Termius Perfect in every way

My previous review said, "It seems that the developer has thought of everything with this app. It is simply perfect. Double tap for tabs, swiping up and down, etc. it really is amazing."

Well, it's not perfect anymore. The new keyboard setup is just awful. Totally non-intuitive with some of the few special keys shown above the regular keyboard being replaced with non-useful stuff like a squiggle (to show you what exactly?), the opportunity to make you terminal hide in a hole somewhere with just a single mistaken key press, a chance to have your password spat out in plain text into whatever app you happen to be running, an icon to the bridge-to-nowhere SFTP feature, etc.

Just let us customize this precious small piece of screen real estate the way we already were. Sometimes you developers should congratulate themselves on doing something perfect (see: previous review), transition the project into maintenance mode, and go get a beer to talk over what fantastic other things they can produce, in some other product that's not perfect yet.

Termius Great Extended Soft Keyboard

Cleanest look and feel too., but SFTP is locked behind a sub. model. I’d drop $59 for this in a heartbeat and consider up to $99, but even that would only get me 6 - 10 months of use under the subscription model. I have no fewer than 6 Raspberry Pi’s running throughout my house (not enterprise business) at any given time. Oh how sweet it is to do all I could want from my new iPad Air 3 without leaving the Lazyboy in the evenings. Well almost all. Not sftp. I don’t mind copying my Termius public key around by hand. That’s a good enterprise-pay feature. Ditto for on going Mosh dev, automated execution snippets, and so on. Until there is a one-time purchase option for personal use, or sftp is moved out to free, I see this as a product for business users. I could not recommend this product to makers or hobbyists. If you’re getting used to doing functional things on iOS/iPadOS now, hobbyists may as well get used to the individual quirks of something else with sftp instead, if you haven’t already tweaked your setup or copied your keys around.

Termius Simple, straightforward SSH client

I can't comment on many of the features as I use this solely for light administrative tasks. What I need it to do, it does very well. I love the simplicity of setting up hosts and I think the terminal themes are such a nice touch.

My only issues with the app are the short timeouts when the app is backgrounded, though I think the fault lies with iOS, not the app. If you switch apps, say to browse StackOverflow for a question, your session ends very quickly and you lose any processes attached to that shell (use of screen is a really good idea when using this app). In addition, if you're using port forwarding to access a web page served locally on the remote box, you have just enough time to start the forwarding, switch to safari, and load a page. After that, the tunnel breaks and you have to restart the forwarding of you load any more pages.

Besides the slight multitasking limitations (which, again, I think are due to iOS, not the app and are totally unavoidable), this app is fantastic. The free portion itself definitely deserves five stars.

Termius Serious Problem with new iPad

I’ve used this app since it was called ‘Server Auditor’ and until now it has always been outstanding. I purchased a new iPad a couple of weeks ago (standard 9.7 inch with cellular) and Termius now becomes unusable within a few sessions after new installation. Keyboard response times increase until the app simply locks up.

I’ve verified that ssh sessions from my Mac work fine, as it seems do those from my old iPad 2.

I’ve been unable to get any response from the developer regarding any of this despite numerous attempts. Sadly the other products out there don’t come close to Termius in features, but at least they seem to work on this iPad.

If Termius works for you it’s great, but unfortunately that’s no longer the case for me. Down to one star since its unusable on my iPad and I can’t get a response from the developer.

Still no response from Crystalnix and no update. I’ve switched to the ‘Prompt 2’ app which seems to work well so far. It seems to have all the features I need for the moment. Not cheap, but if it continues to work properly that’s what’s important to me.

Termius Pretty Great but Lacks One Thing

Overall, the experience with Termius is incredible. Often I’ll SSH into another computer to do my work, and Termius has made the experience nearly flawless.

LOVE:
- Keep Alive works extremely well
- Remapping Caps Lock — I remap to ESC because of the iPad Keyboard/Trackpad case lacks ESC.
- Having ^B as a UI button — I’m a heavy tmux user, and it can be handy.
- Port Forwarding — This has been randomly handy working with containers.
- Being able to really customize the on-screen keybind buttons to a lot of pretty useful things.
- Sync across all devices that can run the app.

