MyTaxPrepOffice Software Review: False Promises and Frustrating Errors in Tax Preparation
As a tax preparer, I was approached by a MyTaxPrepOffice salesman who oversold the product as being comparable to the well-known software, Drake. Unfortunately, after using the software throughout the tax season, it became clear that the salesman's description was misleading and full of false promises.
The errors in the software were numerous and frustrating. It seemed to struggle with basic calculations such as EIC, and the software often failed to properly pro-forma information to worksheets. Regrettably, every single return that I completed using MyTaxprepOffice encountered an error that needed to be fixed. I even lost a $750 return due to the software failing to fix an error in the 1065 application for almost three weeks.
Despite the salesman's claims, the MyTaxPrepOffice software is nowhere near the level of the Drake software, which I will be switching back to. From what I gathered over the course of the tax season, the MyTaxPrepOffice software was even developed by someone who lacked familiarity with the tax laws and codes.
To add insult to injury, I needed to amend several returns due to errors on MyTaxPrepOffice and the returns were not even e-filed, yet they were provided with a submission ID. This caused additional time and money to be wasted.
Worse yet, my client was fined a late fee for not filing their NY LLC return, even though MyTaxPrepOffice provided a submission ID and accepted the submission. According to NYS, the submission ID was only attached to the personal NY return, not the LLC.
In conclusion, MyTaxPrepOffice was a complete nightmare that ended up costing me both time and money. The overall quality of the product was far from what I had been promised during the initial sales pitch, and I now consider it to be nothing more than a waste of my hard-earned money.
MyTAXPrepOffice: Cheap But Not Worth The Hassle - A Review
As an individual who has utilized the MyTAXPrepOffice software, I must say that my personal experience has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. While the price point may seem attractive, it is clear that the old adage - you get what you pay for - holds true in this case. The software is plagued with issues that make it virtually unusable. In less than a month of using the software, I had already encountered various problems. From constant crashing and failure to save data, to clients complaining about issues with the portal for uploading tax documents, it's evident that the software has significant shortcomings.
As if the product itself wasn't bad enough, the customer service and support I received was just as disappointing. Attempting to obtain a refund was a complete nightmare. It took multiple attempts and an unreasonable amount of time just to receive a response. When I finally did manage to get in touch with someone, I was notified that my request for a refund had been denied, despite the clear issues with their product's functionality. Their refusal to provide a reasonable solution was frustrating, but what really struck me was the treatment received from customer service representatives during the process. They were dismissive and unprofessional, even going so far as to accuse me of lying and attempting to retain my funds. It was all so disheartening, particularly given the circumstances.
In conclusion, I would never recommend MyTAXPrepOffice under any circumstances. While the cheap price point may look appealing, the product and support simply aren't worth the hassle. There are numerous other options available that are both customer-friendly and effective, so save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere.
MyTAXPrepOffice Review: Integration Issues Cause $3,000 Penalty and Weak State Modules
As a seasoned user of MyTAXPrepOffice (mytaxprepoffice.com), I would like to share my experience with the software. First off, I commend the creators for undertaking such a monumental task in creating a comprehensive tax preparation software. However, after using it for the third or maybe fourth year, I have encountered a major issue. One of my clients, who happens to have a significant net worth, incurred a penalty of $3,000 due to a miscalculation caused by the software's failure to integrate certain forms properly. This is in sharp contrast to other software like ProSeries which I have used before, that has no issues with integration.
Perhaps even more distressing is the software's weak state modules. Being based in Illinois, I am no stranger to the challenge of interpreting confusing tax error codes. Unfortunately, MyTAXPrepOffice's error codes are indecipherable and almost cryptic, only making the situation worse. I have had numerous returns that initially passed the EFILE check but bounced later on, even when compared to ProSeries which is a software I generally recommend despite the higher cost.
One of my biggest complaints is that even when an error occurs, the system does not let users cut and paste the error codes for easy reference or verification. Until these issues are addressed, the software would only be suitable for basic 1040s or users with extensive experience in tax preparation. It's unfortunate to say, but as a verified customer, I am dissatisfied and somewhat disheartened by this experience.

Avoid MyTAXPrepOffice - Poor Performance & Unforgiving Refund Policy
MyTAXPrepOffice is a tax preparation software that many people turn to during tax season for a reliable and easy-to-use program. However, one customer had a negative experience that they wanted to share. They purchased the software in November and were not completely sold on it, but the promise of being able to work remotely made them ultimately decide to go for it. Unfortunately, once the tax season started, the program crashed immediately and continued to malfunction for several days. Although technical support stated that the issue had been fixed, the program continued to be slow and unstable, which was unacceptable for the customer, who needed to complete returns on a daily basis without falling behind. They requested a refund, but the policy is so strict that after 14 days, no refund is possible. This leaves customers like this one in a difficult position, with software that doesn't perform and no recourse for getting their money back. The customer is frustrated and disappointed that their negative experience has ruined their entire tax season, and they ultimately had to purchase another program to move forward. They have no qualms about urging others to stay away from MyTAXPrepOffice and hope that sitejabber will consider including a zero-star option for reviews like theirs.
