Micro-management to the Extreme: My Negative Experience with Sensee
I been at Sensee for fifteen months and let me tell you, it was not my cup of tea. They love to micro-manage and control everything to an extreme. Your KPIs are under a microscope, and management doesn't have your back. They're all about pleasing their clients, which means you jump through hoops all the time. They think they're an agile workforce, but they're just spineless.
Supposedly, you can book hours that work for you, but it's a first-come, first-serve basis, which just leads to chaos. If you're stuck on a call when the hours get booked, you're out of luck. You'll end up with half-hour shift bookings all over the place. They claim to embrace flexible work, but that's not the case.
Their Facebook page is a joke. I don't believe in any employer-managed page that only shows happy comments. Negative comments appear, and then they disappear in thin air.

I gotta say, I ain't one to leave a review but I gotta speak my mind on Sensee. Seems like the negative reviews hit the nail on the head, ya feel me? And don't get me started on the fake positive reviews, it's whack. They don't give any support from management and the training is trash. Plus, the pay is straight up garbage. And let's talk about downtime, they ain't paying you for that if they think it's your comp's fault, which is most of the time. Every time I had a problem, it was 'cause of their wack apps not wanting to work. And they make ya check for Windows updates and use ccleaner before every shift, like what kinda nonsense is that? You end up waiting for some busted IT guy to fix it for hours, and that ain't always successful. And then they hit ya with the adherence bonus being set at 99% even when it ain't your fault the system is messed up. That's just wrong. I talked to a lot of their management, both from my account and HR and let me tell you, they're just as corrupt as each other. I could go on and on but for real, if this review stops someone from wasting their time, then it's worth it.
Not Worth It: My Experience Working for Sensee
I gotta say, my experience with Sensee was not all that great. When I first started working there, they told me upfront that I had to buy my own equipment, which was kinda annoying but I figured it was just part of the deal. And then they said they were gonna hold onto my first paycheck for the first few months, which seemed kinda sketchy to me, but I guess I can understand why they wanna make sure I'm sticking around.
But then came the training. It was a mess. They were starting up a new account with Bupa, and I guess the systems weren't really ready yet. So we were just kinda putzing around for a few weeks, not really doing anything that felt like actual training. The trainer did their best with what they had, I guess, but it just felt like a waste of time.
The weird thing was, during training they kept stressing how much of a team we were gonna be, all working remotely but still together. But when we finally went live, it was a completely different story. We were all pretty much isolated, and any time we tried to bring up any issues on the live desk, we were told to keep quiet.
And the team leaders were useless. They started at the same time we did, and they were supposed to be answering our questions on the live desk, but they had no idea what they were talking about most of the time. They'd give us wrong information, and then five minutes later they'd be correcting it after talking to a Bupa coach.
But the real kicker for me was the loss of pay. The systems were always acting up, and they kept blaming it on our PCs or our internet connections, even though we all knew that wasn't the issue. I think they were just trying to avoid having to pay us for the time we were losing. And I've heard from other advisors who still work there that hardly any of the initial staff is still around. I'm not really surprised, to be honest.
So yeah, all in all, I'd advise against working for Sensee.

I gotta say, I used to work at Sensee for 6 long years, and I sure won't be comin' back any time soon. Don't get me wrong, when I first started, things were lookin' great. The team leaders and management really took care of us and made sure we were doin' good. But boy oh boy, did things change. After a couple of years in, Sensee started only carin' about their clients and didn't give two hoots about their employees. Workin' on various accounts was a real pain in the behind. The targets were just ridiculous and bookin' hours was a total joke. Most of the time, you'd end up with barely any hours at all and the team leaders would give you more hours that were totally unsuitable, leavin' you to have to ask for shift swaps on the reg. And let me tell ya, good luck with that!
Towards the end of my time there, I was feelin' so dang stressed and even dealt with depression. I tried tellin' management about it multiple times, but they didn't seem to care one bit. Then, when I lost someone really close to me and needed some time off, they told me I had to call in every single day I was off just to report why? Talk about a disgrace. It's hard enough losin' someone you love, let alone havin' to explain why you're off every dang day. To top it all off, on my third day off, they asked if I was comin' back to work anytime soon. Like, what the heck? And that one time, when I needed time off for cancer testing, a male team leader with a power hungry attitude threatened me with disciplinary action. How disgusting.
Now, I know some people claim that they weren't paid for time spent on calls outside of their shifts or they had to announce their toilet breaks, but that ain't true. We always got paid for overruns and we never had to announce no bathroom breaks.
Look, there used to be some really sweet, caring people who worked for Sensee, and the team leaders I worked with were godsent. Sadly, I can't say the same for those higher-ups. So, if you like bein' under a lot of stress and pressure and don't mind gettin' grilled when you need a break, then, by all means, go for it. But I wouldn't recommend it.

