Ranses (forgive me if I misspelled the name) was very professional and patient concerning the many questions I had today. I ALWAYS like to comment on great customer service, especially when I interact with a very professional and informative person. All too often the customer service reps aren't given the credit they deserve when taking a call from a customer. In this case, it was a pleasant experience and I have complete confidence in knowing my concerns were addressed. Thank you to all those I've spoken to since signing up with SmartEnergy. You're the best. If I could double the rating, I would do so gladly! Thank you again and be safe everyone.

I just completed a year with Smart Energy
I just completed a year with Smart Energy. Never had an issue and their customer services are the best I have encountered. Upon renewing my contract, I had the pleasure to speak with Max. His patience and understanding of having to repeat things were taken in stride. I apologized and thanked him for his patience. I informed him I have MS and it's not lack of listening. Didn't matter because all his help came before he knew of my illness. Soft spoken, eager to solve ANY issues you may have. Still he will not just hang up without asking, "is there anything else" or questions. Max turned an anxiety driven call into one in which I was laughing at the end.

Where does the SMARTENERGY get their electricity from? Is it from solar, wind, gas turbines, coal fired, where does AEP get their electricity is it from the SMARTENERGY where they get theirs? Why now? Is this another Joe Biden and the ONE WORLD ORDER CRAP? I don't care where GB gets its's power, i'm worried about blackouts, pricing out of control, and this solar, wind, fiasco? We have listened to Joe Biden and all we have seen is the renewable energy is the way to go, and he has stopped our production and won't let the companies drill, build nuclear and stop the auto industry produce what i want as an automobile! Quit telling me what i need, this is another government boondoggle?
These people are scammers; my fees doubled. Never have my charges ever reached such heights as they try to persuade you to keep them so they can take money each time. I didn't even want the 100-dollar gift card. I'm pretty sure it would've been a hassle to get it.
ABSOLUTE SCAM. Same issue as many other people -- Was promised lower rates and a $100 gift card. Was used to paying anywhere between $80-$120 for my electric *** (I live in a small apartment complex and am very energy conscious). My bills have been $300+ out of NO WHERE. Never received the introductory gift card and was SCAMMED into getting much higher rates. In the process of switching back to my original provider. In a time where people are STRUGGLING to live, SmartEnergy Holdings is DESPICABLE.
Beware of fraud $100 **** gift card that postcard claims is "A Thank You from SmartEnergy"
Beware of fraud $100 *** gift card that postcard claims is "A Thank You from SmartEnergy". It isn't a thank you. You call, give them the pin on the card, the saleslady confuses you and then says that you are going to sign up for an EXTRA service (supposedly to lower your *** but actually raises it) and then...after six months...they say they will mail it to you. So the postcard claims you are going to get it now for what you did, but it is actually a marketting ploy to increase your power ***, and the *** card may or may not come *in six more monthsafter the fact. Also, their plan actually raises your energy ***. And she talks to you like you have no choice.

Was very Friendly and informative. Explained everything thoroughly. They were never pushy
I've used SmartEnergy as my supplier since 2018. Over the past six months, I noticed our electric bills getting higher. When I called my electric company, they informed me that SmartEnergy was charging me four times more per kilowatt-hour than they would have. So I called to cancel SmartEnergy. They informed me it would take one to two billing cycles for this change to take effect. I just received my electric bill and, what do you know, SmartEnergy raised the rate again. It is now five times higher per kilowatt-hour than it should be. Thanks for the $692 electric bill. This company will bleed every penny they can out of you, even when you cancel their service.
I was charged a high light bill when I was led to believe my expenses would not be substantial. Now my bill is over $600. It's ridiculous. I'm not happy at all. I want them to take action regarding my bill immediately.

I'd like to write a review about Smart Energy Holdings a electric company supplier they were good at first but then last month when my *** should have only been 30 or 40 dollars my *** was double that it was $84 so I called and found out why my electric company told me that my Supply is Smart Energy Holdings raised my percentage from 13% to like 26% in one month so it's not right and someone like me that lives off of month to month is not easy also when I called the supplier Smart Energy I told them I was going to call the Complaintsboard.com on them and they said that they were going to give me a $100 *** card and now they're denying never saying that so that's why I am writing a review on how bad this company is

was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me with such kindness and patience. She seems to be a great employee who loves her job and enjoys what she does.
The switching was very easy and the representative was helpful . He explained everything in detail .
Although my approximate wait was longer than usual, and the account is not in my name, I was planning on paying one-third of the utility bill as I usually tally the amount for the year and pay it annually. There are three people living here, none of whom are in any relationship. My concern arose because the account, which is in the main occupant's name, has had some issues that we thought were resolved but apparently are not. I cannot afford to take on someone else's debt when I have been diligently addressing debts of my own that have already been paid.
I hope I can get this situation cleared up. I've received three mailed cards from SmartEnergy Company so far: one for $100.00 and two for $200.00, each accompanied by a pin number to call a designated number. Upon calling, I am asked for the Account Number, which is not provided. I still have the virtual cards and have not discarded them. The fine print indicates that the service will be changed after the account details are provided, to which my response is a firm no thank you. I cannot be responsible for settling debts based solely on someone else's word.
I fail to understand why anyone would treat this situation as a game or assume that I am obligated to assist with it. I have received an Infraction Letter from the relevant authority, and I believe that should be taken seriously. Furthermore, I have researched the issue on various websites to better understand the problem that has been wearing me down. I have never given consent for anyone to use me for their personal gain or due to the indifference of capricious individuals.

