Called in Ilkeston branch to ask about transferring DD as Nationwide was giving £200 for doing so. I asked the cashier about this and was told yes just bring your details of your present DD with all all details and we'll do it for you, great will call in again the allowing week.
Today I called again with all the paperwork etc to be told I have to do it ourselves Nationwide can't do it, it's us that have to do it.? Puzzled by the turn around from first asking, so if your thinking of doing this don't bother the help is nextdoor to useless, we are in our mid 70's and customer care at Nationwide needs addressing ASAP.
Recommendation: No comment.
Poor!
Their Fair Share scheme is a poor excuse for publicity- nothing more! I have been an account holder/member for almost 50years and yet I don’t qualify for the £100.00 payment yet someone that opened an account a few months ago can qualify! How is that fair? I pay £200.00/ month in to my account and have done for years … how is that not eligible for the payout? When I complained I received a final email stating that they won’t change their decision I received a final letter from Claire Ednie

No loyalty in Nationwide anymore so stuff them - I’m off with my money and closing my accounts.
Recommendation: Avoid like the plague!
Outdated and Inefficient: My Experience with Nationwide.co.uk
NationWide Building Society, also known as Nationwide.co.uk, is a company that some people may have heard of. However, the name is kinda misleading because it's not really "nation wide" in the sense that it's only based in the UK. But hey, at least it sounds big, right?
Anyway, I've tried to use their website a few times, but it's just terrible. It looks like it was designed in the early 2000s and hasn't been updated since. Trying to find any information is like searching for a needle in a haystack. It's frustrating and time-consuming.
I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, but sometimes it's hard to find a good alternative. If you do decide to use them, just be prepared for a lot of confusion and frustration.
Disappointed with Nationwide Building Society's £100 offer and treatment of loyal customers
So, like ya know, I was thinking of getting some cash from Nationwide Building Society, 'cause I heard they were pretty good and I have a flex account with them. But then, guess what? They told me I don't qualify for the hundred pound payment they were offering. And like, I've been banking with them for years, using my account every day, and even getting my Army pension paid in every month. So, what gives? Thanks for nothing, Nationwide. I'm so gonna close my account on Tuesday. It just feels like they're kicking me, and probably loads of other customers, in the teeth with their massive bonuses. Ugh.
Nationwide: The Legit Bank That Got My Back!
Ya know, I've been rockin' with Nationwide for like a whole 10 years now and gotta say, they've never done me wrong. Only had to hit up a branch twice, all my other bizness can easily be handled online. And lemme tell ya, on the real, when it comes to transferring cash, it takes me less time than it does to crack open a cold brewski. Plus, their website is hella easy to navigate.
But, if I'm being straight up honest with ya, I did have a bit of an issue with some chump trying to scam me outta my dough. But when I called up the Swindon crew, they had my back yo. They got that mess sorted out right away and even refunded my account within an hour.
So, if you're lookin' for a bank that's more legit than them other high street losers, then Nationwide is where it's at.
Nationwide Building Society Review: Frustrating Website Experience and Poor Customer Service
don't waste your time with these guys unless you want to be constantly frustrated.
Nationwide Building Society has been my bank for around 8 years now. Recently, the website changed and it has become a bit of a hassle to work with. When trying to transfer funds, it's like playing a game of chance whether or not it will actually work. Even the cashiers in the branch advise customers to stay away from the online side. When talking to the tech guys at the website, they suggest using a different browser than Google. Really? Google is one of the largest and most popular browsers out there, and they want me to use another just to use their site. It's incredibly frustrating. My advice to you is to steer clear of Nationwide unless you want to be constantly annoyed and disappointed.
Avoid Nationwide Building Society at all costs for your mortgage needs
Nationwide Building Society is a place where you just might want to think twice before doing any kind of business there. Personally, I had the most abhorrent experience with them in regards to getting a mortgage with them. Everything seemed to be moving along pretty well up until it came time to purchase a new house. Unfortunately, issues arose in regards to a survey, and we were no longer able to purchase the property we were hoping for. The Nationwide assured us that wasn't going to be a problem, and we should just find another house and they'd be happy to help us with the mortgage process.