LIVE WITH:
- The subscription model feels a bit steep, but overall the app is polished enough to justify.

ROOM TO IMPROVE:
- “Custom” / “Better” Themes! Even supporting the community’s “iTerm2-Color-Schemes” (GitHub) list of themes. The project has been great about adding in “exports” for other applications. Even being able to tweak the standard color set would be a huge step up. For example, the blue can be way too dark on the darker backgrounds.
- Nerd Font Symbol support
- Ligature Support

Termius Replaced several other SSH/SFTP clients on PC/Mac/iOS

I have been in IT for 15 years at this point and have used basically every major terminal emulator and SFTP client there is on every platform (PC/Mac/Android/iOS/Linux/Solaris/BSD/HP-unix/et al.) Paid, free, doesn't matter, I’ve shelled out the cash to buy serious SSH clients. But none have really cleaned up the whole experience as well as Termius here. I can shift between any of my systems, iPad, iPhone, Mac, PC and share the same set of devices, public key auth credentials, and scripts. Nobody does it like this, at this level of quality, in such a great looking cross-platform UI. Yes, it costs money for the subscription. SO WHAT! Do you want to have a cloud service that does all the above and gets better with time while responding to new tech? You gotta help pay the developers that make that work. Just give it a shot, the 14 day free trial thing will tell you all you need to know. For me, I have paid upwards of $700 for other systems that provide these features... on PC/MAC... but not mobile as well. So is Termius worth a few bucks a month? Of course. Would highly recommend.

Termius I downloaded the free version years ago

Now that I find myself in a new role, being able to use my iPad for more of my actions has become possible. Additional changes in iPadOS which promote the substitution of an iPad for carrying around a laptop have pushed me to l see how much I can get done just using an iPad. Part of my role is directly interacting with a handful of Cloud Based Servers. I looked over the many choices in the Store and found I had already gotten this one. So, I give it a fresh look. First it is still being updated regularly. It gets me quickly to the creation of a new Host with exactly the right questions and allows me to group hosts *with sensible defaultsincluding the ssh-key to be used! I was just blown away, when I needed to construct a tunnel forwarding, that this too was part of the FREE product and EASY to describe / turn on and off. This is now my GoTo tool when I need to bring up a fresh server or maintain and existing one. With this much features and support for the FREE version (no timeout, etc.), it is worth kicking the tires for yourself and about time I shoot money to the author to support this great tool.

Termius Faith restored: great terminal app and people behind it

Update June :

I'm never one to write a negative review and leave it out there if the problem is truly resolved. I'm very pleased that the update that came out a few days ago did correct this issue! I humbly retract my statement about the folks backing this great product and am glad I can fully use it again! Thank you for your continued support!

Update may2017:

The update a few months ago has made this app unusable for me. Whenever I create a vpn connection it logs me out of the app and I lose all my saved connections. I opened a support ticket and told them what my vpn client was. They were able to identify the issue and then asked me if I was interested in the business edition. This is an awful stance to take in my opinion. I use this primarily for home and once in a blue moon I connect over vpn with it but it's not bad enough it doesn't work anymore, losing all my connections is ridiculous and honestly is going to make me look elsewhere for a new ssh tool. Great product guys, but your greed is getting in the way.

Sincerely, former paying customer.

Probably the best I have used. Great for remote support. My only wish is that it supported GSSAPI but beggars can't be choosers. :)

Termius Impressed

I’ve been using this app for about a month now, and I’m happily impressed. I wasn’t expecting much, but I’m surprised by the amount of functionality that’s in the app.

To start with, I’ve had zero failures, lockups, or other issues. In fact, in a DHCP environment, the app is able to figure out which device I’m connecting to and submit the correct creds to log me in.

The organization of the hosts and groups is intuitive enough to figure out once and then remember for the future. This really save a lot of time.

