Mixed Experiences with American Greetings
As someone who appreciates the sentiment behind greeting cards, I must say that my experience with American Greetings has been a bit of a rollercoaster. While the variety of cards and e-cards is impressive, the functionality of their website leaves much to be desired. It's disheartening to see a once credible brand struggle with technical issues and customer service. The potential is there, but the execution falls short. I believe that with some investment in technology and customer care, American Greetings could regain its former glory. Let's hope for a brighter future for this iconic brand.
Great but of no use
I sent a greeting to a friend today that was awesome--very funny and perfect. However I chose to send it via FB. Once it was read once the ability to view the video disappeared.
So I deleted it. My friend never saw it.
Now I can't get anything to work.
Anything on American Greeting takes forever to load; I think forever because I didn't wait that long.
This really ruined my experience after spending an hour to try to get the card back without success. Then I couldn't send another card even.
I finally joined another greeting card site.
Sad just sad
Tonight I made a great ecard for the grandkids about quarantine and staying connected, I scheduled it to send tomorrow, and it got lost AGAIN somehow. Very frustrating, make a card and it never saved, it happens often.
Read below a review I did last year on Google.
Extremely disappointing company, great Ecards, my grandchildren especially love when I send them talking cards. However, the most disappointing is when your schedule ecard to be sent on a holiday, like valentines day, thanksgiving etc. American Greetings usually can not deliver the card, or if you are sending out 5 cards only 2 or 3 get delivered that holiday. It's extremely disappointing and very upsetting, especially a Valentines card you sent for your daughter that she never gets.

Online Cards
Worst ever - payed $29.90 for the online greeting cards service on Dec. 16th - none of the cards that we created and sent off ( also sent to ourselves for testing) were ever sent to the respective group. Also no way to download and sent out otherwise.
I immediately contacted American Greetings Support - no reaction, no reply.
No answers to any of my queries to customer service - no reaction what so ever. Still trying to get my money back.
Desired outcome: Refund asap
Charged bank account for year membership without notice/my permission
Looked at my recent bank statement and was horrified to see a charge by American Greeting Co. i did not authorize or agree to.!
NEVER agreed to, gave permission, or was notified, after free trial membership, i was getting charged $30.00 for a year membership on 10/28/2022.!
Have done my research and it seems American Greetings does this all the time with no notification. The BBB/scam report, etc has many complaints of same kind as mine. I tried calling them and emailing them about my dispute of $30.00 charge-no luck getting through or an answer.
This is a fraudalent practice by this company. My bank is now notified and they gave me suggestions on who to report this to.
Desired outcome: AM REQUESTING A FULL REFUND OF MY AMERICAN GREETINGS SUBSCRIPTION. REFUND TO PAYMENT METHOD ON FILE.
Server will not connect
Has American Greetings.com gone out of business? First, they doubled my annual fee from $19.95 to $39.95 without prior notice, and now I can't send a Mother's Day card because their servers appear down. I tried to send one yesterday, on Mother's Day and could choose the card I wanted, but the server hung up during the final process. I tried six times unsuccessfully and assumed it must be because they were so busy for the holiday.
So I tried again this morning at 4 AM, thinking that surely their servers wouldn't be busy at this time of day. Now, I can't even connect to them.
I do not like paying double without notification and a chance to say yes or no, and if I can't send a card when I need to, there is no reason for me to stay with them. Accordingly, I would like to have my money back they took from me one month ago for my annual membership fee. I have not been able to use their service since paying it.

Highly recommended, but caution will not hurt.

