spokeo will indeed sell your deleted info
I too believe that Spokeo will sell your personal info that you thought you had removed. I have been trying for almost a month to have my info removed so people can't buy a report about me.
Each time I contact customer care (at either [protected]@spokeo.com or [protected]@spokeo.com) or reply, I not only include the URL, I also attach a screenshot that clearly shows my name and the words "latest report as of XX/XX/2016."
Each customer representative responds the same way: "The removal request pertaining to the listing(s) you provided is complete. Please allow a maximum of 72 hours to see this change take effect on Spokeo."
I wait 72 hours and guess what? My info is STILL being sold. Once I received a message saying: "This email has been escalated to the Spokeo Privacy Supervisory team in order to provide you with the best possible assistance. A Spokeo Privacy Supervisor will remove the requested information within 72 hours." Nothing but LIES! The "team" didn't do anything.
Spokeo doesn't care about my privacy and is deliberately ignoring my repeated requests for help. Spokeo and all the people working there have no integrity.

this site will sell your info even though you think it has been removed
I thought I had removed my info from Spokeo so that it wouldn't be available to the public. Well, I was completely fooled. When I searched for my name on Spokeo, I got a no results found page. However, when I did a Google search for my name, one of the ads in the search results took me to a Spokeo page where my info could be purchased.
I contacted customer service and was told that my removal request was complete and to wait 72 hours for the change to take effect. NOT TRUE! When I later went to the page, my info was still available for purchase. The appearance of the page had changed, but someone could still have bought my info. How ethical is this?
I am so sick of these despicable people/phone number search sites. I hope they ALL go out of business. They don't care about anyone's privacy.

beware of spokeo's fees!
I don't understand anything about the fees on this site. A free search will show you some information, but all the details will be blocked. If you want to see more you need to subscribe for 6 months at a rate like $4.95 a month. After 6 month you will get a "Platinum" subscription for $0.95 for 7 days. Well I subscribed because I wanted to find my long lost friend. The site gave 20 name searches with old numbers and addresses. In the end I did get to make contact with a my friend.This website is very expensive, you need to pay for almost everything! Want a social media info, another $19.99 a month, until you click on something else, then it is $12.99 a month, or $11.80 a month to get search results, not specific details. Oh, and once your 20 searches are over, every detail gets hidden again, even though you have a subscription. This company is a real scam!

email search is a total scam
I keep seeing these advertisement for Spokeo... find what you're looking for. Their ad and home page says they use deep web technology to find people. That's a load of crap. I wasn't looking for anyone in particular so i thought I'd start with an email address that I use on occasion. I've held this same address for 5 years and have several social media accounts linked and guess what spokeo couldn't find it. So I moved on to my mom's one and only email address. Nope nothing. I tried my brother's email, who's active on all sorts of social media and spokeo gave me 15 possible facebook profiles, none were my brother. I haven't tried any of the other services but I can say that the email search was a total failure for me.

I still think it was a bit of a scam because it was not easy to communicate to them that I did not want their service, but to be fair, they did pay the money back; so good for them; and no harm, no foul... I tried out their service, and before I even left the site, I demanded a cancellation.
I tried their service, found it useless, tried to cancel it, got no response, left a message in contacts, and thought the problem was resolved only to find out that I am being charged for a service that I have not used and was worthless... My charge card will quit paying this, and if they pay these thieves another penny, I will drop that card and never deal with them again... This is the danger or on line commerce... There is always some crook like spokeo trying to sell something you don't need or handing you a bill you do not agree with...

Spokeo makes it non transparent as to account status. I have attempted to close account do to spokeo not living up to my needs. I still got billed again. There is no way to look at account status or apparently to stop billing. I had to inform my bank that any spokeo related charges are not at my request. In order to find address information on someone I had lost contact with, I paid Spokeo $.95 for a trial membership. Upon discovering that their information was not up to date, I immediately canceled my "membership." I was then charged $19.95 8 days later for a one month membership. When I called to get a refund, they refused.

I signed up for this service because I wanted to locate my ex-husband who is $70, 000 behind on child support for our 3 kids.
I signed up to pay for a service that just took me to links to pay for more services that didn't work. I cancelled the service and I am continuing to be charged which as a single mother is not what I need. The last payment that was taken out over drew my bank account causing over draft fees another thing I don't need. I would advise anyone thinking about signing up Don't do it it's a scam and once you realize you've been scammed and try to get away from them they continue to steal your money. I have tried contacting the company but you can only call about billing inquiries between 6am and 5pm. Which just so happens to be the time of day when I have to get kids up and to school and then myself to work where I stay til 5. Tried calling during my lunch break but I guess the operator they had on that day was busy since I just waited on hold I tried emailing them but that has been another waste of time

Spokeo gives some more information than Instant Checkmate BUT still expect more money for more info. When I went to cancel the $1 trial, they claimed that they did not have such a trial but something called bizshark from their site did. They offered to cancel the bizshark but refused to cancel Spokeo until just before the time ends. Even then, I have to call them back again to cancel! Dont waste your money!

Do not conduct business with this company. My credit card was processed immediately for a very, very basic report. When i read that i was "good to go", i returned to the search page and the information was the same. Nothing was "upgraded'. When i emailed a rep her reply was that there was a technical difficulty with the transaction processing, but everything was fixed.