- The time you log on is considered your commute, which means you're expected to start work 30 minutes before your shift starts. If you're not at your desk on time, you won't get paid.
- If you have any downtime during your shift, it's your fault and you won't get paid for it – even if it's just a few minutes. Plus, you're monitored constantly, so it's not like you can just take a break when you need one.
- Personal breaks can't be longer than 2 minutes, and you have to tell everyone on the live desk before you go. Anything longer than 2 minutes is unpaid and monitored.
- If you're absent or have any downtime, it's not only unpaid but it also affects your bonuses and leave entitlements.
- If calls, chats, or emails go over your shift time, you won't get paid for that extra time – and it happens often.
- Expect to be constantly monitored, with hard-to-reach KPIs that impact your bonuses. And don't expect to earn more than the minimum wage; that's what most contracts pay.
- You won't have any say in where you're assigned, and your shifts can be changed without your input.
- It's nearly impossible to achieve any work-life balance, as the scheduling seems to be completely random. And forget about taking proper breaks – even when you're told to.

My Experience Working at Sensee: Inconsistent Hours, Unpaid Breaks, and Pressure to Blame Yourself
I worked at Sensee for two years from 2016 to 2018, specifically on the Bupa contract. They had a funny system where you were contracted for 35 hours a week, but there were supposed to be certain high weeks where you worked 42 hours and low weeks where you only worked 28. There were also regular 35 hour weeks in between. However, most of the time, I found myself doing more 42 hour weeks than anything else. This was because they would change what you were working that week based on what the client wanted. Often, this meant more hours than you were originally contracted for.
They also didn't pay you if your call ran over your break, which you weren't even paid for anyway. I had multiple occasions where I finished at 5:30 PM, yet was still on a call at 6:30. Toilet breaks could not exceed more than 2 minutes unless you had special permission from HR, which I did because of a medical condition. But even with permission, there were times when I ran over the allotted time, which wasn't my fault.
Eventually, I decided to reduce my hours to 30, but even with that, I rarely did less than 35. This meant that on days off, I often had to work to meet my weekly shift allowance. It was frustrating; Bupa closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but since Sensee didn't include those days in our hours for that week, we had to squeeze all our remaining weekly hours into only 3 or 4 days left. This meant working 12 hour shifts every day, which was extremely difficult for someone with a disability.
There were times when we had gaps in our schedule throughout the day, but we couldn't go anywhere because we had to be back in time to work again. Plus, if a customer ever got angry at you because they didn't like following protocol and demanded to speak to a manager, even if you had done nothing wrong and were polite, management would make you take the blame. They threatened your job if it happened again, so you became scared to take calls in case someone got angry at you again.
Sensee seems great at first, but once you get there, you start to see their flaws. They promote people to team leader positions based on personal relationships with the main account manager, not merit. If you had to go off for a while, for example, to have a baby, you would lose the position you were in before and would have to go through training again. Overall, Sensee had some significant issues that made it challenging to work there.
Working from Home with Sensee: A Dream Job Come True
I’ma Mum who’s been working for many years but I got real tired of the daily grind that drained all my energy and took up a lot of my precious time. I lived 30 miles away from work and had to battle thick traffic every day. Finding a parking space was always a nightmare, and don't even get me started on the winter weather that made it nearly impossible to leave my house. That was when I decided it was time to move on and explore the concept of working from home.
As a result, I looked into several companies that offered work from home positions where you would have to set yourself up and pay for your own training, or work with no guaranteed hours from week to week. These were not aligned with my expectations at all. All I wanted was a job where I could work from the comfort of my own home on a contract with guaranteed hours and paid holidays. More importantly, I wanted to be a part of a team instead of feeling like I was working on my own in isolation.
When I finally found Sensee, I was amazed by their incredible offerings and couldn’t believe such a dream job could even exist. Naturally, I visited their website and read through forums to find out more about them. It was astonishing to discover that they had been operational in the UK for more than 12 years and had hired 750 remote workers to service leading companies such as RAC, Aviva, Photobox, Eurostar, and Home Retail Group, among others. I even made a point of verifying their registered office just to be sure that they were legitimate.
