This company has a monopoly on Madison County and it's not fair
This company has a monopoly on Madison County and it's not fair. I live in North Huntsville and we have power outages all the time. Huntsville Utilities doesn't care about us because they know we have no other choice. I'm so unhappy with this company, the power outages happen too often.
I think the 300$ plus 70$ charge to transfer utilities into my name from my ex's name is way too much
I think the 300$ plus 70$ charge to transfer utilities into my name from my ex's name is way too much. I've lived here and paid this utility bill for 36 years (automatic withdrawal). I wish someone would look into the cost of this. Also, I'm very displeased with them spraying the tree line about 5 yrs ago. The spray had never been used before, they had always cut the limbs. This killed about 17 dogwoods that grew and bloomed along this line. I had waited my entire life, finally retired, to see these bloom, and now they are all dead. The effects of the spray seem to be slowly spreading even years later. This is something that cannot be rectified.

Water usage was unusually high
I have been a HU customer for going on 15 years and living in the same home for nearly 8. I recently had a $600 bill due to what I believed was caused by a running toilet. Now, I had no idea that the toilet was running until an HU rep called to tell me my "water usage was unusually high". Please keep in mind that this was in January, right after...

My bill for utilities went up to almost $400 this month
My bill for utilities went up to almost $400 this month. Last month we had Christmas lights and 3 trees on 24/7. Something ain't right. My utility bill is almost $400 this month. As a single mom, that's completely ridiculous when we ain't never home.

I got charged too much for my utilities
I got charged too much for my utilities. They read my meter wrong and charged me over $200 extra even though I didn't use any more than usual. They never told me I could check my usage on their website to avoid this happening.
I got charged $40 extra for a visit I didn't ask for
I got charged $40 extra for a visit I didn't ask for. Been a customer since 2002, never had this happen before. Saw it on my bill, along with a late fee. Didn't miss a payment, didn't ask for anyone to come to my house. Been with them for years and never seen this fee. Pay online. It's okay if they shut off my services, but they didn't.
I been using Huntsville Utilities for 'bout 5 years now
I been using Huntsville Utilities for 'bout 5 years now. When I signed up, they said I'd get my deposit back after 3 years of keepin' my account open. But when I hit that 3 year mark, I didn't get no credit. I called 'em up and they said I couldn't get it 'cause I paid my bill late a few times. They said I'd get it in 6 months, but I still didn't get it. I called 'em again and they said they'd put it back in the system and I'd get it in a few months. But it's been 4 years now and I still ain't got no credit. I called 'em up again and they said they can't do nothin' 'bout it 'cause it's up to the system to put the credit on my account. They said they submitted it and I should see it on my next bill, but I still ain't seen nothin' after 5 years of keepin' my account open, payin' on time, and not gettin' cut off.
I lost my job because of COVID and applied for help with rent and utilities from the Madison County Emergency Rental Assistance Program
I lost my job because of COVID and applied for help with rent and utilities from the Madison County Emergency Rental Assistance Program. They said they would pay Huntsville Utilities (HSVUTIL) for my utilities, but HSVUTIL won't take the payment and threatened to cut off my service. I keep calling, but they won't help me. They should have gotten three payments by now and there are three more coming, but I don't know if they will take them. I talked to someone named Jamie who said she was a boss, but she yelled at me and said I had to pay or my service would be cut. I asked if they were doing anything for people like me who got approved but didn't get their payments posted, but she said no because HSVUTIL doesn't care.
I live with my dad at *** Drive and we own the place together
I live with my dad at *** Drive and we own the place together. Huntsville Utilities came by earlier this year and cut off a part of a tree on our property. The tree is now breaking and it's a big problem. There are power lines from Huntsville Utilities that run behind our property. They came onto our property and cut off a part of the Silver Maple tree in our backyard. The tree is not in the city easement. I told Huntsville Utilities in February that they didn't do a good job because they peeled off some of the bark and cut out a part of the tree. A Huntsville Utilities worker came to look at the tree and said it looked healthy, so they wouldn't remove it. But last week, a big part of the tree broke off and fell into our backyard. The tree is obviously not healthy like Huntsville Utilities said it was. If Huntsville Utilities thought it was dangerous to the power lines, why wouldn't they agree to take it down now that it's breaking apart? They cut into it without asking me, and I told them months ago that I was worried about the tree getting sick from the cutting. Now, the tree is breaking apart and it's dangerous for us and our property.
I had a real bad experience with Huntsville Utilities
I had a real bad experience with Huntsville Utilities. They wanted a $1000 deposit just to transfer service into my daughter's name after her divorce. They wouldn't even run a credit check to see that she has good credit. They said she had an old past-due account from way back in 2012 when she lived in a Huntsville apartment. They also wouldn't accept me as a co-signer because I don't have any current utilities in my name except for my cell phone. It's crazy that they're making us pay such a big deposit when we have no problem paying our bills. It's like they're just bullying us for no reason. It's really frustrating, especially with everything else going on with the divorce.
I made a mistake when trying to pay my utility bill online
I made a mistake when trying to pay my utility bill online. I added a new bank account and deleted an old one, but the old account was still charged. I tried to delete it again, but it didn't work. I called customer service and spoke to a rude representative named Cari who wouldn't tell me which account was charged. I then spoke to a manager named Kelsey who accused me of making changes online the day before, even though I had proof that I didn't. She eventually told me that both accounts were charged. Overall, it was a terrible experience with unhelpful employees who were more interested in arguing than finding a solution.
Invalid charges!
Invalid charges! They charged me $50 for a locked gate when there's no meter in my backyard. I've lived here since 2010 and had a gas line installed, but it was never completed to the house, so there's no meter. I've never had anyone read a meter that doesn't exist. I have a fence with a locked gate to my backyard, but Huntsville Utilities has never asked me to unlock it or asked for access to my backyard since there's no meter there. My one meter that needs reading is in my front yard, next to my driveway, which is accessible by anyone. Last month, I got a letter saying they couldn't read my gas meter because of a locked gate, and they charged me $50. I called and told them there's no meter in my backyard, but they said I have one and the fee is valid. This month, I left one of my gates unlocked, but I still got the same letter and charge. They never knocked on my door, even though my wife and I work from home. I have locks on my gates for security, and it's disappointing that I have to unlock them or risk being charged for a meter check that doesn't exist. It's also concerning that this wasn't an issue before.
Huntsville Utilities say my meter was read wrong THREE times in a row and now they want more money without any proof
Huntsville Utilities say my meter was read wrong THREE times in a row and now they want more money without any proof. I got bills for December, January, and February and paid them all. The bills showed the actual reads of my meter. But then on March 26th, I got a bill for a new "actual" read on March 10th. The bill said the previous read was 23490 and the present was 24556. But that's not true! The previous read was actually 18653. If that was the previous read, we would have used 5903 KWH in just 13 days. That's impossible! But we can't check the meter because it was removed on March 10th. Huntsville Utilities wants us to pay $508.00 to make up for the mistake they made. They say they misread the meter THREE times before. But we don't think they did. We used less electricity than usual because we used our propane fireplace and got a new high-efficiency HVAC unit. I talked to someone at Huntsville Utilities on April 24th and they said we had to pay the $508.00. But then they sent me new bills for December, January, and February with different readings. They didn't explain how they got these new numbers. I emailed them on May 1st to explain everything again. But they just said the readings were correct and we still had to pay. They didn't explain why they changed the bills or how they got the new numbers. I need help to figure out what to do next. We don't want to pay for something we didn't use.
