Manufacturing defect caused failure of parts. A coating to prevent rust of supporting structural members failed, either through an incomplete coating of the underlying material or the underlying material was improperly prepared to receive the protective coating.
The attached photographs show only one of the affected parts, however the defect is observable in several other places on different component parts.
While the warranty does not cover "rust, " it certainly ought to cover the cause of the rusted parts. The underlying cause of the problem shown here is either improper manufacturing technique or manufacturing defect. The unit has been in service since March 2013 (Less than 18 months) but i purposely bought a five year extended warranty to protect myself from "hidden damage" that may not appear within the warranty period. I believe these defects fit that category and the company should be liable for the replacement of all affected parts.

Mr. Polk,
Thank you for your response.
I fully appreciate not providing a warranty against rust but that is not the basis of my complaint. The rust shown in the pictures is due to a failure in the manufacturing process. There are three possibilities. One, the parts were not "prepped" properly before the protective coating was applied. Two, an improper application of the protective coating resulted in rusting of the underlying material. Third, and in my opinion the least likely, the protective coating failed. None of the failures observed occurred at a point where friction may be a primary factor. I base my conclusions on twenty plus years of experience as a Manufacturing and Quality Engineer with significant results in failure analysis.
However, the fact remains the rust resulted from a manufacturing process error causing the part(s) to fail. The rust did not cause the failure.
A final word - please train your customer service personnel to listen and evaluate a complaint instead of responding like one of Pavlov's dogs to a word, in this case, "rust."
