Coca-Cola review: coke zero 20 oz bottle 93

I just googled “musty smelling Coke Zero” because this is the second bottle I’ve opened that smelled like a dirty dish rag! It’s definitely inside the cap. I plan on calling Coke and asking what’s up. I’ll report back what they say.

I've had the same issue on several occasions from 20 oz. Wawa coke bottles. Just drinking one that prompted me to look this up and find this page. The soda itself id fine but cap and top of bottle have very strong mildew smell. I'm guessing it is a summer time issue.

I just found this googling musty Coke Zero. I have the same issue in the last two 6 packs of bottles I bought from Walmart. It’s almost like an after taste or smell. I have been feeling weird and wondering if it’s from this. Also wondering if they are spraying them with some type of disinfectant for covid. Anyway it’s gross! Reminds me of dirty dish towel smell.

I'd just had my maintenence man working on my bathtub drain and I honestly thought the smell was mildew wafting out of the bathroom until I'd almost finished the 20oz bottle. That was 25 hours ago and I'm feeling fine, but, dude. It exactly like an old dish sponge!

Just opened one, and noticed a smell. I thought mildew at first, but it may be a weird plastic chemical smell. Unfortunately I took a few sips before I realized.

I have gotten quite a few diet coke bottles that smell like body odor. I read somewhere that it is the lids and the gasket inside

I have been drinking Pepsi and the diet Pepsi sodas, and I noticed a bad smell on the rim of the soda. I have never smelled it before it all started this year. It actually left my toothbrush smelling the same. Any other product like dr pepper of sprite I have no problem.

Could it be some kind of lubrication when the product is bottled, left over? I have smelled the same thing on Sprite Zero 20oz bottles...

I just bought a Coke Zero today at Sam's club and it had an horrible rotten smell and the top of the bottle was also darker in color. Then I went to another Sam's club same day and bought another coke zero and when i opened it, same thing. This happened to me the day before with one I got at Arco and since then I have had a migraine. Anyone else also getting migraine? I sill be contacting coke cola company on Tuesday.

I purchase a Diet Coke (in a 20oz plastic bottle) at my local Dunkin yesterday and it had the smell of an old rag. I thought at first it was the bottle but I finally smelled inside the top and it seemed to be coming from inside the bottle. I drank about 1/4 of it before smelling inside, now my tummy hurts. Ugh.

Just bought a 20oz coke zero on my way out from Best Buy. The top smells pretty bad, just ild something old, its just gross. I have a sensitive nose, I think i just might throw it out.

Got 4 six packs of Coke Zero from Pick N Save and one 20 oz smells to me like burnt plastic...others say like a body odor and I can smell that as well. Random I had 3 other bottles from that 6 pack and I only noticed this one.

I just called the Coca-Cola Consumer Affairs line at 1-800-GET-COKE to report a smelly bottle, but they didn't have an answer, so I did my own research and here's the best explanation I've found: it might be the build-up of phenylalanine.

Just happened to me too. Old sponge, mildew smell. My hand smells now- so gross. Only had a couple swigs before realizing... ew.

UPDATE! SENT A EMAIL TO COCA COLA ABUT THE 2 20OZ BOTTLES THAT SMELLED BAD FROM MY 6 PACK. I REPLIED TO THEIR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCT AND THEY SENT ME A COUPON FOR A FREE 6 PACK.

Thank you for sending this. I just filed a complaint with Coca-Cola as well. The 20oz Diet Cokes are the exact same way! I have bought 4 different Diet Cokes from different vendors with the same exact issue. It is the recycled plastic bottles and lids that smell absolutely disgusting!

My husband’s regular coke bottle smells like strong chili/curry powder. It’s disgusting!

Same issue here with a six pack of A&W Zero Sugar Root Beer. Exactly like an old dish sponge. I'll be contacting customer service tomorrow.

I've been smelling Cumin in my Coke Zero bottle! I thought it was from when I ate Mexican food because I've frequently had it lately. Then, today I didn't have any and I smelled it! It's the cap I think. I even got two others to smell it and they did, too. Sometimes I smell it and sometimes I don't. Must be the plant.

So, I’ve been noticing this with the last several six packs of Coca Cola that I’ve purchased. To where I won’t drink them. First, they want to explode - even if they have been sitting still for a long while, then after I prevent the exploding the mouth and lid of the bottle smells like burnt plastic.

Not the first time I’ve had troubles with exploding coke for no apparent reason - had every single bottle of 5 six bottles to the same thing. But, the smell is very new to me.

I have noticed the last 4-6 two liters of Coke Zero have smelled like old musty water. As soon as I twist the lid open the smell hits me in the face. The lids smell especially bad. I have been wanting to decrease the amount of Coke Zero I consume, this is definitely helping me accomplish that goal.

Bought a 20oz bottle yesterday at a local variety store. When I opened it, the smell of mildew was overwhelming. Upon closer inspection, the entire bottle has a faint greenish haze. I dumped it. I can't imagine how the whole bottle smells that bad, particularly because the outside of it doesn't smell at all. It's just when the bottle is open that it stinks. Gross.

YES! I opened one last night while working and was like omg this smells like an old sponge that needs to be thrown away. I opened another one today, same. This is unreal! I still have it. I'm keeping it. This could be dangerous. Some kind of moldy machine or ingridents.

Coke, you're gonna have a huge law suit on your hands if we all get sick. I'm a diabetic and I drink Coke Zero products. All of them. Including the Coffee Cokes that rarely are even on the shelf!

Every bottle of the last two six packs of 16.9 oz bottles of Coke Zero (with the new red label) I've bought have had a burnt plastic smell inside the bottle. The coke tastes normal and doesn't smell abnormal when poured into a cup, but it's definitely strange and a bit alarming.

I drink a LOT of caffeine free Diet Coke and almost every 16.9 oz bottle I drink lately smells either like caulk or old cat pee. What the heck is going on? It’s so gross I keep dumping them out and wasting a ton of money. Don’t know if this is safe to drink. Shouldn’t have to smell the bottle before drinking it. If this doesn’t get resolved soon, I’ll be switching to CF Diet Pepsi. So nasty!

Same my wife bought one earlier today 100 miles from home and I bought one on my way home. Both were mildew smelling caps and top inside. My wife thinks it's the new bottles they're using. The smaller ones in six packs we buy haven't had this issue.

Coke zero toady is musty. Orange vanilla coke bought 40 miles away yesterday was the same. I guess I'm glad it's not just me? But it's gross either way.

I’m in Southern California… just got a Diet Coke at my local gas station and had the same problem everyone else is having. Really disturbed by all of this but I’m glad i looked it up before just ignoring the stench and drinking the entire thing! So weird…

I bought a Diet Coke 20oz a month ago at a car wash and it smelled like BO. I noticed the date on the bottle had expired. So today I got a 20oz from our drink machine at work and it smelled the same. I looked at the date on this one and it’s out of date as well. Today is Dec 3, 2021 and the date on the bottle is Oct 25 2021. I mentioned it at work so someone showed me this site of all the BO complaints.