Buy 3 Get one FREE coupon
I recently purchased 3 cards at WalMart, all over the $2.97 pricing each, expecting to receive one of them FREE, as the coupon read. The cashier scanned the coupon & only $3.00 was credited against my purchase. A supervisor read the "fine print" & explained $3.00 was the max discount I could receive. This is NOT what the coupon states. . .FREE is what the customer expects. If the coupon said there would a max of $3.00 taken off the total, I would have followed that guideline. VERY disappointed with American Greetings deceiving coupon!
Desired outcome: Be CLEAR & HONEST on your coupons!!
Coupon false advertising stating free card when you buy 2 greeting cards
American Greeting Cards has coupons posted in stores that state FREE CARD When You Buy 2 Greeting Cards priced 2.97 or higher. I bought 3 cards at Walmart priced at $4.97, $7.27, and $3.99 expecting to obtain the 3rd card for free but in the fine print it states the coupon is for $3.00 not a free card.
This coupon should read $3.00 off after the purchase of 3 cards greater than $2.97. These type of tactics need to stop and I have never seen this with Hallmark.
Desired outcome: American Greeting Cards to stop fraudulent coupons.
worker
I was in the Albertsons in Boise off of Ustick. Albertsons called you and left a message. My son ran away from me in Albertsons. He's 6 I checked every where finally found him on the other side of the store. I said Bradley let's go now! Repeated myself 7 times. He refused I walked fast at him with a serious look on my face. To show him mom is mad. He ran I ran after him grabbed him by the arm and said Bradley we don't run away from mom someone can steal you, he said can I have a toy I said no because you ran away. She stepped in from of me and told me that was no way to treat a child. I told her you do what you want with yours I'll do what I want with mine I'll spank him in public if I want. She told me she was going to follow me around the store until the cops got here. And I do t know how to treat kids. Really wow this is who you allow to work for you? This is why kids get stollen and raped or end up in prison. Not be disaplined or running from there parents and some baby [censored]er snatched them up ! Please know who you are hiring and who you choose to represent you! This person is the face of your company's. She was super short heavy set, brown curly hair. The store says she has had issues with her before! Thank you
fraudulent unauthorized membership
I have not done any business with this company for at least 5 years if ever.
American Greetings charged me 19.99 via PayPal for a service Agreement they claimed I made with them. I did not make such an agreement did not or would not authorize American Greetings for this charge.
PayPal did not find the company in error and I cannot get my money refunded.
Beware of this company's fraudulent business practices.
fraudulent monthly charge
I just happened to put my discovercard statement under the microscope. For some reason there is a $5.99 charge at the end of every month by am greeting. I never did business with this company, but I am obviously paying for a monthly membership. It is saturday - their offices are closed. I tried to log on to my fictitious account and I used my email address and requested they send me a new password - who knows, maybe 1 night I took an ambien and started buying greeting cards. But they did not send me an email to reset my password... I bet the only info they have on me is my credit card! Fortunately discovercard was very nice. They went back over my account and said this has been going on for a year and they will credit me the entire amount and issue me a new credit card number. These people are thieves!
free trial cannot be cancelled
Today I have attempted three times during "normal business" hours to cancel this before they bill my credit card. It is not possible. I am transferred to a number that answers on one ring with the message that they are "closed due to unforeseen circumstances". I am two days into this week and guess this will continue until the week is up. Rotten scam.
My wife signed up for a 7 day free trial as that was the only way to enter and review their site. We have been charged for 40 months since then and the company will not provide any cooperation. A bad company for sure! We will never buy an American Greeting card in the future.

ecards
This is the email I sent them...they require your billing info but they make it impossible to cancel charges during the 7 day "free trial." I had to instruct PayPal to reject any attempt to have membership costs charged to my PayPal account. They never answer the phone number or call you back when you try to opt out (they do not provide a way to opt out online...you have to call them.
BEWARE!
American Greetings,
You stink!
I signed up for your 7 day free trial membership and as instructed provided my PayPal billing information so that if I did not cancel you would begin billing monthly. I decided to NOT continue any membership services with you and followed instructions on cancelling membership choice.
However, much to my dismay, there is NO way to cancel a membership charge online. I made numerous calls to the number you provide [protected]). Several times I tried holding to speak to someone and no one ever answered. Several times I tried to get a call back and no one ever called back.
Therefore, I instructed PayPal to reject any attempt on your part to make any membership charges to my PayPal account/credit/debit card.
I consider your company to be a scam and your agreement to be fraudulent and will report you to the Better Business Bureau and leave terrible reviews about your practices wherever I can.
Shame on you.

