I had an extremely frustrating experience at Safeway Store 496 (15000 NE 24th, Redmond, WA 98052). It took me an hour just to check out due to poor service and miscommunication.
At checkout, my member discount wasn’t applied. A cashier told me I wasn’t a member, even though I had installed the Safeway app and registered in January 2025. She directed me to Customer Service, but no one was there. A staff member cleaning the trash kindly led me to the store manager, Greg, who was resting in a corner. Instead of resolving the issue, Greg told me to wait at Customer Service.
After five minutes of waiting, I asked another staff member, Athena, for help. She assisted me in registering my membership again via the app, which showed that new members should receive a discount. However, the discount still didn’t apply at checkout. When Athena called Greg, he claimed I was already a member, which is why I didn’t receive the new-member discount. I explained that I had to register again because I was told I wasn’t a member earlier. Greg then accused me of providing the wrong phone number at checkout, causing the issue.
He insisted I take all my items to Customer Service to redo the entire process. By this point, I had already spent an hour trying to check out. When I voiced my frustration, Greg raised his voice, told me I was "done here," and said I was not welcome at Safeway.
This experience was beyond disappointing. The lack of organization, accountability, and customer service was unacceptable. I’m sharing my experience to warn others about the poor treatment I received so they can avoid the same frustration and disrespect.
