Buyer Beware: My Experience with Ruby Lane and a Fake Man Ray Tapestry
I gotta say, I had a pretty bad experience with Ruby Lane. I was looking for some vintage stuff and stumbled upon Butler & Butler Gallery's page on the site. They were selling this tapestry that was supposed to be an original work by Man Ray, a famous artist. I was super excited and bought it in February 2012.
Fast forward to October 2014, I was getting an insurance appraisal and found out that the tapestry was actually made by a French artist named Michelle Ray. I was pretty upset because I had paid a lot of money for something that wasn't what it was advertised to be. I tried to get a refund or at least some information about the tapestry's history from Sandra Butler, the owner of the gallery, but she refused.
I think it's important to be careful when buying stuff online because there are a lot of scammers out there. It's really disappointing when you think you're getting something cool and it turns out to be a fake. So, buyer beware!
Disappointing Experience with Ruby Lane: Misleading Listing and Unhelpful Customer Service
I gotta say, I had a pretty bad experience with Ruby Lane. I was really excited to buy this Victorian 18k bracelet from one of the dealers on their site, but when I got it, I was super disappointed. It was way smaller than the size listed, and it didn't even fit my wrist! Plus, there was this big dark silver area on it that looked like it had been repaired a long time ago. I was so bummed out.
So, I contacted the dealer to try and return it. I sent it back with insurance and everything, but when the dealer got it, they said it was damaged in shipping! I know for a fact that it wasn't, because I saw the pictures they sent me of the bracelet after they got it back. You could clearly see the old repair and other defects in the bracelet. I think the dealer was just trying to scam me.
Now, the dealer has my bracelet and they won't give me a refund. They're telling me to file a fraudulent claim with USPS, but I'm not gonna do that! I don't want to be a part of mail fraud. It's not right. And you know what's really messed up? Ruby Lane stopped contacting me when I told them I wasn't gonna be a part of the fraud. It's like they're on the dealer's side or something.
Overall, I'm really disappointed with Ruby Lane. I thought they were supposed to be a trustworthy site for buying vintage and antique stuff, but now I'm not so sure. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Disappointing Experience with Ruby Lane: Heartless and Nasty Business Practices
I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed with Ruby Lane. I had a shop with them for over a decade, from 2002 to 2005 and then from 2006 to 2018. I always paid my bills on time and never had any complaints. But then, out of nowhere, they sent me an email saying they closed my shop because I had put it on vacation mode. They didn't even bother to ask me why I did it or give me any notice.
I reached out to them and explained my situation, but they didn't seem to care. They just sent me some generic response saying that my shop was "no longer such a shop" and that I hadn't done anything with it in months. Well, excuse me for having a life outside of Ruby Lane! I had some contractors working on my house and I got sick, so I wasn't able to keep up with my shop as much as I would have liked.
But then, to make matters worse, they started sending me these nasty remarks about my photos not being good enough. Some of those photos had been on there for years without any complaints! And they had the nerve to charge me a hefty fee just to open my shop in the first place.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend doing business with these heartless and nasty people. If you ever have a hurricane hit your home or some other emergency, they won't care. They'll just shut you down without any warning or explanation. It's unbelievable.

Mixed Feelings About Ruby Lane: A Review of Their Website and Customer Service
I'm not sure if I should give Ruby Lane three stars or not. Sometimes their website can be confusing, especially when it comes to the automatic counteroffers. It can be a bit wonky, you know? And when I've had problems and reached out to their customer service department, they've been pretty rude and dismissive. Not cool, man.
But, on the other hand, I've bought some really nice jewelry from one seller on Ruby Lane. They're a long-term seller and they're super easy to work with. The jewelry is always just like they describe it and show it in the pictures. And get this - when I changed my mind about buying something, they even lowered the price for me. How cool is that?
I do think that Ruby Lane needs to be more careful about who they let sell on their site. Sometimes it looks like a junky garage sale, you know what I mean? But there's at least one really great jewelry seller on there that I trust and keep going back to. And if you look at the transaction reviews, it seems like other buyers feel the same way.