Even the keyboard is well thought out. The tab key is well positioned (-ish) so that you have quick access to command completion. The arrow keys are buried behind an additional keystroke, but are certainly usable. The common Unix keys are accessible (;:/-. etc) without leaving the main keyboard which is nice.

As for security, the pass code lock of the app is nice, but I’m not confident it’s keep a determined attacker out, so I don’t recommend using the app for highly critical devices unless you choose not to setup the creds in advance and rather login fully each time.

Overall, I’m very satisfied and a bit surprised that it works so well. It’s become one of my key apps for day-to-day tasks with all the IoT d vices around the house (arduino, r-pi, NodeMCU,etc).

Termius By far the best out there, and getting better

I've used versions of this app for about a year and I can say this is by far the most usable terminal app out there. It's close to Terminal on a Mac, and uses similar format templates.

I tried all the popular iOS terminal apps (free and paid for ones). I used each about a week to get a good feel but this one is the only one I need now.

I spend a good deal of my day on one or many various flavors of Linux servers. If I'm on my iPad, this is the app I use. It uses split screen nicely, and you can even Tab out into another full-screen app for a couple minutes before the connection times out.

More features come all the time, and if you are missing something, tell them. They will do what they can and if others need it too, they will add it.

Some things do take some digging to figure out, but the support folks are very helpful.

Ssh keys work really well, multiple connections are smooth. Selecting and copy/paste text works..but not as well as on a Mac. Better than any other iOS terminal app though. I highly recommend the Copied app. It pairs nicely with this to have a copy/paste buffer.

Copying files to servers via sFTP is really smooth too. Though I wish it would work with some of the popular cloud storage services.

Ok, buy this then go drink all the booze and hack all the things!

Termius Single best UNIX shell app - EVER!

It's rare for an app to be so extremely well-constructed and functional that I'm willing to gush about it, but this one is IT! There is a *hugeamount of thought that went into each aspect of this app's design. Very easy to use, configure, and re-configure on the fly as your needs change.

As a SysAdmin for 25+ years, I need a solid, well-built shell tool, and after trying the others, I found this one and I love it. Once I establish a VPN connection, I can quickly fire up a session from my pre-defined list and I'm working in seconds. Everything you need to do, you can do, and it is incredibly intuitive how everything works so seamlessly. There were a couple of items I wanted to change, so I tried to change them (not knowing the "proper" way) in a way that seemed to make sense and it worked!

One minor suggestion, and it's really a nit: when we tap & hold the screen to select a bit of text, it would be incredibly useful if the default selection automatically selected the entire word that you tap on, instead of only part of it as it does now. That's the only item I've noticed which could use a tune-up.

UPDATE: I had a problem when subscribing to their service, but I was contacted directly and the devs totally and completely fixed the problem. Very nice, very helpful, these folks *clearlystand behind their product. This is the BEST terminal server program available!

Termius Actually an excellent ssh client for iPhone that that getting better

This app is surprisingly good and actually keeps getting better. I use it more and more to ssh into my various machines for work and personal use and can work the command line almost as well as on a desktop. You might be surprised how good and natural it actually feels.

The color terminal is nice. It supports copy/paste and wraps text as good or better than desktop clients do. The design looks really good and the resolution is great so you have a lot of real estate even in vertical mode. Of course the terminal tilts with your phone so you can have extra linespace by going horizontal - one of many nice little touches that make this app top notch.

The keyboard is very intuitive and you have all the keys you need to use vi efficiently. Is easy to find special characters and keys - even better than iMessage's keyboard!

The hosts file lets you store hostname, user, and password for a bunch of hosts (I have 12 or so and still have more space) so connecting is just a touch of a button.

When I use this app I don't at all feel like my hands are tied because I'm on mobile. I can really do pretty much anything I would in any desktop term right on my iPhone. Great app for real. I use it a LOT, because being able to ssh real quick on my iPhone has improved my workflow significantly.

No, I'm NOT affiliated with the dev. I just really appreciate the quality of this app. Great work.

tl;dr this app works *so wellthat if you need or want to ssh on the go, you're going to love it. 5/5!

