Complaint about service at Service Center #1423 Hendersonville NC
I filed a complaint with Tegan Bowman on or about 11-12-2021 about a repair that I had done on 9-2-2021 in regards to replacement of my front brakes on my 72 Chevy pickup. The front brake pads were changed and the vehicle was supposed to be FULLY GREASED. I ran the vehicle intermittently during the time I had it repaired and during that time I discovered that there was a serious problem that had not been addressed by the tech. Mr. G Mooney.
I noticed a slight shaking in the brake system after I got the brakes replaced but was told by Mooney to just use the brakes lightly for a while until the pads had time to seat in. As I went along the shaking got worse and turned into a bounce and almost shook me off the road above 40 mph putting my life in danger.
I immediately took it back to the center and talked with Mooney.
He set the pickup on the rack and reinspected the front end then had me look at the results. He showed me that there was a slight wobble in the right front wheel bearing and idle arm but he wasn't concerned with it and would not take the job on to replace the wheel bearing because he felt it could not be replaced due to the age of the truck. Mooney said there was nothing else wrong with the front end and basically I'd just have to live with it. I took it to a mechanic that I use for most of my other issues along the way and they immediately discovered that the rotors were warped and grooved as well as the calipers were sticking and not releasing the brakes and new brake pads were shot.
As they dug into the front end more they also found that both left and right inner and outer wheel bearing need be changed as well as the tie rod and tie rod ends, idler arm and bushings. They also said that it had NOT been properly greased and the A frame pins as well as the tie rod ends were dry.
I had it fixed by the mechanic shop and took the bill along with the previous bill from the tire shop back to Tegan.
Tegan filled out a request for a refund for the brake job on the same day I was there to complain.
She said that the complaint would be sent to corporate for the refund.
She copied both the store bill and the bill from my mechanic for comparison and proof, but when she tried to print off a copy of the complaint form for me she had some kind of issue with the printer and couldn't print it off.
I questioned her about the print off a cpl. days later and she said that the printer was still not working but that she had contacted corp. and it had been received.
Since then I haven't heard anything from corp.
Tegan did say recently before Christmas that she was told the claim had been okayed and had been sent to another office to finalize the claim but couldn't' say when it would be refunded.
Monday the 27th 2021 I contacted Tegan to setup a time that day to service my 2010 Toyota Highlander and told her I DID NOT want Mooney to do the work on my vehicle since he botched the previous job leaving me at risk to my safety.
I had the oil changed and tires rotated on the car before we were to go to Tennessee the next day which was the 28th 2021.
I was supposed to get the whole inspection package offered with the service and all things on the list were marked including the brakes were checked as okay.
When I brought it into the shop there was a large amount of brake dust on the front wheels, but I was told previously that the pads were probably not quality pads, so I figured if there was anything wrong then I'd be told during this inspection.
Then after paying the bill for the oil change and against my request I found that Mooney was the tech that did this job.
On the way over to Tenn. out of NC the next day the 28th 2021 I noticed that every time I used the brakes on the car thru the mountains on I-40 the steering would shake slightly and as I used them more the worse it got just like the pickup had started to do.
The next day the 29th 2021 as I was coming back from Tenn. to NC I was caught in an emergency situation where there had been construction and an accident had occurred which caused an immediate shut down. I braked fairly hard to avoid traffic ahead of me and the steering on the car started to shake the same as the pickup had done.
I got it stopped in time but was questioning the event as whether I would be able to continue on with the brakes in that shape. I also found that after needing to wash the windshield on the way home after a rain storm on the 29th 2021 the window washer was not refilled and was completely empty, but was also checked during the inspection and nothing was done to fill it..
If the brakes had been inspected by some one of professional quality I was told about the condition of the brakes then I wouldn't have made that trip before getting them repaired!
Here again because of the tech NOT doing his job, I was put in harms way trusting that the car was okay to drive.
I took it to my mechanic yesterday Thursday 30th 2021 and they diagnosed it with the rotors being worn out and needing replaced along with the brake pad, so I've elected to have my mechanic repair the brakes on my Toyota instead of taking it back to your tire shop.
I was going to have Tegan figure me up a new set of tires for my pickup even after all this with the pickup and before what I've experienced now with the Highlander, but now I'm going to also elect to buy them else where.
All of this could have been avoided and fixed at this Mr. Tire Shop instead of me having my life and others placed in harms way by a tech named G. Mooney which forced me to go to another vendor to have all of this repaired.
I've tried to contact Tegan since I got back from Tenn. but she's not returned my calls. I left another message today the 31st 2021 to have her call me.
She's been very polite but didn't respect my wishes unfortunately which has lead me to complete this e-mail...
Please reply to me via e-mail ASAP and let me know when I can get my refund.
The invoice #315391 is the one that the brake pads and grease job was done to my 72 Chevy pickup
I have submitted documents as evidence for the invoice and itemized invoice from my mechanic as to the parts needed to repair the front end of the 72 Chevy pickup.
Thank you, Tim Stark
