delivery and processing tardiness and lack of commitment to dispatch times
I ordered 2 books: The Penguin edition of The Iliad and The World's Classics Odyssey from The Book Depository on Monday 4th September. As I placed these orders, the descriptions of both of these books said they would be dispatched within 3 working days. The Iliad however has still not been dispatched after over a week and so the dispatch time I was given was inaccurate and I feel mislead. I require these books now as a matter of urgency. Although the Odyssey was dispatched on Thursday 7th December but has still not arrived - I expect this will arrive shortly.
order didn't arrive
The past month, 6th August, I purchased 2 books from Book Depository, Art Of He-man And The Masters Of The Universe(Hardback) - Order number: BDU-259-[protected], which was shipped 8th August; and The Shadow Over Innsmouth(Paperback) - Order number: BDU-259-[protected], which was shipped 10th August.
The Book The Shadow Over Innsmouth arrived within the usual time limits and all is ok, but Art Of He-man And The Masters Of The Universe still hasn't arrive even though it was the first to be shipped. Since it's been almost a month since it's been shipped I'm affraid something went wrong along the way.
What will the Book Depository do about this?
Thank you in advanced.
order not arrived
I've ordered some books about a month ago and I yet have to receive them. Whereas previous order usually were reasonably in time, this time it's been ridiculous. I just received a mail from contact-support. It could be that the post office still holds the packages, but that is yet to be seen.
I already needed the books 5 days ago, so I sincerely wish BookDepository would do something to resolve this great inconvenience. Either by quickly resolving this matter or by compensating for the inconvenience.
I ordered a book from them which was supposedly dispatched from the UK in August 2017. Based on my location it should have arrived 2 weeks ago. I have been sending emails and no response at all!
Same here, it say that my book was dispatched from the UK 22nd August, but it is nowhere to be seen.
address not properly amended before shipment is made
My order number: Order number BDM-759-[protected]
I have placed an order for a book on the 8th August for delivery to Australia.
Then an amendment of address was requested to be redirected to an address in Singapore. Full address (Block 615 Bedok Reservoir Road, #07-1220, Singapore 470615, Singapore) was given and Book Depository has left out the unit number (#07-1220). Without this important part of the address I would not be able to receive my order.
I then received an email below stating the following:
Dean Sass, Aug 11:
Hi Waiching, Thanks for the message.Unfortunately, we are unable to amend the delivery details as your order has already been shipped. I’m sorry we couldn’t help further and our apologies for any inconvenience.Kind Regards, Dean Sass, Customer Advisor
I would appreciate a refund for my order or resend my order to the right address.
order submitted and received no confirmation email
I ordered two books on the book depository on the 22nd July totally HKD132 and paid for it using my paypal. It's the 27th July today and I've still not received a confirmation email from your company. Needless to say, without an order number, i am not able to track my order.
I've also logged onto my account on your website and found no history of this order.
kjv concord reference bible goatskin
as this is an expensive Bible which they had on Discount, I paid £137, it arrived fully packaged but I found some faults. (the stitching on fron is faulty, their seem to be a fingerprint kind of mark, which can be a leather inconsistency may be, but its not nice, and the bold fonts within the text are very often grayed out and harder to read).I like to know how to return the item and get a refund. The only way to get in touch is via email and they claim they respond within 24 hours (long time when you have a complaint).
I supplied them with pictures of the faults etc. but since I have emailed twice and not received any response at all in almost double the time.
Amazon bought the company in 2011 as far as I know but when you contact them (helpline seems to connect to the filipino staff, they don't even know that Amazon owns the company and couldnt be any less helpful of advising how to reach someone in the very company Amazon own and therefore are extremely unhelpful (as soon as they have to go off script they just turn into robots, professional, but totally useless).