So, naturally, we went ahead and found another property, and instructed our solicitors to proceed without delay. That's when the Nationwide reared its ugly head. All of a sudden, they refused to give us a mortgage on our new property, simply because we no longer met their standards or criteria, or whatever you want to call it. Unbelievable! Can you believe the stress and frustration this caused us? We were left homeless with no options, all thanks to this disastrous company.
Fortunately, Barclays came to our rescue with a fantastic and seamless mortgage approval that we were so grateful for. I wouldn't wish the kind of poor treatment that we received from Nationwide on any human being who just wants to buy a nice house and create a loving home for themselves and their family. My sincere recommendation is to NOT EVER do any kind of business with this heartless and unethical organization that disguises as a "building society".
Nationwide Bank Review: Terrible Customer Service and Delayed Closing on House Purchase
Me and my fianc? are buying a house in the big U.S.A. He asked the bank about moving over the moolah to do it, and they got all up in our grill about potentially being fraudulent. But they didn't even ask for the legal docs first which made us feel a little bit salty, y'know? So we had to do all the work to make sure they're getting a good look-see. It's been like two whole weeks now and everyday my dude has to take the time out to talk to them on the dog and bone. But they never put him through to the same person and every single time the story changes! One day they'll say it's all hunky-dory, the next day someone else will call up and make him explain the whole situation anew. Can you dig it? We already missed the deadline for closing on the house once and now I'm guessing it'll happen again I mean, come on.
Seriously though, if you take my advice, you'll stay away from Nationwide!
NationWide Building Society: Frustrating experience, lack of customer service and access to funds
I've been with NationWide Building Society for more than ten years now, but it seems like my loyalty doesn't matter to them at all. Being a UK citizen living overseas, it's frustrating to deal with the constant card restrictions and blocks. Every month I encounter this kind of problem, and every time I call them up, they give me a No-trace answer because of my address issue. They won't allow me to use my poBox, so it's a huge inconvenience for me.
When they unblock my card, I thought it was all sorted out, but the next month, I had the same issue again. This time it was worse because they said they detected fraud and blocked my card. It was frustrating because I was buying something from a reputable website in South Africa, something like the ebay of SA, and yet they still canceled my card. It took me four attempts to get it, and they even posted it to SA using standard post, which was never delivered. When I asked them if they could send it by FedEx, they refused, saying that SA is too dangerous. I even requested to send it to my mate's house, but still, no card arrived. All this while, I had no access to my funds.
The next month brought some new EU regulations, and my card was blocked again. I sent them all the required information via FedEx, but still, my card was blocked. No explanation was given, and everyone I spoke to gave me a different story. They couldn't email me, and they couldn't talk to the fraud-blocking department, leaving me with no access to my money, which is essential. Even within the bank, no one could give me an answer, resulting in another week without my card.
Overall, it's been a frustrating experience dealing with NationWide Building Society. Their customer service is not up to par, and it's ridiculous that I have no access to my money despite complying with their regulations. I can't wait to switch banks and avoid this kind of headache in the future.
Disappointing Customer Service Experience with Nationwide Building Society's Call Centre Staff
I recently had an experience with Nationwide Building Society's call centre staff. To be honest, I'm always a bit wary of these types of interactions, as I've been burned before. Unfortunately, my experience with Nationwide's call centre staff didn't do much to ease my concerns.
I called using a phone I'd never used to contact Nationwide before, and I wasn't asked any identifying questions before being connected to a representative. Now, call me paranoid, but I feel like this is a bit of a red flag. Anyway, after speaking with the woman on the other end of the line for about ten minutes, she slipped up and addressed me by my name.
Now, I was pretty taken aback by this. How did she know my name? I hadn't given it to her, and this phone wasn't even registered with Nationwide. When I asked her about it, she denied ever saying my name in the first place. This kind of back and forth is infuriating, but unfortunately, it's pretty par for the course with call centre staff.
Things only got worse from there. She asked if there were any other questions I had, to which I responded with some queries about their telephone customer service. That's when things really started going off the rails. She refused to answer any of my questions, and instead tried to steer the conversation away from the topic at hand. I told her that I felt like she wasn't honoring their promises, and after a total of 26 minutes on the phone, she eventually just hung up on me.
