I enjoy the Online Book Club because I am exposed to books I might otherwise have never seen. While all the books are ones I want to read, there is a great selection, and I've discovered many excellent books and authors. One thing I like about this program is the way reviews are written. Because of Scott Hughes' reviewer guidelines, the reviews are more in-depth and far better than just an Amazon blurb. As a reviewer for Online Book Club, I have honed my skills because of the editorial guidance I've received, and I'm promptly paid for each review I write. I recommend OBC to anyone who loves to read or who is interested in writing reviews.

I won't paste the entire thing...but here's how it started... "I paid $98 for someone to review my book Shallow Death. Then I kept getting harassing emails to say I had not paid..." IN FACT, ONLINEBOOKCLUB.ORG is an amazing organization. I got a review. They did a GREAT job. The reason I got it wrong, was that I resubmitted a second time (because I was confused about the process), and then I got emails that I hadn't paid. I got worried, and mad that they thought I hadn't paid...because I had paid for my first submission. ANYHOW, I am so sorry Scott for any upset I caused you. It must have felt terrible when you read my review. If there is anything I can do to make it okay...please let me know.

I recently joined OnlineBookClub.org as a book reviewer, hoping to earn some extra cash while indulging in my passion for reading. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the plethora of features the site offers, from Bookshelves to Forum, and the generous rewards it doles out. The Daily Giveaway, for instance, allows you to earn up to $20 by simply checking in on the site every day and browsing through some books. Then there's the Twitter Rewards giveaway, which is equally exciting. However, the most attractive feature, in my opinion, is the Review Team, where you can get paid up to $60 for reviewing a book. And the best part? You get to choose the books you want to review!

I must admit, though, that the user interface could use some improvement. For a site that claims to be the largest and oldest online club for book lovers, the design looks a bit dated. While I don't mind the white-and-blue color scheme, the layout seems cluttered and disorganized. The ad placement is also a bit intrusive, and the forum and bookshelves interfaces could use a revamp. That being said, some people may appreciate the vintage vibe, but a modern touch would be welcome.

As a member of the Review Team, I have had some enjoyable experiences reading some fascinating, often overlooked stories and sharing my thoughts on them. It's also a great way to connect with other users, although I must admit I haven't had much time to engage in discussions. However, I did have one unpleasant experience when I was banned from the team for alleged plagiarism. It turned out that the review they claimed I had plagiarized was actually my own review, which I had posted on Goodreads after my review on OBC was rejected due to some inaccuracies in the post-review questionnaires. While I understand that the admin couldn't verify that it was indeed me writing on Goodreads, I believe they could have checked the date of the review. If someone had copied my review from OBC and posted it on Goodreads, why was I the one getting banned?

Furthermore, my review had already been rejected on OBC, so I assumed it wouldn't be visible on the forum anymore. Then why couldn't I post it anywhere else? The admin suggested I could have put a link to my OBC review on Goodreads, but that defeats the purpose, doesn't it? If my review had been rejected on OBC, why would anyone bother clicking on a link to read it?

Despite this hiccup, I must say that the admins are generally very helpful and responsive. They take every complaint seriously and try their best to resolve any issues promptly. I particularly appreciate gali's efforts in this regard. It's reassuring to know that there are actual people behind this website who care about their users.

Overall, while there are some aspects of the site that could use improvement, I still find myself drawn to it for the occasional hidden gems and unexpected discoveries. As first-time authors, it can be nerve-wracking to trust that reviewers will appreciate the love and hard work that goes into putting your words on paper. However, the professionalism and checking process of Online Book Club gave us a lot of confidence, especially as our book is on a niche subject - personal spirituality that is common to us all, regardless of our beliefs.

The book is divided into two parts - "The Earth Life Chapters" and "The After Life Chapters." The first part focuses on our material life as spirits in human form, while the second part introduces readers to the world of Spirit. The lessons in this book were conveyed to Janet Neville directly and unaltered by a team of spirit guides, making it a unique and insightful read.