job scam
Received an email from Randy Shoemaker which was [protected]@gmail.com, saying that I needed to download Yahoo Messenger to have an interview online through Messenger with Victoria Luckett. Which I did, however Mrs. Luckett said this was an at home online position, with flexible schedule paying $35-$45 an hour. Also the top people 4 out of 16 would be given a car, a house, as the company was doing this to make the citizens proud and have good income to take care of their families, and they could make $63, 000 a year. I asked how to check into all of this, and she kept repeating herself saying it was 100% legitimate. I continued to ask how to check into this, and was told I would be given all the information upon hiring. NO, you should be able to check into any company before becoming an employee. I believe this was a scam to purchase software to do the job, I never let it get that far. I am a smart woman and continued to ask questions, and finally I received no response back. I'm sure they knew I was right... Just want to make sure others know this. I applied to this job through INDEED job site, and I am going to contact them as well. Hope this helps others looking for work !
fraudulent billing practices
Free trial terms deliberately obscured. Called to cancel after almost a year, was assured partial refund & cancellation. 4+ years later (!) I'm still being charged every month and never got my refund.
My Grandma's birthday was coming up, and knowing how much she likes to receive cute cards, I signed up for an American Greetings online 'free trial'. In the end, I didn't even find a suitable e-card to send, so I just left the site. I didn't know that this 'free trial' was really a scammy auto-renewal program. The terms were deliberately obscured back then, and online scams were not yet in the public consciousness as much as they are today.
The credit card account I used 'just for verification' was one I opened exclusively for auto-paying student loans. I rarely checked that bank account because it essentially ran on its own.
After around a year of having never used the service at ALL, I finally noticed the charge on my yearly review of my finances. I called to cancel the service right away, explained the situation, and asked for a full refund. They agreed to refund half the amount and to cancel my account.
A month or so later, I moved overseas. The bank account in question still worked on its own, with automatic transfers. I rarely, if ever, checked it, especially since each login required password resets etc.
Fast forward 4 years of living abroad. I was ready to close the loan-paying bank account. I signed in to settle it, and I saw that every single month for the past 4+ years I've been charged $2.99 from AM Greetings! We're talking over 150$ all together that this company has stolen straight out of my bank account after I cancelled their service, which I did not use at ALL!
This is not bad practice, this is fraudulent practice. Companies should not be allowed to get away with sneaking in charges, however small, when a customer has expressly requested cancellation of the account!
I called again to talk to a customer service representative, but no dice. The only possibility was to use their fully automated system, which offers no transfer to a live representive and zero way to request a refund. Explain to me why, American Greetings, a company as large as yourselves feels the need to charge a college student struggling to pay back loans, more than $150 for simply agreeing to try something out on your site?
If anybody else has gone through a similar experience with this company, please contact me. I'm looking into organizing a class action to hold this illegal, immoral corporate scamming machine accountable for its past actions. Let's get our money back and prevent American Greetings from hurting more consumers!
I demand a full refund of the charges made to my bank account from AM Greetings. I also want compensation for duress caused, as well as for any and all legal fees involved.