have not received the book that I paid for

Please refer to attached photo. I am Lara Surring. I reside in Drumheller Alberta Canada. I purchased a book from The Book Depository_CA and am still waiting for the book to arrive. Just on a whim I googled my name and this hit came up of a complaint on this complaints board where my name was being used and I guess I'm being blamed for something that the Book Depository_CA did or didn't do. This is extremely upsetting and invasive. I do not know what your website is about but please let me know if you are able to help correct this in any way. Thank you, Lara

On April 19, I ordered a book form the Book Depository under the link of "George MacDonald: The Complete Fantasy Collection - 8 Novels & 30+ Short Stories and Fairy Tales (Illustrated): The Princess and the Goblin, Lilith, Phantastes." It now seems that this link is erroneous and in its place is an option to purchase "The Princess and Curdie." I sincerely thought that the link was legitimate and that I would receive the complete works of George MacDonald for the cost of $22.98 plus shipping. Please check out the link below:
https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=george+macdonald
The distributor at Book Depository_CA, Alice of Lara Surring, Drumheller, Alberta, has told me that I have to assume 100% of shipping costs in addition to being charged a 15% re-stocking fee. While I don't mind assuming some of the responsibility for the error, the fact that the link on Amazon's website suggests that the complete George Macdonald collection is available in book form should be addressed as an error which could mislead a customer, such as myself, in purchasing the incorrect item.
I am appalled that there was not even an apology for the error.
I would hope that the Book Depository would address this issue in a fair and just manner. It is certainly not fair that I an to be out of pocket some $17 due to an error on Amazon's website.
about 25% of the books I order
I am tired of getting books arriving damaged from bookdepository.com
They are packaged well but when I open the package the books are damaged. The packaging is not damaged but the books are so that means they were sent damaged and this is false advertising. When you send a brand new item it's expected to be in brand new condition and I am sick and tired of them turning up damaged. This happens with about 25% of the books I order from you.
missing order!!
I bought a book from this online store and was supposed to get it before Christmas but Christmas already passed and still no sign of my book. When I contacted Book Depository customer service and asked about my book they said that I can track my order. But the problem was that I did not have a tracking number, they never gave it to me. When I told them about that they said that was not true and claimed I received it a long time ago. What a terrible company. I asked them to cancel my order but they refused. I will never buy anything from them again!
awful company
I have ordered a book from Book Depository website and did not receive anything. They asked me to be more patient. Three weeks passed and I contacted Book Depository and told them that nothing arrived and I wanted a refund, but they said that they can't give me my money back. Instead of that they offered to send me my book again and I agreed.
Well, I did not receive it. When I contacted Book Depository they said that there was nothing they could do. They said they already sent my order twice and they will not do that again. Awful company!
selling items which are not in stock
I've ordered a book from www.bookdepository.com and received all the confirmations. Later they contacted me and said that book I've ordered was not in stock and offered me to pick something else. I went to their website and it was still said that book was in stock.
I refused to pick something else and asked for a refund. They did not want to give me my money back and tried to assure me to pick another book. Later they finally agreed and said I'll get my money with a week. That never happened! The still owe me!
flimsy packaging
Received my Book Depository package only to see that the book I purchased had been beaten up due to the flimsy packaging. What makes me suspicious is that while the cardboard packaging my book came in seems to be fine, my book has suffered damage. Does this mean the company sent me a damaged book from their warehouse?
nothing but headache
Purchased a book from www.bookdepository.com later I was contacted by someone from the company and told that my order was cancelled. They said that there was some kind of problem with my credit card. That was not a problem, I just found another site and purchased the book there.
Several weeks later Book Depository charged my card without my permission! I contacted them and they claimed they never did that. I told them that I can call my bank and get some proofs.
I wasted so much time arguing with these guys and but in the end they finally agreed to refund me. Got my money back and blocked Book Depository from any further charges.
Same here in Poland. I bough many books from than and now suddenly they are cancelling all my orders. I'm using paypal, so it's not a problem with my debit card. Seriously... :/
They just did exactly the same thing to me here in Australia. Effectively I have to jump through hoops to get a refund and swallow postage due to their mess up. And my emails of complaint now bounce from their server. Very poor customer service.
sent to the wrong address
After being a loyal customer for over 4 years to thebookdepository i now have a large issue with them.
On the 11th September 2014 i ordered $100.50 worth of books, being a single mother with little income its a lot of money to me but i try and buy books for myself when i can.
7 of the 10 books i ordered were shipped out and come the 20th October 2014 i message them to find out what has happened. From there ive been given the run around.
it was discovered they had been shipped to a completely different address (my old address) but i had made sure to enter my new address and had 3 people with me check i got the address correct as it was a new one. The next day my email account was hacked into and i had to change everything to my new email including the book depository, i did so and sent an email asking to be sent out the confirmation order again as i had not been able to view the last. No reply but i thought nothing of it, a month goes by and they now tell me it isnt their fault and i have to wait 5-10 weeks for the books to be sent back to them.
i contacted the postal company in the area, the renters of the address now and both have said they did not recieve any books yet thebookdepository say they have been sent so that is it. They will not do anything.