I watched a hearing from washington tonight, that took place on wednesday, december 18, 2013 and found out that spokeo was one of many companies that has to pay a huge fine.

cancelled subscription and have been charged 2 months straight afterwards. be sure to watch your credit card statements after cancellation odds are they are still charging you.
i have already contacted them 2 times and was sent generic emails with auto response. i guess this is the best way to deal with complaints is to ignore them. if you would actually put what your signing up for from the start i would have never bothered signing up. apperently you like to hide stuff in the fine print sneaking it past the consumer. when i sign up for a service i want only the service i am signing up for and nothing else. with that said when i cancel evrything signed up for should be cancelled not just what you decide. iwas unware of the identity theft that i was signed up for by using your services. i would have never known how to cancel that service and was never supplied the unformation to do so or it would have been done. so when i cancelled your service i thought all should have been cancelled.

SPOKEO is a scam! I performed 2 searches on known names and email addresses and yet i did not recieve any results. I have contacted customer support THREE times! I have not even so much as had one response. They state on this website that they have a "no refund policy" which is b.s. because on the FAQ page this is posted:

the longer I am with them, the more I realize how out of date their database is
When I started with Spokeo, it seemed that they had a lot to information to offer. But the longer I am with them, the more I realize how out of date their database is. I run 20-30 searches per day to confirm my marketing data, and at least half of them are incorrect (emails bounce back and phone numbers don't match). Even my own phone number which I have had for 12 years now is incorrect on their site and my number is not blocked or unlisted.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
What little information Spokeo does have is typically old and of no use. And yes, if you sign up for a three month period they do charge you for the full three months but they make it clear when signing up for those of you who are not illiterate.
The bottom line is that it isn't worth paying for.
spokeo says they are free, but they charge and don't mention when they take your money that you are limited to a certain number of searches and when you cancel even though you have 2 months paid for they want issue a refund and want you to upgrade so they can flim flam you out of more money and to be honest you could Google the people you look up and get better information.
I used Spokeo for the free reverse email search. It stated that it had found it and I needed to pay to see the information. After I paid, I found out that there wasn't any additional information. When I asked for a refund, they gave a partial refund. What a rip off!
I found that this company was offering for sale on the internet not only personal information but also social security information to anyone wanting to pay a few bucks. This should not be allowed eventhough some personal information is public this goes way too far.
i was under the impression that the fee was $2.95 a year. And did not specify that $35.00 would be deducted from my debit at one time. I would appreciate it if I can be reimburst for my funds. Yes I did cancel my subscription as soon as I checked my balance on my card, and found out that $35.00 was taken from my card.

SPOKEO is a scam! I performed 2 searches on known names and email addresses and yet i did not recieve any results. I have contacted customer support THREE times! I have not even so much as had one response. They state on this website that they have a "no refund policy" which is b.s. because on the FAQ page this is posted:

they will not give you a refund when you discover their site is a scam
Terrible...a people search website that promises to retrieve info from hundreds of databases, including social sites...has reverse phone lookup, etc. Perhaps before people began tightening down on internet privacy, this site could have been effective, but now there's no info available out there on anybody. Usually Spokeo's search cannot even find someone who is registered on Facebook. No refunds are given either, so if you sign up for the 3 or 6 month subscription in hopes of saving money, they will not give you a refund when you discover their site is a scam.

Hello...this isn't really so much a complaint, as it is a question you could help me with. My younger cousin used my card to open an account in order to look up contact information for an ex of his. This was of coarse done without my knowlage, or permission. I'm about to cancel the subscription directly after this comment is finished. Is there a process or way to get a refund for this? I don't want to persue legal action, as he is family, and a kid. Anything we can do here?

For this reason, Spokeo preserves and protects the privacy terms of all third-party content and does not grant access to private email accounts, profiles or blogs. Our information depends entirely on the amount of digital footprints left by email users, as well as the privacy settings maintained by the user. The reason you did not see profile matches for the individual you were searching for may be because they have their profiles set to private. These days, the privacy settings, especially at Facebook are very customizable. Should the user (of one of our supported sites) not want to be found, we honor that at Spokeo.

Spokeo is fraudulent and a scam. I searched a phone number that had been calling me, and Spokeo said the full name and address of the owner of the phone number were available, but I must purchase a subscription to view this information. Once I purchased the subscription, no name or address were available. Having people sign up for a website under false pretenses is fraud. It's false advertising, and it's absolutely unethical. The customer service rep I spoke with on the phone said, "That shouldn't have happened." I told him to do the exact same thing I had done, and he confirmed my facts were straight. Despite a company representative acknowledging that they acted in a fraudulent manner, they still have not refunded my money. Stay away from these crooks.

taking $14.98 from a customer every month is stealing
I canceled my subscription after 5 minutes when I realized that on my paypal account it said it would be charging me 14.98 EVERYMONTH. It is a 3-month subscription! I should be getting charged every THREE MONTHS, taking $14.98 from a customer every monh is STEALING. The site says is is appox. $5 a month, then why are you charging$24.98 PER MONTH? Not to mention the fact that I was lead to believe I would be getting a free trial. I sent a message to customer support a litter while ago and I would really like a full refund.
