faulty handset
I took delivery of a Nokia N8 on 29/10/2011 and the phone started giving me problems hardly a week later. it started freezing & I had to wait till the battery dies before it can be recharged & work again. I reported this on 07/09/2011 (ref# [protected]) to MTN Direct & was told to return the phone at my nearest MTNSP. On Saturday 09/09/2011 I was in Johannesburg so I went to MTNSP in Rivonia Rd, Sandton. They told me I was supposed to hand in the phone within 10 days to get a new one, they can now only book it in for repairs, which will take 1-2wks. How can I stay so long without a phone & why can't I get a replacement phone because they gave me a faulty device & Section 55 & 56 of the CPA clearly states my right to good quality goods & a 6 month warranty for return of faulty goods? There are many other faults that I keep discovering about this mobile

poor service
I handed in my phone at mtn [protected]@reds on 22 august 2011. On tuesday, 30 august 2011, I called to find out when I will be getting my phone back. I spoke to philip and he told me that the phone has been replaced and is ready to be dispatched and will be back at the store on the thursday or the latest, friday 2 september 2011.
I called on the thursday and on the friday and still I was told that the phone is at the service centre, ready for dispatch.
On monday, 5 september 2011, I called again and was told again that it is at dispatch. When I then started to complain and moan, grant called me back and told me that there was a misunderstanding between the store and the service centre but that it was sorted out and that I will receive my phone today (6 september 2011).
I called the whole day and eventually drove to the store only to find that they are migrating their systems and will only open at 3pm. After 3pm i, once again, called without answer and then drove there again! I then spoke to ian who told me that my phone is still at dispatch!
When I asked him how long I still have to phone, he said that he is waiting for them to call him. This is not good enough! I use my phone for business and pay r60pm for the blackberry service which I havent used now for half of that month already!. I also have to pay for emails and sms'es as I usually dont pay when I use my blackberry!
It is shocking that no one is prepared to go out of the way to assist me as a customer!
I have no way of getting my phone directly from the service centre and have to rely on the store's staff who isn't willing to go out of their way for a customer who calls them every day!

I actually have had enough of them. I thought they wanted to have my business, instead the stuff can't even talk to customers, let alone sign you up for a new contract. Don't do me any favours, I will go elsewhere.

fraudulent contract / account opened in my name
On 19 Aug 2011 I received a call from ITC who said I owed MTN a huge amount of money. After questioning MTN, I found out that my old contract (which was closed more than two years ago) is still on the MTN system and that there is another fraudulent account loaded with all my details, except for my real address and contact phone numbers of course! So guess what, MTN handed me over to ITC and I did not even sign this contract. FICA and RICA is supposed to protect you from all this crap? I submitted relevant documents to MTN on 19 Aug and received a USD number. I also submitted relevant documents to ITC on 22 Aug, which ITC would forward to MTN for investigation. Until today no one from MTN or their Forensic Investigations Department has contacted me. As to the info which was displayed to me on the MTN system, I could see that all my details were copied exactly as from my old contract, only the address and contact details have been changed. Who else than MTN has access to this exact same information. SO MTN, who gives you the right to hand me over? I want my name cleared in full at ITC (Transunion) and Experian within 7 days.

trouble getting money
Good day trust that you are well, i am having an trouble getting my money back from MTN. they still deducted money from my bank account even though i canceled the contract last year in November. already its 5 months back and now having trouble with them getting my money back that they deducted, its the 3rd week now that i am phoning them every time with the same story that it has to go to there MTN banking department. from there on it should reflect on there side and then they can pay the money back. but this takes up to 3 working days and that i should phone back in say 2 days time but “they will get it processed”. then when i phone back its the whole story over again and from start, i want to get this resolved and that money back in my account from MTN asap please.
arrear account 11 months???
My cellphone services has been discontinued yesterday. Can you believe it - my account is apparantly 11 months in arrears
I have a top up package - (According to mtn the limit on my account is r11 000) I though the limits on phones has been discontinued. ? I have the contract for 11 months now - and according to them I have never paid - although my account shows every month that there is no arrears on the account? Now they are demanding a payment of almost r5000. ? This phone should have been cut off when the 1st months payment were not received. Why was I never contacted? Why was no arrear amount reflecting on my statement?This is shocking and rediculous... They should be adhering to the cpa - I would love to see how they tend to explain this one away?