Disappointing Experience with MyTAXPrepOffice: Incomplete Forms, Manual Overrides, and Required Entries Not Triggered
At first, I had some concerns about the MyTAXPrepOffice program. I reached out to the company with an intent to cancel my service after a sales manager was quite rude to me. Despite my concerns, I decided to give the program a shot based on the promise that e-filing would be easier. Unfortunately, it is now March 15, 2019, and the tax forms necessary to file for an S-Corp in Indiana still aren't ready - this includes page one of the Indiana IT-20S. While the company has indicated that these issues will be resolved in time for the return to be filed, it is frustrating to have to go to clients and explain that we'll need to file their federal returns today and their state returns later.
In addition to this major issue, we've also encountered a number of other problems with the software. For example, there are items that require manual overrides because they are incorrectly inserted from somewhere else. Additionally, there are times when forms that should be generated based on certain entries don't get triggered, and required entries on forms aren't always required by the program.
Overall, I had high hopes for the MyTAXPrepOffice program, but unfortunately, the reality has been disappointing. Instead of making our work easier, this program's shortcomings have actually led us to purchase another package so that we can complete our returns. This has not only cost us extra money but also significant time. If you're considering using MyTAXPrepOffice, it's important to know that it may not live up to even the most modest of expectations.
MyTAXPrepOffice Software Review: Inefficient and Overpriced with Erroneous Calculations
The MyTAXPrepOffice software (mytaxprepoffice.com) has faced some criticism from one user who experienced numerous issues when using the system. In their opinion, the software is not only inefficient but also grossly overpriced. The user complained about the erroneous calculations in some of the returns which were off by up to $100s, causing them great difficulty in explaining to their clients why there were discrepancies in their returns.
To compound the frustration, the supposed "manager" whom they contacted was not helpful and only added to the user's dissatisfaction with the company. The refund policy is also questionable as the user was required to write a letter, which took time, and was still met with difficulty in getting a return on their investment. This was a sharp contrast to the advertised policy when they were initially sold on the software. The user was stranded with no other option but to buy another software package to get their business back on track.
The MyTAXPrepOffice may advertise the cheapest prices in the industry, but clearly, this user feels that the software is not worth the expense. The software lacks the necessary features to ensure seamless tax preparation in all 50 states as advertised. They also pointed out that many states only allow traditional paper filings, which undermines the purpose of investing in software to streamline the tax preparation process.
Overall, the user had much regret about purchasing the Unlimited Package, which they feel was a complete waste of their hard-earned money. They advise anyone intending to start or maintain a profitable tax business to steer clear of MyTAXPrepOffice as the software is not only inefficient but also costly.
MyTAXPrepOffice Review: Decent Software with Some Issues and Good Customer Support
As a seasoned tax accountant with over 40 years of experience, I have used a variety of tax preparation software throughout the years. For the past three tax seasons, I have been using MyTAXPrepOffice and have had a relatively positive experience overall. While I have avoided some of the issues other reviewers have encountered, 2017 was a particularly frustrating year. That being said, the customer service team at MyTAXPrepOffice was able to assist me through it.
One of my main complaints with this software pertains to the State portion. As a tax accountant in Virginia, I have noticed that the software tends to miscalculate the allocation between spouses. Last year, I had several returns that calculated a state refund, only to later receive a letter from the State stating that the return had been corrected. This was an incredibly embarrassing situation for me, and I was disappointed with the way the software calculated these returns. I truly hope that the 2019 software has addressed this issue.
In terms of pricing, I used to use Drake software exclusively and still believe it to be the best on the market. However, now that I'm semi-retired and don't prepare as many returns, I find that Drake would be too expensive for me to continue using. MyTAXPrepOffice is a more affordable option for my current business needs.
One area of concern for me is the lack of knowledgeable customer support staff. It seems as if their chat feature could benefit from more people who understand taxes to answer inquiries. Sometimes it takes me a while to get an answer to my questions, which can be frustrating and slow down my preparation time.
Overall, I cautiously recommend MyTAXPrepOffice to other tax accountants who prepare less than 100 returns. If this year's returns continue to present the same problems, I may consider returning to Drake for their pay-per-return for small businesses and pass the cost along to my clients.