SmertEnergy is a corrupt business with shady business tactics, they rely on defrauding their customers to make any profit and should be immediately investigated by proper authorities. As others have stated in many reviews, they send "thank you" letters offering gift cards in exchange for 6 months of electric supply. The trick is that they send these letters to anyone and everyone and when people call to claim the gift card, they use misleading language to sneakily change your supplier to them and *** up your rates. If you've received a letter from them, DO NOT CALL THEM, instead report them to the *** fraud department. Also, not surprised most of the 5 star ratings here seem fake, they seem like the kind of company to pull that *** too.

Upon, excepting there electric program and being told it would be cheaper then my current provider " penelec". I was being charged *** khw vs 6.8 through penelec and now facing a shut off notice. After talking to penelec my *** would have been *** a month and through smart energy it was around *** to *** a month. I talked to a rep. *** and he said I signed up for it and they don't promise any type of rates. Who in their right mind would agree to double there electric *** ?. And was told nothing could be down. All I wanted was to get a little kick back after this company rips you off and scans the hard working people of the great ***. This type of stuff needs to stop as the inflation is bad enough and honest people get taken for granted in this horrible company.

If I could give 0 stars I would!
If I could give 0 stars I would! This company is a total joke who, in my experience, preyed on my 89 year old father and scammed him by upping the rate of the kilowatt price without notifying him. Yes, they claimed notices were sent out and when I stated nothing was ever received they basically stated I was a liar! Actual words were So you claim no letters were ever received. I was told I would receive a callback in 24 hours. Yup no callback! So I called them and got the exact same run around, except this time I was told since I closed the account( they forced my hand by scamming), my father was not entitled to any type of monetary consideration. So, in other words, if I would have told my father to stay with this company and keep being ripped off, they would have helped? STEER CLEAR OF SMARTENERGY!

When enrolled in smart energy I was lead to believe that my electric **** would be less
When enrolled in smart energy I was lead to believe that my electric *** would be less. I kept them for 6 months. I live alone in my house and I got higher electric bills than I ever had even when there were other people living with me. I was also supposed to get a $100 *** gift card after 6 months. When I called about the gift card and the 30 cent per kilowatt hour. I was told I had to send a copy of my last *** to them to get the gift card and they could lower my *** to lock in at 20 cents per kilowatt hour. When I had standard offer it was only 11 cents per kilowatt hour. I immediately change back to standard offer. I feel I was mislead by Smart Energy telling me my bills would be lower by using them and I was never told until I went to collect the gift card that I would have to send anything. I was just told I had to stay with them for 6 months

Attractive intro rates and $200 **** card carrot at the end of the 6 month stick
Attractive intro rates and $200 *** card carrot at the end of the 6 month stick. Cancelled after 6 months and attempted to receive my *** card - Hahahahaha! Inane, *** from the mouths of the 'customer service' reps: you are only eligible for $100 with no explanation provided, you have to enroll for (additional) 12 months to quality (despite Dec 2012 - July 2022 enrollment), no supervisors available for call back before *** hours (even though one 'supervisor' was 'busy with another customer' apparently for at least 48 hours), and the best statement: "You can call any agency you choose to file a complaint". After believing the company's initial attractive offer and meeting their requirements to receive the elusive $200 *** card, apparently I am more gullible than I thought. Shame on *** to agree to a partnership with this sleazy company. "If it seems too good to be true...it probably isn't". Shame on me...

If I was allowed to star zero or below for a rating I would gladly do so
If I was allowed to star zero or below for a rating I would gladly do so. I signed up being promised the lowest rate for electricity and a $100.00 gift card. I was thankful for the lowest rate because I am going through cancer treatments and I literally have no income at this point. My first *** I received was 2 1/2 + times the rate I was paying. I called the same day I got my ***. They told me I had to call back in a few days because they had no record of my ***. I called back and was told my service would be stopped IMMEDIATELY. I have just received my next *** and smart energy name is still on my ***.And now my *** is almost 3x the amount that I was paying. I can't forgo this anymore. I can't even get medication or groceries I need because of this greedy company who is taking me for a ride. If they try to sign you up RUN! They should not be allowed to scam people like they do with faults promises of the LOWEST RATES AND GIFT CARDS! Shame on them!
Absolute scam!
Absolute scam! I first spoke with a fast-talking, jargon spewing rep from this company while on my cell phone in my car, where I was unable to check my current KPH rate (which nobody has memorized) but was assured that they were offering me some special fixed rate which would "prevent *** increases". I thought they were affiliated with my electric company *** and Light. My average *** before signing up was $36 per month. My first month *** with Smart Energy was $319 (8x higher)! I called thinking there must be some mistake but was told that the "sign up process was thoroughly explained", except of course for the part about my *** being 8x higher. The company first claimed that it was my consumption that went up, but my *** and Light *** said I only used 1.0 more than the previous month. Then, Smart Energy said they don't claim to save anyone money and couldn't explain the purpose of their business. If they told customers "Your *** will be 8x higher, do you want to sign up?" NOBODY WOULD SIGN UP! This company uses deceptive marketing practices and scams and robs customers.