So, my advice is to be careful who you deal with on Ruby Lane. But if you find a good seller, you can get some really nice stuff.
Ruby Lane Review: Shady Sellers and No Help from Customer Service
I gotta say, I had a pretty rough experience with Ruby Lane. I bought a fancy Rolex watch from one of their sellers, but when it arrived, it was totally busted. The seller tried to blame it on the shipping company, but I wasn't buying it. I took the watch to the best repair shop in town, and they told me that the real problem was some shady modifications that the seller had made to the watch. And get this - the seller had claimed that the watch had been fully inspected and serviced before it was shipped to me! What a load of baloney.
So I tried to get Ruby Lane to help me out, but they were no help at all. They just kept saying that it was between me and the seller. And even though I had proof that the seller was a total crook, Ruby Lane refused to do anything about it. It took me over six months of fighting just to get my money back. And the whole time, Ruby Lane was just sitting back and collecting their cut of the sale.
Honestly, I don't think Ruby Lane cares at all about whether their sellers are honest or not. They just want to make money, and they don't care who gets hurt in the process. It's pretty messed up if you ask me. And even though Ruby Lane is just a platform for private sellers, they should still be doing more to make sure that their sellers are legit. But instead, they're just letting all these shady sellers run wild on their site. It's not right, and I wouldn't recommend Ruby Lane to anyone.
Ruby Lane: The Ultimate Platform for Selling Antique Furniture Online
Ruby Lane is a great website for selling antique furniture. I have been using it for nine years now and it has been a great experience. At first, I was a bit confused about how to sell online, but Ruby Lane has a helpful help section that answered all my questions.
I have sold many items on Ruby Lane and I have always been treated with respect. The staff is very helpful and understanding. If I ever had a problem, they were quick to help me out. I never felt like I was being talked down to or treated unfairly.
Recently, I discovered that Ruby Lane offers a shop mentor assistance program. I sent an email requesting this service and I received a response within 24 hours. Within a week or so, I received a very detailed email from my shop mentor. They gave me advice on how to better display my items and how to promote sales. This service is free and it was very helpful.
For the amount of money I spend each month, I couldn't get better exposure or advertising anywhere else. The more items I add to my page, the more hits I seem to get. I don't know why, but it works. Overall, I highly recommend Ruby Lane to anyone looking to sell antique furniture online.
Unprofessional and Outdated: My Disappointing Experience with Ruby Lane
I gotta say, I've had some pretty good experiences shopping on Ruby Lane (rubylane.com). But let me tell you, it's all thanks to the sellers I buy from. The site itself and the people who run it are just plain rude and unprofessional. I mean, seriously, who runs this thing? Some weirdo in his garage? The platform is so outdated, it's like it was designed by IBM in the 80s. It's clunky and always seems to be messing up.
And don't even get me started on how they treat their dealers. They charge them fees just for the privilege of selling on their site. And now they're charging buyers extra fees too? What kind of nonsense is that? The sellers aren't any better off either. They have to pay a lot just to have a shop on the site, and then they have to pay even more for "marketing." And now they're being charged almost as much as eBay charges for a final value fee. It's ridiculous.
Honestly, you can find most of the same items from the same sellers on eBay and Etsy, and usually at better prices too. So why bother shopping on this stupid site? And to top it all off, they shut down for several days to "upgrade" their site, but nothing really changed. Except suddenly, when you check out, you get hit with all these extra fees.
I would have given Ruby Lane 4 or 5 stars just for the sellers, but honestly, I'm done with this site. I'll just buy from them on other sites from now on. Oh, and by the way, they expect the buyer to purchase shipping insurance. Can you believe that? What a joke.
Unhappy with Ruby Lane's Fees and Customer Service: A Review
I been sellin' on Ruby Lane for over 10 years now and I gotta say, I ain't too happy with some of their practices. I recently spoke up 'bout their fees and customer service and let me tell ya, they don't like bein' challenged. Makes me wonder if all them reviews 'bout their shady practices are true.