Termius Great app, buggy of late though

I have used the premium version of this app for years now, and have recommended it to everyone using a Mac or iOS devices for years. I manage hundreds of servers with it, and have taken the time to group all of them, and import all my keys, etc.

Version 4.8.2 had all sorts of issues. Groups didn’t work. Searching failed most of the time. It crashed constantly. I reached out to support and never got any feedback or info. This was true on my iPhone as well as on both my iPads. So not limited to a single device.

Version 4.8.3 came out today, and every one of my connections crashed the app instantly when clicked on. Search still didn’t work, and Groups did nothing when clicked on to limit to just group members. At this point, I went down the path of finding a replacement, even though I’ve used it exclusively for years now.

Out of frustration of testing several other clients, none of which had the features I’ve come to appreciate in Terminus, I went back down the path of trying to contact support. On a whim, I decided to delete the app completely, and install it again. I had tried this several times on multiple devices with version 4.8.2, with no luck. After removing the app, re-installing, and logging into my account again, everything worked as it always has. I now have to try it on my other devices, to see if it fixes them as well.

I would love to say this was limited to a single bad install, but since it happened on 3 devices, with both updates, it’s not just one bad install. On a side note, the desktop client continued to work as it always has, with no issues.

Termius Gives me the creeps

AFAIK, this is the best ssh client out there. But, if you are security-conscious (which, let’s face it, you probably are since you want an ssh client), there are several things about it that you are going to hate.

One is the current model for paying for features. It’s not just that it’s a subscription; that’s annoying, but not really a security issue. It’s that you have to be logged into your account with the developer to use the extra features. So every time you want to have your ssh connections running in the background, for example, you also have to be talking to the developers’ servers. If that doesn’t wig you out, well, you live in a much more trusting world than anyone I hang out with. There are several features I would pay for if I could pay once and not have that unclean spyware sensation.

Another is that even when you explicitly tell it to use only ssh, it asks you every single time whether you want to use telnet instead. I do sometimes want to use telnet, for things like debugging SMTP or unencrypted HTTP. But I would create a different configuration for that! It completely creeps me out that it would be possible to, with one inadvertent click, send your saved password in cleartext. Not that I save my passwords here (only partly because of this issue).

These are my biggest two beefs, but there are a bunch of little jarring things along these lines. These problems illustrate a lack of understanding about how people who would use an ssh client like to work, and what is important to us. I worry about the technical underpinnings of an ssh client with such pervasive misunderstandings about How Things Should Work. If there were a serious competitor out there, I would probably switch.

Termius This is amazing!

I bit the bullet and got a subscription. I’m not a huge fan of subscription-based software, but in this case the developers really go out of their way to make a very streamlined app.

I no longer have to make encryption keys on every device. I can generate keys in the app and it even uploads the public key for you. It then synchronizes all the keys on all of your Termius apps across phones, tablets, and multiple operating systems on computers. If I need to hop through multiple servers to get around a firewall, it can handle that, too, with host chaining, which is a royal pain to to do manually with the ssh command. File transfers with SFTP is a breeze, too. Everything just...works. And for how many devices I manage, it’s a no-brainer.

Then, bonus, you can add snippets of code to launch on connection. My most used one will fire up a tmux session on the servers I have it installed on, or automatically reconnect to the last open tmux session. Log in, boom, back at the prompt. Coupled with mosh, it’s a virtually indestructible session that would otherwise take a lot of commands to launch every time.

My only complaint is, unless you use a custom snippet each time, you cannot use mosh to access the first server in the chain if you have host chaining. I want my mobile devices to use mosh, but if I have to hop through another server to get to the final server, I’d rather the middle server accept mosh from my iPad, for example, then if it uses plain SSH to get to the final server over a more reliable connection, that’d be ideal. But, tmux still helps because it will handle a dropped connection.

I have to make myself use the advanced features of SSH/SCP manually on occasion so I don’t forget them because this app will makes it really easy to forget how it all works.