I got the $100 **** gift card mailer
I got the $100 *** gift card mailer. Called the customer service line to find out where they got my information to send me this card as I've only lived in my apartment for 2 months. The man said the *** has a public customer list that they harvest information from. I said I do not want to switch. The representative kept trying to get me to give him the *** number for gift card redemption, about 3 different times when I kept telling him that I want nothing to do with their company. If I don't want the service, why would I give you the *** that I have to scratch off the code for, to a service that I don't want, for a gift card that I don't want? Very suspicious and scammy vibes. The representative kept repeating that his company has been in business since 2012 and that they have *** customers. Like that was supposed to make me feel better that they can only get less than *** customers nationwide per year. If this company truly saved money on your energy ***, there would have been massive growth from word-of-mouth at some point. But *** with a $100 gift card that you can't claim unless you're their customer for at least 6 months Don't be fooled, this is a scam. These 5 star reviews *** do not look legit either. Very shady company
Although my approximate wait was longer than usual, and the account is not in my name
Although my approximate wait was longer than usual, and the account is not in my name. I was planning on paying the 1/3 of the utility *** as I do add up for the year and pay as a yearly ***. Their is 3 people living here not in any relationship. I was concerned because the *** in the main persons name has some issues that we thought was over and apparently not. I cannot afford paying someone's debt off when I have been fighting debts that have been already paid. I sure hope I can get this cleared. Obviously I was sent a card from this SmartEnergy Company for so far 3 mailed cards 1 for $100.00, 2 for $200.00, to call with a pin number to a *** number and when I speak to the person male or female voice stats for the Account Number which is not given. I have the virtual cards still not thrown away. As typed in smaller words states that the service will be changed after the Account is given, response is no thank you. I cannot pay for anyone debts on their sole wording. I rather not understand why anyone would think it is a game or what someone has to help with. I have an Infraction Letter from the ***, I would plainly say that's enough. Also I have looked the Information on varies site settings and to understand the issue that I am fairly tired off. I never gave anyone consent to unjustly use me for their individual reasons and indifference of ones capius individuals.
I switched to Smart Energy due to my electric service costs doubling from the initial price
I switched to Smart Energy because my electric service bill continued to increase to almost double what I originally signed up for their providing my electric service. Smart Energy promised a $100 gift card after six months of service, which I was satisfied with. I then completed their statement copy request to qualify for their free $100 gift card. I received said card, activated it, and planned to use it in a few months for a planned purchase. When I tried to use the card in February, 2022, there was only a 38 cent balance on the card. I had never used the card. One restaurant told me that sometimes they have trouble processing these types of gift cards. Therefore, I waited and tried to again use the card at a few other stores listed on their reward list. Same result. The last store suggested I call the card issuing company. When I called to advise NOT my usage, I was told that the card was used the month after I activated it. And I needed to dispute a charge within 60 days of the disputed charge. How could I do that when I did not use this card. They did give me the dates, charged amounts (all small amounts) and places, I think, where the card was used, all in November . They gave me another number to call, which I did, only to be told to call the same number that told me to call this number. They could not do any more for me. I immediately cancelled their deceptive service. I would like to leave a 0 star review.

I spoke with a representative from Smart Energy about switching providers
I spoke with a representative from Smart Energy who confirmed my identity and discussed the possibility of changing my electric provider to their service. He requested my account number, which I provided. He detailed a promotion offering a $200 gift card and was articulate about the program's benefits, including a fixed rate for the next six months. I rated his phone etiquette highly and expressed gratitude for his thorough knowledge of the Smart Energy transition. He offered a toll-free number for further inquiries and was courteous throughout our conversation, ensuring I understood the upcoming automated Q&A session. His professionalism was notable, and I felt he was a valuable asset to the company. I appreciated his assistance and suggested that Smart Energy recognize his contributions, potentially with a promotion or raise. He was informative about what to expect with Smart Energy, maintaining energy costs despite political distractions. I hope for a shift in political power to avoid potential economic decline.

