McGrath Honda of Elgin is awesome!
McGrath Honda of Elgin is awesome! The peeps there, *** and *** are the bomb. They're super cool to work with and the whole place is just great.
McGrath Honda is no good
McGrath Honda is no good. They sold me a car that had been in three accidents, but they only told me about one. I paid extra for a Certified car, but when I tried to sell it later, I found out the truth. McGrath tricked me and I lost money. Don't go to this dealership!
McGrath Honda of Elgin is a bad company to work for
McGrath Honda of Elgin is a bad company to work for. They fired me when I was on maternity leave with my baby. I kept in touch and told them I would come back soon. They sent me a message saying they would keep my job until I came back. A few weeks later, they fired me. I couldn't get unemployment or anything because they were so mad that I was still on maternity leave. I lost my home and my bills got bigger. I wouldn't tell anyone to use this company.
If you want a Honda, don't bother with McGrath Honda of Elgin
If you want a Honda, don't bother with McGrath Honda of Elgin. The sales guys are nice and know their stuff, but they pull some shady moves. We checked out some CRVs, drove two, and decided on a hybrid. But when we got to the numbers, the salesman tried to tack on three "mandatory accessory charges" - SiO2 (ceramic), wheel locks, and door edge guards - that we never asked for. He said they were already done when the cars arrived and we had to pay for them. What a load of crap. We said no way and left when he pushed back. These guys are totally dishonest. We got the same car at another dealer for MSRP + taxes.
I went to McGrath Honda of Elgin in Feb 2021 to check out a used car they had
I went to McGrath Honda of Elgin in Feb 2021 to check out a used car they had. We talked about financing and they said it wouldn't hurt my credit. But they did a hard inquiry anyways, which was not cool. Then they sold the car to someone else who paid in cash. Now I have a hard inquiry on my credit for no reason. I've been trying to get it removed since June 2nd, but it's still there. The owner said they sent a notice to fix it, but it hasn't happened yet. I wouldn't recommend shopping at McGrath after this experience.
McGrath Honda of Elgin's sales policies and management ain't good
McGrath Honda of Elgin's sales policies and management ain't good. They did a bad thing called "bait and switch" and didn't sell me a car at the price they advertised. It's illegal. On January 18, 2022, they didn't honor the advertised price. The purchase agreement they gave me had high routine fees. But the real problem was two "accessories" that they added as mandatory. One was a security thing to protect their stuff, and I asked them to take it off, but they didn't answer. The other charge was for "certification," and two managers explained it differently. The car was supposed to be "Honda Certified Pre-Owned," but they didn't say they'd charge $2000 for that. Update: The day after they tried to scam me with the "mandatory accessory charges," they changed the price to match the January 18 price plus the accessories charges.
Sales guys are awesome and they really care about getting you the right car for your needs
Sales guys are awesome and they really care about getting you the right car for your needs. I give them 5 stars. I got a 2018 Buick Encore at a great price! But when I went to the finance department (the reason for the 1 star rating), I was exhausted after spending many hours working out the deal. The finance guy talked me into getting 1st place finish (paint & fabric). What a huge mistake that was. A few weeks later, I took it in for the treatment, only to return when I looked at the back seats. They were NEVER treated and the paint treatment left two very noticeable haze blemishes on the back hatch. So I went back to Honda to have them fix the problems. At first, the back hatch looked better, but another small blemish was back on the hatch in a different place. The "stain removal" is a joke, the seat stains are all coming back. I work full time and really don't have time to keep going back to have them "fix" the issue. I was hoping someone from the finance department would reach out to me and offer a solution, maybe a refund. I guess I'll have to take the time to do it myself. I'll give a better rating if Honda communicates with me. Truly disappointed.
I contakted the Honda McGrath service department in Elgin cuz my mom's car had a low tire pressure light
I contakted the Honda McGrath service department in Elgin cuz my mom's car had a low tire pressure light. They filled the tires up and rotated them, but the light still came on. I told the service guy all this on the phone and we talked for a bit. He said we should bring the car in for a tire pressure check, but it wouldn't cost us anything. I didn't think that was very helpful, so we said thanks and hung up. I googled the problem and fixed it myself in 2 minutes by checking the tire pressure and calibrating the thingy. It's pretty bad that I could figure it out so easily, but the service guy couldn't. I even contacted the dealership about it and they didn't even reply. So, I wouldn't recommend going to this place.
