone to make a claim. You have to hold close to an hour to get a live person some of the time, and even then they will often transfer you to someone else and you start holding all over again. I have now paid more than $1500 out of my pocket for a repair that has still not been completed because their "repair person" claims it is one thing, but the 4 other professionals (All unrelated and from different local companies) said it is something else upon which they all agree. Four neutral opinions agree, the hsa repair person does not. 4 against 1 against hsa but hsa won't budge, they won't answer the phone, and you have no other way to reach them than the main number. Please don't waste your money on this scam.
non coverage, incompetent tech
HSA sent a tech to look at our furnace, as requested, after the home inspector advised the heat exchanger was cracked. The HSA tech said, no, it isn't cracked, but an Inductor Relay needs to be replaced. Ok, fine. After repeated calls and emails and no response from July to October, we called another tech. I don't want that HSA approved ### in my house again. The 2nd tech confirms, yes, the Inductor Relay needs to be replaced, as well as the drain nipple on the secondary heat exchanger. The drain nipple part if not repaired will cause water to drip into the furnace. The part also costs $500, plus labor, which makes it not really worth fixing on a 26 year old furnace. HSA will not honor this claim, nor will send a competent tech to perform the work. Our only comfort is at least the ###head seller paid for the warranty and not us. And no, we will not be renewing coverage. For what reason? HSA doesn't honor any claims. Disgusting. And don't even get me started on the ###ed up electrical in the house. It needs an upgrade, and needs the existing circuits separated and brought up to code - total cost estimate from a competent electrician we paid out of pocket for (again, don't want HSA people in our house after the previous performances put on by their lazy techs) - is $4600. Yippee. Yet more money out of our pocket when we've already put $10, 000 into the house since closing on it in July, and that is on top of our $40, 000 down payment.

warranty dispute
I just bought a home and this warranty was already attached. I pay 455.00 premium and had to pay 100.00 trade call fee, just to have them confirm what I already knew, my water heater was cracked and leaking all over my basement floor. When you buy a warranty you buy it with the thinking that after your premium is met if covered product becomes damaged with a small fee the damaged product will be repaired or replaced. Well I get informed by HSA that I now owe 691.50 on top of the 100.00 that I have already paid. There are charges in there that shouldn't have even been an issue, example, they are charging me a drip pan fee and I have a drain I wouldn't need a drip pan, and then they are charging me a fee for a flue and in my warranty it clearly states that a flue is covered. I spoke with 3 different people at HSA addressing my concern with the fee and questioning why I even have to pay any more money out of pocket, so then asked for a second opinion, they informed me that they were not going to send out someone for a second opinion but I can take a pay out of 500.00...so they don't even want to give me the amount that they expect me to pay for the tech / company they sent out to do the job. So...Buyer beware.
terrible
This company is horrible. I've had them for years and I've finally had enough. I had multiple drain problems and their contractors could not fix the problems because they were lazy worthless pieces of crap. Had to hire my own company and they did the job right the first time. Poor customer service, poor contractors, poor home coverages. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

non coverage
this is the letter i sent to the BBB and the Attorney Generals Office of Wisconsin.
This is to file a complaint against the above company. Approximately 4 years ago I had a problem with my central air unit. I placed a call to the warranty company listed above and was informed they had no one who could service my area for this problem but asked if I could find someone on my own and call them in. I did what was asked of me. There were a lot of back and forth between the company and the vendor I located through the yellow pages. Finally HSA approved the repair and the air handlers in my attic was replaced. I had to pay the installer and wait for HSA to reimburse me. The norm would have been they send an installer of their own and I pay a 50.00 deductible. For the past few years I have had issues with my air conditioning where as the safety pan under the handler which is suppose to catch any water that overflows due to a clogged drain has been filling although the drain is clear. I called the vendor that installed it but they said this is normal because the insurance company didn’t want to fix the whole thing. So each year I remove water from this pan to avoid a flood which I did have once already.
There is no one I have ever heard of that has to go in their attic and remove water from a pan once or twice a season. I did call the repair company back but they said there was nothing they did wrong. So now on August 19th at 4 am we were woken up because of a new problem. Now the water was coming out of my intake rather then one of the vents like one time before. I called HSA and this time they did have a vendor of there own which they sent. He said that it appears this is an installation issue and because it wasn’t properly installed that it would need to be corrected . When he called into HSA for this repair authorization they refused and turned it down. When I called to understand why they told me that this wasn’t their responsibility. If it was one of their vendors they would send him back. I explained to them they requested me find someone because they couldn’t find anyone. This was their idea not mine. Now they are trying to remove themselves from this. The original company that did the installation isn’t returning my calls so I don’t even know if they are still in business but over the few years they have claimed they did everything fine. Regardless this was an installation done by the insurance company approved and paid for by them so they should be responsible for this repair. This is a chance they take when using people to do installation for them. I am not an air conditioner repair person so I have no idea what is wrong or right with installation. I have been quoted 1000.00 for the repair from an HSA repair person and HSA should absorb this cost but they refuse. After numerous conversations with many people at HSA the claim has been denied. I also offered to share the cost but they said they would pay 200 no more.
Beware of the small clauses and wording in their contract. To be fair they have been very good in the past and this is the first problem I've had with them but this is a big one that they refuse to resolve.

