I got a call from a Telus rep telling me about a great phone plan they have with Koodo. I told them I'm on a very limited budget but was interested because I only have a pay as you go plan right now ($35.00 per month) to save money but wanted to get a plan that included more. They told me it would only cost me $49.99 per month and with all the extras, I thought it was a great deal. I even ordered a tablet along with the plan since it was so reasonable. My bill for the tablet would be $15 extra per month. They would waive connection fees for me. Three days after receiving my SIM card my plan was deactivated on their side.
They charged me almost $500. I contacted them immediately and asked what happened and why was my bill so high (I don't travel and had only made 2 phone calls from my phone at that point).
They gave me some cockamayme excuse about not waiving connection fees because of my credit score. The rest was because they claimed I was making phone calls from my tablet (I can't make phone calls on the tablet)
The guy adds insult to injury telling me that I should speak to my husband about the bills. I told him I'm a woman who lives alone and has a mortgage, bills and a tight budget. I was quite offended by his misogynistic comment.
He eventually took the fees off and my phone was reactivated. Next bill came to over $1495. I called them again and they told me I was once again making calls from the tablet even though I"d taken out the sim card and had made sure the SIMs were in the correct devices (I spoke with a rep about that as well). I told them I'll send the tablet back but they said they wouldn't accept it back.
I'm not paying this ridiculous bill. I have contacted the media and will also be calling the CRTC about this predatory business practice. This is an absolute RIPOFF and I was taken advantage of.
I just checked and it looks like they've taken some fees off of my bill but they still want $1280.69 which they will NOT be receiving. I've flushed my cards down the toilet where they belong.
I'm willing to pay for the tablet but after my phone being deactivated after a couple of days, having to contact incompetent rep after incompetent rep to get answers and resolve the issue, I'm done with this.
Claimed loss: $1280.69
Desired outcome: To have this bill removed from my account.