What I love about this book is its simplicity of language and gentle tone, making it easy for anyone to read and understand. The authors pose many questions about life, death, mortality, and Spirit, and gently discuss and answer them, bringing clarity to these topics. The book also shares stories that prove that Spirit is not a fallacy, and explains that when our physical body dies, our spiritual body moves on. The purpose of this book is to prove that life continues after death, and it does so in a way that is easy to understand and assimilate.

I learned a lot from this book, and it has shifted my mindset concerning spiritual terms. The book is divided into smaller segments within the chapters, making it easy to capture the different things that are being discussed. We also see how Mediums receive their messages from the Spirit and pass them on accordingly. The descriptive images used in the book are also a plus, as they help to paint a clear picture of the concepts being discussed.

The only downside to this book is that it does not contain a table of contents, making it hard to navigate through. Additionally, there were a few errors in the book, which shows that it was professionally edited. However, these minor issues do not detract from the overall quality of the book.

In conclusion, I highly recommend Believe in Spirit: You are Spirit in Human Form to anyone who is curious about what happens after death, what "Spirit" really means for us humans, and any other questions about life in terms of spirituality. It is a thought-provoking book that will lead you to think differently about life, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: NERVOUS CONDITIONS by Tsitsi Dangarembga (1988)

This book is a real eye-opener! It's the first book to be written by a Zimbabwean female author in English, and it's a fictionalized version of the author's life growing up in both Zimbabwe and England. The story is about a young black woman named Tambudzai who faces many struggles, including racism, negativity, isolation, and PATRIARCHY.

Tambudzai's brother passes away at the mission school where her uncle, "Babamukuru," works as a headmaster. Her father is cynical, and her mother is indifferent towards her big ideas. Tambudzai decides that she wants to go to school, and by any means possible, in spite of her father's refusal to pay the fees required for her tuition. From selling mealies in the bustling city of Salisbury (now known as Harare), her journey towards education commences. Her father was a problem on his own because to him, his daughter was merely clutching at straws with her goal to become just like her brother, Nhamo, if not better.

Throughout the novel, she finds herself constantly adjusting to her new surroundings. Not knowing what a nightdress was used for was only the beginning, and along the lines, she discovers from her cousin (later, best friend) Nyasha, that it was more ideal to lose her "virginity" to a tampon instead of an adolescent fool who wore the "defilement" of his victims like a "badge of honour."

The story is a translucent telling of the African mind undergoing a loss of identity because of colonization and imperialism, and the cross that black women carry as they stand by their Black Men who enjoy the fringe benefits of the crumbs of patriarchy after White colonial rule stripped of their dignity by taking their land and their economy. Tsitsi wrote this ebullient piece with the mind of a woman who was woman enough to put the struggles of the black women first on her agenda (a case of African feminism), while bearing in mind the effects that the white colonial power had on the minds of black men who were at the mercy of being whitewashed completely.

The book is completely deserving of its place in Time's 2018 list of The 100 Books That Shaped The World, and it is a certain must-read for any enthusiast of African Literature who knows the pain of the black man from Ngugi Wa Thiongo's Weep Not, Child, and wants a further understanding of black female pain that coalesces with black male pain, beyond When Rain Clouds Gather by Bessie Head.

Overall, I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. It's a great read, and I highly recommend it!

The process of submitting my book for review was simple and straightforward. I received an email confirmation within minutes of submitting my request. The review itself was thorough and well-written, with the reviewer clearly having read and understood my book.

I spent a good chunk of change, $200.00 to be exact, for a review on OnlineBookClub.org. I was hoping for a review on Amazon, but the reviewer said that they couldn't do that. I was a bit disappointed, but I figured that I would still get something out of it. Unfortunately, I don't feel like I got my money's worth, except for one thing. The reviewer pointed out a bunch of errors in my book that I didn't even know were there. It turns out that the person who did the ebook version didn't do a very good job. Some of the errors that the reviewer mentioned weren't even in the paperback or hardback versions of my book. So, at least I know that there are some issues that need to be fixed.

