Mercari Mercari Review: A Total Scam! Don't Waste Your Time or Money

I gotta say, I didn't do my research before signing up for Mercari. But after reading some of the reviews, I gotta say, I'm not surprised by what's been going on. This marketplace is a total scam! If I could give them zero stars, I would. They don't even deserve one star, let alone five.

There's another marketplace called Wanelo that's just as bad. They both use the same phone number, 415-xxx-xxxx, which is located in San Francisco. But Wanelo at least provides a physical address, while Mercari just uses a PO box. These guys don't want to be found, and they're definitely not from Japan like they claim. They're just a bunch of clerks sitting around during their coffee break, waiting to pounce on unsuspecting victims.

If you're lucky enough to not get scammed by these guys, then you're probably one of the people leaving good feedback. But let me tell you, they're just cappers for Mercari. They're probably in on the scam too.

My account got suspended for selling counterfeit products, even though I didn't sell anything. When I tried to dispute it, they asked for my personal information like my SSN, address, name, gender, and birthday. They claim it's for identification purposes, but who knows what they're really doing with that information. They're probably selling it to third parties without our consent.

These guys are too rough and too eager to take our money. They're not smart enough to cover their tracks. If Facebook can sell or rent our identities without our consent, then what's stopping Mercari from doing the same thing? They're just burying their heads in the sand and hoping they won't get caught.

Not only did they steal my money, but they also stole my products. A customer requested a return, but I couldn't respond because my account was suspended. It's just a total mess.

In conclusion, Mercari is a dirty scam. They'll use any excuse to steal our money. They're behind the scenes manipulating everything, and they think they won't get caught because they're using a PO box. But online scams like this are a federal crime, and the FBI will catch up to them eventually. Don't waste your time with these scumbags.

Mercari Mercari Review: Poor Customer Service and Suspicious Activity

So, I was on the hunt for a promise ring for my beau, and I stumbled upon Mercari. I found a ring that I really liked, and I messaged the seller to inquire about it. However, the next day, the item had been deleted. I was confused, but I kept looking and found another ring that I loved.

My fiance surprised me by buying the second ring without telling me. He downloaded the app, opened an account, and placed the order. However, to our surprise, they cancelled the order and shut down his account for fraudulent activity. We were first-time buyers, so we were shocked.

I decided to message the seller of the second ring through my account, but it was a hassle to find her. I couldn't find a way to favorite or follow the seller, and I had to go through another item to message her. I gave a description of the ring and stated that I wanted to buy it if it was still available.

I read the guidelines again and decided to make a small purchase to build my ratings. I found something under $20, placed an order, and got the confirmation in the app. However, the order was immediately cancelled, and my account was suspended. I tried to contact their customer service, but it was a dead end.

I don't understand how a company with such poor ratings can still operate. It's frustrating that the BBB, FTC, and IRS haven't taken action against them. I won't be using Mercari again, and I hope others will join me in boycotting them.

Mercari Mercari Review: Stick to Small-Time Buying and Selling, Beware of Scammers

I gotta say, I've been around the online buying and selling block for a while now. I've been on eBay since the beginning, both as a buyer and seller, and I've dabbled in small-time selling on Amazon. I even tried out Postmark, but man, that was a disaster. Every single order I placed got cancelled by the sellers. But eBay, they've been pretty good to me. I've only had a couple of seller scammers in the past decade, and their protection for buyers is pretty solid. Of course, now that everyone knows this, the buyer scammers are out in full force, opening up false IND cases or claiming I sent them an empty box. But hey, I just make a USPS insurance claim and watch them scurry away like the little weasels they are.

So when I heard about Mercari, I was intrigued. I read some of the comments from other users and was pretty interested in what they had to say. But then I started reading some of the horror stories. No BBB account, shut down in the UK...yikes. My advice? Stick to small-time buying and selling on Mercari. Don't bother with the expensive stuff, like phones, shoes, designer labels, antiques, or rare items. Take that to eBay. Mercari doesn't seem to protect against scammers.