no delivery, no service
On 3 august my order for a blackberry kepler 9300 through mtn direct was approved. I have received numerous sms's from mtn direct, promising delivery of the p**ne. Today I spent most of the day trying to track my order and to get someone to tell me if they will deliver today. I have now been waiting for this p**ne for almost two weeks. It's already 14h45 on a friday, so I doubt that it will be delivered this afternoon. Not once did any driver call me for directions, I even emailed a map and directions to my delivery address to rtt couriers. Whenever I call mtn customer service, they can't help and just give me the number for rtt couriers. When I call rtt couriers, they cannot even track the order, after I provided them with the waybill number! This is the worst service i've had in years - every mtn customer service consultant I speak to promises to call me back - i'm still waiting. My fight with mtn started at 09h00 this morning and it has still not ended. I can go to any vodacom s**p and have the p**ne today, so I don't know why i'm even bothering with mtn. Can anyone from mtn please call me before 16h00 today. Consumer act!
illegal porting of cell c number
When I tried to make a call today I received a message that outgoing calls are barred. Thinking there is a problem with my RICA I confirmed with Cell C that all was in order. Yes, RICA is fine but your number has been ported to MTN. What?Why? MTN requested that my number be ported. After hours on the phone (wife’s phone) with Cell c and MTN, it was established that MTN needs to cancell the port in order for Cell C to re-activate my number…However, MTN says their department responsible for number porting only works from Monday to Friday and I should wait for Monday and then they will try to assist. As the executive head of sales I need to receive critical business calls which did not materialise.
After explaining that they incorrectly initiated the process and that I need their help to get this sorted as soon as possible, the attention went to pushing blame to Cell C as appose to fixing the problem. After asking if any manager for MTN can assist over the weekend to just cancel the port..well..NO..There is NO MTN manager that can assist Friday night, nor Saturday nor Sunday. I am camping tomorrow at MTN 14th avenue Johannesburg with my tent UNTIL this issue is resolved.
illegal deduction of my entire credit
I got my mobile line [protected] credited this afternoon via sell & share in the sum of n200 no sooner than my account was credited that I found out that mtn debited the whole of the credit I e n200 without making a call this is not the fisrst time it. two screw ups in a row
I gave my blackberry 9300 in to mtn to repair, two weeks later I phone them tp follow up what's going on, so they tell me I can collect my new phone. Have to take time off work to do so, I went to collect my phone, when I got there, tried to switch my new replacement phone on, the new replacement phone is broken, they have to send in the replacement phone to be repaired! So today they phone I can collect my phone, taking off work again to do so, I get to mtn, all excited, the phone works and all... Get to work, realize its a blackberry 8520 and not a 9300. Now I have to take the 8520 in wait another how many weeks for a new phone. Aren't they suppose to check the phone whenn they send it the 1st time and what is the excuse this time! Every time the inconvenience of sitting without a phone. And there is no number you can complain about this service or lack of competence!

unauthorised deduction
An amount of about r200.00 has been deducted from my airtime which I have not authorised. I have called mtn to advise them of this and all they said is that they can't help me. I am not the only one complaining about this and I have sent 3 sms advising this fraud company called nsfw mob to stop then I get a return sms saying that I am subscribed for r20.00 a day. Mtn has unqualified, bad and some staff members who do not know what they do. I have applied for a contract phone online, and it's been two weeks I haven't received that phone. No one seems to care about me, they always make promises that my phone will be delivered to me through the so called useless rtt company. I have decided to cancel that contact over the phone, and they told me stories that I did not even want to hear. Mtn is nothing but a useless corporation that employs useless people. Jesus will come back without showing us the reason behind mtn's bad customer care.

cancellation of contract [protected]
Since 2002 I had two cellphone MTN contracts. Laste year November (2010) I have cancelled the contract of [protected] electronically and I personally went to Wonderpark Shopping Centre in Pretoria North to cancell the contract.
The attendant there looked on their computer and confirmed that the contract will be cancelled. Up till now, I still receive a billing for the account for the amount of R143.00.
I will appreciate you immediate attention to this matter, instruction to MTN that the monthly payments by error, will be paid back to me within 5 working days and written confirmation that this matter is now duely cancelled.

poor service
I went to apply for a contract at ottery mtn on the 25/05/11 and was assisted by a shameega. She advised that the application would take between 24-48hours to process and that I would get the phone then. When I called 2 days later she was not there and she had handed my application over to wanita. Both of these ladies were completely clueless and not very helpful at all and the shireenwho answered the telephone most times had no telephone etiquette. She was just as hopeless. I waited up to friday 10th june for my phone and still did not get it and when I got to the store wanita still had my application in her hand and no phone to show for it and then I cancelled. Now I am sitting with a problem with my sim which they went and changed over from vodacom to mtn, don't these people know what cancelled means, I think they need training and customer liaison skills and they do not phone you back they expect you to call them. They are blaming everything on mtn's new system, that is not the customers problem. Mtn sort out your staff with proper training and people skills. Their service is a total disgrace.

I bought cell phone contract at mtn rusteburg on 2008 and I gave the access to debit monthly instalment for the period of 24 months, all of a sudden they stopped debitting theire money on my account. I asked them several time why you stopped deducting the money. Now they took my name to the debt collectors without teelling me that my account is left behind. Please assist and I want to speak to theire manager or ceo of this company.
incorrect listing on itc
MTN has handed me over to attorneys incorrectly. My contract expired in August 2010, I called them to remove my number and change my contract to prepaid, which was done. I received a statement in August which had an amount due; which I called again to query and was assured it was resolved. In December 2010 I received an e-mail on the 07/12/2010 from VVM Attorneys threatening to list me on ITC unless I make a full payment of R792.12. On the 08/12/2010 I made a payment of R794.00 to the lawyers and e-mailed the proof of payment (attached) to: [protected]@vvm.co.za to confirm. This morning I contacted VVM Attorneys and spoke to Teboho, who advised me that their records are now finalised, this was resolved and the data has now been archived. My wifes phone Nokia E66 experienced speaker trouble on 13 August 2009. The phone was only 5 months old and we booked the phone with our local Mtn in Boksburg for repairs. The phone was received back after 2 weeks and had exactly the same trouble. It was booked again with the same branch. (job no. 9940 - 27 August 2009).The phone has since came back 3 times from repairs but it is now in an even worse condition. Surely Mtn must replace the handset with a similar but new. What about the fact that we had no handset since 14 August but paid the full subscription? The subscription surely included the handset. Please assist if you can.