This dealership is the worst!
This dealership is the worst! I wouldn't give them any stars if I could! The salespeople don't know anything about the cars or promotions. We got our car a week late after waiting a whole month. And when we finally got it, there was a big scratch on the bumper. They said they would fix it, but all they did was add some touch-up paint and the bumper is still damaged. We've had to bring the car in for service three times in the eight weeks we've owned it. The first time was to fix the scratch and install some Honda accessories, which took a whole week. Then, a week later, a brake line broke and they had to take off the step they installed, which damaged the bottom of the car. They had the car for another week and then told us it was just normal wear and tear. We bought an extended warranty and the car is still under Honda's warranty, but they refuse to cover it. If they had installed everything correctly in the first place, the brake line and step wouldn't have broken in just five weeks. We'll be adding pictures soon as we get the car back. I'm sure Honda doesn't make parts or accessories that only last five weeks. The cover for the scratch wasn't centered or taped down correctly either. We had other accessories installed by them too, and now we have to go to a different dealership to have them check the work they did at Elgin Honda. We'll be filing a complaint with Honda and ComplaintsBoard.com.
I wish I could give 0 stars
I wish I could give 0 stars. When I went to this dealership, I was just turning 19 and looking for a way to treat myself during a time of crisis. My parents weren't in my life, so I went looking for a car. I went to this car lot looking for a Chrysler 300s that they showed on the website for a reasonable price. I talked to a dealer and told them I was looking to buy that car, but all of a sudden, the car wasn't there anymore. I tried to leave the dealership, but the dealer assured me I'd find a car I'd like and brought me a car that I immediately fell in love with. I asked the dealer I was talking to for the car facts, and I kept getting the runaround like they didn't exist. I then asked the dealer I was working with if there were any prior accidents or anything I should worry about, and the dealer said no. I asked a dealer that I wasn't working with to pull up the carfax on the car, not telling him I was looking to buy it, and the car had been through four accidents and was horribly damaged. It drove nicely, and there wasn't anything I could find wrong with the car, at least until I paid for it and left. Every time I got in the car, the odometer would skyrocket as if the car was adding miles even when it was parked. The next day, after the check engine light came on, I called the dealership, and they told me no refunds. Living in ***, they said the tow cost would be over 400 dollars. I later found out that the odometer and the lights on the car were reset to appear like the car was perfect, but it was all a lie. I finally got the car towed to the dealership three weeks after purchase, and I was told I had to pay over 2500 dollars to repair the car via the dealership. The car ended up being so much of a headache I had to get rid of it. I would never recommend this dealership. If you are looking for a car, do not go to this dealership.
I bought three cars in my life and all of them were Hondas
I bought three cars in my life and all of them were Hondas. But after my experiences with McGrath Honda and Brilliance Honda, I might not buy another Honda again. I took my 2016 Honda Civic to McGrath less than a year ago to fix the air conditioning under warranty. They also wanted to do $2000 worth of work, but I only let them fix the AC. I took the car to a local garage and they did all the work for less than $1200, including new tires. Now, less than a year later, the AC is busted again. I took it back to McGrath and they said the part they fixed is busted and there's another leak. They want another $1000 to fix what they already fixed. The tech, Ray Pena, did a bad job of communicating. He had the car for two days before he called me. He called me once to say everything was fine and would be fixed under warranty, but then called me back to say it's actually $1000. Ray was supposed to email me the details of the repairs, but he never did. I finally talked to a manager, Brian Couture, who was no help at all. He said he couldn't tell me why the part failed. I told them to get my car off the line and touch it as little as possible, but they did the warranty work anyway. Don't do business with this company, either service or sales. Their average rating on this site is 1.4 out of 5 for a reason.