I told 'em that with the pandemic goin' on, their monthly charges were causin' me some financial strain. And let me tell ya, $85.10 a month for just over 100 items (and that don't even include the listin' fees) is a lot, especially when sales are down. But their response was just plain rude. They said I wasn't honorin' the agreement to list exclusively on RL and that I was advertisin' my merchandise on Etsy too. But if you do your research, you'll find that most RL sellers don't sell exclusively on RL. Ain't nobody gonna make any money that way! Etsy and ebay are way more fair.
Etsy's got a much bigger customer base, they advertise for ya, and they let ya post coupons (which return buyers love). Plus, they got better shippin' options and ya don't gotta deal with Paypal (which is an extra fee). And ebay's just easy and reliable with tons of buyers. But RL charges a ridiculous monthly fee and Etsy and ebay only take a percentage of your sales. Plus, it don't cost hardly nothin' to list.
And let me tell ya, their tone was both rude and insensitive. They said I was runnin' other online business portals under the same conditions even though I suggested they should give me special consideration 'cause of COVID. How can they even compare? I've given them so much money over the years and I regret it. Trust me, it ain't worth it. You'll end up spendin' more money than it's worth. Look elsewhere!
Review of Ruby Lane: High Fees and Unhinged CEO
I gotta say, I'm not too impressed with Ruby Lane. The CEO seems like he's got a few screws loose and he's not exactly honest with his customers. I mean, who tells their customers to take a hike? That's just not how you run a successful business. I don't know how they're going to survive in this economy with that kind of attitude.
So apparently, Ruby Lane is required by state laws to collect and remit Sales Tax for their customers. They fought it for two years, but they lost and now they have to do it. They started collecting Sales Tax in the fourth quarter of 2019 and they estimate that it costs them about 4% of total sales to administer the collection and remittance of Sales Tax. That's a lot of money, but they had no choice.
They also implemented a Buyer Service Fee to help offset the cost to their dealers, but after a few weeks, they decided to invite shop owners to take a survey and find out how they felt about it. The survey showed that the majority of shops wanted to pay the fee themselves, so that's what they did.
They also added a 3.75% fee on the seller side, which they hadn't raised in years. They reduced the maintenance fee slightly for smaller shops, but it basically remained the same. They did this because they knew that some shop owners would not be honest in reporting sales. Apparently, many shops are trying to skirt paying Sales Tax and Ruby Lane fees, which is not cool.
Some shop owners have accused Ruby Lane of being greedy and ridiculous for charging additional fees, but the CEO says that's far from the truth. They try to be as fair as possible and charge fees to make ends meet. They provide a website platform, host your shop, create reports, do SEO, AIP images, have fraud prevention, protect you and your customers from hackers, provide award-winning customer support to buyers and sellers, market your items and the site, collect, report, and remit Sales Tax for you, curate items, keep up with desktop and mobile technology, create newsletters, handle wish lists, create and promote sales, plus much more.
The CEO says that those shops who are disparaging Ruby Lane in public are in turn disparaging each and every shop owner. Complaints and concerns should be addressed in forums for shop owners or sent directly to Ruby Lane. Buyers are free to address their concerns in public, but shop owners should use their best business sense.
Ruby Lane knows that there are other choices out there for marketplaces, shows, events, and your own sites. They feel strongly that they offer the best marketplace for curated vintage and antiques at a competitive price, run with high integrity and a general respect and well-being for their dealers.
Overall, I'm not too impressed with Ruby Lane. The CEO seems a little unhinged and not exactly honest with his customers. They do provide a lot of services, but they also charge a lot of fees. I'm not sure if I would recommend them to anyone.
Ruby Lane Complaints 14
Do your homework and read reviews!
