fraudulent charges
Be careful enrolling in a membership here, because once you cancel, you don't REALLY cancel. I was added onto a friends account, she canceled and wanted me to split the cancellation fee with her. After being harassed by the company multiple times the day she cancelled, I finally spoke to them once I was off work. I gave them my credit card # to pay the second half of the cancellation fee. Please keep in mind this is the ONLY time I have ever given them my credit card #. The following month I noticed a 29.99 charge from them on my account, confused by this I called them to resolve the issue. Costumer service was unable to help me because they were "unaware" of the charges and said I didnt have an active account with them. They tried to tell me I wasnt being charged, when clearly I was, according to my credit card statement. I decided to have my bank deal with it and reverse the charges. The next month, they decided to charge me 29.99 again. I then realized they must have set me up with some sort of automatic payment. I called them to again inquire about this since I NEVER authorized any such payments. This time they told me that I never cancelled? I asked them why they think I paid 43.50...and explained to them that this was the other half of the cancellation fee on the account and the representative who called me assured me that my account had been terminated along with the cancellation fee.
Basically they kept denying that I cancelled and informed me that the confirmation # I had received with my cancellation was invalid. I could not and cannot believe this. And when I asked them to send me proof that I had authorized this reoccurring payment they were unable to provide it for me.
I do not appreciate anyone taking my credit card information and unlawfully using for other purposes. For a somewhat well-known company, i'm surprised they are able to get away with this sort of stuff. They are a bunch of liars and thieves.

dirty, dusty
The gym on 441 and glades is a danger zone, it has bum bells and weight on the floor through out the gym area. I trip over bum bells twice the two hours I was there. This la fitness is not kept clean at all there is dusty on the walls and equipment. You can say its run down. On one of my visits there they had pizza and chicken wings for the members, your thinking healthy right ! Well it get worse one of the members I saw eating the grease chicken wing went for the bum bells with out washing his hands. If you are looking to get sick or just like germ infested gyms ! This mite be the place for you. A dump with lazy works.

stay away from these guys
Last friday we heard the shocking news that Ballys was bought out by LA Fitness. Whether that is a good thing, I dont know. But the thing that LA Fitness really surprised us with, was with the cancellation of the TMA (Total martial arts) program. Let me tell you what this has done. Pissed off parents, unfinished contracts with the students and the worse part is, seeing all our kids sad and crying the day Ballys and LA Fitness decided to shut down the program without any type of notice and kicking us out, including the martial arts instructor. We were all shocked, angry, and emotional because we were not just members we were a group and a family.
Over the years we the parents, students and instructors had build a relationship. LA Fitness just like that, took that away. I am PISSED not only because they shut the program down for no reason but because I had to witness a very sad scene which was my children and the children of all the other parents involved, SAD, CRYING, and what makes me sad is that they are innocent children that do not understand why the place where they loved to go and the place where they learn respect, discipline and friendship is no more. Many can say to just put them my children in another school, but it’s not that simple.
I hope that who ever reads this can understand our feelings towards this issue and knows the type of business LA Fitness is about by this action they have taken. Camp out at “Occupy LA-Ballys” on Facebook and state your unified thoughts. Bally’s gave its loyal members a great example of Corporate greed and LA Fitness is providing the shaft by ending and not honoring the Bally’s fitness lifetime members contract nor any other. I was informed by the new LA Fitness staff that Bally’s has sold all of its memberships with a final expiration date ending 2012 of a calendar year (Corporate Greed), in which time all will be subject to LA Fitness new monthly rates (The Shaft.)
fitness trainers
The first day that I initially went to LA Fitness in Conyers I signed up. Fatima, the sales rep was great, but most sales people should be. When I returned for one on one with the trainer, I was blown off. I complained of course, some fees were dropped, and they rescheduled me to come back...To experience the same thing. This time I thought it was going to be right, especially since the manager spoke to me upon entry. Well, I did get a quick 15 minute workout without any talk about dieting or anything else. All was asked was do you want to sign up for a personal trainer. They are definitely in the money business and will not pay you any mind unless you are trying to spend more money utilizing their extra services. Not sure if they all are this way, but I should've listened to God when he advised me to cancel the membership the following day after being ignored.