I applied for the HomeAgent role, offering customer service support to Home Retail Group’s customers, and was delighted to get accepted. Since then, I’ve enjoyed every aspect of it. I have complete control over my schedule and can select my break times as well. I no longer have to spend £300 a month on fuel costs or purchase overpriced coffees or sandwiches from fancy coffee chains. I don't need to because my fridge is only a 30-second walk away!
Initially, I was anxious about working alone, but in reality, it wasn't the case at all. I've made some fantastic pals, and we have a chat room to communicate with each other socially and for instant support. Here, I have all the leisure time in the world to do things that I love. For instance, during my lunch breaks, I managed to sort my laundry, cook a delicious chicken stew, feed and walk my dog. When my shift ends, I have all the time I need to spend with my lovely children instead of being stuck in traffic, making dinner, and completing household duties. While it is true that I am not paid as handsomely as I was in the rat race previously, the savings on travel costs, parking, meals, and work attire mean I hardly notice the difference. Of course, I had to invest in a desktop PC, a telephone, a headset, and a webcam, but compared to the cost of monthly commuting fees, I managed to obtain all four items for much less.
Overall, I’m quite pleased with my decision to join Sensee, and sometimes I regret not having taken this step earlier. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a job that is not only fulfilling but also offers room for flexibility and growth in remote working.
Sensee Job Application: Costly and Frustrating Experience – A Warning to Others
So, I tried to get a job with Sensee last August. The first interview was online with a nice lady. I passed and got invited to a second interview and assessment – awesome! The assessment was long: almost 5 hours of videos of their clients they were recruiting for. I also had an online one-on-one interview with a guy and then had to do a series of tests before it all ended. I passed that too and was told to move on to the pre-employment screening process.
But hold on: before you go any further, you need a PC that's no older than 4 years old and has to pass their test. I had to buy a new PC for £400 just for this job. You'll also need a headset, which I had to buy for £25. And that's not all – the engineer who was supposed to remotely install their software on my PC rang to arrange a date. When they did install it, they also installed bupa software as I was offered a job contract for them. Then came the screening process which was another expensive part.
I had to pay £25 for a basic police check and £25 for the credit check online form with Experian. I also had to send in a recent bill with my name and current address, so I printed that out and added it to the pile of documents. You'll also need to complete a 3-year work history and provide evidence of it, like bank statements or a letter from the employer showing your dates of work.
But wait there’s more: a letter signed by an employer is not enough – it has to be on headed paper with a logo. I sent two signed letters that were printed and signed by two people confirming dates which were two years old. Unfortunately, it wasn't good enough as it didn't have a logo on it. Apparently, a small farm doesn't use a logo or have headed paper – it was a letter from the owner that was signed. And you'll need to purchase a phone that's compatible with a headset before your training date. I spent another £80 on a BT phone, headset, office chair and desk just to prepare for the job.
So, the cost to get the job was ridiculous. I also had to pay £7 for the special delivery of all the documents I had to send. A few days later, Sensee emailed me to say the letters from my previous employers were not good enough as they were not on headed paper. But it was all I had from them to prove my work history.
I was due to start my training on the 10th of October 2016, but three days before I got a phone call that they were withdrawing my employment offer because the letters I provided were not on paper with a company logo. They then wanted bank statements from three years ago which I didn't have access to as it was with my ex-partner. They just said 'sorry' and didn't offer any compensation for all the expense I had already gone through.
I don't recommend risking the cost of all that equipment. They should sort out the paperwork first, not expect us to go through this expense. It’s a big waste of time and money. I turned down another job because I thought getting this job was worth the investment of the cost. I even spoke to my previous employer who wanted to contact Sensee directly as they were also appalled with the situation. It’s a company to avoid.

It is very unprofessional of the team to offer provisional roles and then retract them later, without any valid reason given.
Moreover, the low pay was another letdown. It's not just the low pay, but they also expect you to spend a fortune on a computer, telephone line, and headphones. On top of that, I had to pay for my DBS check, which was unexpected. It's quite frustrating when you realize that you barely get paid above minimum wage and still have to cover all these expenses.
In my opinion, this company is a complete shambles. The management seems to lack professionalism. As a person who has worked in customer service for years, I can confidently say that Sensee is not a company I would recommend. If you value your time and effort, it's best to avoid this organisation.