Termius 4.1.1 fixes the hung login and crashes

I just updated to 4.1.1 and am now able to connect to my servers again. So, thanks for fixing this serious bug in the app! However, the release notes for this latest version seem a little disingenuous. The previous release didn’t crash because an incorrect password was entered. It crashed at random. Furthermore, there was never an opportunity to even enter a password, because the login process would get stuck on trying to load a private key that never existed. Eventually the login would either timeout or the app would crash. And what’s this about an unsupported authentication method in our sshd_config? Do you mean password authentication, because that should be supported by any reasonable SSH client? The truth is you guys released a buggy update that should have never made it past the testing phase. This bad experience doesn’t incentivize anyone to sign up for a pricey annual subscription, especially when their are so many alternative apps out there that are one-time purchases or free. Many of your users are professionals who rely on their smartphones for quick access to their servers from anywhere they have a cellular Internet connection. When your app breaks, it forces us to look for alternatives quickly. I now have another SSH app on my iPhone “just in case” your app breaks again. I have had to use it the last few days to get work done.

Please, please test your software more carefully before releasing another update!

11/6: I just updated to the most recent version (4.1.0) and now the app either crashes or gets stuck at trying to load a private key (which I have none on my phone, BTW) when attempting to login to one of my servers. It would appear that this update wasn’t tested thoroughly before its release. It’s times like these I really wish Apple would allow users to downgrade to an older release. Please fix ASAP! Thanks.

Termius Re:”When will this experiment end”

As the review above explains this person gave the best ssh client for ios I am aware of one star because he anticipates the developer will decide to continue dev based upon garnering enough revenue. He also says he looked thru the existing reviews and determined the stats are for the free version. First off there are over 12k reviews so I doubt this is a valid/honest assessment/statement. Secondly I have used this app (on iOS, Linux, winblows, and Android) for a looong time and the dev or devs involved are clearly invested in its future. I can count on one hand the number of reviews I have left in ten years on iOS and I certainly have never defended a developer. This review however is completely unfair. I manage huge critical infrastructures in the US with large teams. 185k nodes give or take, running multiple OS’s. My team is not small and unanimously it’s agreed we love this app and the support and attention it’s given. This is a production ready secure app(as far as I can tell. I haven’t stepped through it. Assess this for ones self as u always should). I have never had this app crash nor show any defects. Many apps seem to lose their screen position and orientation in my experience but not this one. Honestly imo he gives too much away for free. Certainly it’s not the framework of a person/s that are solely revenue oriented. However when you do work that’s good you should be paid equally well. Very few regular users need the paid version and if you are a business then why shouldn’t it be paid for. I can literally do my job from a phone. Easily even. I have been ten feet from a laptop and been known to use my phone. Not for trivial tasks btw. Sure Putty is free. Secure-crt however is more expensive for a year and honestly isn’t half the application. So let’s get real here...the Internet is not a fantasy land where one should spend 1000’s of hours writing code for multiple platforms and be paid 99 cents. Of course you can decide for yourself the value it holds for you and if that value justifies the expenditure but please don’t unfairly review devs that don’t deserve it. You have zero complaints other than the price and you knew what you were buying prior to buying it. You chose to buy it. Why? Why not download one of the many freebies? I’ll tell you why. You saw enough value in it and needed whatever features or stability that you found in it. If it’s a single person, many people, or 16 year old behind this I appreciate the efforts and result. I’d hire whoever is responsible.

Sir that was the most ridiculous review I’ve had the displeasure of reading. Btw...a sure fire way to assure revenue loss is to post one star reviews for no good reason. There is a real world on the other side of your keyboard. I certainly hope you don’t sabotage people as you apparently think is appropriate to do here.