gym
I notified la fitness that I cancelled my direct debit as I had been advised by my doctor. I suffer severly from panic attacks which I can not go in public places without having a anxiety attack. I explained my situation to the gym on the phone who was understanding and said to send a doctors letter and they would freeze it for 3 months as this is the longest they would do it for. I sent my doctors letter in as they asked. The following week they said they would not accept my letter.
I then rang and spoke to someone else who said no that's fine and put a freeze on my account.
3 days later I received a letter from a credit debt agency demanding £380 within 10 days. I rang la fitness again all I got told to do was to ignore the letter and a apology.
Im really not happy with the way I was treated and think the customer service was disgusting. I now want my account closed permanently as i feel I have been treated unfairly
manager
My name is Sherry; I was a member of the La Fitness in Carrollton Texas. The reason I am not is because the one manager there named Jon Michael offended me and embarrassed me in front of people working out there at the time. I am a white female, on the heavy side but was working out to be more on the thinner side. As I walked by Jon he said something I couldn’t believe, I stopped and said excuse me what did you say and Jon replied there is no excuse for you being that fat. Jon said it loud enough so that other members start saying did you hear what he said to her. I was so embarrassed and ashamed I run out of their crying and went home. I tried calling and taking to someone in charge but they keep giving me Jon Michael the manager and Jon repeat called me fat ### stop calling hear, we don’t like fat ### here. I hope this helps stop overweight people from signing up at the Carrollton Texas la fitness store so they will not be made fun of by the manager Jon Michael as I was. Do not go to the Carrollton Texas la fitness is you are some overweight, beware of Jon Michael.

Seems I hadn't submitted that original comment. Has the commenter ever tried to contact L.A. Fitness? They aren't set up for you to contact them by phone. They want you to contact them through a local club. Go to the other complaint sites or even this one and read what L.A. Fit members report. This corp. is all about advertising for new members and selling personal training. I've heard from members at our club who have had billing problems and the difficulties in resolving them.
Sorry for sending that incomplete comment. Without repeating, I'd add that the other member's complaint that the same manager said to aloud to another employee "that's how to get rid of an older member " shows that he's insensitive to people's feelings. Are we into that "Jersey Shore" reality t.v. mentality where insulting people is seen as the norm? Maybe she should consult a lawyer and/ or complain to the Better Business Bureau. That L.A. Fitness tolerates that manager's behavior should tell you something about the character of L.A. Fitness. Just my 2 cents.
Why don't you call the owner? If you can't get through, then go to the website. I'm sure there is contact info there.
unfair wages
I worked in the capacity of supervisor for three different periods of time and I was never paid the supervisory pay of $13.00 per hour and I received only my $8.00 per hour for janitorial/Maintenance worker, I directed staff, had staff member to fill out hire package, was asked to give inventory for supplies and I had to perform his daily task by working a split shift which I was never compensated for.

I was a loyal LA fitness club member for over 4 years. Unfortunately, I have to cancel it last year because of my puppy. Now my puppy is fully independent so I want to re-join the club again. LA fitness is always my first choice. So yesterday(2/27/12) me and my friend went to the Arcadia club try to talk to somebody, around 7:30pm. The staff's name is Jonny Blanco. He was ok at the first few minutes, asking about what kind of deals we are looking for. But for some reason he was not able to pull out the right record of my previous information. I was telling him I used to have $29.99/month and can bring a friend with me, he said that was not in the system, you didn't have this offer. My friend went to this club with me before I cancelled it, so she couldn't believe his reply. By all means, I was with the club for 4 years, I know what I had before, and my friend is the witness, we went to this club together more than 20 times! So I asked if I can get this deal again, he didn't give me direct answers, just saying that was not what I had. Then my friend said " well then, we'll get for 24-hr fitness." Then he said:" IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD LA FITNESS THEN GO FOR 24-HRS FITNESS"
We couldn't believe that was coming from your "friendly" "Professional" "trained" staff! I replied:" It's not about I can afford it or not, I just want to know if I can get the same deal that I used to have." Jonny wasn't apologizing for what he just have said, he said:" I CAN'T GIVE YOU THE DEAL THAT YOU IMAGINE YOU HAVE" So we left the club feel very insulted. I can't believe that how can LA fitness has someone like Jonny, treat your previous member and possibly new members in such a way! What kind of staff LA fitness hired for such a nice location? I feel like me and my friend will NEVER go with LA fitness again, and we'll tell all my friends how we were being treated at your Arcadia club. This makes your business looks very bad.
Fitness clubs require high quality trained professional staffs in contact with clients. We are just two young girls come with simple request, the result wasn't even matter at this point. If this is the kind of staff your club can offer, you'll lose more business in the future. This is the WORST experience I ever had at any kind of business, not even a small restaurant will treat their customer like this.

