Walgreens - sales associate

To Whom it May Concern,

First I would like to positively state that I love this store and I enjoy shopping here as a frequent customer and I have never had a problem with any associate before until this one. I was so upset that I had not gotten his name but he was working at 2:38pm on 10/16/2019 at the East Ave location.
I went into the store to purchase a pack of cigarettes. I had seen that the line was very long and because I have worked in retail before I understand how that can be overwhelming, so I browsed for a few minutes until the line was gone.
When I got to the register with a smile on my face I politely asked for a pack of cigarettes. I understand Walgreen's ID policy very well and I have always followed their policy on purchasing tobacco products.
I showed him my ID and I explained that I currently have my old ID because due to a stroke of unfortunate luck it had gotten stolen and that the store manager on Sunday 10/13/19 had scanned the ID and said that it works and not to worry about it.
The associate stated, " well I cannot accept this because our company will get dinged for it."
He didnt even acknowledge that his manager had approved this 3 days ago.
I also explained very nicely that I have a picture of my valid drivers license front & back that is valid on my phone that I can show him but he still refused to let me purchase a pack of cigarettes.
He didn't even apologize or show any remorse towards me and it was very clear I was sad and upset by this.
I said "okay thank you" and took my service to 711 who was very accommodating and even with a long line behind me at the register.
Also in the past few months have had other complaints from my boyfriend and his mother from this associate refusing to let them purchase tobacco because 'even though his mother is making the purchase and he came to help her and keep her company that he cannot accept her purchase due to new company policy."
I have never felt so upset and unjustified by an employee at Walgreens. I absolutely love that store and their customer service has always been excellent so this visit and this associate truly disappointed me as a customer.
I don't wish any punishment on this employee but I do wish he was aware of his lack of customer service skills and empathy. I do wish he could show with actions that he has successfully changed his ways as an employee and who knows maybe customer service isn't right for him as an occupation.
I also feel as though he is not being a team player and he is making the well-loved Walgreens look terrible and that isn't fair to his fellow employees and company.