Termius good ssh, slow to fix bad bugs, no clone server

jan2020- turning off wifi (and going to LTE) you have to close terminus and reopen else you can connect to any servers (instantly says connection failed when you tap a host).
+still does not have clone host function
+still does not have an export all hosts function (i’m not trusting any cloud sync system for hosts, as a result it’s incredibly cumbersome to every get a new iphone or do an icloud restore as you have to manually re-enter all your hosts!)
+i’ve purchased Prompt2 ios ssh app and will see how that goes (and have started to move my hosts over to that from terminus, will update here)

dec 2019-how do you all still not have the clone/duplicate host feature? it’s been on the feature request board as “on road map” for well over 3 years now. this is a critical missing feature..

nov 2019- still lots of gui bugs (mainly around the search hosts function) , very slow to release updates.

nov2018- they really need to add the clone server function, it’s not convenient for myself like many admin‘s who may have hundreds of servers to manage , to not have a clone server function (in terms of your server connect settings in info)

Aug 28 2018 - i’m not sure why we still can’t clone or copy a host, thus making entry of a similar device easy ( ie a device that might be one IP address/Octet different, but all else is the exact same). There is one “work around” for cloning hosts but it’s a horrible method which requires you to first connect to the host

I’m also not sure why we still can’t swipe left/right on hosts to edit or perform other actions.

The reason I say why we still can’t, is because in the feedback form within the app users have been requesting these features for several years.

——-
Update (feb 20 2018): issues have been fixed by dev.

(Dec 18 2017) As of recent update about 2-3 months ago (the update where they added location services background keep alive), nearly 50 of my Terminus bookmarks/devices freeze right after opening their ssh connection, prior to the update, I had not had any issues in 4 years+ of terminus use. I can still connect to the same devices via telnet without any issues, but using SSH , as soon as the connection opens the app freezes.

I have tested this on various other iOS devices, including a freshly reset device. The freeze issue exists on all iOS devices.

I Was in touch with the developers, they requested several screen recordings and remote SSH access into a sample device w the issue, which they did connected to, but they then stopped any replies / updates to me nearly a month ago. Of course putty and other SSH clients have no issue connecting to the devices ( mikrotik routerOS , and some fedora Linux boxes) , and obviously terminus had no issue connecting to these devices prior to that update.

I will update this review to 4 or 5 stars when the issue is resolved, but it’s very frustrating to have nearly 100 devices entered manually into terminus app, and then a update one day stops half of them from working.

Termius Rather nice terminal program, especially if you have an external keyboard

With the demise of iSSH I was looking for a new SSH terminal program for the iPad. This seemed highly rated so I gave it a shot.

The executive summary is "this works rather well" and it provides a few features that, while not on my list originally, are rather nice to have.

While at this point I've only used the app for about 24 hours, almost all 24 of those hours were spent in a code debugging session. That amounts to quite a lot of use of the app.

I've found only a couple of things that I think are bugs, and nothing that is significant to using it for real work.

The first one relates to using emacs. If the emacs background and terminal background are not the same color, you can get terminal background colors showing through. My emacs uses a light grey background (that is, apparently, its default) whereas the app's default terminal background is white. When performing certain operations like M-b (emacs-speak for "go backwards one word") it will leave white background behind the text between the old and new cursor point.

I am not 100% certain that this is the application's fault, though; emacs does have some rendering glitches itself, especially with its info bar, I just don't recall ever seeing this happen with xterm or PuTTY. Regardless of fault this is pretty minor and a screen refresh fixes it.

Another nit is that I would like it if there were some way to open more than one session to the same host simultaneously without creating multiple host entries. I like to set up one tab for my editor and and one or more others for shell access and the tabs are great for that. On the other hand, having more than one "host" means that the tab names can be different, which is pretty nice, although I usually handle this in my other terminal applications by sending the "set title bar" escape sequence, which doesn't appear to do anything for this app.

I had a little trouble once when I had accidentally made the special key bar on the bottom go away and couldn't figure out how to get it back because both the "help" and "menu" buttons are located on that tab. I had to exit the session and then restart the app to get it back.

After that I spent a little time with "help" and learned that a single tap on the terminal screen switches between the various bar modes.

Speaking of bar modes, the tab mode (part of the "Pro" subscription) is really nice, it's very easy to flip between terminal sessions. Getting that was actually my first reason for paying for "Pro". More on that in a little bit.