membership tactics
I was considering trying LA Fitness as the recently added Uptown Minneapolis location is very convenient to my home and I was hoping I would have a better user experience than previously. I found and printed a 3 day pass from your website planning to see how I liked the Uptown club -- particularly the cycling equipment and the quality of group classes to help me make a decision to switch from my current club, which is not as convenient and is more expensive. When I presented the pass to the member services rep, Mike, I did mention I had been a member. When he asked why I left, I told him I wasn't happy with the St. Louis Park cycling equipment -- there were always 5 or more inoperable bikes which meant getting a bike meant showing up 45 minutes early. Club staff kept promising the bikes would be fixed or replaced, but nothing happened for months. I also found there were very few group classes and poorly trained teachers for the ones offered. The 3-day pass was accepted without a problem.
After I finished a cycling class, and returned to pick up my ID, Mike asked me if I intended to become a member today. When I mentioned I wanted to try a Yoga class using my 3-day pass the next day, he informed me I shouldn't be using a 3-day pass as they are for people who have never been members. (That is not stated anywhere on the pass nor is it stated on the website.) I told Mike this and he begin to argue with me. I told him I was not going to argue that I would just skip it. He then lectured me that the club is a private club, that it is not free and that I should sign up today as there is a special offer. I told him I did not want to be pressured, that I intended to make certain I would be happy with the club and that I wasn't concerned about missing out on the special offer as I had an email offer for the same price. This seemed to put Mike right over the edge. He yelled at me that he wasn't pressuring me and told me LA Fitness doesn't need my business. Clearly, if he wasn't going to sign me up right then, he didn't want me as member at all. I guess I must have been messing up his sign-up percentage. Mike was officious, defensive, argumentative, disrespectful and high pressure.

Three of my friends and I signed up three days La Fitness up town Minneapolis. First day we were all allowed to use the uptown LA but second day after we checked in Miguel Deleon come to us and said, "unless you come to me and show me your IDs and sign up the the facility you wont use the facility" but we remind him that we did checked in and showed our IDs and we are using three days guest pass but Miguel kick us out and told us we cant use the facility unless we sign up. We were so happy to join LA membership but with this unprofessional managerial experience. i don't think we will ever join unless things change. I am sure its not LA's core values to mistreat customers but someone like miguel Deleon is hard to deal with.
extortionists
I am another LA Fitness Victim.
I have been through what everyone else here has - this company are bunch of crooks and just in the business of extorting money. The staff and personal Trainers are a joke - they're all extortion agents, nothing more. Trying to resolve anything with them is a joke, they have been trained to suck as much money out of people as they can. A day will come when their house of cards will tumble - I will applaud when that happens.
Oh I am not the idiot you are trying to imply I am, fulfilled my contract alright - I paid for months and got nothing for it and then decided that I needed to get something for the +$1000 I had already spent on trainers who were no show, inadequate and were constantly recycled and an additional membership that resulted from a change in billing so I ended up with 2 memberships instead of 1.The front desk girl who was the first point of contact treated all customers as if she was doing them a favor. She was rude and abrasive - definitely not customer service material. You got better results jamming your head into a vice grip. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told that there wasn't one and so I contacted Head Office who passed me off onto someone who suddenly claimed to be THE manager. I met with her, we discussed my issues, she wanted me to forget all past failures ( including all the money I had been paying for nothing). Even so I decided to give it another go and there it started all over again. I couldn't reach the person i was trying to set an appointment up with, she was always on lunch, when I asked to speak to the other trainer I wanted, I was put on hold and had to listen to cheesy music for ages and then he would suddenly go to lunch.NO one ever returned my calls. Dealing with this organization certainly tested my heart rate and I decided that a buy out of this contract was going give me the most satisfaction. So I am $1500 in the hole and have nothing but frustration to show for it. Everyone knows how fickle these fitness clubs are and I have belonged to numerous ones over the years. I have always fulfilled my commitment - to the organization and to myself, but LA Fitness is probably the worst one I have dealt with to date.
I agree la fitness is the worst of all ... And some should take action against this sucky service and blood sucking leaches
broken down equipment, poor customer service
If you are looking at spending your hard earned dollar for a gym membership, spend it elsewhere. The equipment appears to be 20 years old as evident by all the rust on the machines. At any given time, 10% of the cardio equipment is out of order. The majority of cardio equipment has 6 modes of exercise and you can use 3 because the other modes require the users heart rate and the machines don't have sensors on them. The locker rooms stink and to find a locker without a broken door is a challenge. The staff doesn't acknowledge your existence. If they do, be prepared to get blown off and disregarded if you have a question. They treat the members like your wasting their time. Be smart and don't buy off on the whole initiation fee crap. I can tell you this, for the suckers that pay it, they sure in the hell don't buy any new equipment with it or make any improvements to the facility.