I bought about 8 items on Mercari, and things were going pretty well until I got an inexperienced seller. I ordered 2 bras for $17, shipping included, as a gift. But when the recipient opened the box, they found a cheap Dollar Tree plastic belt instead. The seller didn't even ship the bras for 3 days, which was weird, and it took another 3 days to get to my box. Then, the seller started blowing up my phone with messages about how she accidentally mailed me the wrong item. If it was a true accident, she would have apologized and refunded me right away. But nope, she wanted me to make the same offer on 2 more bras she just listed, pay the postage to mail the cheap belt back to her, and maybe she would mail the correct bras to me with the newly listed bras, after I'd paid for those too. Oh, and she would "consider" adding $12 cash to the shipment of bras for "all my trouble." It was a mess.

I didn't respond to any of her messages. Instead, I took screenshots of everything and reported the issue to Mercari. Within a day, I had a return label for the $1 belt and mailed it back. Mercari refunded the entire amount to my Master Card, so that was good. But I really think I should have been able to leave feedback for the seller. Unfortunately, the refund negated that for both of us.

After all of this, I'm sticking to very low dollar amounts for Mercari. I've read too many horror stories to risk it. And I don't appreciate how Mercari marks every single complaint against them as being fake on review sites like PissedConsumer. It makes it harder to trust them when they deny there are even issues with their program and system. I mean, they were shut down in the UK, for crying out loud. Instead of fighting honest reviews, they should be fixing their problems.

Mercari Mercari Review: Horrible Customer Support and Fraudulent Products Sold Without Consequences

Mercari is a selling tool that I would not recommend to anyone. They do not take the side of the buyer and allow fraudulent products to be sold without any repercussions to the seller. I had a terrible experience with them when I purchased 2 LOL SURPRISE POP dolls in October. The dolls appeared well since they were sealed, and I could not open them as they were a gift. Mercari only allows 3 days to inspect the product before they release the funds to the seller. I was not expecting anything fraudulent with the product, and I missed the 3-day window to review the product. On Christmas morning, my toddler opened the dolls to find that they were both the same and fake. My 3-year-old noticed the difference, and it was heartbreaking to explain to her why Santa sent her fake dolls.

I called Mercari the following day and sat on hold for 25 minutes. Garrett on the phone was apologetic and said that he would escalate the issue and rectify it. He even offered me a 25% coupon on my account as a courtesy. However, I had tons of pictures and even saved the dolls to return them. I fully explained everything over again and included the photos and got an email back within 24 hours with the Mercari guidelines and procedures. I was frustrated because I already knew the guidelines, and I didn't want to be spoken to like an idiot. They told me to reach out to the seller, but I didn't want to waste my time. The seller had their money, and they would not get punished in any way.

Mercari's customer support is horrible and just reads from a book. They lied to me on the phone to get me off the phone. I asked them to pull my recorded phone conversation with Garrett and to have a manager/supervisor reach out to me ASAP, but I know nothing will be done. This company doesn't help you with any problem that you have. What is the point of giving them a cut from my sales if they can't help me? I would rather use Poshmark, Amazon, or eBay, where they are more than willing to assist a buyer in distress. Mercari lacks the compassion of a frustrated customer.

As soon as my funds are released and sent to my bank, I'm closing down my store and never doing business with them again. I want to share my experiences with everyone so you can avoid working with them and paying them for their lack of service.

Mercari Mercari's Buyer Protection Policy Favors Scammers Over Honest Sellers

I recently had a terrible experience on Mercari that left me feeling disgusted and sickened. I've been a seller on the platform for over two years and have always had excellent ratings, never receiving a return request for any reason. I pride myself on being an honest and reputable seller, but unfortunately, I fell victim to a scammer.

I sold a ring that retailed for $550 for $200 to a buyer who claimed to have cancer and not much money. Feeling sympathetic, I lowered the price to $150. Little did I know that this was all part of her scheme. The ring was a solid stamped 14k gold ring, but the buyer claimed it was gold plated and started complaining about it. When she realized that her story wasn't holding up, she changed it to say that the ring arrived damaged.

I knew I was being scammed, as the ring was new with tags and shipped inside bubble wrap inside of a jewelry box. There was no way it could have been damaged in transit. I fought hard against the claim, sending Mercari proof that showed the buyer changed her story two days later and pictures of the ring in flawless condition before I shipped it. Despite all of this evidence, Mercari approved the return.