MyTAXPrepOffice: Great Concept, Poor Execution - A Review
When it comes to MyTAXPrepOffice, I have to say that although the concept is great, unfortunately the execution doesn't quite match up. I had a relatively painless conversion, but I estimate that I lost around 20% of my clients during the time that I have been using MyTAXPrepOffice. This is mainly due to a number of problems that have arisen over the years. Firstly, customer service has been a big issue. In 2017 and 2018, it was timely, but in 2019 it has been ridiculous in terms of response time. The online option often requires waiting for 20+ minutes and the phone service is similarly terrible.
On top of that, there have been issues with certain aspects of tax returns not being able to be processed by the software. For example, in 2018 the import of stock transactions didn't work and I had to wait weeks for help with the return of a client that ended up being lost for 2019. No one was able to resolve the issue in the MyTAXPrepOffice office. I faced a similar problem in 2019 with my first return when I tried to take a Section 179 election for one asset. To this date, the issue has not been resolved with continued calls and promises of research and sales follow up from customer service representatives.
To make matters worse, no one in customer service will follow up with clients even when they promise to call back. This has left me feeling very frustrated as a long-time user of the software. Leaving my old vendor in 2016, I have found that MyTAXPrepOffice has been a disaster for me overall. Finally, to add insult to injury, the 2019 state software wasn't ready until two months in.
Overall, unless MyTAXPrepOffice makes some major changes to its programming and quality, customer service, staffing, and pricing, I cannot see it being an effective or viable operation. The revenue collected does not seem to be going towards improving the software, but rather it seems to be stagnating or getting worse. #prayforme
Frustrating Experience with MyTAXPrepOffice - Not Recommended for Timely Return Filing
My experience with MyTAXPrepOffice has been frustrating to say the least. Despite having a top-of-the-line internet connection and disabling any virus and firewall protections, I still had to endure excruciatingly long wait times for the servers to download. The program is full of great features, but unfortunately they are useless when the software takes four times as long to complete a simple return. As the complexity of the return increases, so does the time it takes for new form downloads, resulting in a sluggish performance.
Although I can only recommend this software to experienced tax preparers with a thorough understanding of tax forms and who are only dealing with simple, uncomplicated returns, even they should not expect to complete a return in a timely manner with this software. The prospect of completing a return with a client sitting in front of you while having to endure wait times and page unresponsiveness multiple times is an unbearable thought.
I would strongly advise ensuring that the software performs as expected and not rely on it to be 100% accurate. However, it is a nice relief that the program allows you to override it in most instances should any issues arise.
I switched to this software as I am in my twilight years of providing tax preparation services to my clients, and could not justify the high cost of a full blown tax package as the number of tax returns I prepare has naturally decreased over the years. Regrettably, the cost savings were not worth the frustrating issues associated with this software.
Mixed Feelings about MyTAXPrepOffice: A Review
As someone who has used MyTAXPrepOffice in the past, I must say that I have mixed feelings about the software. On the one hand, I love the concept behind the program - the dashboard is incredibly user-friendly and the chat function is extremely helpful. Additionally, the ability to EFILE my returns is a major plus.
However, there is a major downside to the program as well. Specifically, the Corporate State forms do not always foot properly. This has caused me a lot of headaches, as I've had to use other programs to ensure that my returns are accurate. This is particularly frustrating considering that I paid for this software in the first place - I expected it to be able to handle all of my state filing needs.
To make matters worse, when I requested a refund due to these issues, I was completely ignored. This left me feeling frustrated and ripped off.
All that being said, MyTAXPrepOffice does work well for personal taxes at the Federal and State level - just be sure to double check the figures before submitting your returns. Additionally, if you are in a state without state filing requirements, this program will probably work great for you.
Overall, I have to say that I am hesitant to recommend MyTAXPrepOffice. The state and calculation issues need to be fixed before I would consider using the program again.
Review: MyTaxPrepOffice - Attractive Pricing, But Prone to Errors
As a tax preparation provider, we wanted to try out MyTaxPrepOffice because of its cloud-based platform and attractive pricing. However, after using it, we noticed several errors that concerned us. To be sure, we tested the software against our previous provider and found even more issues with the returns we prepared on MyTaxPrepOffice.
Although their customer service team was very responsive, they were unable to address the errors immediately. We had to submit a ticket and wait for a few days before someone from their expert team could assist in fixing the issue. While they've made progress in addressing the errors, it's been a continuous process of notifying them and waiting for resolution.
Unfortunately, because of the prevalence of errors we discovered, we cannot rely on MyTaxPrepOffice as our sole tax preparation software. We're now in the process of finding a more reliable option for next tax season, even though we're disappointed that we won't be using MyTaxPrepOffice, at least for now. We noticed that most of the errors that we came across were in the preparation of corporate tax returns with the hope that the software's overall reliability can improve in the future.