Visited LA Fitness outlet in Troy, Mi. Feb 2, 2012. The place was SOOOO crowded there was a 15-20 minute wait to get on some equipment. I wasn't about to wait, so I went to the pool instead. There was a small class of women doing water aerobics, and 3 other people swimming. After about 30 minutes of swimming I noticed the towel I brought into the pool area and hung at the end of the pool had been stolen.
Confronting a janitor that had just come through the area, told me he didn't take it. After drying off using paper towels, dressing and going to the front desk, the manager could hardly be bothered. Her cold, curt, textbook, robotic "I'm sorry" left an impression I will NEVER forget! No compassion, no interest in helping me at at all. It was the look of "it's only a bath towel".
She seemed and looked very young, probably does not have children. Not that that matters except the "it's only a bath towel" impression REALLY pissed me off! That towel was an embroidered towel and a fathers day gift from my children that can never be replaced. Her lack of human compassion was about as repugnant as it gets! I can only hope if she ever has children... ERRRR scratch that...Let's just pray she never does!
SHAME ON YOU LA Fitness, Troy, MI. SHAME ON YOU Manager! You are disgusting!

Subject: Theft from your corporation
Dear Sirs,
I am a member at your location in South Plainfield. I have been member for almost two months now.
On Saturday 03/06/10 after my group lesson I went for swimming and someone took my sneakers away and key for my locker. I have filesd complaint with the police regarding the theft.
Your employees there have shown me no empathy or willingness to do anything to resolve this manner at all. I am amazed at the lack of customer service.
Is there a corporate number to reach out to, I couldnot find on uour website to report on this.
Rashmi
Anyone else want to make a smart remark on my brother's remark can go fu ck themselves and suck our dicks.
Before you go around judging people you should know the whole facts. My brother is not allowed to have contact with his children. His wife divorced him and the judge decided that he was abusive towards his wife and children when he was just putting them in place and disciplining them. So he cannot just ask them to make another one. Not to mention his wife is the one that filed a restraining order against him because he was disciplining her and she claimed he assaulted her.
front desk staff is a joke
The cleanliness of this gym is actually very good. For once I dont have an issue with that. However two weekends ago the gym opened terribly late. A week before that I went to the gym very early and the front desk girl was doing her nails. I have noticed that she is always on her phone and when I have asked her a simple question she gave me a half ### answer. Sometimes I can't believe I'm paying 34.99 for crappy service. I blame the manager for her lack of attention towards her staff. The manager also does her workout early in the morning and this front desk girl is following her manager gossiping about some nonsense leaving the front desk unattended. I know because I have had to check myself in. This La Fitness is clean with awful customer service.