I was assured by Mercari customer support that they had my back and would protect me in case the ring arrived back to me in a condition I didn't send it in. However, when I received the ring back, it was ruined beyond repair. The buyer had taken something sharp and completely scratched the ring up, bent it out of shape, took a chunk out of the back of it, and destroyed the prongs so the stones were lopsided and ready to fall out.

I contacted Mercari right away with pictures, but they told me that my pictures matched the buyer's pictures and that the images she sent them showed the same damage. Of course, they did because the buyer damaged it herself! Despite picture proof that I sent it new with tags and flawless, and her changing her story, Mercari claimed that I sent the ring to her that way.

This experience was a rude awakening for me. I now realize that Mercari will never protect their sellers no matter what and will always side with the buyers. They allow illegal activity on their site and cosign the buyer's fraud. What they did was allow this con artist to commit theft and intentional damage of property against me, legally, and there was nothing I could do about it other than warn others.

If my review can help even one person from getting scammed, then it was worth writing this. I caution anyone who wants to sell anything on Mercari to be careful and not sell anything they can't afford to give away or have destroyed because all it takes is getting the wrong buyer, and Mercari won't protect you.

Mercari Nightmare Experience with Mercari's Seller Protection Policy

Mercari's site may seem like a good option, but my experience with them was a nightmare. They claim to have a Seller Protection Policy that protects sellers who use their printed labels up to $200. However, my experience with them was terrible. As a widow and a disabled senior citizen, things went from bad to worse when I mentioned my situation.

The first time I had to deal with their Seller Protection Policy was when they took funds out of my bank card to pay their seller. The seller had deceptively underestimated the shipping costs I was supposed to pay, and when the package arrived, I was supposed to pay $13.65 in additional shipping. I refused to pay, and a few days later, the post office erroneously posted that the package had been delivered. I immediately informed Mercari that I had not received anything, but they told me not to worry and that they would help me work it out if I hadn't received it in three days.

Despite my repeated attempts to tell them that I had not received the package, they took the amount due to the seller from my bank card to pay her on the date they said they would revisit the case and assist me. I had already informed them that I wanted a refund of my funds because I was not going to pay an additional nearly $14.

Team Mercari said that since the post office said it delivered the item, they had to go by that. They suggested that I look into a more secure shipping address, but I had lived at the same address for many years and had never had anything stolen or a package supposedly dropped off that had shipping due.

In less than two days after Team Mercari took funds from my bank card to pay their seller, the post office called to say they found the package. However, instead of paying their seller from their Seller Protection Policy funds, they paid her straight from my bank account. They gave me Mercari credits to make up for it, but as someone who sells things for extra money, I didn't appreciate being given credits that expire in 30 days and that I must use to buy items whether I intended to or not.

My experience with Team Mercari was terrible, and it only got worse when I was the seller. They have a Sellers Protection policy that covers up to $200 in case the item you ship is lost or damaged in transit, but it gets much worse. JB TEAM MERCARI'S SHIPPING SPECIALIST, or at least that's what he calls himself, did something that made my experience even worse.

Mercari Mercari Review: Lack of Respect and Protection for Sellers

Mercari is a platform that I have used for both selling and purchasing items. However, I have encountered some issues with the platform that have left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. One of the biggest issues that I have with Mercari is the lack of respect and protection for sellers. It seems that the platform always sides with the buyers, even when the seller has done everything right.

My first poor experience with a buyer was over a makeup brush. I posted clear close-up photos of the item, described it accurately, and stated everything that I needed to in the description. However, the buyer still requested a refund, claiming that the brush was "not as described", even though the photos clearly showed what she was buying. Mercari did release the funds to me, but they credited the buyer even though she made a false claim. It seems that the buyer is never wrong to them.

My second poor experience is an ongoing dispute with a buyer. I sold an item to a buyer and shipped it the next day. The item was delivered to their post office and was awaiting pickup from them. However, two days had passed, and the buyer had yet to pick up their package. I messaged them, letting them know that it was awaiting pickup, but received no response. Another two days passed, and I messaged them again, asking them to please pick up their package, but still received no response. This buyer was completely ignoring my messages, even though they were on the app uploading listings and rating their own buyers. You would think they could at least reply, saying they would get it in a few days or something, but no. You would also think that they would be more courteous, as they are a seller themselves.

