Safeway - Pharmacist

On a routine basis I am prescribed medications for a severe back injury. One of these prescriptions is for oxycodone. Since a new pharmacist took over at the Swan Creek Ft Washington, MD locations I have had difficulty getting this prescription filled. Last month he refused to fill my script first because he claimed the meds weren’t available, then stating it wasn’t time to refill n the system blocked him from filling. I made numerous calls about picking up my medications as I was leaving the area for a week. Continuously throughout the day I was advised it was being filled for picked up later that day. Then after going in person to the pharmacy as me we’re planning to leave town for a family matter it was determined he could fill the script n he had not entered the “fill date”. This month again he is refusing to fill n stated he would contact my dr and advise. I feel this is being done on a personal, not professional, level because I corrected him in his error last month. He has no bases for denying to fill my script n my Dr is fully aware of my medication usage. Again today you have to deal with games in simply trying to refill my meds. He provided no reason other than it’s his decision and he won’t fill till after the full date. This is the second time he has caused an adverse impact on me and my family when we were planning to leave town for a week for the holidays. Now because of his personal opinion of when my meds should be filled my family and I will can be able to leave town, as he’s holding my scrip hostage till middle of the week. We will also lose funds paid for our non-refundable reservations for a house rental at the beach. My husband has Stage 4 prostate cancer and we are spending his remaining time trying to travel and visit out of state family. This pharmacist behavior is causing undo hardship (and in this case now financial hardship) on me and my family simply because this is what he’s decided to do. I believe his unprofessional behavior and attitude is because he was embarrassed last month when I pointed out to him his error in not entering the full date into the system while filling. If this is the behavior and unprofessionalism Safeway condones in treatment of its long standing customers then I will discontinue all businesses with Safeway. Please advise how Safeway plans to address this issue or if I should look into other outside actions.

Desired outcome: Re-educate pharmacy and pharmacist staff. Require pharmacist to fill scrips based on fill date determined by physician when there is no basis to deny or pattern of abuse of medications. If unable to resolve, terminate pharmacist.