aircraft picture on card
Received American Greetings Air Force Veterans Day card from young grand son. While the inside greeting was appropriate "Happy Veterans Day, with many thanks for your honorable service as a member of the U.S. Air Force" the picture on the front was not. As a US Air Force retiree, 30 years of service, a Vietnam/Desert Storm Vet, I found the picture a insult. The picture was a US Marine Corp Harrier jump jet.
One would think if American Greetings had anybody with any card planning/design ability they cold of came up with a appropriate picture of a US Air Force aircraft.
avoid like a plague
When I signed up for a free 1 month trial. They take your credit card info and tell you that they will not charge your card if you cancel before the month is up. I called to cancel and there is no one to talk to, they tell you to cancel on line but but I couldn't see a link to do that either. I called back and pressed the appropriate number to sign up for a new account, (of course I was able to speak to someone then) was then told that it was 7 day trial not a month. The woman somewhat abrasive, telling me whoever told me that it was a month was a liar. I didn't argue, luckily I only had to pay for a month and not a year (at least I hope so.. haven't checked my statement yet). Still.. expensive for just 1 card.

when wishing to terminate the service, I couldn't find a way to de-subscribe
When wishing to terminate the service, I couldn't find a way to de-subscribe. Despite a through and time consuming search of the site, I could not find an "unsubscribe" icon or a postal office address to send a letter. Buried several pages deep in the site, I found an 800 phone number ... but it was no longer in service.
A call to my credit card company that I had originally authorized American Greetings to charge eventually yielded a different 800 phone number for American Greetings. The new 800 number was only provided after I threatened the to terminate the credit card if they could not help me. (Apparently, because I authorized Am. Greetings to charge my card, American Greetings are the only ones that can terminate the charge to my account.)
Good eventual outcome. The new 800 number enabled me, through appropriate prompts and information entries, to terminate the subscription. A confirming email was received from American Greetings.
Using the new 800 number I was unable to reach live person to express my dissatisfaction with the lack of an easier way to terminate the account.
I was unable to send a birthday card from the website on March 3&4 but it kept sending me to sign up and getting my cc info. Since then kept trying to cancel. I was not able to send the birthday cards. I was trying to send but the 800# constantly says tech difficulties it's awfully strange that when I 'm trying to cancel there is technical difficulty. But there seems to be no problem charging me. I'd appreciate cancellation of the account and not be charged. I never had a problem with this company in the past now it appears I do. And because of the charge it put my account in the negative, hence why I kept try the # to cancel.
customer service
For a large, well-known brand, American Greetings has one of the worst customer service programs that I have encountered. When my credit card number was stolen recently, I tried to call the AG Help # several times with no success. I also tried to contact American Greetings on-line. After all else failed, I tried to cancel my membership on-line and was told that this option was unavailable. My experience with American Greetings illustrated that:
. if you are a customer with a complaint or require help with an issue that falls outside of AG's standard or taped set of customer concerns, your concern will not and cannot be addressed;
. on top of the difficulties with your card, you will receive a relentless barrage of e-mails that you cannot respond to and when you try to will find yourself in an surreal loop of webpages and telephone commands;
. AG lacks capacity and willingness to deal with its customers on a personal basis.
This is particularly pitiful in a company whose business is founded on the concept of greetings...and keeping in touch. AG is not alone in thinking that on-line efficiency makes for better customer service (and better ROI). In some cases, it does. In others, it is a dismal failure. I will never do business with this company again and I will post reviews for others. Buyer beware...this is a on-line product with good front end website with very poor back-end service.

Oh my gosh! I just wanted to make comment, to contact with you w/a question but you certainly don't make that simple! This is not a complaint, I love AG & have been using it for years. Only wanted to say that it appears to me that you no longer offer the Favorite link...it's very useful when one is browsing the cards & wants to save one for the future. I can still access my favorites, but no longer can I find a link to make a current card I like a favorite.
Sorry I had to use this forum, but after searching for 10 minutes for a "Contact Us" link, this was the only thing I could come up with! Other than calling you, which I didn't want to do.
Thanks & I hope you bring back the "Favorite" feature.
One more think spelt is an incorrect word by the way :)!
american greetings e-card ripoff
American Greetings Online E-Cards - I am a paid customer at $20 per year. Service is way overpriced. Worst investment I ever made; you are better off sending free cards. Principal problems: After you create a card, the cards will not send; if you finally manage to get them sent, they cannot be played by recipient. In addition, selection of cards is extremely poor -- juvenile, limited. I thought it would be an improvement over Hallmark e-cards, but it was not. This problem has been going on ever since I joined in December 2010. There is no way to complain to the company. Do not sign up for American Greetings Online E-Cards; it's a rip-off.