I contacted Mercari about the situation, and they sent the buyer a notification to pick up their package, but the buyer disregarded the message. A week after the package was delivered to the post office, I messaged them once again, telling them to either pick up their package or request it to be returned to me. If they wanted the package, they would have gotten it by now. However, the buyer finally picked up their package and replied to me with a very rude message. I did my part as a seller to ship the package as soon as possible and message them a few days after it was still awaiting pickup. I contacted Mercari again over this issue, but received no help at all.

This is not the first time that something like this has happened with this buyer, judging by their reviews. Five other people have experienced something similar. This buyer has yet to rate me, but judging by their attitude in the message, they will most likely be giving me a "poor" rating, even though I did what I was supposed to do and what Mercari states for sellers to do. This is an issue that needs to be fixed. If there is enough evidence that the buyer or seller has unfairly rated a seller or buyer, Mercari should delete the rating.

Mercari's customer service is poor and a waste of time. They will not help you out at all. There are numerous sellers and buyers with poor ratings stating how they never rate or reply to messages. These types of people should not be allowed on the app, but they still are, making the experience of selling or buying on Mercari unenjoyable. There is not any type of protection for sellers on this site, which is sad, as I do most of my sales through here. I think that they need to start taking the seller's side on certain issues and actually providing help to their customers, not just copying and pasting pre-written messages that do absolutely nothing.

Overall, my experiences with Mercari have left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. If I were to have a worse experience with a buyer than the ones that I have already had, Mercari would do absolutely nothing about it other than side with the buyer like always. I don't think that I will continue to sell on here anymore after these experiences, as it is not worth the headache.

Mercari Mercari Review: A Nightmare of Incorrect Listings, Unreliable Shipping, and Nonexistent Customer Service

I remember when I used to think that Ebay was the worst online marketplace out there. But then I discovered Mercari and boy was I wrong! This platform is a whole new level of bad. It's like they don't even care about their customers or have any oversight whatsoever. Let me tell you about my experience with Mercari so far.

First of all, I would say that about 90% of the listings on Mercari have incorrect product pictures and missing product descriptions. And there are no regulations against this! It's like the sellers can just do whatever they want and get away with it. And if you do end up buying something, the seller can just cancel the order or force you to cancel it if they don't feel like shipping it. And there's nothing you can do about it!

If you have a problem with your order, the most you can do is open an inquiry. But don't expect to talk to a real person. No, you'll be greeted by a machine that only communicates with you through the app. And the solutions they offer are always vague and generalized. And you'll have to wait for weeks at a time to get any kind of resolution.

And don't even get me started on the constant spamming of unsolicited offers and promotions. It's like they're trying to force their name on you. And their privacy guidelines are so shady and difficult to understand.

As for selling on Mercari, I wouldn't recommend it. They charge a lot of fees and even force their own shipping system on you, which is overpriced and unreliable. More than half of my orders never arrived because the system gave the seller the wrong quote for shipment. And when I tried to get a refund, I had to go through even more customer service issues.

Out of the 20 orders I placed, only 10 of them were fulfilled. And out of those 10, only 30% were good enough to keep. The rest had to be returned. And the whole process was just so frustrating and time-consuming.

I was initially drawn to Mercari because of their cheap prices. But it turns out that most of the time, whatever you're searching for is already sold or not available in the right color or condition. And their advertisements are all lies.

I finally decided to put an end to this experiment when I ordered a brushless blower and the seller didn't pay enough to ship it. Mercari wouldn't refund me until the item was returned to the seller. And they even suggested that I track down the item and pay the shipping price difference, even though I didn't ship it in the first place!

The whole app is just so counterintuitive and backwards. I'm deleting my account and uninstalling the app. And I would advise anyone thinking of using Mercari to stay away. There are better platforms out there for buying and selling. Mercari is just not worth the time, money, or stress.

Mercari Mercari Review: Pros and Cons of Buying and Selling on the App

I've been using Mercari since 2015 and have given over 700 ratings. I've sold most of my inventory on the app and occasionally use it to source cheap items to resell. However, there are a few complaints I have about the app.