I can't speak for how well the application's soft keyboard works because I have used several terminal and Remote Desktop applications with soft keyboards in the past and found it to be a pretty poor experience every time. Not that the apps didn't do the best they could, but simply the fact that you either squish the screen down so much that you can't see anything or use a semi-transparent mode and you're typing underneath your hands. IMO you really want an external keyboard. (Sure do like the admittedly expensive BrydgeAir for this.)

I can't say that I expect to have much use for the file transfer feature, but I have to say that if you want that it's pretty nice to have it available at the touch of a button. It comes up instantly and browsing around is easy. Very nicely done!

Its SSH key management is nicely done, too. I built a new key using the app, set it up for each host, and mailed it to myself to put in the various authorized_hosts files. (Second bug: I could not get the email dialog to work with the external keyboard; copy/paste into the Mail app worked fine though.)

One thing that didn't work the way I expected, although I hesitate to say it's a bug: I realized later that when I created my key I had not set up a key password. I went back to edit the key to add one, which is supported by some key management utilities. The app lets me type a password, but nothing ever prompted for it afterward.

I believe this is because the key has to either have a password or not when it's created, and the password I entered when editing the key, thinking I could change it post de-facto, was instead intended to be used to automatically supply the key password had it been generated with one originally. So, it did nothing.

I didn't test this theory because I had already spent a lot of time propagating the key to various hosts and didn't want to have to do that all over again with a new key. But, that allowed me to try two other options in the app, PIN and Touch ID support. By setting those up the non-passworded keys have some protection, good enough until I get around to regenerating and re-propagating.

The use of Touch ID to control access to your host logins is really very nice. I would not normally save passwords for any of my hosts in a mobile application simply because it's too easy to lose the iPad or phone and leave systems wide open, but having Touch ID gives some protection here. If you save your passwords then the Touch ID gets you instant access, which is extremely quick and convenient.

Getting back to the obvious question about Pro mode (is it worth it?), I have to say that in general I feel that if I like an app enough to use it with any kind of regularity then the developer ought to make some money. As such I will tend to pay for such modes even if I don't necessarily need whatever extra features I might get in so doing.

While I generally disapprove of subscription based purchases, the $6/year price is still a steal in my opinion (I have spent more than that for a glass of beer at times, and that's gone in a few minutes). I liked iSSH just fine for this previously but it became abandonware within a few years. A low subscription price seems to me like it cuts the difference between making you pay a lot up front to fund ongoing development and still ensuring that there will actually be ongoing development.

Termius Basic features are a SUBSCRIPTION

The free version is fine, but a large number of basic features anyone can get for free in any other desktop program are locked away behind an expensive paywall. I can understand charging for the hosting and server costs, but this here is ridiculous.

Termius All hosts are gone with app updates!

My app got updated and wiped out all my hosts. This is the second time this has happened. Now I have to redo my setup which will take some time or pay for importing hosts! Seriously this feels like a sneaky way to make me pay for your subscription!

Termius Annoying pop-up notifications cannot be turned off

Termius' interface is filled with attention-grabbing annoying cruft. There is no obvious way to disable such notifications: dark Ux. The application suffers basic lack of functionality in terminal emulation (those using certain editors and who rotate the screen will know of what I speak).

Termius No respect for prior purchase

I paid for this app, but have lost functionality since they rolled out an update that requires an ongoing paid subscription. Will now be deleting the app and buy a different one. I don’t want or need the cloud based features. I do need the ability to import my keys, which now requires a monthly fee?!

Termius Closes sessions seconds after minimizing app

It’s pretty common to need to switch to a web browser to check on something while in the middle of an SSH session. A client that can’t persist connections for even a minute after minimizing the app is useless. Changing the keep alive interval to a low value has no effect- still dumps the connection.

Termius Evaporated

My hosts and keys disappeared one day, all at the same time. There was nothing indicating there might be a problem.

I switched to another app for a moment, came back to this one, and found a blank space where my hosts had been only a moment before.

Two stars because it worked for a while, even worked well.

Termius Passwords in clear text

On the home screen with all of your saved connections, it just prints the password in clear text. Srsly?