However, there were a couple of errors that the reviewer mentioned that I don't agree with. They said that some of my sentences didn't make sense, but I think that they just didn't understand what I was trying to say. I mean, I'm not the best writer in the world, but I know what I meant when I wrote those sentences. I think that the reviewer was a bit too harsh on me, and that might have turned some people off from reading my book. I mean, I'm not saying that my book is perfect, but I don't think that it deserves to be completely dismissed because of a few typos.

This website is like a mixed bag of nuts. I have some complaints about it, but also some good things to say. My main issue is that it's just too darn hard to figure out how to do anything. Every little thing seems to require a lot of effort. For example, I recently wanted to thank someone who reviewed my book, but it took me forever to figure out how to do it. I don't want to give up because I really want to show my appreciation, but it's frustrating when it takes so much time and energy to do something that should be simple. I think the site could be a lot better if it were easier to use.

I gotta say, I'm not too thrilled with this site. As a writer and proofreader, I thought it would be a great way to make some extra cash while doing something I enjoy - reading and reviewing books. But the further I get into their tier system, the more trouble I seem to have.

Their editors are constantly nitpicking my reviews and giving them low scores, often just as I'm about to reach the next level. And let me tell you, these editors are biased as all get out. They interpret the guidelines however they see fit, and it rarely goes in the reviewer's favor.

But that's not even the worst part. The forums are an absolute mess. I posted in the help forum about a review that was pending from July 2021 and had not been paid out (I had been patient as it was January 2022 when I finally raised an issue over it) and an admin came along and told me the help forum was not a place for complaints, then deleted my post. What kind of customer service is that?

And don't even get me started on the most recent review I submitted. It was supposed to earn me a $35.00 payout, but the editor declined it because they claimed I included a spoiler (which I didn't). Now I'm out the money I spent on the book, as well as the payout I was supposed to receive. Some of the books listed for review are self-purchased, and they're usually the ones with the higher payouts. So not only am I not getting paid, but I'm also out the money I spent on the book in the first place.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone. The payouts are tiny, the books are often poorly edited and self-published, and the editors are incredibly biased. And when I left a poor review of the site, the owner reached out to me and was basically outraged that I dared to criticize their precious little platform. So yeah, 10/10 do NOT recommend.

I've been a member of onlinebookclub for a few years now, on and off. The reason I keep coming back is that they pay you to write reviews. I usually get $5 per review, which is pretty decent if it's a book that I'm interested in. However, the owner, Scott, keeps trying to get everyone to add him on social media. It's a bit annoying, to be honest.

Recently, I was invited to do a review for $100 on Scott's new book, which he claims is a bestseller. I was skeptical, but I figured, why not? It turns out that the book is only a bestseller because he's paying people $100 to review it. The book itself costs about $30 with shipping from Barnes and Noble, but it takes about two weeks to arrive. Then, it takes another three weeks for them to verify that you've purchased the book, and another week or so for them to reject you. So, basically, you do the review, and it gets rejected, and you don't get anything but a crappy book that sucks.

The guy is a terrible writer, and if this is how he sells books, I no longer want to read them. Please don't fall for this scam. He uses aliases to sell his books by getting people to buy them in exchange for money. Luckily, I was able to return the book, so I didn't lose anything but time. If you purchase the book, it still falls under holiday shopping, so you can return it until January 31. Good luck, and I hope this review helps.

Update: So, if you leave a negative review exposing the truth about your experience, Scott will continue to send you emails asking you to change it. He even sent the same email to three of my email addresses. I asked him to stop contacting me and spamming my emails because I will not change my review. In his most recent email, he even tried to threaten my business, which I started during the pandemic, but I don't even have anymore. It's very distasteful and unprofessional for any business. Please beware.