I'll start by saying that by giving them any hesitation, you can get the introductory low price for 12 months instead of 6. I encourage buyers to press for this if calling.I wasn't going to post this originally, but the automated system said that it would "love it if you took another minute to post an online review." So I stopped biting my tongue with the critique I sent directly to them and am giving them what they asked for. I do not use SmartEnergy *** and only called them because I thought the card I got offering a $100 gift card was part of my own electricity provider. The sales rep did a fine job for what the company trained him for, but I do not appreciate that the sales rep avoided giving me a specific price/KWH after the 6-month trial price is over. I was only told that it may vary depending on the situation, it would be cheaper since it would be the fall price (which I was assured was generally cheaper), and that it would be "competitive." So when I asked for what the regular price is right now for a customer that switched 6 months ago is, I was given the same spin that the price is "competitive" and that there are varying factors that make it hard to say. Now, the sales rep assured me that he's not going to lie to me which is true, but not being able to say what the rate is now seems shamefully shady and I imagine that's what the company trained him to tell me. On top of that, when I was asked if I understood that SmartEnergy would not be my utility provider but would be my electricity provider, I found it odd that "I understand." was not a satisfactory answer and was asked "Is that a yes?" Seems convenient for a company to have a soundbite of the word "yes" that they can use within their recorded calls. As an electricity provider, I'm sure they can provide electricity well. But buyer beware, for their sales tactics seems shady at best to me and gives me doubt that I want to do business with them. 2-stars because I had to rate them to post this.

My electric service was transferred to SmartEnergy in the fall without my consent
My electric service was transferred to SmartEnergy in the fall without my consent. They claim someone else gave them permission to transfer from AEP even though I am the only name on the account and account holder. I called in *** after getting a $320 plus electric *** due to their rates doubling. They offered a $100 *** card which was never received. I called again 3/14 and was told they sent a card in another person's name and wanted me to verify them. The name given is my ex-husband who passed away in 2015 and was never on the account. Again, I asked how someone else was allowed to transfer my utility *** which has since doubled, and I now owe over $500 for *** and February 2022. I am a senior on SSI. I did pay some of the *** and they still have not sent the $100 *** gift card which was to offset some of the charge in ***. I am requesting a credit to cover this illegal action. There has been no resolution when calling and they say they will check on it. This needs to stop.

As part of a promotional program and to entice customers to switch from Eversource to 'SmartEnergy', a mailer was sent out offering a gift card after remaining a customer for 6 months with a fixed-rate electricity supply. I switched two accounts for my mom's home and my own. During this period, I was caring for my mother who had Dementia, which caused me to forget about the program. Subsequently, I noticed an increase in my bill due to charges from SmartEnergy and realized I had not submitted the 6-month bill copies and the request for the 'Thank You reward'. Upon discovering how high the bill had become, I contacted them to inquire about the gift cards they owed me for participating for at least 6 months (although I had been participating for over a year) and was informed that they could not honor them. I have recently received a new mailer offering the same promotion. This is false advertising and represents dishonest and bad business practices. How can assistance be provided to me and others in similar situations?
Told me my bill wouldnt change and offered a gift card. My bill went up over 30%. Had a very difficult time cancelling. I was on hold for 30 minutes and it took the representative 10 minutes to cancel my service.
I noticed that my bill had went up $2053 over a 4 month period. When i went back and looked at my bill, it was because Smart Energy went from charging me around $90-$100 per month to $200 one month, then $390 the following month $564 the month after that, then $652 and the last month they charged me $481. They said they sent me out a letter, that I never received and the increase was due to inflation. When I tried to file a complaint through them, they only offered me a $100 gift card (that I was suppose to get for sighing up and never received) and $130 credit. I can understand prices going up a little bit, but a 500% increase is outrageous and times are too hard right now to be playing with people's money. If someone could help with this, I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks :)
I was mailed an offer by smartenergy to switch over to their electric company and so I called the number on the offer because I was curious
I was mailed an offer by smartenergy to switch over to their electric company and so I called the number on the offer because I was curious. I was told that my rates would be lower than my current energy company. I thought this was great since I could barely pay my current electric bills so I accepted and signed up. But then once I got my ***, the cost shot well over $100! I can't afford that! What's strange about this *** is that the usage chart on my *** says I used only about 552KW this month, which makes sense because 302+250=552. However looking closer, I'm also getting an extra charge from smartenergy for an EXTRA 302KW which doesn't make sense because 302+302+250=854 not 552. Basically what I'm saying is that either my *** is lying to me or I'm being scammed for double the power usage that I'm actually using. I require that smartenergy be removed from my electric bills IMMEDIATELY and that the charges for this imaginary energy that I've been supposedly "consuming" be refunded or else I won't be able to pay my bills!