I am a long time scriber to Yahoo American Greetings online service and it has always worked good but now my create and print won't work. I click on the card I want and it comes up. I then click on create and print and an error report comes up. I have tried about 10 different cards.

they bill for &free trial&, won't refund
I took advantage of a 30-day free trial offerred by MSN/American Greetings on October 31. Three days later, I cancelled. Their policy states, "Trial Periods: In order to allow our customers an opportunity to sample our Products and Services, occasionally we offer trial periods during which customers register for a Subscription and enjoy all of the Subscription benefits. If you sign up for a trial period and cancel during the trial period the payment information provided will not be billed. " Well they did bill me and are now refusing to refund. Just try to reach a live person at Microsft to address this joint promotion with. American Greetings? I believe the mafia has gotten out of garbage, gambling and prostitution. They've taken over American Greetings.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Cancelled American Greetings Nov. 2013, service was active until Dec.2014. Now, 6months later I just found new charge on my credit card, and I'm outraged. Never ordered the service again, yet they had the nerve to re-new it on their own. ($15.99) To check them out, I decided to try to log-in to old account. I was able to log in with old user name and password, which means, that after I cancelled the account they have never deleted the account. Under my personal info the credit card info was missing, however going into purchase records it shows the credit cards I've used in the past and attached to the latest charge the notation is: "PASSTHRU"...? Hmmmm...
I couldn't reach any customer service representative due to after hours, but I'm going after them tomorrow. Though I'm still in the process of removing this charge from my credit card, I guess the lesson I've learned is, that once you close any account of this type (paying for some kind of service monthly, or annually), I have to go back to make sure the account is closed for good. If these companies would do this (completely close account), then later (when they charge the customer illegally), they should notify the customer again to set up account with user name and password. Of course they don't want to do this, because then all of their illegally charged customers would know what's going on, and their phones would ring off the hook. Definitely an illegal practice. I'm so beat up with negative experiences with many companies that I decided to fight them all. Getting the money back is not enough though, they all must be reported. Eventually someone comes along mad enough that a class-action lawsuit surfaces.
I agree with the other comments that have been made by the above cheated folks, I also have just went through the same experience as all of these folks have and of course this wonderful company has not a real person you can talk to. I was charged to my credit card a renewal fee of $15.99 for a period of 1yr. My wife had tried this FREE program, didn't like it and cancelled it several years ago, ( it was at least 6yrs as she has been deceased that long) I have never had any type of charge come through from them since, My advice to others is that you DONT want to give access to your credit cards or bank accounts to company's other than trusted and proved ones. Good Luck Jim B
Exact same thing happened to me as happened to ( arby2u ). I am in process of trying not to pay my credit card for that specific charge. Amgrtngs say they have a 30-day free trial. They are refusing to take the charge off my credit card. This company is not to be trusted in what they have printed on their website.
ON Feb. 21 I was doing my on line banking. And discovered AMGRTNGS MSN ECARD Withdrew 29.99 from my checking account without knowledge, consent or authorization. I yrs. ago joined a 1 year membership that has since expired. I did not request membership renew. Guess they made this decision for me. Just sent a text message and waiting for a response and If they do not meet my satisfaction, BBB will be hearing from me.
Just sat on the phone for an over an hour (there is no online cancellation and their "voice activation system" just intentionally doesn't register your spelling of your name acurately). Finally someone answered and they say they have cancelled my subscription. I'll be checking my credit card carefully! Never again. What a scam! Beware consumers, don't sign up with this company!
