I received a letter stating to call the following number to be entered into a sweepstakes giving them my registered prize entry number [protected]. I made the call and was conned into purchasing magazines at the rate of 1.29 per week for all the magazines and they said they would bill my bank account for 67.08 for 4 months and I would receive magazines for 48 months. I was told that I could cancel the order within 3 days. The number given [protected] which I attempted to and received no answer. My account has been debited june 13, 2008. I was not aware until I got online and found out that this company has defrauded me and want the order cancelled and my account credited back. I felt pushed into this by their operators and supervisor. I am currently totally disabled with multiple sclerosis and have shingles which I am heavily medicated for the pain and was taken by surprise. I realize that if I had not been medicated I would not have agreed to the sale or given my information out. I thought I was entering a sweepstakes for $2, 100, 000.00. I was told I could cancel within 3 days and they already took the monthly payment out of my account.
I want this cancelled and my account credited immediately. I wish I had checked out this company before but was not thinking right when I spoke to them. When you are lied to and cheated under the pretense of this being a sweepstakes with no purchase required. Being disabled with ms and on a fixed income I am not able to afford such a expendature. I need you to make sure that others like myself are not drawn into such schemes and fraud. I have learned a lesson that there are too many companies out there preying on the elderly and disabled people. It is imparepatived that my account be cancelled and my money returned to my account. Sincerely yours, karen stone

I called to confirm contest. Got talked into 48 months of magazines. I am retired and only have social security and many health problems. I received a bill for 4 payments of 67.08. They already took first payment out of my account. I called again to cancel order and got no for an answer.I would like my money refunded. What kind of program do you run to fraud people out of their existence.I need my money back. Claudia Wilkerson

I have tried to cancel this order to NME but instead they reduced the amount of months I would get billed for. Then I received an nsf charge plus a bill for the balance of $120.62. I have overdraft protection so I know this is a scam and I want out immediately. I do not want the magazines nor do I want any money taken out of my VISA account. If any money is taken out, I will contact my lawyer so please save us both the time and trouble by just taking my name off your list.
Please reply by letter or email that this is done. My customer # is [protected], Order#[protected] for Julie Haase.

My comment is above and my attitude will be fine if you comply with my request and take off my name before the $120 is withdrawn from my Visa.

I mistakenly thought I was enrolling in a contest to win 2 million

dollars. I got quickly switched to some fast-talking guy who promised

to throw in a diamond watch and some more magazines, and before I

knew it, I was paying out 67.08 a month for a few magazines, which

is a substantial amount to pay in a year. It is my own fault for

allowing a swindler access to my account, and it would be hard to

prove in court that they were operating illegally, but just the same, I

felt taken for a ride! Beware of any "sweepstakes" entries! You could

end up paying for more than you ever receive.

I am not going to pay for all these. Was anyone else promised a set of watches as the Free gift? Gimme a break this is a scam and it is sad. It is amazing what companies will do to make a buck. I don't even read the stupid magazines. who reads FOOD and WINE? I was promised things and didn't recieve them. I was entered into the "fake" contest. What a scam.

The problem with most of you is you don't listen. I handle collections for NME thru a reputable debt company and most of the people in debt over this NME company don't even listen to me so its obvious at jump street how you got "scammed". You thought you wre getting something for nothing and guess what? Very few things work that way. Learn to say NO! We have the web these days and every possible outlet to understand what companies are before we holler out our card numbers like brainless maniacs! If you can sit here and type all this mess, you can research and make healthy decisions without getting caught up in stuff like this. Then again you people are the reason debt collectors have jobs and that NME is so successful. Keep doing what you do and they will continue to prosper! This little crybaby complaint board does NOTHING. Get a brain and think.

Ok I just got off the phone with NME. I called about their stupid sweepstakes because like you I"M STUPID obviously thinking you can be entered into a sweepstake for nothing. I thought a dollar a week was fine for a bunch of magazines so I joined. We'll the magazines never stopped coming after my subscription was supposed to have ended and I DID cancel 3 times with different people from there company but the magazines kept coming. So I moved to another city and I just got a from NME saying that I now HAVE to renew my subscription for 59.99 a month for 12 months. I specifically asked if I could just cancel for good and their SUPERVISOR says "no your too far in you should've canceled in 2008" which I DID! LUCKILY the guy who calls to finalize the the payment and subscription calls and I tell him what the supervisor told me. He immediately said that's not true and its a free country you don't have to renew so he canceled the renewal. I suggest if you want out just keep track of what everyone tells you and make sure to tell the next person if you feel cheated. They don't take being called a scam well and run for the hills if you threaten any unlawful conduct on their part.

Call [protected].

I had to go through my bank and get the phone number though my bank statements.
I hope that helps anyone who is upset over this.

I was also told that you may cancel at any time.

THEY ARE A SCAM!
But thankfully the nice customer service operator at the phone number that @Tinile gave [protected]) was able to let me know that my account was successfully cancelled and I do not have an account with them. I even informed her that I had a $22.36 charge on my bank account (I was online) and she asked if I had called in within the past few days and I said that I had just dealt with them today. She assured me that that money was just on hold and would not go through.
My gut feeling was great. I cancelled with the operator when I called about the sweepstakes before hanging up and it actually registered. The people at customer service are actually really friendly and they don't want any trouble. They are there to help. If you fell for this scam, call that number and they will get it resolved.
As a precaution, I did contact my bank shortly after I hung up with the original operator.

I did the same thing, and the same thing happened to me, but after the first payment was debited from my bank account, I simply changed my bank account info, and they couldn't debit my account anymore. Then, of course, they started sending me bills, and today (12th of Feb., 2011), I received a second bill stating that if I didn't pay what is owed, they would charge a $5.00 penalty and/or turn over my account with them to a collection agency. The main thing that bothers me about NME is that they don't really give you an option to cancel the magazines. There is nothing on their website that allows you to go in and request a cancellation. I will WRITE them by "snail-mail" and request a cancellation. They will probably respond to me as they responded to others, and tell me that they cannot cancel (which is so much BS, because they CAN). We'll see what happens...

I should have reviewed first as I usually do before purchasing a product. I just agreed to this scam a hour ago and now I wish I hadnt. I will call first thing monday to cancel but suspect I'm going to have problems. Did anyone receive what they were suppose to receive? I've never been a millionaire so I can let that dream go but I at least want the other crap that I'm paying for. I might get stuck this time but I will try to get out of this and I will not renew. There is no law that says once a commitment is up you have to recommit. I don't see any success stories here.