they willingly mislead consumers to purchase their plans without explaining the fine print
I bought a house and the seller purchased a home warranty for me. I had a problem with my furnace. Called and was told to get a technician (they use Kennedy's) I got Kennedy's. Kennedy's told them at some time the wrong part had been put in the furnace. For that reason, warranty did not cover. This was done before I every purchased the home. My furnace starts leaking. I was told to contact technician. Technician calls HSA and the lady says, too bad we don't cover that part for the first 30 days. I had a plumbing problem the first week. They didn't cover that part either.
The public needs to be warned against spending money, $390/yr. for coverage that is not worth the paper it was written on.
When they sell these programs, they tell you all that is covered. They DON'T go over the fine print. They make you believe that you have some good policy.
Insurance companies are a joke. They willingly mislead consumers to purchase their plans without explaining the fine print.
insurance scam
We bought our first home in may of this year, and were so thankful for the home warranty company. Now, over $3000 later, it has proven to be a huge waste of money. Hsa home warranty will pay for nothing! You can’t make up the excuses we have been given, and they speak for themselves… for example, our electricity started flickering in the living room because water was dripping on the breaker, but hsa wouldn’t pay for it because the water came from outside, making it “an act of god, not normal wear and tear.” then the breakers started sparking and we were afraid our house would catch fire, so we called an emergency electrician, the only one that was available right then. Hsa wouldn’t pay for those repairs because they wanted us to have a second opinion before the electrician saved our house from catching fire. The service representatives were usually helpful, but changed their stories constantly, especially when I pointed out that one flat-out lied. Hsa should do everyone a favor and clearly state on their literature that they aren’t out to help the customer; they’re there to help themselves to our hard-earned money.

They just don't pay for anything and they lie through their teeth.
So very true! Michael Herman gets huge bonus checks by making denials stick!
buyer beware
Just moved into a home and the heatwave hits. A/C fails to work. Called HSA and was given number to "authorized agent" who told us no appointments for 2 weeks. Called HSA back, who wanted to verify. We got authorization to call another repair person we looked up in the yellow pages. This guy comes out and told me "it quit working, it's dead, it needs to be...

We have lived in our new home for 4 days and the sewere drain backed. I spoke with a claims adjuster that said they would inded cover the claim for $230 less the deductible of $75. Now i just received a call from a girl stating that they will not be covering it due to tree roots! The plumber from Roto Rooter said it could have been numerous items that caused the drain backup! Including small piece of debris from home construction! HSA is a scam shop! Just pass on the offer if youre thinking about it!
HSA SUCKS! Dont use them...before any work being done...the plumber needs to call them and check if its approved. Else no work is done. But in my case they approved it, plumber was incompetent, could not find the issue or fix it, left without getting paid for coming to my home(inspite of asking him to wait). I finally get a letter from HSA stating the claim was "Unapproved" and to pay double my premium. Will not provide break up of the charges, considering NO WORK was done. How did the claim become unapproved in the first place...since I call HSA who then calls the plumbing company! They take the word of the plumbing company over the customer. Not to mention the attitude of the plumbing companys techs. VERY RUDE and CALLOUS!
