Thursday, January 9th, 2025, I rented a car from a Turo host. This man had several cars available. Pick up was at a garage, 1603 New York route 52, Fishkill New York. I arrive and take all pictures of the car needed. Once I got on the highway, and got up to 60 mph, the steering wheel started shaking and jerking and any little bump made the car jerk around. Something was very wrong with this car. I pulled over and let the host know what was going on and That I wanted to return the car. He offered me a FULL refund or I could take another car. But honestly if this host allowed this car to be driven I could only imagine what the other cars would be like. This car was advertised as unlimited miles allowed to be driven. In reality it shouldn’t have been on the road at all. The host told me to tell Turo support that the reason I was returning the car was due to a bad smell in the car. The next day I notice I was charged 84$ when the host told me I would receive my full payment of 636$ for the inconvenience and unsafe car. I contacted Turo and told them what happened and to review the messages and that I also had screen shot of the host saying he would issue my FULL refund. Now today I check my account and Turo charged me 636$ AGAIN. So now we’re at over 1200$ for a car I was unable to drive because the host was not checking his cars were in driveable conditions. Turo support was completely useless even tho I sent screenshots of being charged 1200$ they said they would “look into it” and call me back. This is completely unacceptable and disgusting they allow hosts to be this careless with peoples lives. There needs to be more accountability and scrutiny on the cars these hosts are allowing people to drive. There is no way in hell this car would pass an inspection to even be allowed to drive. The fact this host told me to lie to Turo about why I returned the car and wouldn’t be renting it shows just how little structure and accountability Turo puts on these hosts. This man should not be allowed to rent cars to anyone.
Claimed loss: Over 1200$ for a car that was not safe to drive.
Desired outcome: My full refund plus the second charge of 636$