Plus, it’s strangely unreliable. Often just doesn’t connect at all. Sometimes it connects but typing does nothing.

Clearly this works for a lot of other people, but I’m surprised. For me, it’s junk with major design flaws.

Termius Bait and switch?

I just paid for this app last year. Now those features that I got by paying for them have been removed and I'm being offered some outrageously overpriced annual subscriptions in order to get them back? What kind of company does this to PAYING customers?

I hate to give a crappy review because functionally, the app is very good. But this sort of bait and switch behavior grossly overshadows any technical merit.

Termius Developer has gotten greedy

This used to be my goto app for everything SSH. I’ve been a user for a few years now. As time went on, the developer put more and more of the features behind a subscription. The final straw was keeping background sessions open. All of my engineer friends have been mocking me for continuing to use Termius and that I’m a sucker. Welp, today that stops. Having to pay a monthly fee for the ability to SSH into a server is laughable, at best!

Termius You done broke it

I've been using this to manage a custom local media server with no issues for a long time now, but after this last update I can't even type in the terminal!
Every key I press works for a second then somehow types out a load of garbage text! The android version works with no issues, but I wanted to use my iPad for a larger interface for an easier time!
Please focus on a product that works and maybe it would be worth money, but after this I don't know.

Termius Can’t import id_rsa from phone

Can’t import my key file into the app although the key is in my files dir on my phone. Can’t open the key file as plaintext either. The app wants me to somehow send the key to it through iTunes. I don’t have iTunes and I don’t trust iTunes with my key files anyway. The app offers to generate a key but that isn’t going to help me login to the remote server. This would be so easy to do on a reasonable OS or app but this simple task is a showstopper using this app.

Termius No instruction

Need ssh console to copy and paste the one time url to set up m website. When using browser base ssh console, the cursor is 10 lines up and will not let me select the URL.

I downloaded this app to use the console. But there is no instruction on how to get the info I need over to the ssh console.

I am working w/ AWS light sail and a plesk instance. Please tell me how to do and. If it works I will change my review.

Time for app developer to step up and give instruction w/ in the app on how to use!

Termius Sixteen times the price of competitors

I enjoyed the free version of this app. I was ready to purchase the full version. I had my wallet out right up until I found out it would cost me $200 to purchase the full version of this app for two years.

I have been trying various SSH clients to find which one works for me. This has some nice features, but my favorite feature of the competing app is that it costs $15 forever instead of a hundred dollars a year.

I understand that the developers deserve to get paid for their work, but this app is not priced to compete against similar products.

Termius Sketchy In-App “Trial”

Interface looks well laid out, however app is too locked down in the free edition, forces you to want the paid version —standard affair, nothing new. However, when I created a throw-away account to test the free trial, I noticed the Per Month and Per Year options both stated it would start the subscription on May 7th...it’s currently June 21st. I suspect it’s they’re way to scam unsuspecting curious people out of $10 because the “free” 14-day trial will automatically be over and the user gets charged the $10 for the month/whatever it is for the year. BE AWARE AND BE CAUTIOUS!

Termius Still broken

I’m starting to think the good reviews with in the last year are FAKE the app has been broken for a long while. When I try adding a host I click the please where you would put the IP and the alias neither one will pop up the keyboard to let my type in the info. The username and password fields work but with out being able to type in the IP I can’t do anything.

It used to work till one day I needed to edit one of my host and couldn’t edit it. I finally deleted the app and tried re downloading the app same thing. Even on another phone.

The Mac version works fine but the iOS one is dead.

Termius Security Issue - Leaks data…

This app will store data on its servers even if you turn off syncing. The syncing option only affects keys. All other data including host names, IP addresses, snippets and more are automatically uploaded to their servers and there is no way to turn it off!

We have reported this issue because it’s not clear that the user is granting them this permission if the sync option is turned off. They have chosen to label it a feature instead of a security issue….

Unfortunately when you report the issue to them they will try to distract you with talk about fancy encryption and such.

But the bottom line is that they are sucking info from your device to their servers without your explicit approval. So how can you trust them with that data?