Someone signed me up for smart energy without my consent. I tried calling them and the stated they had a recording of me giving consensual permission to change my energy over when I asked for the recording. Agent stated that they could not provide it at that time. They sent me a bill for 400 in July and 400 in August. I never paid such high bills. I want them to waive these payments because I did not sign up for Smart energy.
DO NOT SIGN UP WITH SMART ENERGY! Please read my entire review and take a look at the photos I've included. SMART ENERGY IS A SCAM! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM! MetEd only charges a few cents per KWH, whereas SmartEnergy was charging me 18 cents per KWH, which is more than double the amount. It's unbelievable and definitely a scam. A MetEd representative advised me to never use SmartEnergy again, as it essentially results in a double bill for the same energy.
Last month, I accidentally made two payments of $77.28, but I wasn't too concerned because I thought it would cover the next month's bill. Typically, my energy bill ranges from $50 to $60 a month. As you can see in the photo, SmartEnergy charges their own bill in addition to what I would have been charged by MetEd.
DO NOT SIGN UP WITH SMART ENERGY
Update 9/20/22 - I received my bill for September. Normally, I would be paying less than $45, but now I am faced with a bill close to $135 due to this SCAM!
This company sent my mother a flier with an offer of a pin number that would enable her to access a $100 *** gift card. I believe this company, smartenergy, has Intentionally designed their flier to mislead senior citizens. When they contact the company to access their pin number, they will unwittingly switch their electric service over to smartenergy. It is most misleading because the top line of the flyer States in bold type "PPL customer: this is your pin". This is missleading because unless you read the very tiny print on the bottom you do not realize that you will be giving permission to switch service to another company away from PPL. I believe this company has set out to intentionally mislead senior citizens to get their business. I asked that you follow up and take a look at the flyer I've attached.
I have Ohio Energy for electric and I'm the sole resident and mail recipient at my address
I have Ohio Energy for electric and I'm the sole resident and mail recipient at my address. On my postal informed delivery, there was a screenshot of mail from Smart Energy about a $100 gift card. It was addressed to someone who used my address without my permission. When I went to get it from the mailbox, it wasn't there. I met this person at a neighbor's about 6 months ago, but he has never been to my place. This is the second time he has used my address; previously, I received a bank card addressed to him, which I destroyed. Every time I try to call Smart Energy customer service to report it, my phone powers off as they answer, which is frustrating. The local post office hasn't been much help. I'm reporting this attempted fraud using my address to you now as I'm uncertain of further steps. Thank you.

Smart Energy has added almost $400 to my bill and is claiming that I signed up for it on May 1st, 2022 after 10:30am. 1.) I work as an operations manager and have daily KPI calls with upper management during these hours & 2.) Why would I need to sign up for a smart energy program when I do not own the house where I live, I am just renting. I called the number that was at the bottom of my bill and a foreigner answered and gave me a very nasty attitude when I attempted to get to the bottom of this! I do not understand how they could have been able to do this!
We received an offering from Smart Energy for a promotional Gift Card with an 800 number to provide personal information. Questions included information regarding our energy supplier. There was no mention that this would involve changing our energy supply company nor the kWh rate. We just received our first bill and the kWh rate has doubled from what we were paying. We also have never received the promised $200 gift card. I feel this marketing strategy was very deceptive, unethical, and very misleading. Smart Energy needs to be truthful and forthcoming about details when offering promotions. We absolutely would never have accepted this change in energy supplier and still have never received the promised gift card. The business practices of Smart Energy should be brought into question and full disclosure given if a change is to occur and the increased rate.
In the fall of 2019 when I bought my home, we signed up with SmartEnergy for a fixed rate of electric supply for 6 months, after that, it was a variable rate. I was told we could cancel after the 6 months, which we did. However, after we cancelled, SmartEnergy was periodically becoming our energy supplier on our national grid bill for 1-2 month stints, which we did not agree too. Because of this, they have been charging us an insane amount without our knowledge. I spoke with them today on the phone and they told me we did not cancel, but i know that we did. I unfortunately don't have documentation the cancel because i did it over the phone mid 2020. I have since made sure it was cancelled, but now they are refusing any sort of reimbursement for the high charges that we did not authorize.
I signed up for Smart Energy in July 2022 based upon the assurance that their kWh rate was extremely reasonable. Instead, I have been charged upwards of triple the amount I paid through ***. My bill in July 2022 (prior to going with Smart Energy) was $190. My August 2022 bill jumped to over $260 and now my September 2022 bill is over $400. I want any contract that I have with Smart Energy terminated immediately based upon their predatory behavior, as well as a credit to my bill for at least $420 that they charged me under the guise of their lie about their rates, as well as a credit for anything they plan on charging me for the month of October 2022.

The following pertains to the company SmartEnergy On 3/24/22 I received a flyer in the mail. This flyer is laid out in a way that makes it appear to be from your current energy supplier offering a voucher. In bold print is your current info and a number to call which is misleading.I called to inquire what it was about, they had my name and current address they knew who my energy provider was, now when they began asking for billing info I played dumb, I got bored and hung up. They called back and went as far as to get my energy provider on another line and tried to switch my usage to their company.I find these kinds of business practices to be extremely shady. If I was say elderly, slightly dim witted, or just had a head full of cough medicine I would have unwittingly subscribed to god only knows what kind of contract. Smart Energy uses misleading documents to lure potential customers into a contract without fully disclosing cost or calculations on power usage. I found many other similar complaints online and I am contacting the Complaintsboard.com in hopes that something will be done.