I had been selling on Ruby Lane for over 10 years and recently challenged some of their practices, fees and general customer service. They do not like to be challenged, which made me wonder if many of the reviews about their shady practices have been correct. I wrote that in light of the pandemic, the monthly charges were causing a financial strain. Truth. $85.10 per month for just over 100 items (and that doesn't include listing fees) is a lot - even more so when sales are down. Their response was, "You have not been honoring the agreement to list exclusively on RL. Instead, since at let June of 2017, your merchandise has been advertised also in the Etsy store." If you do your research, you will find that most RL sellers do not sell exclusively on RL. Nobody would make any money! Etsy and ebay are so much more equitable! Etsy has a much larger customer base, advertises, allows you to post coupons (which return buyers love), has better shipping options, doesn't make you deal with Paypal (which is an additional fee) and has more traffic. Ebay is easy, reliable and has tons of buyers. RL wrote, "Even while suggesting to us special consideration should be given to your Ruby Lane shop account because, "COVID has caused unforeseen difficulties", you continue to run other online business portals under the same conditions." How can they make a comparison? RL charges a ridiculous monthly fee. Etsy and ebay only take a percentage of your sales. It costs hardly anything to list. Not to mention, their tone is both rude and insensitive. I have given them so much money and I regret it. Take it from a long time seller, it isn't worth it! You'll spend more money than it's worth. Look elsewhere!
Difficulty communicating with company
I'm a seller on Ruby Lane and everything was going satisfactory up until about 2 weeks ago when I was unable to log into my account/shop. I keep getting a message that my email is unrecognizable. I tried on different days just in case there was a problem that particular day but to no avail. I sent several emails which non have been responded to. It's like I...

I gotta say, if you're thinking about buying something from Ruby Lane, you better be ready to jump through some hoops. I bought this ring that I thought was the real deal, but turns out the diamonds were fake. And when I tried to get Ruby Lane to fix it, they just blamed me for not checking it out first. Like, come on, how am I supposed to know what's real and what's not?
Anyway, if you're the type of person who likes to take risks and fight for what's right, then maybe this is the site for you. But if you're like me and just want to buy something nice without all the drama, then I'd say skip it. There are plenty of other places to shop online that won't give you such a hard time.
Overall, I'd give Ruby Lane a solid "meh." It's not the worst site out there, but it's definitely not the best either. If you do decide to buy something from them, just be prepared for anything. And maybe bring a magnifying glass with you, just in case.

Disappointed with Extra Charges: My Experience with Ruby Lane
I been buying jewelry from Ruby Lane for like 20 years now. But the last time I tried to buy something, I was like "what the heck?" when I saw all the extra charges they was adding on. I put the thing I wanted in my cart and then I went and looked at some other sites to see if I could get it cheaper. And guess what? I could! And without all the extra charges too. So I didn't buy from Ruby Lane this time. It was an easy decision.
Terrible Experience with Ruby Lane Seller: Rude, Unhelpful, and Overpriced
I had a really bad experience with one of the sellers on Ruby Lane. I sent an email to the seller about returning an item, but I didn't get a response. So, I decided to call her instead. She was really rude to me on the phone and didn't seem interested in helping me at all. She charged me a restocking fee without telling me, which was almost as much as the item itself. I was really upset because the item wasn't cheap, it cost me around $69.
To make matters worse, the seller didn't list the size of the item on the website, so I had no idea how big it was. When I received it, I realized it was much bigger than I expected. Also, the item had weird plastic eyes that looked really ugly. It didn't look as nice as it did in the pictures on the website.
I'm really disappointed with my experience on Ruby Lane. I'm deleting my account because I don't want to deal with bad sellers like this. If you're going to buy something on Ruby Lane, make sure you read everything carefully because there's no one to help you if you have a problem with a seller. At least on eBay, they have a system in place to help you deal with bad sellers.
