My husband and I have been shopping at this Safeway for 2.5 years now and the last year we have had to audit our receipt EVERY SINGLE time we go to this store. So far in the last year, each week, multiple times a week, we find errors of them not honoring sale prices and not ringing up the products correctly. SOOO 100% of our shopping weekly we find errors ranging from $4.00-$26.00 EVERY SINGLE TIME. The manager at the store knows us at this point as we walk directly up to the customer service desk immediately after we check out to get our refund. One time we had to reenter hundreds of dollars of groceries (and they credited us over $25.00). As a paycheck to paycheck a family of 6 raising 4 teenagers everyone can understand how inflation has hurt everyone. However, if Safeway is knowingly doing this to one person imagine how many families, they are ripping off hourly, daily, and weekly. Warning to costumers... ALWAYS check you receipt! Tonight was a prime example. My husband bought 2 whole chickens that were advertised at $0.99 a lb/limit 2. He noticed that when he checked out only 1 of the chickens was honored at the sale price the other was full price. My husband went to customer service and pointed out the error and one of the clerks said, "I noticed that only one was ringing up on sale, instead of two." The other clerk who was helping my husband said, "I'm surprised you were able to get any of the chickens to ring up on the sale price." Admitting that they knowingly knew and were aware that their systems were not ringing up the price correctly and apparently all day did nothing about it. Our refund was $4.61 this may not seem like a lot but when you see whole chickens in everyone's cart multiply by each one of those by $4.61, they are making a killing on pricing errors EVERY SINGLE DAILY.
Report this issue to Safeway’s corporate customer service, detailing the ongoing pricing errors and the staff's response. Include specific examples and receipts if possible, and request they address the pricing system in your local store. For additional accountability, consider contacting your local consumer protection agency to investigate potential systematic overcharges.