trainer no shows
My husband and I signed up for a personal training account along with our gym membership nearly 2 years ago. We started with one trainer, Ben, then shortly thereafter moved on to work with Chris. Chris was there for the summer between semesters to he left late summer. At that point we were assigned to Nicole. She was a decent trainer as far as workout were concerned, but shortly after working with her we started having problems with her not showing up for appointments. It meant that we were banking so many unused sessions because she would cancel and then cancel the rescheduled sessions. At one point we had about 3 months worth of training banked because of all the missed sessions. We finally had to tell Nicole that we could no longer work with her missing so many sessions. Shortly thereafter we learned that Nicole was fired.. That left us to find an another trainer. A friend who was also a member of the gym recommended Luis. She was moving away and leaving the gym so it worked out that we could take over her time slot and work out with Luis. Things were great. He never missed an appointment and we were starting to make some head way in using up the nearly 3 months of banked sessions. Then we went on vacation in early December and when we returned from that vacation to our appointment with Luis, we were so disappointed to learn that he had quit employment with LA Fitness. Tyler, one of the managers at the club spoke very poorly of Luis and his departure. I did not see that in Luis and was quick to let Tyler know this. Tyler explained that a new trainer coordinator was going to the Camp Hill facility and he would be able to help us We shared with Tyler all that had happened during our period with the training contract. Tyler was very arrogant and wanted us to give them a chance to make good on this. We did finally meet with Singin, the trainer coordinator. He did one session with us, but explained he could not train us. His role was simply to oversee the trainers. At this point, it was very apparent that the training staff was disappearing. One trainer shared with us that everyone is leaving because of the pay and treatment. In the meantime, they are selling more and more training contracts. My husband and I are struggling to schedule training appointments. We finally get a new trainer, Matt. We are pleased with his workouts and did meet with him twice. Again at this point we are again banking sessions. Then after the 2 sessions with Matt, we get a call an hour before the third session. Matt is ill and cannot meet with us. I try to reschedule for something the next evening or so. He gives me his cell number and says that I can call the next morning to confirm and reschedule. I call the next morning as promised. I get Matt's voicemail and ask him to return my call to my cell. No return call. Go to the gym that next night and he is not there. Talked with Tyler and Singin and they do not understand why we will not give them another chance. Are they really serious? I go onliine to see what sessions are available. They have very limited availability for training in the evenings. As full-time workers, we cannot train mid-day. We are limited in our schedule to M, W, F at 6:30. We explain to Tyler and Singin that we have no choice but to cancel our contract. Tyler printed out the form, which doesn't even need a signture and simplt includes a bar code. I attached a letter of explanation for mailing, certified mail, to the home office. Hope that they get it and process promptly. In the meantime, Tyler says that our remaining six banked sessions will be honored. i schedule an appointment online at their website with Ian. So Monday at 6:30 my husband and I are there to meet with Ian. BUT, no one has seen Ian all day. Singin calls Ian. Ian doesn't know of any appointments for Monday, but he has one for 6:30 on Tuesday. Singin proceeds to tell us that we really should not use the online scheduling. Then why does it exist? I have used in this in the past without a problem. AND I have an email confirmation of the Monday appointment that I received on Sunday. Some reading this might think that I am crazy for giving them so many chances. I really did want this to work. The concept is a good one. They just cannot keep selling these packages though if they cannot keep the staff. As we were talking with Singin this last time, he was actually signing up a new training client. I was so close to telling that man, don't do it. At least not until they can get their program and staff in order. I am curious to see what if any contact the home office in CA will have with regards to my cancellation and the letter of explanation that I mailed.
On a positive note, we do enjoy the group fitness class - spinning. They have some professional and consistancy in the staff in that program. I want to continue my gym membership, I just need to step away from the training program. I recommend that others not sign up for training.
cancellation rip off
We were given two free week passes to LA Fitness, so my boyfriend and I went in there to try it out. We were told by their head sales representative Brett W. of the fourth plain Vancouver, WA location that we could obtain the two free weeks or he could waive our membership fees and let us have memberships for both of us at the rate of $32.45 per month. He also said if we werent happy that we could cancel within 7 days and get our money back in full. He seemed genuine so we believed him and agreed. I should have never given him my card information. They charged us $60 for the first charge. We went in and asked why and they said that is the rate there. We immediately said we wanted to cancel and get our full refund back. He said we cancelled one day too late and that we couldnt get it back but we could use the gym for the rest of the month and then our membership would end. We were very angry but agreed. He gave us two slips of paper to send in to the main office by mail, which didnt even require signatures, why they couldnt do it over the phone is beyond me, but we sent them in immediately. One month later we get a call from Brett saying we have an additional fee of $32.45 to pay. We are baffled, we call corporate. They assure us this will not be taken out of our account and give us a complimentary month of membership. A week later my bank account says there is a fee pending to come out in two days out of my account. We are baffled, we call corporate. They tell me the money wont be taken from my account but they have no record of us cancelling. What they hell? We ask to speak to the manager, the girl says their phones are broken and they can't transfer calls, after a half hour of begging she finally transfers us to her supervisor. He tells us we are pretty much S.O.L. we asked to speak to his manager, he says he can't do that and then disconnects the call. We are still in turmoil. I go to my bank and cancel my debit card, my bank tells me they still have to authorize the $32.45. I can't believe this company. If anyone knows of a local class action lawsuit please contact me. Wow, hope it pans out well. You should have just done the free two weeks...wow. Seems like once you give up that information, people can do what they want with it. They are so quick to take it out but not quick to put it back. You can't stop the payment through your bank? One time I had an issue like that and I called the bank and because it was a debit (because I provided my debit card information), they were able to stop the payment by blocking the merchant ID number for a period of 6 mths. That will at least buy you some time...Good Luck!