Hello, I canceled my SmartEnergy account back in May , and I just discovered that I continued to be billed and charged for the duration of my residence until my relocation out of state in May 2022. This cancellation was processed through my energy supplier AEP OHIO, and they confirmed at the time that the account was indeed closed. Today, I received a notice from SmartEnergy claiming that I owe a balance of over $100. Firstly, I have never before received a billing notice directly from SmartEnergy; all payments were made through AEP, and my balance with them is fully settled at $0. Secondly, the account was supposed to have been terminated as of May . I require immediate assistance to rectify this situation.
Smart Energy is misleading their customers by claiming to provide lower-cost renewable energy. They explicitly assured there were no contract obligations and that cancellation was possible at any time. However, I terminated their services due to exorbitant charges compared to PSEG. The difference was not apparent until I received my first bill, which highlighted the stark contrast in costs between the two companies. Upon realizing this, I immediately discontinued my services with Smart Energy. Despite this, I was still billed $272 in the following cycle, which is outrageous. They refused to address the issue. Smart Energy's customer service needs to stop convincing customers of potential savings and instead provide a transparent cost comparison.
i was convince to join smart energy and then the charged me 3x the amount on my first bill
My energy was switched to this company without my consent
My energy was switched to this company without my consent. I never provided my information to anyone at that company or spent a gift card that was sent to me. I found out about the change via a letter from *** letting me know that my service was being switched at my request. When I contacted *** they were aware of this happening but said I needed to contact my state representative bc all that is required for something like this to happen is a letter from Smart Energy with my stolen account information and the switch is made without any verbal consent from me. I was told I need to cancel the service that wasnt requested and it will take from 11/5 until 11/12 to revert back to *** during which time the cost of my electric will increase from *** to *** kWhs, basically doubling the cost! When I told Smart Energy they said if I contacted the Complaintsboard.com it would increase the time it took to resolve the issue which is retaliation. I chose to file the complaint officially so that it goes on record and the company is held responsible for fraud despite any additional time that it takes to resolve.

I received several mailings from Smart Energy regarding receiving a gift card for $50 for each utility that you switch over to their company
I received several mailings from Smart Energy regarding receiving a gift card for $50 for each utility that you switch over to their company plus an additional gift card for $150 for keeping the service for 6 months. At first, I was apprehensive about signing up with the company as I already have a power company and it did not make sense; however, the sound of the free gift card was enticing. So, I reluctantly signed up. I should have gone with my first intuition. This company is a RIP-OFF. They charge you for usage in addition to the real power company charging you for service. Therefore, instead of just ONE *** you get TWO, and the Smart Energy one is MUCH higher. My first *** with them was $1000 more than my normal ***. The *** in total was $1500 for two months of service with no increase in usage! I had to apply for energy assistance and a deferment plan just to get out of danger of disconnection! If you are reading this, BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! This company is a scam and no one should EVER use them. I canceled my enrollment and was told that it would take up to 30 days for them to process it, so I could possibly get another ridiculously high *** before its all said and done! DO NOT trust this company, it will be the biggest mistake of your life.

I noticed my electric bill was going up a little each month. One month comes up and its tripe the price almost $400 and it just happened to be a month it was storming here in *** we were in and out of power for a few weeks. My air conditioning wasnt working for the whole month. So I knew something was wrong with the bill. I look at my statement and notice smart energy is charging me all this money and *** never signed up with them. I get letters from them all the time and they come to my doors Ive never signed paperwork to sign up for there services. I call AEP, my electric company, and they say I have to call smart energy. I call and I was telling them to show me proof that I signed up because never did. They never showed me proof or anything. I preceded to cancel further services and I was told I would receive a check in the mail. I got my statement today and they are still charging me! At this point I want to know how to cancel services and be refunded all my money they have scammed out of me. *** never signed up for these services I dont even have any emails from them or any paperwork saying I signed up. Im so upset with this whole situation. My electric bill is up to $650 and its usually $100-$140 at most! Thats at its highest. Its ridiculous and Im being robbed!

