I am an la fitness personal trainer! most people on this site would assume that I am here to tell you all that your wrong and that I work for and belong to a team that is professional and superior. unfortunatly, its not that big of a mystery, la fitness should be on the forbes list for *worst* companies to work for in the world! I absolutely agree that 90% of the trainers there are horrible, embarrassing fools. they endanger clients regularly, are not engaging, have no concept of a work ethic, and are just plain idiotic. some of my co-workers train people as if they have never even read the word "personal trainer" let alone studied to be one! it makes me so sad to say that I work with these clowns... but I do. generaly the only good trainers at any la fitness are the ones whos schedules are always booked and who have regular clients. at my club that includes me and a total of two other trainers. I absolutely love my career and my clients which is why I havent left yet. I cant just get up and leave my clients whom I have devoted so much time, effort, heart and soul to and vice versa. the economy also doesnt help the situation. I will tell you that I am absolutely not like the idiots that are being talked about on here - because I can stand them either. its not just the trainers... trainers are the least of the problem! the real problem is the training sales staff and management. not only is there no one to perform acceptable managerial duties that keep employees in line and to ensure that they are not injuring or unqualified for work, but they also absolutely do take total and complete advantage of members. this corporation is all about cash, and once they've got yours, they dont give a damn about you anymore. as trainers we have no break room, no locker room, no insurance options, no bonuses, no raises, no higher pay for more or better certifications. flat $6 a session folks, thats what we get of your $30-50 per half hour. I am certified by a nationally recognized company and should be making at the very least $25 per hour. la fitness pay for trainers is a slap in the face. oh... you think that is bad? they manipulate and cajole their members far worse. lie about sessions expiring, management steals commission from trainers, changes dates of agreements to make quotas, changes terms of agreements without client knowing, doesnt let the client know about all the stipulations of signing any of their contracts. and sooooooooooo much more. this whole corporation is a joke. I have worked for other gyms and corporations before - everyone has complaints and problems, but I have never in my life seen the things that I see happening at la fitness. the establishment is a joke, its embarrassing to say that I am empolyed by them because of how they treat their employees and more importantly how horribly they treat their members. I apologize to all of you who have had bad experiences and I wish I could contact all of you to either begin a class action lawsuit or to expose to the pubic what is really going on with them, because the whole corporation would be torn down in the flash of a second. if anyone would be interested in something like that please post a response.

I work out almost every day at that gym and have to agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't know who you are, but there are two trainers at the gym--both female who appear to be knowledgeable and competent trainers--the others I find seriously entertaining. I am not as good natured as you, so I tend to believe that the people who agree to have these people train them deserve what they get because they are just as dumb as the trainers. Once I saw a trainer respond to a client who stated that she was feeling light-headed and nauseous that she needed to keep pushing herself harder. She subsequently had a seizure and the trainer responded by carrying her to a couch until she recovered. Amazing. Sound to me like you need to find a more professional gym that recognizes your skills.
I currently train at an LA Fitness in Pittsburgh, PA...my experience totally mirrors the one described above. No matter how professional you try to be as a trainer, the fact of the matter is that 90% of your co-workers are clowns and con-artists. I'm very actively looking for other employment. And I agree, a Class Action Suit is pending.
Ok, so I'm glad I looked up some reviews because I was about to take my 2 month old son tomorrow while I worked out! NO WAY am I going now. I guess the girl that called me...must get some kind of commission off of me if I join, because I told her I needed to come early at like 5 am before my husband left for work, then she said they couldnt activate my guest pass until 8am..so I told her that wouldnt be possible because I have a baby and no babysitter. She said I could use the kids klub...I questioned her about my son being so young...she put me on hold and said oh no problem, we will take care of him. (While it specifically says on the website 3 months and up are welcome) She was very pushy! I'm still going to join but will not be using the kids klub.
at the la fitness on 82nd ave in portland or there are two employees named O-Vee and Ashley. this O-vee guy is a membership guy and Ashley is at the front desk. on several occaisions as i walk in the door this O-Vee guy runs up to Ashley and whispers derogatory comments about me to her to get her reaction. she usually giggles at him then make no eye contact with me or sometimes just a snear. after he does this he then runs back to his little temporary desk and giggle like a little school girl. i'll tell you what, i was very close a few times but choose not to get arrested so i joined 24 hr fitness. they have a very professional staff that doesn't screw with the members.
I soo agree with all of the complaints related to LA Fitness. I attand the LA Fitness in Mesa Arizona and this is the first bad experience in a long time I have in the past 4 years of being a member. The facility was really dirty so I decided to let management know about this issue. The assistant manager refuse that the equipment was dirty and that I was not a manager so I did not know about their routine to clean equipment. The towl was brown and he (John) still argue that they clean the equipment. I could not believe his atttitude related to the facility. I am going to call their corporate office on Monday or this is not resolve than I will need to contact the channels. So sad new management is making this place a MESS...
I so agree with the above article. I worked at LA Fitness in the Orlando FL area and I can tell you that everything you said is correct. The Director sold a twice a week training package to a family who had a child that was wheel chair bound with a very serious illness and lied to them saying that their trainers can help him walk again. This gym is very scamish and unethical. The gym where I was at was a very dead gym and the Vice President came to me and said I must be stealing clients because my hours were low. I called Human Resources to complain and when the HR lady called back she was defending the VP. I gave my notice and quit 2 weeks later. Stay away from all LA Fit .