5-10 weeks wait and if the books are sent back i can either get them sent to me or a refund YET if they are not sent back i lose out on over $80 worth of books.
As i did enter the correct address, requested a new confirmation order and then contacted them i feel as though i have been wronged. i did everything right yet im still losing out on a large sum of money.
If this isnt corrected i dont think i would shop with them again, ive spent thousands on their site yet this one mistake that was most likely a site glitch will be the end of my loyalty to their company. Ive shopped on the site even when i have found the books cheaper elsewhere so the site would stay afloat, ive promoted the site on my blog, all my reviews and recommended it to any customer (i work in a big chain bookstore in Australia) that we cannot get the book they are after.
I am now being ignored by Veronica Demeterova after being given the runaround for hours with countless emails and her just repeating herself.
All i wanted was the books reshipped to me to the CORRECT address and the fault being theirs on both things should not be my problem. I did not ask for a refund or even want one, i just want the books shipped to be shipped to my correct address.
they have corrected the preorders so they will be sent to my address but this does not help in me receiving the larger amount of books that have been lost.
Am not a happy customer and i would not recommend them again.
order never showed up
I ordered seven books from Book Depository on Aug 27th 2014. One of the seven was sent out the following day. The rest of the six were "dispatched" four days later.
Eight days went by and the first book that was sent out on its own showed up. I waited a few more days for the rest to show up. Nothing. I contacted Book Depository and told them the situation. They had me check with my local post office, I did. Nothing was there...besides, why would they hold the rest after dropping off the other one?
After I informed the costumer service rep, Veronika, about there not being anything at the PO she said she ordered a new set and should be here in another eight days. I said ok and waited again. Once again...nothing.
I thought ordering something a month out would give me enough time to get it here and ready for the recipient. But no. I had to go find another gift and still out the $$$.$$. I want a refund on my order for the books that never showed up.
After reading other complaints I'm starting to wonder if they even sent them out at all...

books not yet delivered
I ordered two books from Book Depository dated 29 April 2014 and 10 May 2014. It has been over two months now and i am still awaiting for me purchases to be delivered to me. Upon enquiry with the [protected]@bookdepository.com, i was advised by a Heba Hamed to check with my local post office if they have kept it. I have been running to and fro to the post office past three weeks to check on my deliveries. I get back to Heba Hamed and she apologies saying that they have not dispatched my order and they would do it shortly which really left me frustrated and i emailed this Heba again and i am again advised that the previous email was sent in error and that they have re-ordered my book. I have advised this Heba Hamed to kindly send me my books by 20 June 2014 or provide me my FULL refund as this is not an error on my part. Book Depository has enormously caused me frustration, grief and a lot of running around for their inefficiency and incompetence. I would be suing Book Depository for their failure to deliver.
I made two purchases of books for more than 50 days and not received the books, (BDU-124-[protected] and DU-992-[protected] ) amount paid of US 167. I made two contacts with the assistance to the customer and not getting a response if I will have my money back.
Hi Joytishna,
We are sorry your order and the replacement hasn't arrived.
We have refunded you in full for this order and one of our Customer Service Supervisors has emailed you directly.
So sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

waited 3 months + refund
NEVER order from ukbookdepository unless you want to risk your money just to save a couple of bucks.
I ordered 7 books from the book depository as I wanted to do some reading during the holidays. I made payment ($70+) on the 13th of March, and waited for a month before I made enquiry regarding my parcel which still have not arrived. They replied me via email telling me that I had to wait for another 10-15 days before they could check and re-send the books.
Around 14 days later, they told me that they will be sending the books out again. (FYI by then it was already mid April) I was so pissed as my holidays were over and even by the time when the books reach me I wouldn't have the time to read them)
I was told to give them another 7-10 working days for the delivery of books. And so I waited for another 14 days (YES I COUNTED EACH AND EVERY SINGLE DAY) but still... the books weren't delivered to me.
I asked for a refund and they told me to give them 3 working days. As I made payment via credit card, the only thing I can do now is to wait for the bank statement to arrive at the end of the month. (Keeping my fingers crossed hoping that all my money will be refunded)
It was a terrible experience ordering from them