Shady Business Practices: Ruby Lane's Sales Tax and Trust Pilot Reviews
This company, Ruby Lane, is doing some really shady stuff. They're making sellers collect sales tax, even if they're not from around here and don't have to pay sales tax. And if a buyer returns an item, the seller has to give back the sales tax from their own money, but the sales tax that Ruby Lane collected stays in their pocket. What's up with that?
And don't even get me started on Trust Pilot reviews. They're not to be trusted! If a seller complains about Ruby Lane's illegal practices and gets kicked off, their Trust Pilot reviews get deleted. And you know what? Trust Pilot is a service that businesses pay for, so they can just ask to have all their bad reviews removed. You can't trust either of these companies, man.
Ruby Lane: A Total Fraud - My Experience as a Seller
I've been selling on eBay for over 20 years and thought I'd give Ruby Lane a try. Boy, was that a mistake! I forked over $100 for a "start up fee" on November 24, 2019 and listed 10 items. I answered all their questions and filled out everything they asked for. And then I waited. And waited some more! I requested to open my shop and every time I checked, it was "in review."
Just today, I found out that they had a message for me saying that I needed to fund my account before they could open my shop. But I already paid them! I tried calling and emailing them, but there was no reply and no response!
I'm sorry to say that Ruby Lane is a total fraud. I just hope I can get my money back. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It's just no good!
Terrible Experience with Ruby Lane: Shady Practices and Rude Customer Service
I gotta say, I had a pretty rough time with Ruby Lane. It seems like every single person who works there has some sort of major ego problem or just a straight-up bad attitude. I used to have a store on their site, and things were going pretty well until I started to notice some shady stuff going on behind the scenes. Apparently, if you weren't one of their "favorites," you basically didn't exist. They would give certain store owners top visibility for their products, while the rest of us were left in the dust. And don't even get me started on their customer service people. They were so rude and overbearing, it was almost comical. They acted like they could do no wrong, and if there was ever an issue, it was always somehow our fault. I mean, come on.
To make matters worse, they shut down my store for no good reason. I'm a disabled 60-year-old, and they just decided to make up a bunch of lies about me and my business. I was on track to make over $130,000 this year, and they just took that away from me in the blink of an eye. It's not right, and I'm not going to let them get away with it.
Overall, I would definitely not recommend Ruby Lane to anyone. They're just not worth the hassle. If you're looking for a better online marketplace, I would suggest checking out some of their competitors instead. Trust me, you'll be much better off.
Disappointing Experience with Ruby Lane: Not Worth the Time or Money
I spent a lot of time and money getting my items ready to sell on Ruby Lane. I even had professional pictures taken, which cost me a pretty penny. I listed the minimum 10 items as required by the website, but then I received a note from them that was really sarcastic. They said I needed to correct spelling errors, which was total bull. And then they said I needed to use better quality pictures, even though the ones I had were good enough for Sotheby's. I spent 90 minutes trying to fix everything, but it was a waste of time.
I sent an email to Ruby Lane to explain what the issues were, but I didn't get a response for 20 minutes. And when I finally did get a notification, it was that all of my pictures and descriptions had been erased from my site. I was so frustrated and angry. They didn't even give me an explanation or anything.
If you don't want to waste your time, I suggest using 1st Dibs, Ebay, or OfferUp instead of Ruby Lane. I wouldn't recommend wasting your valuable time trying to list with them. It's just not worth it. If you like flying United Airlines and their service, then maybe Ruby Lane is for you. But for me, I'll stick with the other websites that actually care about their sellers.
Ruby Lane Review: Awful Customer Service and Fake Items - Shop Elsewhere for Authentic Vintage and Antique Items
Ruby Lane, let me tell you, their customer service is just plain awful. I mean, it's like they don't even care about their customers. I've never seen anything like it. And don't even get me started on the items they sell. I've seen so many fake things on there, it's ridiculous. I've been collecting vintage and antique jewelry for almost 30 years, and I can tell you that Ruby Lane is not a trustworthy place to shop for these kinds of things.