One issue I've encountered is having to scroll through hundreds of items to delete a listing when an item sells on another platform. A search function would be helpful to narrow down keywords and quickly delete listings. Additionally, items get pushed to the bottom quickly, and the best way to get them to the top is to relist them often. A "bump" feature or simple relist function would be a great addition to the app.

Unfortunately, some Mercari buyers can be difficult to deal with. I've had experiences with people offering low prices, asking when I'm going to ship, and canceling after haggling for an hour. It's frustrating to deal with these types of buyers, but they exist on all buying/selling platforms. I would caution against selling high dollar items on the app due to the prevalence of scammers. However, I've never had any issues when shipping on my own and requiring signature confirmation.

Customer service responses can be lacking, and Mercari doesn't allow returns for sizing issues. Buyers can also be slow to rate, even after asking you to ship promptly. It's important to be patient and provide measurements of clothing items to ensure proper fit.

Inexperienced sellers can also be frustrating to deal with. Some provide poor quality photographs and vague descriptions of items. I've received items described as "good" or "very good" with stains or damage. It's important to ask questions and request returns when necessary.

Despite these issues, there are some positive experiences to be had on Mercari. Some buyers are appreciative and rate promptly. There are also no returns for frivolous reasons or sizing issues. Payment is fairly quick, and you can use your selling balance to purchase items on the app. Additionally, there are occasional bargains to keep or resell.

Overall, Mercari has its flaws, but it can be a useful platform for buying and selling items. It's important to be cautious and patient when dealing with buyers and sellers, but there are opportunities to make money and find great deals.

Mercari Bait & switch scam

On May 9, 2023, I bought a black & decker hedge trimmer from Mercari & its dishonest seller Moritha Salgado pulling a bait & switch scam on me. The listing says "new, never used, just in open box, perfect condition". The item I received on May 17, 2023 is the garbage version. Used, scuffed, scratched, leaking oil & not in the original box with no user instructions and does not look like the item shown in the photos in the listing. Mercari & its scum seller wants me to do all the legwork for the returns to get a full refund. Instead of correcting their mistake, Mercari refuses to send a return shipping label & arrange for the pickup from the courier turning their scam into my nightmare. I believe, I should not be held responsible for correcting Mercari's mistake & the sellers bait & switch scam they pulled on me. Mercari will not honor their buyer protection instead they shield & protect their dishonest sellers to continue to be in business to scam more buyers in their platform.

Desired outcome: Honor their buyer protection by issuing a full refund after getting scammed by one of their dishonest sellers who sends items out that do not match what was in the listing.

They used to be better. I been having a lot of problems with this app, the latest was a dress with mold that they refused to give me my money back. I also noticed they are not part of the BBB anymore. They have been making a lot of changes, I don't feel safe buying there anymore. I'll stay with Amazon, ebay and Poshmark.

Mercari Mercari would not let me return and incorrect item

I received a pair of Buffbunny leggings 05/06 that did not match the listed item from user AIHCONCEPTS. I contacted Mercari Support multiple times (05/06-05/08) and sent them images that showed the user’s listing had no front seam and the item I received had a front seam with other subtle differences. Mercari said that I received the correct listing despite my proof and Mercari gave the seller a 5 star rating.

Desired outcome: A refund or the ability to return the incorrect item.

Mercari Incorrect item in order received and returned without refund.

I ordered an item from seller V3nom3enom on 04/14/2023. The item was shipped on 4/19/2023. The item i received in the mail did not match the item that was listed. Mercari stated that the final day to drop off the return package for delivery was 4/29/2023. I dropped it off at a UPS on 04/28/2023, and it was delivered on May 1. Mercari paid the seller and closed my transaction stating i did not meet the deadline to return the item. Even though the item was returned and the app shows it was sent back and delivered to the seller, they are allowing the seller to keep both the item and the funds used to purchase the item. I tried to reach out to the seller but it appears that they no longer will respond to my messages.

Desired outcome: I would like either the item i purchased, the funds to be returned, or a credit from Mercari to be used for future purchases.

Mercari Invasive intrusion into my conversations with my buyers and hindering my ability to earn an income

Its been happening since I started selling and buying at this place. Their scope of monitoring and the degree of intrusion, are not justifiable by legitimate means, and is in violation of Article 8. Its privacy infringement, invasive and I resent having my harmless messages to my customers deleted.