Discrimination and fraud
Horrible experience, they took advantage of an old man (my uncle) who speaks little English.
After he decided on the car and put the deposit down they said the car needs to be repair and held his car hostage for over two weeks. He uses his car for work so at this point he has no income.
I called after a couple of weeks of him getting pushed around and they said they didn't have the part to get the car fix and it's going to take another week. they called him instead of me and said the car would be ready the next day. When I called to ask what happened they said they
"expiated the process". After picking up the car, he found that the AC is also broken so he had to paid an additional 1K get it fix and after that the car was over heating - Very shady, would stay away! I felt that if I didn't call, he would still be waiting to get this car. I called the dealership about returning the car since there's so many issues and was left waiting around for a call back at least twice and no one ever call. A day later he went back to the dealership to try to return the car and they basically threw him out and took the car in to 'fix' it... god knows when he will ever get it back. He told them they can keep the deposit, he really just want to return the car but they refused and proceed to yell at him.
I buyed a new Passport in March from McGrath Honda of Elgin
I buyed a new Passport in March from McGrath Honda of Elgin. I got the extended warranty too, but I still haven't got the info in the mail. I called and left messages, but no one called me back. I can't talk to anyone who can help me. I need the papers for the warranties I got.
Dealer said they put in protection stuff but only got 1 out of 3 things
Dealer said they put in protection stuff but only got 1 out of 3 things. No wheel locks or door edge guards. Splash guards came from other dealer. Sales dude said it was $799 but they didn't do it and only giving back $250. They owe me $600 for the stuff they didn't do. They say they can charge more cause of *** Club but that's not fair cause they didn't do nothing.

I purchased a 2021 Sonata from McGrath Honda of Elgin with low mileage
I purchased a 2021 Sonata from McGrath Honda of Elgin with low mileage. The finance person misled me, claiming the original warranty was non-transferable, prompting me to buy an extended warranty. Later, I discovered the warranty does transfer to the second owner up to a certain mileage or age limit. I was deceived into buying the warranty. Despite my calls and messages, no one has responded to refund my $1,500.00. This feels like a scam and fraudulent behavior!
I bought a 2016 Honda Accord from McGrath Honda of Elgin on November 12 for $16,770.44
I bought a 2016 Honda Accord from McGrath Honda of Elgin on November 12 for $16,770.44. I gave them a check (#***) for $10,000.00 and financed the rest ($6,770.44). I asked them if they would run my credit more than once and they said "No". But they ran my credit 6 times! Now I have 6 inquiries on my credit report as of November 23. I talked to the dealer about it, but they didn't take responsibility or offer to fix it. So, I'm asking the ComplaintsBoard.com to help me out.
I went to McGrath Honda Elgin on 2/15 to get a new ride
I went to McGrath Honda Elgin on 2/15 to get a new ride. But, the deal didn't work out and I told them I was going to another dealer. Then, on 2/25, I got a notification that there were 5 hard pulls on my credit. After that, the same salesman who I talked to before messaged me and said he had a new deal for me. But, I didn't say he could do that because we hadn't talked in over a week. This is against the law and it's not cool. When I talked to the salesman and his boss, they just said sorry and then didn't say anything else. I tried to talk to the General Manager and the next person in charge, but they didn't help me either. This is not good customer service for someone who likes Hondas. I wanted them to fix their mistake by helping me get rid of the hard pulls on my credit, but they didn't answer me.
I purchased a pre-owned Toyota Corolla 2013 from McGrath Honda in Elgin, IL on August 5th
I purchased a pre-owned Toyota Corolla 2013 from McGrath Honda in Elgin, IL on August 5th. As an international student, I chose this dealership for its positive reputation. The car's price was $8,975, but I was charged an additional $795 for a compulsory antitheft fee. They promised to manage the registration, Iowa tax, and fees, and forward them to my local DMV for $612 extra. I paid $10,686 in total: $3,000 by credit card and the remainder by check. Two months have passed without receiving my license plates. Despite numerous calls, the responses are evasive. The manager, who pledged assistance, has not resolved the issue. They apparently lack the title. I am seeking assistance.
