I like Sun Tan City because although it is more expensive than the other tanning salons, the hours seven days a week, 10-10, make it convenient to tan anytime you have the time. I like the beds large size and the a/c and fans, music, the face and shoulder tanning are great and the cleanliness is wonderful.
What I don't like is the lines even though they have lots of beds. The push on products that I think are outrageously expensive is annoying. I don't understand why the members have to wait to tan while they sign in new members. The manager or salon director is not friendly at our location. Her employees are much nicer.
On one of my days to tan, as normal they pushed their special of the week on products, it was a large bottle of moisturizer, for a really decent price. I liked the smell of this particular lotion so I agreed to buy it. When I handed over my debit/credit card to pay, the employee tried to run it and run it several times, finally I said why not try to type it in. That did not work, instead of trying to run it on another register, the manager came over and tried the same thing, I knew that my card was good, the line for tanning grew and grew and I was humiliated when the manager said "its not going through, would you like to try another card?" I said no and left. Three days later I am looking at my on-line bank statement and low and behold there is a charge from Sun Tan City for the amount of the moisturizer that I did not get! So I ran off a copy and highlighted the amount and walked into my STC location and got the same manager. She looked over my entire bank statement and questioned who the employee was, ran my membership and finally gave me another moisturizer, not the same one I was going to purchase that day, because they were sold out. I told her that day the card wouldn't go through, I went to Krogers and TJ Maxx afterward and had no trouble with my card. She blamed it on the out going line of the register. No apology or smile for the humiliation of looking like a dead beat. I guess I can thank my lucky stars that I did not have ten bottles charged to my card! I think they could improve on customer service and less on products and signing in new members by taking care of the ones that pay the monthly memberships.

keep taking money out of your account
I canceled my account with Sun Tan City however they continued to take money out of my checking account. I had to go in twice and then they would not return my money. Waiting times would sometimes be 35 to 45 minutes. Would not recommend them to anyone!
Sun Tan City will take money out of your debit card and if you change cards will take money out of your checking account..
I lost my job (by the way, this was the second time I went to suntancity and no problems with taking money out of account with debit card for six months) but, when I lost my job and could no longer pay and I believe I had 2 to 3 months left on six months contract they would not stop it (even with economy like it is today) and I offered after I found another job, if stc would stop until found job, then I would be happy to continue my visits to stc and also continue to take out of debit card and I got a NO...
I chnage debit card numbers and stc then took out of my checking acct..
You are going to loose customer over this, even though you do have good tanning beds, but you charge too much this year went up 10.00 per mth for six visits and another 10.00 for one month of service..
Obvisiously, You don't care about your customers are people in general with today economy..
worst service known to man
I went to the SunTan City in Portland Maine and received the worst treatment ever. Not only did it take them 15 minutes to aknowledge me, but i must have interupted their lunch because they put their food down and gave me the look of death without a smile or a "how can i help you"! The guy behind the counter kept pushing anything and everything on me from tanning lotion, to packages, to eyewear and moisturizer. All I wanted was a tan! When I refused to buy anything I was brushed off and put into a room without being shown how to use the bed! I will never return to that overpriced, under serviced crap hole again! I strongly encourage people in this area to find a local place where you are treated properly for the money being spent! Clearly every STC has customer service issues, is this the way they train you? Boo to you SunTan City!

Rip Off City! $11.00 for a pair of "Peepers" that cost them .50 at the most. Waiting 10 minutes to get checked in while someone smells all 300 bottles of lotion. Basic tanning beds suck, you have to upgrade to get any color. Constant hawking their products very annoying.

It is def irritating when you are trying to get checked in and the employee is taking forever to sell something to a customer! I went in to the Frankfort location on 3/16/12 to tan for the first time. One girl was waiting on a client and it was HORRIBLE! I got to hear about her boyfriend and how the customer was getting a spray tan so she could look hot naked for her boyfriend. The employee could not seem to stay on topic for anything! One poor little blonde was checking in customers and cleaning beds also. I felt so sorry for her! I was in there for 30 min and the one employee was still with the same customer and the one girl was doing the best she could. Needless to say I left!
awful experience
I like the whole unlimited tanning for a single price a month, but the idea of giving them my credit card in order to do so is what I hate. I was willing to pay for the complete contract up front, but they wouldn't let me.
