My doctor's office sent a prescription. I called them twice, and the pharmacists kept telling me they did not receive one. So, my doctor's office had to send it again. I called to verify, and again, I was told that they did not receive my prescription. My doctor's office staff had to call the pharmacy themselves to straighten this out. I then received verification that the prescription had been received.
Since this medication wasn't due to be filled until a few days later (controlled substance), I waited until the day before to call the pharmacy and verify that I could pick it up the next day. They didn't even have my correct address! I don't know how that's possible since I had picked up a medication there 10 days prior. I was told that it would have to wait for prior authorization from insurance. I asked if I could just pay cash price (which I've done many times in the past at other pharmacies), but I was told that they had to wait for the approval/denial before they could determine what the cash price would be. What?
I transferred the prescription to Walgreen's and they had it ready in less than 2 hours.
I guess CVS doesn't want my money. That's fine with me, because I will never buy anything there again.
Desired outcome: I want an explanation for why a medication cannot be dispensed at cash price while prior authorization is pending.