You do not have the right to interfere with my ability to earn a income or how I establish solid relationships with my customers. The law restricts the interception and monitoring of oral, wire and electronic communications unless certain conditions, such as a legitimate business purpose and an sellers consent to monitor, are met. Court rulings on common laws relating to the right to privacy impact how and whether workplace monitoring is allowed.

Businesses are prohibited from using workplace monitoring to interfere, restrain or intimidate sellers who are exercising their rights protected by the law. When the policing of my messages to a client, get deleted, and they do not reveal any seller information, that is not permitted. That is not monitoring that is policing and a over-reach, both of which are prohibited and violates Article 8.

Desired outcome: they ruined several client relationships and ruined my reputation to where it hindered my ability to earn an income. $2000 for the 2 clients they ruined for me, and loss of sales they caused.

Mercari Ring doorbell

Mercari doesnt stand behind their buyers at all. Cally112 sold me a used, defective Ring doorbell that was listed as new. When the installer hooked up the device it didn't work. I contacted the seller and Mercari. Mercari said I had 3 days from when it was delivered to file something, Really? The seller accused me of lying even though I offered to send the purchase receipt of the Ring I had to buy at Home depot. Never again with this awful company.

Desired outcome: Refund

Mercari Collecting money for items I sold on their web site.

I sold some items on Mercari. They won't pay me for sales I already made. They had no problem paying me for months and now they claim I had unusual activity on my account, which is not true at all. The only activity was me trying to collect my money from sales I already made. I've been sending emails for weeks now and the only answers I get are totally useless and don't do anything. I still haven't been paid for things I sold. They have my money and won't give it to me and won't fix anything so I can collect my money.

Desired outcome: I want my money for the items I already sold on their site.

I did NOT receive the above item from Marsha O' Field, a seller for Mercari, but instead I received 2 cups that were NOT what I ordered. The 2 cups Marsha O' Field sent are absolutely disgusting with no distinguishable pattern! The Queen of Prussia cups were to match a portrait plate that I own bearing the same queen. Marsha obviously dumped on me what she couldn't get rid of in her inventory!

The dishonest company that mercari is, they have successfully achieved finding ways via the Internet of not allowing you to contact the seller or their customer service department successfully, unless of course you call their 800 number and hit the "fraud" prompt (#6). You are then connected to a rep who patiently talks with you, then they forward your complaint to their Returns Department. This department sends an email telling you of their policy which is that you must review the item within 72-hours. If you don't do that, Mercari does it for you! Once a review has been made--whether it be by your or them--the case is closed, and you are SOL. We were not here to receive the package, let alone open it, so we are SOL!

Desired outcome: The items that I ordered OR a full reimbursement including the cost for shipping.

Marsha O'Brien Field

Marsha is a crook! She sent 2 disgusting espresso cups that were NOT what I ordered. I smelled a rat as soon as she was not back in touch to accept my $2 less offer. My husband warned me not to do business with Mercari because of dishonest sellers such as her.

Desired outcome: I demand either the correct cups or a refund.

About Mercari

Screenshot Mercari
Mercari is a popular online marketplace that allows users to buy and sell a wide range of products. The platform was founded in Japan in 2013 and has since expanded to the United States and the United Kingdom. Mercari has quickly become a go-to destination for people looking to sell their unwanted items or find great deals on secondhand goods.

One of the key features of Mercari is its user-friendly interface. The platform is designed to be easy to use, even for people who are not tech-savvy. Sellers can quickly create listings for their items, while buyers can easily browse through the available products and make purchases with just a few clicks.

Another advantage of Mercari is its wide range of product categories. Users can buy and sell everything from clothing and accessories to electronics and home goods. This makes it a great place to find unique items that may not be available in traditional retail stores.

Mercari also offers a secure and reliable payment system. When a buyer makes a purchase, the payment is held in escrow until the item is delivered. This helps to protect both buyers and sellers from fraud and ensures that transactions are completed smoothly.

Overall, Mercari is a great option for anyone looking to buy or sell items online. With its user-friendly interface, wide range of product categories, and secure payment system, it's no wonder that Mercari has become such a popular platform for online shopping.
