On December 13, 2010, I attempted to pay for an eye exam and glasses at our local Walmart. My check was denied by Telecheck. It took me several minutes to understand why the associate kept telling me the check had been refused as I have never had this experience before. I kept asking what was meant by "your check has been denied". The associate, of course, could not tell me why and could only give me a piece of paper with a phone number and a code for why the check was denied. This is the most embarrassing situation I believe I have ever been in. I cannot express in words the humiliation of this experience. I paid for the charges with a credit card, but upon calling Telecheck, it was determined that there had been a mistake on their part and incorrect information had been attached to my information. There is no excuse for a company to have as many complaints against them as Telecheck does. I have never written a bad check and do not intend to do so. I intend to boycott, as much as possible, any merchants who use Telecheck. The company caused me embarrassment in a town where I am known well by many people. There were people that I knew in the store at the time of this event and I am sure that Telecheck cannot contact each of them to tell them the mistake was Telecheck's not mine. When I return to pick up the glasses, I will ask if Telecheck corrected their mistake with Walmart. If not, I am considering contacting a lawyer about options concerning the mistakes that Telecheck made. I cannot be the only person who feels this way.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I recently found out about this company because they denied my payment to Amazon.com using my bank account. I have used the same account for many purchases with Amazon, and so never have had to think about the middleman. Suddenly I try to purchase an $86.00 TEXTBOOK for school, and I am not allowed to because TELECHECK decided this was "outside of my normal purchasing habits."
I am going to blog and write about this as much as possible until someone does something about this company and it's horrible business practices. If I have to write a letter to every person possible, or blog until I'm blue in the face...I do not believe businesses should be able to decide what I can spend my hard-earned money on.
I've been shopping with WalMart since they began. I've recently tried to cash a $114.00 check on an account I've had for at least 20 years which had a $5, 000 balance. I was given a little piece of paper to contact Telecheck with a 1-800 number. The number was in the PHILLIPIANS! The lady said I needed to fax a copy of my driver's license, social security card, and a copy of a current utility bill for proof of address. I said I would NOT be faxing this personal information out of the country and asked to speak to someone in the United States. She explained she couldn't give me any phone numbers within the U.S. I've tried to contact Telecheck's headquarters in Houston, TX but I've been unsuccessful so far. It's outrageous that a company can flag your account and make it so difficult to clear your name! Never mind the embarrassment of looking like a criminal to the other people standing in line.
It seems that a lot of businesses are using Telecheck which is such an incompetent company. Maybe we should all stop doing business with companies that use Telecheck. Then maybe Telecheck will change their practices. They sure don't listen the consumer.
Today I was denied clearance on a personal check I wrote at the grocery store where I've shopped for many years. There was absolutly no reason for the denial and the store manager quickly resolved the matter.
When I got home I called the 800 number for Telechecks and talked (finally) to a person who seemed to know even less about the matter than I did! As it stands now I have no idea whether the information I gave her has put me in good standing or if I will keep being "denied" for reasons unknown.
This was a startling episode for a person with sterling credit for the last 50 years! If it happens to me again I will certainly be contacting the Better Business Bureau in my town.
Shopping at Home Depot my check was denied. I called telecheck from the store. 5 minutes of entering data before I could speak to someone. When the barely understandable clerk answered, he said that I was denied not because of insufficient funds, but because the check was risky because it was check #4108 and the last check cleared on my account was #4106. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was disconnected!
I came home and called. went through the whole thing again, and was told that there wasn't enough money in the account. There was literally 10 times enough to cover the check. Requested a supervisor and guess what? Disconnected again.
Called a third time and told them that if they disconnected me again the next person they would hear from would be my attorney. Gee, the phones were suddenly working. The 3rd supervisor I talked to said my check was denied for 4 reasons.
#1 the amount. $165.77 She said that anything over $100.00 would be denied.
#2 the check number. Mine was 4108
#3 the frequency. I don't use this account often. I admit that.
#4 my history. I am 57 years old and have NEVER written a bad check.
I requested a copy of the information used to determine that my check wasn't good. She told me that they would send me an APOLOGY letter. Like that's going to do anything.
I requested a list of stores that contract with them, so as not to shop there. She told me that they didn't know which retail merchants used their services!
Sorry HomeDepot, you just lost my business. And, we were just there last night looking at a refrigerator and stove. I am telling everyone I am in contact with about my experience with HomeDepot and Telecheck.
Boycott merchants who use this service.
It was nice to see so many other complaints against Telecheck after being humiliated at my local Meijer store over a $59.00 check that was denied because it did not meet Telecheck's "guidelines". When I called the customer service number, I asked to please be enlightened as to what these guidelines were, since I was quite positive I had over 10 times the amount needed to cover the check in the account. Apparently, we don't write enough checks for their company to recognize us and it appeared suspicious. Really? Let's not forget that there was a sudden influx of checks in the past couple days...can we say Christmas? This was the most ridiculous thing I had ever experienced, and customer service was of no help at all. I beg any merchant who uses this company to please reconsider.
Someone needs to do something about telecheck four years ago my home was broken into. I went to Home Depo today four years later who uses telecheck my check was declined because my checks were stolen I sent telecheck a copy of my Driver License and a copy of the Police report twice and they still decline my checks this is not right to the people and to top things off the account that the checks were excepted by telecheck were written on a closed account one would think the checks would not have been excepted TELECHECK is a joke and should be put out of business they do more harm than good for people
telecheck ohio christmas blahs,
Here it is Dec 9, 2011 and its happening to me 5 times . Christmas holiday alots of people in lines totally embarrassed. I can't take it
anymore . I have now contacted the Attorney General of Ohio and listed all my issues. I don't know if this will help. But what else am I
to do. I think if every one contact theirs in their states maybe someone will stop this telecheck company and closed their doors. Phone
calls to them are helpless. especially when you talk to someone in the philippines thats reading of the computer screens. ask for a manager
or supervisor . Get the run around with them too. Please let me know if anyone got help. Christmas blahs
If telecheck is saying you were denied because you do not have a history of writing checks and it was over 100.00 they are as usual LIARS. I wrote a check at Walgreens because I did not have my debit card. Zero negative histiry with this account and check was DECLINED and I was totally EMBARASSED in front of other customers and of course the manager did nothing to help but brush me aside so he could get to the next customer. I could not even reach a human being at Telecheck and of course they are smart enough to not list a working number for their corporate offices for people to call. THIS IS A HORRIBLE COMPANY AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY THE AG OFFICE IN TEXAS
I think Telecheck is a scam. I accidentally picked the wrong account, an old account still on Amazon to pay something. It was my fault completely but it took weeks for me to find out and only because they also flagged my good account and my husbands account at another bank. I sent them proof and they still wouldn’t lift the ban on my check. I told Amazon I would be glad to pay then I’m not paying their scan recovery services.