It's really sad to see a company that claims to be knowledgeable about vintage and antique items selling so many fakes. I mean, come on, Ruby Lane, get your act together! I refuse to sell anything on their site because of this. I've had much better luck on other sites like Etsy, Vestaire, EBay, and even my own website.
If you do decide to shop on Ruby Lane, just be careful. Make sure you're buying from a seller you trust because Ruby Lane won't help you if something goes wrong. It's a shame, really. I hope they can turn things around and start offering authentic vintage and antique items again. Until then, I'll be shopping elsewhere. Happy New Year, everyone!
Misled by False Advertising on Ruby Lane: My Disappointing Experience with Christian Dior Jewelry Purchase
I remember back in 2015, I made a purchase on Ruby Lane for some jewelry that was being marketed and sold as Christian Dior. At the time, I was living in China, so I had the jewelry shipped to my mother's address in Australia. However, when I arrived back in Australia and opened the package, I was disappointed to find that the jewelry was not Christian Dior, but was actually stamped and marked as Swarovski and Monet.
Feeling misled and frustrated, I took the jewelry to a local jeweler to get an authorized report stating what the jewelry stamping actually was. Armed with this information, I contacted the seller on Ruby Lane and requested a refund based on false advertising. Unfortunately, the seller denied my request for a refund and was extremely rude in their response.
To make matters worse, when I reached out to Ruby Lane customer service for assistance, they were no help at all and stood by the seller's decision. I was left feeling disappointed and let down by the entire experience.
I trusted the seller and believed that I was purchasing authentic Christian Dior jewelry. However, that trust was misplaced, and I ended up with jewelry that was not what I wanted or expected. The seller's rudeness only added insult to injury, and I was left feeling frustrated and disappointed with the entire experience.
Overall, my experience with Ruby Lane was not a positive one. While I understand that mistakes can happen, I was disappointed by the lack of support and assistance from both the seller and Ruby Lane customer service. I would caution others to be careful when making purchases on Ruby Lane and to do their due diligence to ensure that they are getting what they pay for.
Unfair Service Fees on Rubylane: A Seller's Disappointment
I've been a seller on Rubylane for a whole decade now, and let me tell you, some things have changed. And not all of them for the better, if you ask me. Lately, I've been feeling pretty let down by some of the shop fee charges. Now, I know that change is inevitable, but this just seems a bit much.
Here's the thing: on the service fees page under account, it says that there's a 6.7% charge on the total cost of item(s) sold. Okay, fine. But then I got curious and decided to send an email asking about it. And you know what I found out? That 6.7% also includes a service fee on the shipping and insurance. And that's just plain wrong.
I mean, come on. Shipping and insurance isn't some kind of profit for us sellers. It's just what the post office charges to get a sold item from point A to point B. So why should we have to pay a service fee on that too? It just doesn't make sense.
If Rubylane is going to insist on this kind of practice, then they need to be upfront about it. They need to explain that the TOTAL COST includes a 6.7% service fee not only on the item sold, but also on the shipping and insurance. Lay it ALL out for your Rubylane Sellers, guys. We deserve to know what we're getting into.
Return and cancel
Order 6056244. This kitchen set was advertised as all in working order. When I received the items only the refrigerator worked and the other items did not. The items were also dirty. I emailed seller who told me on my dollar to return. I returned and one of the items that I received broken was broken in another place during shipping. The seller should have refunded me immediately as I was lied to about the condition of the items. This sale was a total of $584.55. Any time I have had a problem with another website the seller was extremely polite and refunded immediately. I am furious. The seller is making money off damaged merchandise and should never sold it to begin work.
Desired outcome: I want to be refunded as I was sold an item that was misrepresented.
Customer service
I wanted to buy several items from Ruby Lane. I wanted to buy some clothing from them but wasn't sure about the size. So I went to Ruby Lane website, found their contact information and decided to call. I did not like the person I was talking to. Their rep was really impolite and customer unfriendly. And the worst part was that he was not able to answer my questions. Their rep didn't know anything about the products they were selling. The most unprofessional service!