I do not know how this company allowed *** to give them permission to add an account to my Pepco billing without my authorization. The person does not live with me and had NO absolutely No access to my account or account number to give to them. They have been calling person that they see online as next of kind to persuade them to access people's account without consent which is against the law. The company must be held liable as this violation they have committed is fraud and a criminal action. I have had to deal with stress and high blood pressure arguing with the customer service and management for a week to only not get this resolved. Me and my husband have received a utility **** for almost $500 this month (01/26/2022)
Me and my husband have received a utility *** for almost $500 this month (01/26/2022). Of note, neither me or my husband are home and we barely use any energy or gas and our *** has always been in the range of $180-$200 with PSEG. Those additional charges that are over $300 is from company named SmartEnergy. In November , they sent us some kind of $100 gift card and when we called them, they provided us with false information that our rates will be lower and that we will be saving the planet by using them as a supplier. As a cherry on top, we get a $100 gift card in the end of 6 months with them. I DO NOT WANT EVEN ONE DAY MORE with this fraudulent company. Apparently they supply us with some kind of cosmic energy if you look at the ***. When I called them and asked them how do they count the rate, the representative started to explain me what special calculations they use which totally didnt make any sense and is made only to confuse people even more. After that, I have found tons of people who were scammed the same way. They also have an office when you search them on *** maps with almost 5 star reviews which are all fake reviews. There are occasional 1 star reviews from real scammed people. DO NOT EVEN TALK TO THEM! I will post it everywhere because people should know! I want adjustment of our *** and I want nothing to do with this company ever again! Scammers! You can find how many elderly people was scammed that way! Shame on you!I am a medical worker, I pay taxes and pay my bills always on time. Taking advantage of people always returns in a bad way.

I made a arrangement to use there service in exchange for a 200 gift card after 6 months of usage
I made a arrangement to use there service in exchange for a 200 gift card after 6 months of usage. It's been a year I just received instructions to claim said gift card. I called to claim said gift card and was told I needed to call eversource power company in *** to find out why smart energy was not getting there money? I explained that eversource would not explain nor confirm that money was owed to smart energy. I explained to smart energy that I have no control other then paying my *** to eversource, and can not tell eversource what to do with money they received. I asked multiple customer representatives for a way to identify who I talked to and specifically what office they were working out of so I could file a complaint with Complaintsboard.com. The only response I was ALLOWED to have was a name and extension. All and any other information was NOT allowed to be given to me. This is clearly a scam and diversion tactic to gain customers without fulfilling there end of the deal. The deal was sign up with smart energy and use there service for a minimum of 6 months and receive a 200 *** gift card as a incentive. Now that it is time to complete there end its they haven't received a payment from eversource since June 30th of 2021. Even though I can prove I have been paying eversource every month with receipts and confirmation numbers. Why eversource isn't paying there 3rd party is not up to me nor in my control. All I Can do is pay what is owed on my ***. I've talked to friends/ family and they have received the same treatment of being talked to like we are stupid and being told it is what it is.

My name is redacted
My name is redacted. I am the domestic partner of redacted. Last year we took advantage of a promotional offer by Smart Energy to change our supplier. We needed to call by August 30 to enroll and give them the following pin redacted. We called on August 29. We were told that if we maintained Smart Energy for 6 months we would receive a $100 redacted gift card. We maintained Smart Energy from September 17 to March 18, 2022. We did not hear anything so after about a month I called at the following number: redacted. Talked with redacted (did not give his last name). He could not find anything. Called back later talked with redacted (did not give his last name). He indicated the gift card had been approved on May 3, 2022 and we should have received it. He transferred me to the gift card company (CardHolderService). I hope that is right. They could not find anything and they gave me a tracking number if I needed to call back. It is redacted. I did subsequently call back several times and they continued to say they had no record of a request from Smart Energy. We also received numerous Emails to both of our accounts from the card company asking for more information. We gave them all the information we had. Someone has dropped the ball on this. I've written to several addresses I have of the company: redacted, redacted, and redacted. Please help. We can be reached in one of the following ways. redacted (home) redacted (mobile) redacted (mobile)

I'm filing a compliant against , Smart Energy
I'm filing a compliant against , Smart Energy. I felt that I've been mislead . I had not knowledge of the affiliation between PSE$G and Smart Energy, I assumed that Smart Energy was a part of my services rendered into my monthly bill. Until I received a outrageous bill not understanding that Smart Energy was a third party electric Company attached to my PSE&G bill .So I called Smart Energy and address my compliant concerning .as well as not having a written contract with them. They have record of a verbal conversation with someone from Smart Energy. Not knowing that they were a third party company ,separate from PSE&G . I voice my complaint with a supervisor name Marlene ,sometime in January and February . I was told that I could cancelled my account with they at any time and would offset the cost of the enormous charges for that month, as well as correct the billing cycle so the charges would not show up on my next bill. I thought that all the correction was made ,, I received a February bill all the charges seem to be Okay! Smart Energy were not attached to my Feb, bill Until I get my PSE&G bill for March. Theirs were back attached on the March bill as well as with a bill that at time I'm unable to pay.. I fear of them turning off my service . I pay my bills on time as well as the full amount due. I contact Smart Energy of the urgent matter on April 1,2021 . I spoken with a agent from with Smart Energy , they informed me that they would offset the cost fo the bill of $320.00 and they would compromise by giving me back $ 130.76 within a two week period .And that the billing cycle would start sometime in April! When I thought that this Issued was resolved .
Smart Energy Holdings LLC is a third party energy provider through a known Power company
Smart Energy Holdings LLC is a third party energy provider through a known Power company. Our business cancelled with them once back in 2019. IMMEDIATELY the company called us at least twice that same day to try and con us into signing back up with them. Unfortunately, they called at a later date/time and got someone on the phone who didn't know that our contract was cancelled with them. Once I realized from our energy bill (a month ago) that we were again under contract with them, I contacted them by phone & by email. Our new bill came yesterday, and the charges are still there. The person on the phone today was not helpful at all. Whoever I spoke with at Smart Energy is claiming they never received either phone call or email of request of cancellation. That is extremely hard to believe, considering the very same day we sent that request & the next day, I again started receiving MULTIPLE phone calls from them asking us to sign up. There's apparently no record of that either. How convenient. Now we have a new $124.62 charge on our energy Account, I was told that they could "send a cancellation request" to the power company, but it would be 24 hours for them to process, and we would still be responsible for the supply charges for up to 2 future billing cycles. This is unacceptable and a terrible business practice. If I request a cancellation today, it should be processed and supply should stop today. I understand paying from 7..2020-7..2020 - HOWEVER, we should not be paying them at all. They had our cancellation information. It's a lie for them to say they didn't. Why would their company call that same day to ask us to set up service with them, if we already had an account? Doesn't add up.