This is definitely not the kind of customer service experience I was hoping for. I'd heard that they use voice recognition software to identify callers, so I was especially unimpressed with their lack of interest in actually helping me. It seems like they're just looking to gather as much information as they can to keep their jobs. Personally, I'd rather they just gave me a straight answer instead.
Warning: Avoid Nationwide Building Society - Dreadful Customer Service and Unhelpful Staff
Nationwide Building Society may sound like a bank with traditional values, but don't let that fool you. They are not a pleasant bank to deal with, and I came away with the impression that they must hate their customers! Their website is not too extensive when it comes to offering information and answers, which is frustrating. When you try to phone them, you are placed on hold for a long period of time. After an hour on hold, you get cut off and have to call again. This process happens multiple times before you can finally navigate your way to a call taker who is so unhelpful and incompetent that they struggle to provide even the most basic information. The circus merry-go-round doesn't end there, as you're then transferred to a series of random departments with bizarre names until you're cut off again and have to start the whole process over.
Warning, if you dare to complain about the high incidence of ridiculousness, you get a lecture on COVID in an attempt to excuse the incompetence! Eventually, I got through to mortgage sales, and I thought 'yippee.' But within minutes, it became apparent that the IQ devoid mortgage sales advisor knew little to nothing about mortgages and even less about the building society's own mortgage products on offer, which is shocking! They also tried a little age discrimination to try and sell me a completely inappropriate mortgage product that is three times the cost of their standard mortgage. Age discrimination seems to be the norm as if you're under 55, you get a standard mortgage, but if you're over 55, you get directed to a product at three times the cost interest-wise.
My advice is to avoid this bank at all costs. They are truly dreadful. As for their complaints team, what a horrid snooty bunch they are who treat their customers with total contempt and disdain. They are truly nasty. Nat West's customer services are so much better! This bank is horrible - avoid at all costs!
Nationwide Building Society: Unresponsive, Unhelpful and Traumatizing
NationWide Building Society has been my go-to account for over forty years. However, I recently experienced some major issues that have left me incredibly dissatisfied with their service. After hiring a builder to build a house for my adult daughter with disabilities, I was hit with a frozen account warning without any warning or explanation. Nationwide claimed that I could be the victim of a scam and thus chose to freeze my account.
As someone who was already managing a stressful situation, this move only added to my anxiety and stress. It was clear to me that my builder was legitimate, as I had chosen them myself after receiving three separate quotes from different architects. Despite my attempts to prove this point to Nationwide, my accounts remained frozen for a month, leaving me without access to funds when I needed them the most.
The situation was made worse by the fact that my Mastercard was also stopped due to a minor fraud, leaving me unable to make important payments for various contractors and supplies. To make matters worse, the staff at Nationwide were unhelpful and absent from the phone lines for the majority of the time. It took me eight visits to the branch, each lasting three hours, to try to resolve the matter, which caused me significant financial loss.
The unresponsive and unhelpful staff only added to my stress levels. I even had to borrow money from friends and family just to keep up with daily expenses. But, unfortunately, my complaints fell on deaf ears and I was ultimately told I could no longer visit the branch or even have an active account with the bank.
To add insult to injury, the compensation offered to me by Nationwide was nothing more than a pittance. It doesn't even begin to cover the trauma-informed counselling that I have been receiving to deal with the fallout of their actions. To make matters worse, their so-called apology was unconvincing at best.
In conclusion, I would not recommend this bank or building society to anyone, not even my worst enemy. If you are considering joining them, I would suggest you switch to another bank immediately. While I believe that banks generally have too much power, I also believe that legislation needs to be revised to ensure that so-called "victims" aren't further traumatised and victimised by bank actions. Overall, my experience with Nationwide has left me feeling disempowered, and I have lost all my trust in them as an institution.

Nationwide Building Society Review: Disappointing Service and Treatment of Long-Term Members
NationWide Building Society ain't all it's cracked up to be. I went to one of their branches to make a cash payment and took two whole days for it to clear! That's ridiculous! And when I tried to complain about it, they got all defensive and didn't even try to make things right.
What's worse is that they treat their long-term "members" like dirt. I've been with them for years, but it seems like they're more interested in wooing new account and credit card holders with their flashy offers and promotions.
Honestly, they operate more like a bank than a building society. Don't be fooled by their fancy website and marketing. They're not all they're cracked up to be. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.