We started rented in July at our address
We started rented in July at our address. We have AEP as our source of electric. On our August 2022 bill went had the charge of ***, when our bills were running along the amounts of *** a month. I started looking closely at the bill and saw that a supplier by the name of Smartengery was charging us as a supplier. We call Smartengery immediately explaining we did not open an account with them. I spoke with a ***, he could not find me in the system through any time of information he requested from me but found the name *** connected to the account by address. *** explained that an investigation would be performed and he would call back within two to three days. We did not get a call back. Then we received a second bill for September with the charge of *** and a disconnection notice. Again we called Smartenergy back and talked to ***. *** took all the information and said we will do an investigation and and call you back. This time they Smartengery called back and stated that the account was closed but that we still owed the *** charges because that account was open prior to the investigation and the closing of the account. Though my information was not read back to me I was told I could not get a copy of the contract, and that AEP is at fault for the billing. We called AEP and it was explained to us that until Smartenergy dropped the charges of *** there was nothing they could do on their end. This has been a back and forth battle that has caused me severe headaches and anxiety. I did not sign or vocally agree to any contract with Smartenergy and have been a faithful customer of AEP for years. I feel like someone has scammed me and that I am being charged unfairly for a bill on an account I knew nothing about until I started getting charged for the services that I did not approve.

I want ComplaintsBoard.com to be aware of predatory and unfair business practices of Smart Energy Holdings, LLC, the electric supplier
I want complaintsboard.com to be aware of predatory and unfair business practices of Smart Energy Holdings, LLC, the electric supplier company that recruits customers without their permission and without notifying them that they are, in fact, their customers, and also of unfairly raising prices to take advantage of their customers. I did not know that I was Smart Energy Holdings, LLC customer. I discovered it on 06/03/2022 because they suddenly raised my electricity price from $9.1 per kW to *** per kW. I called BGE and they told me that I am a customer of ***, LLC from February . I called Smart Energy Holdings, LLC ***) and they told me that I was recruited over the phone and my account number is ***). I asked to be immediately released back to BGE and also asked about sudden raise of price (over 200%). They responded that it was because of the overall raise of gas prices. I responded that we do not use natural gas, and also that according to Electric Choice tool from *** BGE rate is over 3 times lower than theirs. I also let them know that I have found ORDER NO. *** of *** regarding their company (***) where they were ordered to release all customers recruited over the phone by 10 calendar days after that order from March 31. I also asked them to compensate me with the difference of their price to BGE price in accordance with ORDER NO. *** of *** (MPSC). I notified Smart Energy Holdings, LLC, that I will be filing a Complaint with MPSC for their predatory business practices and illegal recruitment of customer who never gave them permission to be recruited and for compensating me for the difference between their prices and BGE prices for all the period that I was their customer without my permission.

My electric rates have increased since March. The bill in March was $450 and in July $630. I am 72 years old and the only person in my home. I never use my dryer and did not use my air conditioning the last month to lower my expenses. I have NEVER had two bills this high. I have resided here for 40 years. When I called the electric company, they simply told me they were charging me the highest rate for electric service. I have filed a complaint with the regulatory authority. This company should be prohibited from offering electric service to anyone. They are unscrupulous! I have switched providers and no longer use their service.
My electric *** has been better, lower with this program and I feel better about helping the environment.
I experienced the same thing as apparently everyone else here. Was preyed upon in a *** with promises of lower rates, my last several bills have been 4x the rate of my local supplier - $300-$400 each, and after I cancelled, they charged me for ANOTHER month and refused to reimburse me. Should absolutely be illegal; it is completely predatory.
